Prof. Dr. Alexander Polupanov of the Russian Academy of Sciences at Sahyadri
 
Prof. Dr. Alexander Polupanov from Kotel’nikov Institute of Radio-Engineering and Electronics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, gave a special talk to the sixth semester BE students of Electronics and Communication Engineering. His talk mainly emphasized the educational system in Russia and avenues available for higher education. He is a visiting professor to many reputed institutions like Macquarie University, North Ryde, Austria and King’s College, London, UK. He also has worked at Moscow State University of Psychology and Education, IT Department, Chair of Applied Mathematics.
Prof. C. Ranganathaiah,Director of Research, Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Prof. Richard Pinto from IIT-Bombay and Prof. Umashankar, Dean-Academics with other faculty members from research department were present. Prof. C. Ranganathaiah in his introductory speech appreciated the caliber of Prof. Alexander Polupanov for his research in Physics as well his ability to venture into various other disciplines of learning as well.
In a separate session after having interactions with the students, Prof. Alexander Palupanov gave a special lecture to the research faculty on his latest paper on ‘Recurrent sequences in solving the Schrödinger equation’.
On his walk around the Campus, Prof. Alexandra was deeply appreciative of the beauty of the Campus.

Arena – 2015: Annual Sports Day
 
Mr. Abhishek Pakare, national athlete, the Chief Guest inaugurated “Arena- 2015” the annual athletic meet of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and declared the meet open. In his inaugural address, he called on the gathering to give importance not only to academics but also to sports. He praised his sports mentor Mrs. Nitisha Rodriques, the Director of Physical Education on how she had cultivated his love for sports as his coach. He was very happy to be invited to Sahyadri as the Chief Guest and was delighted to be given the opportunity to be part of the sports Meet.
A March Past by the engineering students was the highlight of the inaugural session. The first year, Section G, won the first place in the March Past. The second place was bagged by the first year Section A while the third prize went to first year Section I. The prize winners of the various events were honoured on the occasion. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, Dr. A .J. Antony, Vice Principal, along with HoD's and faculty members were present on the occasion.

SPSS Workshop on Patents & Publications Held in the Campus
 
An SPSS Workshop on Patents & Publications was held in the Campus. Prof. Umashankar B. S., Dean Academics, welcomed the chief guest Shri. V. L. Krishnamurthy, General Manager-Operations, MRPL and Shri. Nandakumar, Deputy General Manager, MRPL. The chief guests delivered a talk on “Energy Scenario - MRPL Perspective”. In a separate session, Dr. Gautham Jeppu, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management presented a tropic on “How to Write a Technical Paper”. Following after, Dr. Rathishchandra Gatti, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management presented a topic on “How to File a Patent”. Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication informed all the SPSS students to complete their projects by 15th of April, 2015. All the SPSS projects will be presented during "Tech Vision -2015" which will be held on the 9th and the 10th of May, 2015 in the Campus. All the 250 SPSS students and 30 faculty members attended this workshop.

MCF Recruitment Drive
 
Mangalore Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd. (MCF) conducted a recruitment drive in the Campus for Mechanical Engineering students. 200 students from pool colleges participated in the drive. The results are awaited.

Federal Bank Campus Recruitment Drive
 
Federal Bank conducted a recruitment drive in the Campus. 140 engineering students of the 2015 batch from pool colleges participated in the drive. The results are awaited.

Manipal Technologies Recruitment Drive
 
Manipal Technologies conducted a recruitment drive in the Campus. 180 Engineering and MCA students of 2015 batch from pool colleges participated in the drive. 18 students have been shortlisted for the final interview. The results are awaited.

First round of college level TCS- Tech Bytes IT- Quiz Competition
First round of college level TCS- Tech Bytes IT- Quiz Competition was conducted on 9th March 2015 with the participation of more than 90 teams. Prof. Prabhakara B. K. and Mr. Shailesh Shetty S., Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, coordinated the event.
Top ten teams were selected in this round to represent the college in the regional level of IT- Quiz Competition.
Selected top ten teams from all the engineering colleges in the Mangaluru region will participate in the second round of TCS-Tech Bytes Quiz Competition to be held at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management on 19th March.

Mr. Manoj Kumar A. P. Successfully Defends his Doctoral Thesis
Mr. Manoj Kumar A.P., Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, completed his doctoral studies at NITK, Surathkal by successfully defending his thesis titled “Effect of biodiesel blends on selective catalytic reduction system to reduce NOx in diesel vehicles.” He has to his credit, six International journal publications and several international/national conference publications. He carried out his research work under the guidance of Dr. P. Mohanan, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, NITK, Surathkal.

Tetherfi Technologies Recruitment Drive
Tetherfi Technologies Pvt. Ltd. conducted a recruitment drive in the Campus for CS, IS and EC engineering students. Twenty-four students from Sahyadri participated in the drive and fourteen students have been shortlisted for the interview. The final results are awaited.

Guest Talk – Centrum Direct Ltd., Forex & Financial Planning Services
Mr. R. P. Shetty, Senior Vice-President, Ms. Teena Pereira, Senior Executive – Sales and Mr. Shounakh, Senior Executive – Sales of Centrum Direct Ltd., addressed the students of final year MBA seeking placement opportunities in Finance, Marketing and HR domain. Students were introduced to Centrum Direct Ltd. by giving them heads up on the areas of operations, different placement opportunities, and the job description of the vacancies available in their organization. Pooled campus will be held at St. Aloysius College, Mangalore on March 14 - 15, 2015, and the students were stimulated to register on the spot. Opportunities are available to work in the airport or in their offices located all over India. A quiz was conducted based on their presentation and prizes were distributed.

Mechanical Engineering Football Team Emerge Winners
The students of Department of Mechanical Engineering have emerged as the winners in the UG Inter-Branch Football Tournament organized by the Department of Physical Education. They defeated the IInd Semester Physics Cycle team in the finals. Fourteen teams participated in the tournament.
