Sahyadrians win first prize in NIT, Tiruchirappalli Sahyadrians win first prize in NIT, Tiruchirappalli Students of first year Engineering won first place in the event “Robovision” at Pragyan 2017 - The Annual International Techno-Management fest of National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli.

Abhishek M, Abhishek M B, Badruddin B A, Deepthi , H Ashwin Prabhu, H Siddanth Nayak, H Ranjith Rao, Kaushik K, Krishna Karanth S, Kshithija J S, N Avinash Nayak, Prashamsa P, Prithviraj Ranjan Kumar, Rishel Saldanha, Rohan Sathish Acharya, Sheershika S Shetty, Shreyas Kamath, Sharanya M S, Sreelakshmi C, Usha B along with Mr. Gautham Nayak ( Technical Trainer, DTlabz) took part in the event. The team won first prize amongst participants from various IITs and NITs. Students were trained by Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd.

The team was successful in building an image processing robot which could recognize shape and colour and then collect these resources and return to its home position autonomously to achieve the target score using an overhead camera feed. The team completed the entire task in just 36 seconds and was the only robot to finish the task with maximum points.

Grand Finale Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2017 The Grand Finale of ‘Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2017’, an inter-collegiate quiz competition was held in Srishti, Sahyadri Open Auditorium. Out of 5,000 students who appeared for the Campus Level Quiz, 750 participants of 31 colleges from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Madikeri and Kasargod districts qualified for the Grand Finale. The day witnessed a mammoth crowd of students who were enthusiastic to combat in the mega final. In the Inaugural Ceremony, Prof. Ramesh K G, Chief Coordinator of the event welcomed the gathering and gave a glimpse of our institute and also the achievements of the department. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration gave the bird’s eye view of the flagship event - Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2017 and stressed that the basic premise of conducting this event was to create Knowledge Capital which plays a key role in today’s competitive world.

Grand Finale Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2017 Guruprasad H D, Talent HR Manager at KPMG Mr. Kishan Shetty, Chairman and MD of Chloris Group of Companies, the Chief Guest in his inaugural address congratulated Sahyadri for conceiving the great idea of quizzing in the region. He re-iterated that quiz creates curiosity and curiosity is the mother of learning. Curiosity in every walks of life leads to success and hence he advocated all the students to be curious throughout their life and enjoy the process of learning. Mr. Guruprasad H D, Talent HR Manager at KPMG, Guest of Honour, in his speech, mentioned that he has been associated with Sahyadri for Campus Placements since several years and applauded the students who are recruited from Sahyadri as they are the most hard-working and stand out with their exemplary performance. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, while addressing the gathering advised students to nurture humbleness and simplicity in their lives and encash this opportunity to interact with the rest of the student community from various colleges.

The programme was a blend of Quiz and Cultural Show spiced up with the peppy talk from Mr. Abhijith Karkera, Managing Partner and Marketing Head, VIBRANT MINDS.

Grand Finale Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2017 winner MAPS College, Mangaluru emerged as the Champions with a trophy and Cash Prize of Rs.25000/- and two teams from SDM College, Mangaluru won 2nd and 3rd Prize with trophy and cash prize of Rs.15000/- and Rs.10000/-.

Women’s Day Programme organized by MBAs On the occasion of International Women’s Day - Zin Shantha, Zumba Fitness Instructor & Sonika Nischal, Entrepreneur - Blushing Brides, an alumna of our institute (MBA Batch 2012-14) was invited for a Guest Talk with 1st year MBAs. These achievers from the woman fraternity have inspired, influenced and made an impact on lives of many. Their experience sharing session has instilled immense confidence among the students. Post the talk, Zin Shan conducted a Zumba session in which all our students participated with enormous liveliness.

Women’s Day Programme organized by MBAs Zin Shantha is an International licensed Zumba instructor. She is also a certified trainer in Aerobics, Personal trainer & Pilates. She is a member of Zumba instructors Network. Presently, she works in Zuese Fitness club, Gold’s international gym, Body Basics, Max Fitness as a Freelance instructor. Zin Shan has conducted several fitness programmes and Zumba workshops for students of schools, colleges and employees of IT companies in and around Mangaluru.

Sonika Nischal is a Woman Entrepreneur owning Blushing Brides - a One stop shop for Brides. She expressed how she grew up from being just the dreamer to an achiever. She mentioned of the turning point in her life when one of her mentors urged her to evaluate self, pursue her passion and kick-start with her career and now she has launched her brand online which she is thinking to expand when she builds more contacts. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration - an icon for women leadership, also addressed the students with her success story which would be a pathway to success to many others.

Federal Bank recruitment drive Federal Bank conducted the recruitment drive for the graduates at Sahyadri campus. 180 candidates were part of the recruitment process. Mr. Sanjo J Joseph, Senior Manager & Branch Head, Federal Bank accompanied by panellists on the recruitment team were at the campus to facilitate the entire recruitment process.

Dr.-Pavanaja-presents-Technical-talk-to-Pre-final-year-students Department of Information Science & Engineering organized a technical talk titled “Current IT Skills in Demand” under the banner of Computer Society of India (CSI) Mangaluru-chapter at Sahyadri campus. The renowned spokesperson, Dr. Pavanaja shared vast software development experience with the pre-final year students of the department of Information Science. The overall feedback of the talk was found effective.

Musheer Rizvi, an alumnus interacts with MBA Students Musheer Rizvi, an alumnus of Department of Business Administration addressed the first year students on Entrepreneurship. Musheer, currently the franchisee of Nilgiris, Suratkal while addressing the students emphasised on the need to be focused and passionate about the job or business he/she is doing. He shared his experience about the planning phase of inventory in his store and was appreciative about the current second year MBA students of Sahyadri who helped him in the thorough analysis of Suratkal market. He stressed the need to treat customers as King. He enlightened the students on the strategies he used to manage pilferage, people, and inventory. Musheer urged the students to take MS Excel classes seriously as he has realized the extensive benefits of MS Excel in business. He shared his gratitude to the faculty of Department of Business Administration for supporting him in his endeavours. Participants were delighted as they got the practical insights of venturing into a business.

Texas, USA

Sahyadrians participate in SAE International Competition in Texas, USA Ten students - Anwar, Probid, Midhun, Amrutha, Gerald, Gouse Khan, Abith, Shilpa, Shwetha and Pranamya from TEAM CHALLENGERS have travelled to United States of America representing Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management at SAE International Competition which will be held at Texas during March 10th – March 12th 2017. SAE International is an Aeromodelling competition conducted by Society of Automotive Engineers annually which attracts participants from across the globe. During their stay in the United States, they will be visiting NASA. Sahyadri wishes good luck to these students and wish that they return with flying colours.

A seminar on Java Application Development & IT Trends organized by CSE Department A seminar on Java Application Development & IT trends was facilitated by Ms. Pavithra Vikas, Business Partner, NIIT, Mangaluru and Mr. Saravanan P, Territory Delivery Lead, NIIT, Mangaluru for 8th Semester CSE students. The students were given an insight about the role of Java in the software industry and were also briefed about IT trends.

Visit to IISC, Bengaluru for Open Day Exhibition Dr. C. K. Manjunath, Prof. of Humanities & Administrator accompanied the 1st year engineering students for the Open day exhibition organized by Indian Institute of Science. The purpose of this event was to Explore, Experience and Enjoy the field of Science and Technology. There were plenty of Live Experiments, Popular Science Lectures, Scientific Demos and Exhibitions. It was delightful to view the huge campus. Every department demonstrated the unique experiments. Departments like Aerospace Engineering, Chemistry, Croyogeny, supercomputing, Nano Sciences, Library, Centre for Ecological Sciences, Material science etc were visited. It was an honour to meet & interact with Prof. Jagadish Gopalan, the Aerosapce Scientist.

Prof. Gayathri Shetty Prof. Gayathri Shetty, Department of Business Administration attended a Two-Day International Conference on “Fostering Innovation in Financial Inclusion: Bridging Resources and Opportunities” (FIFI 2017) in association with International 'We Serve' Foundation, Lexington, Kentucky, USA and presented a paper titled “Microfinance Institutions: Challenges and Strategies”. The conference was organized by Centre for Advanced Research in Financial Inclusion, School of Management, Manipal University.

Alumni interacts with students and faculty members Mr. Rakesh and Ms. Swathi, Alumni of our institute who are currently working as Design Engineers in Poorna Consulting Engineers, Bengaluru addressed the students of sixth and seventh semester, Department of Civil Engineering. They briefed the students on the work methods and work culture in industries that are essential to meet the global demands in Civil Engineering. They shared useful tips on facing challenges in the industries and also on how one's attitude towards work should be inculcated. Post interacting with the students they also spoke to the HOD and faculty members of the department.
