KSCST Approves and Sponsors 13 Student Projects in the 39th Series Programme 2015-16

The Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) has approved and sponsored thirteen student projects in the 39th Series Programme 2015-16. In the Mysore region, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has the highest number of projects sponsored by the KSCST. The entire submission process of KSCST projects was coordinated by Prof. Prasanna Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication and Dr. S. Manjappa, Director (R&D, Consultancy) guided the KSCST submission process. World Water Day Observed in the Campus

Department of Civil Engineering in association with District administration, District Legal Services Authority, Karnataka State pollution Control Board, Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board and Mangalore City Corporation observed World Water Day in the Sahyadri campus.

Sri C.M Joshi, Hon'ble First additional District and Session Judge DK District, inaugurated the ceremony and highlighted the importance of spreading awareness regarding conservation of water. Dr C Rajshekar Murthy, Professor, Emeritus, Environmental Engineering, Canada, spoke about various technical implications employed around the globe for water treatment and water resource conservation processes. Dr H.N.Gopalakrishna, KAS, Commissioner, Mangalore City Corporation spoke about the daily water demand in urban cities and measures implemented in developing cities to meet this demand and also encouraged students to find career opportunities in the field of water sustainability.

Ms Kavyashree M P, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Civil Engineering coordinated the program and Prof Umesh S S, HOD, Dept. of Civil Engineering headed the organizing committee.

Vice Principal participates in National Conference on “Making India a Global Hub for Quality Higher Education”

Prof. S. S. Balakrishna, Vice Principal, attended a one-day National Conference on “Making India a Global Hub for Quality Higher Education” at Hotel Lalit, Bengaluru. Education Promotion Society for India (EPSI), a national body representing the private universities and colleges across the country, organized the conference in association with KUPECA and COMEDK. The conference was inaugurated by Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, Hon’ble Minister of HRD, Government of India among a host of senior dignitaries and academicians. Shri. T. B. Jayachandra, Hon’ble Minister of Higher Education and Shri. Sharan Prakash R. Patil, Hon’ble Minister of State for Medical Education, Karnataka Government, were present on the occasion. More than 300 Chancellors, Vice-Chancellors, Directors and Principals from the Higher Education institutions attended the conference. The conference discussed the road map for “Making India a Global Hub for Quality Higher Education” and addressed some of the pressing issues related to higher education viz. globalization, student’s mobility and improving the access of quality higher education to the poor students. Financing higher education and the challenge for equity & access and roles of values in higher education were deliberated upon in various plenary sessions.

In a major move, Smt. Smriti Irani announced that “Institutions under AICTE, if they are accredited by NBA for five years will get automatic approval for the next five years”. She added that the University Grants Commission and other regulatory bodies should become enablers for private institutions with a good performance record. Affiliated or accredited colleges performing well shall be given autonomous status. Those colleges/institutions which are NAAC accredited with highest grade of accreditation and have completed ten years of existence should be encouraged by the State for giving autonomous status.

Oratocrats Club Members Attend Sci-Fi Fest "Epsilon 2016"

The student members of the Oratocrats Club of the College; a forum for future leaders, attended the PESIT College Sci-Fi Fest "Epsilon 2016" in Bangalore. They participated in various techno-literary events including "Convergence", where one had to formulate theories to explain various science fiction phenomenons like invisibility, Wolverine's healing capabilities, Teleportation, Matrix, White Hole, Dark Matter Engine etc. and defend their theories. In another event called "Imposter" the team had to acquire a set of clues in a criminal case and find the culprit by conducting forensic tests and interrogation. The "Sci-Fi" expo involved presenting new breakthrough projects which were conceived in science fiction movies of the yesteryears. In "Blitzkrieg" student teams had to build a working moving model of a car from the junk given to them. "Judgment Day" was a technical treasure hunt to solve a set of clues by using engineering skills in order to save the world and "Close Encounter" was a debate on scientific issues.

The team learnt a lot of innovative concepts, interacted with students and professors of various colleges enabling the intellectual exchange of ideas. The teams’ participation, discipline, creativity and involvement in all events were appreciated by the coordinators of the fest.

Martyrs Day Observed at Sahyadri

Martyrs Day was observed in the College. Mr. Joseph V. J. and Mr. Shivaram Rai were the chief guests on the occasion.

Hawaldar Joseph V. J. with an experience of 18 years in the Indian Army came all the way from Rajasthan to encourage students. He is the brother of Francis, manager-administration. He spoke about his experience on the Siachen border where he was posted for three years and urged students to do their bit for the nation. He said, “Becoming a soldier is not an easy task, but becoming something your nation will remember is not that difficult to do”.

Mr. Shivaram Rai also an ex-army man, and has been serving in Sahyadri encouraged the students and inspired them to conduct such events. He spoke about the importance of time and discipline in life.

Nivya Rodrigues, I semester, elctronics and communication shared the importance of this day. Patriotic songs were sung by Kaushal & Malavika. Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Prof. Umashankar B.S., Dean Academics Mrs. Shreelatha U A, AAO., and Prof. Rakshith Shetty were present on the occasion. Students themselves gave the idea of observing Martyrs Day. Karthik Ramakrishna, President, Student Council and its members made the event an auspicious one.

Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Pool Campus Recruitment Drive

Sunil P. R., Sachin Harawadekar and Sudharshan Y., second year MBA students have been recruited by Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Mr. Chandrahas Shetty, Sr. Vice President, Human Resources, Mr. Viren Doshi, Manager, Human Resources, Mr. Suchil Kumar, Regional Manager and Mr. Santosh Mandal, Regional Manager, Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd., visited the campus to conduct a pool campus recruitment drive.

Wuerth Elektronik India Pool Campus Recruitment Drive

Wuerth Elektronik India Pvt. Ltd. conducted a pooled campus recruitment drive for engineering and diploma students of the 2015 & 2016 batch. 500 students participated in the recruitment process. Mrs. Mamatha Prabhu, HR & Admin, Wuerth Elektronik India Pvt Ltd., accompanied by the panelists was at the campus to facilitate the entire process.

M. Tech. Semester I Results

VTU has declared the 2015-16 Semester I M.Tech. results. Computer Science & Engineering (SCS-CS) has obtained 92.86%, Machine Design (MMD-ME) 84.62%, Structural Engineering (CSE-CV) 84.21%, Computer Aided Design Of Structures (CCS-CV) 81.25%, VLSI Design & Embedded Systems (LVS-EC), Production Technology(MPY-ME), and Computer Networks(SCN-IS) have obtained 75%, 66.67% and 50%, respectively.

Workshop On Python Application Building

A two-day workshop on Application Building using Python was held for the semester VI students of computer science and information science engineering. Forty-two students were part of the workshop. Mr. Vinay Raghavan, Tech Lead, Future Focus Infotech was the resource person. Students learnt new python frameworks and will have a chance to intern at Future Focus Infotech.

MBA students bag second place in Management Fest `Crossroads’

MBA students Vishnu Prasad, Semester IV and Renita D’Cunha, Semester II clinched the second position in the Strategic Management event `Illuminati’ at the management fest `Crossroads’ organized by the Department of Business Administration, Mangalore University, Mangalagangotri. It is a national level business schools meet where students from various regions participate to learn the art of multitasking, time management, soft skills, how to handle pressure and communication.

Students Celebrate the Festival of Colours

The College was vibrant with colours as the students celebrated Holi; the Festival of Colours in the campus. Students were led to the College ground in a procession dacing to the tunes of Nasik band. DJ Vipin Shenoy kept the crowd on their feet with his electric performance. The students rejoiced as water was sprayed on them from a tanker. This celebration was an opportunity for the in-house startup, Online Laundry Service to make good sales of their T-shirts.

The final year mechanical engineering students under the leadership of Jnanesh B. arranged the band, DJ, speakers, the tanker and also organic powder for the students to purchase and use. The Festival of Colours created a unique bond between all members of the Sahyadri family as the celebrations reverberated with joy, music and laughter.

Prof. Shailesh Shetty S., Department of Computer Science and Engineering was invited to judge the event `Dubmash’ in YEN SPLASH XVI, an inter-collegiate technical & cultural fest organised by Yenepoya Institute of Technology, Moodbidri.

Faculty Member Invited to deliver Guest Lecture

Prof. Ramesh K. G., Department of Business Administration, was invited by the Department of PG studies, SMS College, Brahmavar to deliver a guest lecture on "Insurance Management". The lecture covered varied topics like Social Insurance, Pension Plans, Insurance Pricing, Govt. role in Development of Insurance Sector and Disaster Management.
