Chairman Nominated as Candidate in Shimoga Constituency

The Management, Staff and Students congratulate Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation, on being nominated for the present Lok Sabha General Elections from the Indian National Congress, Shimoga Constituency. We wish him every success in the upcoming elections.

A born leader, Dr. Manjunath Bhandary’s skills were honed in the early student days of school and college and opened up vast avenues for him to be recognized as a leader and thereby counted among the youth as a youth icon on the global platform. He received the prestigious fellowship from Eisenhower Foundation, Philadelphia, USA in the year 2004.

He was instrumental in the government's ambitious rural welfare scheme called CSCs (Common Service Centers). He proposed a project, “Rajiv Vikas Kendra” to the Govt. of India through the Hon'ble Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi, and the same was approved by the Prime Minister, Sri. Manmohan Singh with the Union Cabinet sanctioning rupees 5637 crores to provide employment to 10 million rural youth. In 1978, Dr. Manjunath Bhandary involved himself actively in the congress party at Karkala, while he was studying Pre-University, when the former Prime Minister Late Smt. Indira Gandhi contested the Lok Sabha bye-election from Chikmagalur. Cricket unites people of all religions – Mr. Moideen Bava

Mr. Moideen Bava, Member of the Legislative Assembly, Surathkal, Mangalore, inaugurated the four-day inter-collegiate cricket tournament for UG students organized by the Sahyadri Premier League (SPL) at the Sahyadri Campus. Around thirty-two teams from different parts of Karnataka are participating in this tournament.

Mr. Bava illustrated with examples how cricket can unite people of all religions and develop peace and harmony among people in a society. He appealed to young men and women to unite together to work towards the betterment of the society. India, being the youngest nation in the world, can be a superpower within the next five years, if youngsters of our country unite together by forgetting difference of caste, religion and language. Mr. Moideen Bava also emphasized the need for cricket lovers of Mangalore to practice overarm bowling rather than underarm bowling which is very popular in the district. He also expressed his happiness that students have formed the SPL as a student enterprise to tap the interest of the youth in cricket and to promote sports and games among men and women.

Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, presided over the inaugural function and Dr. Ananthapadhmanabha Achar, Director, Department of Business Administration, provided an overview of the Sahyadri Premier League. Mr. Manish Gatti, Chairman, SPL, welcomed the gathering and Mr. Boris Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.

Annual Alumni Meet 2014

The Annual Alumni Meet commenced with sharing of experience and career guidance by Joe Newton Crasta, Darshan, Shiva Prasad, Sanketh Poojari, Isham and Deepraj Alva. Abhijeet Karkera, Managing Partner, Vibrant Minds, motivated students to pursue their dreams.

Later, there was an interaction with the management team, HoDs and faculty members. The principal addressed the gathering to infuse life into the current students. Dean Academics stressed the importance of an alumni association. An Alumni Body Meeting was held and board members were appointed. The president of the current Alumni Association is ShivPrasad Shetty, vice president, Joe Newton Crasta, secretary, Abhijith Karkera, treasurer, Mamatha Shetty, joint secretary, Prashanth and Deepraj Alva, members, Rakshith, Vasanth Radhika, Isham and Raksha. The roles and responsibilities were made clear and various major discussions were held.

Fun filled activities were conducted and prizes were distributed around the campfire near the cafeteria. Students of the college performed for the alumni. A cake was cut on the occasion and a sumptuous dinner served to the alumni. There was dancing around the campfire. Alumni address MBA students

Mr. Prashanth Baliga, Proprietor, Godrej Interiors, Mangalore, addressed MBA students on the eve of Alumni Day. He stressed that participation in inter-collegiate fests is important to apply the theoretical knowledge gained in class. He offered tips and suggestions to the prospective participants on how to succeed in various management fests.

Ms. Reema Naik, Financial Analyst, Northern Trust, Bangalore, shared her knowledge into entering and working in the corporate world for a fresh MBA graduate. She stressed on the importance of being skillful and dynamic at the workplace to enjoy career growth.

Mr. Mushir Rizvi, Senior Sales Consultant, Navneeth Motors, Mangalore, stressed the importance of learning. He emphasized the significance of Student Internship/ Projects. He called on the student community to have a goal in life and work towards it.

Microsoft Appathon Road Map at Sahyadri

The Prestigious Microsoft Application Development Contest (Appathon) has begun at Sahyadri. Appathon is spread over four-week duration, and each week there will be a check point which will be monitored and evaluated by the Microsoft concern team. The best application will be rewarded by the team. Sahyadri students will develop an app using Microsoft technology. Mr. Jaganmohan Naidu of Microsoft started the roadmap show and tossed various ideas across the groups to initiate the program. The program also includes hands-on-experience like developing apps, launching apps, etc. The program went on throughout the day and around 150 students of various engineering streams participated and got an end-to-end development benefit from this interaction.

What’s trending at Microsoft?

The Microsoft Bus visited the Campus with their latest trends in the software industry. Different electronics gadgets were installed with the latest version of the Microsoft Operating System. The Microsoft Bus team interacted with students and demonstrated these products. The students got to experience first-hand the performance of these new products.

Er. Premprasad K. V on Managing a Project - From an Engineers Perspective

The Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (I), Mangalore, ACC Limited & Department of Civil Engineering, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, jointly organized a technical talk on “Managing a Project - From an Engineers Perspective.” Er. Premprasad K. V., Deputy General Manager, Operations, M/S Raheja Universal Pvt. Ltd., was the resource person. Mr. Premprasad during his technical talk expressed a lot of information about project planning, the critical path in project execution and key elements of project implementation. He stressed that students should become good engineers to ultimately make good managers in construction industries. He stressed that students should give value to time management that is helpful to execute a project perfectly and in scheduled time. The principal, Dr. U. M. Bhushi presided over the function. The HoD, faculty members of the Department of Civil Engineering, UG and PG students participated.

Prof. Anush Bekal, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering attended the prestigious symposium on "Custom Circuit Design & Layout Implementation conducted by "Synopsys Inc" at The Lalit, New Delhi. The main key focus of this symposium was on challenges and opportunities in custom design implementation, synopsys solution for new age custom design and layout using Laker Tool and TCAD -Sentaurus overview.

Interview round of TCS off-campus recruitment drive at Sahyadri

Mr. Sarfaraz Nawaz Khan H., HR – TAG, Campus recruitment, Tata Consultancy Services, along with his twenty-two member team conducted the interview round of the off-campus recruitment drive. Eighty-seven students from different colleges in the region were interviewed. The results are awaited.


Mahindra & Mahindra Internship at Sahyadri

Internship for the students of semester VI, Mechanical Engineering was conducted by Mahindra & Mahindra. Five students were shortlisted for the final telephonic interview. Amol Deshphande, Assistant Manager - HRD at Mahindra & Mahindra, Mumbai Area, viewed the entire process.

Mr. Twelve students of the college participated in the “The Run Nirbhaya” cross-country 6 kms. Run organized by NITK, Surathkal, held at Mangala Stadium, Mangalore.
