Chairman Conferred Second National Karnataka Education
Award 2016

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, was conferred the Second National Karnataka Education Award – 2016 by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and CMAI Association of India for his excellent contribution to education. The award ceremony was organized by the Visvesvaraya Technological University & CMAI Association of India with support of AICTE, AIU, NIELIT, Dept. of Telecom, DeITy, MSME, MNRE & MHRD at the VTU Centers for PG Studies, Muddenahalli, Chikkaballapur District.

Trustee Members of the College, Mr. Jagannath Chowta and Mr. Devadas Hegde along with the Principal Dr. U. M. Bhushi received the award on behalf of the Chairman, presented by the Hon’ble Shri. T.B. Jayachandra, Cabinet Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Higher Education, Karnataka, Hon’ble Shri. R. V. Deshpande, Minister for Large & Medium Industries & Tourism, Karnataka, Hon’ble Dr. H. Maheshappa, Vice Chancellor Visvesvaraya Technological University and Prof. N.K. Goyal, President, CMAI Association of India and several representatives from the industry.

CMAI is the only integrated professional registered Association in India for ICT, Education, Cyber security, Communications, Multimedia, Manufacturing Industries and Infrastructure Sector having more than 48,500 stakeholders as its members. It is an apex premier body with more than 54 International and Domestic MOU partners and representatives all over the world. In Education field CMAI is known for Cyber Security, Vocational Courses, National and State Level Education Summit and Awards etc. CMAI has so far trained more than 10,000 delegates in Cyber security and CMAI interacts with more than 1,00,000 Educational Institutes. CMAI is also known for CMAI ICT World Communication Awards, Global ICT Forum, training and formation of Cyber Security-Ethical Hacking and Safe Web Development.

Team Hawk grabs fourth place at SAE Aero Design (East), Fortworth, Texas, USA

Team Hawk cleared the inspection round and grabbed the fourth place in Oral Presentation round in Micro Class Category at the SAE Aero Design (East) competition, Fort Worth, Texas, USA. They stand at first position in the Oral Presentation round among the Indian teams at the competition.

Team HAWK members are Mohammad Anwar, Tharanath, Gouse Khan M S, Midhun Jyothis, Gerald K Antony, Rajgokul Ganiga P S, Nitin S Prakash, Probid J and Amrutha Khandare who presented their Aero design model at the competition. The SAE Aero Design - East competition was held in Fort worth, Texas, USA from 11-13 March 2016 and conducted by NASA and Lockheed Martin.

Team HAWK is one among the two teams from Karnataka, with 75 teams from around the world participating in the SAE International Aero Design – East.

Campus Recruitment Drives

Silver Peak Global visited Sahyadri to conduct a campus recruitment drive for engineering students of the 2016 batch. Silver Peak Global are a Business Consulting and Knowledge Management organization with a presence in India, Japan, Philippines, S. Korea, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Silver Peak has been associated with various Industrial houses and leading consulting firms. With offices spread across 6 countries, Silver Peak has the unique advantage of creating numerous business opportunities for its partners. 21 Students have been selected in this recruitment process

Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (MCF) conducted the campus recruitment drive for Diploma - Chemical , Electrical , Mechanical and Electronics and Communication branch candidates. 150 students from the various Diploma colleges were part of the recruitment process. Final results are awaited.

Melissa Rego, Kirthi Shenoy P, Pooja, Rithika B S from the Department Of Computer Science & Engineering and Safiyulla from the Department of Mechanical Engineering have been shortlisted to attend the TVS Motor Company Ltd. - Utkarsh -2016 Assessment Center, Round 2 to be held at their company premises.

Saathvika Hegde , student of Computer Science and Engineering has been selected by the Tally Solutions in the recently held campus recruitment drive.



People Gamut, Campus Recruitment Drive for MBA

People Gamut, a Human Resource Management and consulting organisation visited the campus for recruitment drive exclusively for Sahyadri MBA students in their Staffing Department.

Mr. Sherwin Mabin, Managing Partner, Ms. Suman Shenoy, Technical Recruiter and Mr. Shanawaz, Technical Recruiter, in their pre-placement talk addressed the students of MBA and emphasised on the management skills that are expected abundantly in an MBA professional. They outlined the role of duties the new recruit would be handling and also gave a brief background about their company.

MBA students emerge as the Overall Champions in the Management fest

MBA students emerge as the Overall Champions in one of the most esteemed Management fest – ‘SHRESHTA 2016’, organised by SDM Post Graduate Centre for Management Studies and Research, Mangalore. Eleven students from MBA department participated in various events during the management fest. The students have raised the banners of Sahyadri high by winning the Overall Championship Trophy. They have emerged as champions among participants from nineteen colleges of various cities including Bangalore and Mysore.

Kudos to Sahyadri Motorsports

The team “Sahyadri Motorsport” was awarded as the most “Professional Team” at the International Series of Karting-2016 held at Lahari resorts Hyderabad. This event witnessed participation from over 100 technical institutes. The team received appreciation from the organizers for clearing all the preliminary rounds at the top.

26 students drawn from different discipline built the car. They would be participating in the next season of the International series of Karting to be held in Bangalore later this year. The entire delegation was accompanied by Mr. Prasad Chandran, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

MBA students secure Runners up in the Management Fest

MBA students secured Runners up position in the Management fest organised by Shree Devi Institute of Technology, Mangalore. Sixteen students from the department participated in various events like Icebreaker, Human Resource, Marketing, Finance and Best Manager. This event witnessed the participants from twenty one colleges of various cities and states including Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Student Enterprise by MBA students

“OLS, an Online Laundry Service” headed by Harsharaj Rai partnered with Praveen Kumar, Swathi SL and Ankith from 1st Year Sahyadri MBA Batch 2015-17 is a Student Enterprise that has added another feather on Sahyadri’s Hat. Harsharaj is from Sullia who did his BBM from Nehru Memorial College. He has also worked for one and half year as a Finance Executive in Nandi Toyota, Bangalore. In the idea generation stage of Student Enterprise Training, his team did a thorough market research and came to a conclusion of launching a Luxurious Men’s Salon in the surrounding area of Sahyadri, however considering the huge investment, the team then came up with an excellent idea of Online Laundry Services which is now located in Adyar. This team has two employees recruited already and have completed one month of operations. Faculties and students of Sahyadri are now their happy customers.

Technical Talk for Civil Engineering Students

Mr. Nagesh Puttaswamy, Regional Head (Tech), Ultratech Cement, delivered a technical talk on 'Advances in Concrete Materials and Practices' for the second and final year Civil Engineering students. The students interacted with the resource person and procured valuable information regarding current trends in Civil Engineering.

Ms. Likitha M G, Fourth Semester, Civil Engineering student was awarded with a Certificate of Merit and a cash prize of Rs 2000 by Mr. Nagesh Puttaswamy, Regional Head (Tech), Ultratech Cement Ltd., on behalf of Ultratech Cement Ltd, for scoring highest marks in Concrete Technology in the Third Semester exam conducted by VTU.

Arena 2016: Annual Athletic Meet held in the Campus

Arena 2016 the Annual Athletic Meet was held in the campus. Ms. Ashwini Kumari B., RTL Design Engineer, Intel Bangalore and an alumna of the institute was the chief guest for the inaugural function. The chief guest hoisted the flag and in her address she asked the students to take part in sports activities because it teaches so many skills. Sahyadri is one of the best colleges which give lots of support and opportunity to showcase one's talent. She then declared the meet open. Principal, Dr. U. M. Bhushi presided over the event. Mr. Sanjay was the Master of Ceremonies. Various Athletic events and fun games were held for the students.

Mr. Sarvesh Martha, Semester IV, mechanical engineering won the Individual Championship in the boys section, Ms. Sushma Shetty, Semester II, J section & Ms. Swathi S.L. Semester II, MBA won the Individual Championship in the girls section. The Over-all Championship in the boys section went to the E&C Branch & the Over-all Runners-Up in the Boys section was won by the CS branch.

Computer Science & Engineering branch were the Over-all Champions in the girls section and the Over-all Runners-Up in the girls section was won by the information science & engineering branch. Over-all Championship (boys & girls combined) went to the computer science & engineering branch for the fourth consecutive year.

In the March Past, Semester IV computer science B section won the first place, the second place went to the first year G section and the third place was bagged by the first year M.Tech. civil engineering students. Electronics & communication engineering B section secured the fourth place while the fifth place was won by the H section. The event formally ended with lowering the flag and declaring the meet closed by Prof. S.S. Balakrishna, vice principal.

Semester I B.E. Results: Sahyadri 75.77%

VTU declares Semester I Engineering results for the academic year 2015-16. Electronics and Communication has obtained 82.50%, Information Science-81.67%, Mechanical Engineering-80.43%, Computer Science & Engineering-74.71%, and Civil Engineering have obtained 57.50%.

Sahyadri MBA ranked 35 among top 100 B- Schools in India

It is the moment of glory and celebration as Sahyadri MBA is ranked 35 among the top 100 B- Schools in India in the beyond IIMs B-school survey 2016 conducted by Higher Education Review Magazine. Sahyadri MBA has also secured 9th rank among the top 10 B-schools in India for industry exposure. This survey was ventured with the motive of finding the best B-Schools in the country with capability of producing next-gen leaders. The survey also tries to come up with some of the untold stories of institutions and the journey of their success and bring such institutions to limelight, so that, their ideologies and methodologies can inspire other institutions in the country to drive on a better path and help India come out of its cocoon to become a nation of managerial brilliance.

Prof. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering presented Sahyadri research projects and facilities at University of Central Florida, USA. Prof. Dr. Varadraj Prabhu, Department Health Management & Informatics, University of Central Florida, USA (former resident of Mangalore) appreciated the growth made by Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management in a very short span of time. He was handed-over Sahyadri Newsletter, Sahyadri Research Brochure and invited to visit Sahyadri campus during his next visit to Mangalore.

Faculty Member interacts with Research Associate Dean, UCF, USA

Prof. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering interacted with Dr. Thomas Wan, Research Associate Dean, Health Management and Informatics, University of Central Florida, USA and Dr. Xinliang "Albert" Liu, Medical Practitioner, University of Central Florida, USA. During his interaction Dr. Thomas Wan gave his valuable insights into the world of medical informatics and its applications. He emphasized the need of multidisciplinary research and promised to extend his complete support and research guidance. This meeting was presided by Dr. Varadraj Prabhu, Department Health Management & Informatics, University of Central Florida, USA.

Faculty Member and Research Scholar attends International Conference

B. Raghavendra Prabhu, Assistant Professor and Mr. Karthik P Bhandary, Research Scholar, Department of Business Administration attended the International Conference on 3i –" Intelligence, Innovation and Inclusion- Best Practices for Global Excellence” at Pondicherry University, held on 11th and 12th March, 2016 . In the conference they presented a paper titled “ Feasibility Study of selling Fresh Grated Kernels to the Bottom of the Pyramid”.

Mrs. Mitra K , Head of the Department, Mathematics, Prof. S.A.Mariadoss, Adjunct faculty and Mrs. Sunitha Priya D’silva , Assistant Professor, department of mathematics attended the UGC sponsored two day National Conference on ‘ENERGY OF GRAPHS’ organized by Department of Mathematics, Maharani’s Science College for Women, Mysuru in association with the department of studies in Mathematics , University of Mysore, at B.N. Bahadur Institute of Management Sciences ,Manasagangothri, Mysuru. Mrs. Mitra K, Head of the Department, Mathematics presented a technical paper on “2- distance defensive alliances in graphs” in the conference.
