Spiritual Discourse on Self Realization by Poojya Gurumaata Amma

Poojya Gurumaata Amma, visited Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and gave a discourse on "Self Realization". Chairman Mr. Manjunath Bhandary in his introductory speech explained the importance of Self Realization. Poojya Gurumaata Amma later in her discourse session, briefed about self realization and emphasized that every man has an unique mind and that he should shift thoughts from the mind to the heart. She also emphasized about the attitude which we inherit, and stressed that we should love what we do. Amma also highlighted that man should think and act in order to realize the potential energy within him. She even sharpened the minds of the audience by saying that, when mind is expanded, we can explore one's self . The discourse sessions were conducted separately for the teaching and non-teaching staff.

Poojya Gurumatha Amma is the founder and guiding light of the Sreedhara Sri Gudda Center for Self Realization, Bangalore, India. She often travels around the world to meet devotees, delivers self realization talks and gives meditation and yoga retreats.

In the validectory, Poojya Gurumatha Amma was felicitated by Dr. Antony A. J., Vice Principal, Prof. B. S. Umashankar, Dean Academics and Mrs. Shreelatha AAO. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Professor, Dept. of Business Administration proposed the Vote of thanks.


Mr. Sairam Iyer Well-Wisher Visits Sahyadri

Mr. Sairam Iyer, co-founder and Chairman of the leadership development and consultancy company, Tatvă Leadership and Management Services Pvt. Ltd., visited Sahyadri along with his sisters and nieces, Mrs. Sadhana Srinivasan, based in the US and Mrs. Rajini Chandrashekar, based in the UK.

Mr. Iyer graduated in Metallurgy from the College of Engineering, Pune. He serves in the board of BG Shirke Construction Technology Ltd. (Sri Lanka) . He has promised to connect Sahyadri to financial service organizations such as Goldman Sachs and several Civil engineering organizations. He is a well-wisher of Sahyadri and was happy to witness the ambience of the College and also appreciated the infrastructure and facilities provided.

Mr. Sairam Iyer is closely associated with Shri. Prithviraj Chauhan, the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

Athlein-2015: Annual Athletic Meet for PG Students

The Annual Athletic Meet `Athlein-2015’ for Postgraduate students was conducted in the Campus. Mr. Prasheel Shetty, National Level Volleyball player was the Chief Guest for the inaugural function. The meet began with the march-past by the students. Mr. Abhilash, Student Sports Coordinator welcomed the gathering. The Chief Guest hoisted the flag and gave his inaugural address and declared the meet open. Mr. Sunil Kumar, Student Sports Coordinator delivered the vote of thanks. Ms. Mallika DKG was the Master of Ceremony. Various athletic events and fun games were held for the students. All the winners were felicitated on the same day.

Mr. Rakshith Raj K. R., Semester II, M.Tech. (Computer Science) won the Individual Championship in the boy’s section, Ms. Vidhya Lakshmi, Semester VI, MCA won the Individual Championship in the girl’s section. The Over-all Championship in the boy’s section was won by the M.Tech. and the Over-all Runners-Up in the boy’s section was won by MBA. The Over-all Championship in the girl’s section was won by MBA and the Over-all Runners-Up in the girl’s section was won by MCA. The Over-all Championship (Boys & Girls combined) was won by MBA. In the March-Past, second year MBA won the First place, the Second place went to first year MBA and the Third place went to M.Tech. (Civil). The event formally ended with the lowering of the flag and declaring the meet closed by Dr. Antony A. J., Vice Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Mangament.

ACCE Mangalore Centre Celebrates Engineer’s Week-2015 at Sahyadri

The Association of Consulting Civil Engineer’s (ACCE) Mangalore Centre, organised technical talks on the occasion of Engineer’s Week - 2015 for the students of Civil Engineering. The guest speakers were Dr. H. C. Chinnagiri Gowda and Dr. M. K. Nagaraj.

Dr. H. C. Chinnagiri Gowda spoke on the topic “Earthquake Engineering” and Dr. M. K. Nagaraj gave a talk on “Systems Approach in Infrastructure Development.”

Er. Prem Salian, Convener of Engineer’s week, Er. Naveen Kumar, Member of ACCE and Er. Mahendra Kumar, Selection Grade Lecturer, Faculty of Civil Engineering Department, KPT, Mangalore were also present at the occasion.

HoD Prof. Umesh S. S., faculty members and students of the Department of Civil Engineering, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management were present on this occasion.

In theTech Yuva 2K15; a National Level Technical and Cultural fest organized by Srinivas School of Engineering, Mukka, Mangaluru, Mr. Shelton Rainer Pinto won the First place for his paper titled “Impact Factor” in the Paper Presentation Competition. In the Creative Hands (Model Making) Competition, Mr. Abith G., Mr. Tukarama and Mr. Shelton Rainer Pinto won the First place and Mr. Shree Raj, Mr. Rakshith Raj and Mr. Darshan won the Second place.

Allcargo Logistics Ltd. Recruitment Drive

Allcargo Logistics Ltd. conducted a recruitment drive for Mechanical Engineering, MBA and Diploma students of the 2015 batch. Seventy students participated in the drive and the results are awaited.

Faculty Members Attend Symposium-cum-Workshop

Prof. Manjunath Mulimani, Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Prof. Janardhana D. R., Department of Information Science & Engineering attended a Symposium-Cum-Workshop on `IT Innovations for Smart Cities’ at IIIT-Allahabad. Automation and Embedded Software Engineering, IoT (Internet of Things), Cloud Computing, Service Oriented Architectures, Wireless Sensor Networks, Predictive mechanisms and Recommender Systems, Big Data Analytics, Inclusive Technologies were the topics covered during this mega event. This Symposium-Cum-Workshop highlighted that "A Smart City uses Information Technology to enhance performance and wellbeing, to reduce costs and resource consumption and also to engage more effectively and actively with its citizens". There is world-wide interest in Smart Cities and the Govt. of India has announced the formation of around 100 smart cities to be developed in the future. The European Union (EU) has devoted constant efforts to devise a strategy for achieving 'smart' urban growth for its metropolitan city-regions as intricacies especially in a view where I.T. innovations are high.

Faculty Member Attends CII- Knowledge Summit- 2015

Dr. Molly Chaudhuri, HoD (Training) attended the CII-KM Summit; an annual event organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry. CEOs, CKOs, KM Heads and KM Managers converged at this summit to discuss the new directions emerging in the Knowledge economy. This year, the theme was `Digital India: Pathways to a Knowledge Economy’. Over 30 speakers and 200 delegates participated in the two-day event through valuable presentations, panel discussions and knowledge cafes. The Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) awards were also presented to the top practitioners of Knowledge Management (KM) in eight different categories.

Principal and Team of Sri. Adichunchanagiri Shikshana Trust Visit Sahyadri

Dr. S. V. Gururaj, Principal, Sri. Adichunchanagiri Independent PU College (SAIPUC), Shivamogga, Dr. A. T. Shivaramu, Administrative officer, Sri. Adichunchanagiri Shikshana Trust, Mandya Dist. and team visited Sahyadri. They met and interacted with Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal. On their walk around the Campus, they appreciated the infrastructure and discipline of the College.

Principal Invited by MRPL to Conduct Workshop on TQM

Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, was invited by MRPL (Mangalore Refineries & Petrochemicals Ltd.) to conduct a Workshop at their Training Centre on `Total Quality Management – A Way to Eradicate Corruption.’ Sixty employees from Engineers to Chief Managers attended the Workshop.

Prof. S. Manjappa Presents Paper in International Conference

A paper entitled “Physiochemical Investigation of Pre-Hydrolysis Liquor” by Prof. S. Manjappa, Director, R&D and consultancy, was presented in the First International Conference on ‘Recent Advances in Bio-energy Research’ (ICRABR-2015) at the Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Renewable Energy (SSS-NIRE), Kapurthala, India. SSS-NIRE is an autonomous R&D Institution of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India. The objective of the Conference is to disseminate knowledge about the recent advancement in bioenergy research. Earlier, three national conferences were consecutively organized since 2011 on ‘Recent Advances in Bioenergy Research’ at the Institute which had captured Government policies, field experiences and R&D efforts in the development and promotion of bioenergy in India. The Conference was attended by many internationally and nationally reputed scientists.

TIARA-2015

Shelton Rainer Pinto, Semester VIII of the Department of Civil Engineering won the First place for his paper titled “Assessment of Water Quality of Nethravathi” in the Paper Presentation Competition and Abith G. and Shelton Rainer Pinto won the First place in the Thermocol Carving Competition at TIARA- 2015; a National Level Technical Fest organized by St. Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangaluru.

Sahyadrians Win in `Sentia’

In the State Level Inter-collegiate Cultural, Technical and Management Fest "Sentia" held at Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering, Moodbidri, Sheetal P. N. Semester VIII, Department of Computer Science & Engineering secured the Second place in the Technical Paper Presentation Competition. Veer Jain, Semester VIII, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Sheetal P.N. also secured the Second place in the English Debate Competition.

Sahyadri Boys Runners-Up in the VTU Mangalore Zone Hockey Tournament

The Boys’ Hockey Team of the College were Runners-up in the VTU Mangalore Zone Hockey Tournament held at NMAMIT, Nitte.
