Team Challengers positioned 6th in SAE International Aerodesign West at Fort Worth, Texas

Team Challengers positioned 6th in SAE International Aerodesign West at Fort Worth, Texas Team Challengers participated in SAE International Aerodesign West held at Fort Worth, Texas and secured 6th position in micro class category. The team comprised of Probid J Panikkan, Gerald K Antony, Gouse Khan, Amrutha Khandare, Midhun Jyothis, Pranamya, Shilpa, Shwetha and Mohammad Anwar. The team is now geared up to participate in SAE International Aerodesign East to be held at Florida in the month of April 2017.

SAE international Aerodesign is conducted by Lockheed Martin and Dassault system and 75 teams all over the world participate in this competition every year.

MBAs present the State Budget 2017-18

MBAs present the State Budget 2017-18 The Department of Business Administration organized a presentation and discussion of State Budget 2017-18 at campus. Three Groups comprising of eleven students presented on three themes viz (a) Health, Education and other welfare programmes (b) Infrastructure and Industrial Development Programmes (c) Agriculture and Rural Development programmes that were proposed in the State Budget presented by Honorable Chief Minister Shri. Siddaramaiah on the 15th of March 2017. The presentation by the students was followed by questions to the participating teams by the two Resource Persons, Dr. Savitha, Professor, School of Management Manipal University and Prof. Hariprasad Shetty from Government First Grade College Vamadapadavu, Bantwal.

Dr. Savitha, expressed her critical views on budget stating that, though some of the programmes proposed in the budget for health, education, infrastructure and industrial development are laudable, there is no sincere effort in the budget to enhance the revenue of the State.

MBAs present the State Budget 2017-18 Prof. Hariprasad Shetty, in his address stated that with the abolition of planning commission and finance commission, State government have a key role to play in health, education, agriculture and rural development. While critically commenting on the programmes proposed for the development of agriculture and rural development he said that the issue of sustainability is not addressed in the budget.

Sahyadrians Win in Competitions of VTU Youth Fest YUVA KALANJALI - 2017 The VTU Youth Fest - 2017 was held at Sir. M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology, Bengaluru. Thirty-eight students of Sahyadri cultural team contested against 95 VTU affiliated colleges. The team participated in 21 events in the Youth Fest and ranked top 10 in all the events. The team with Chinmaya Bharan M.R. 8th sem CV, Abhishek M.B. 2ndsem Mech, Dhanush D. 2nd sem EC, Navaneeth 6th sem EC, Rupesh 4th sem Mech, Anuraj Chauta 6th sem Mech, Rahul 4th sem Mech won the second place (7 silver medals) in the folk orchestra Competition and received appreciation from various other colleges.

Workshop on “Outcome Based Education” for faculty members Workshop on “Outcome Based Education” was facilitated by Dr. T N Nagabhushan for Sahyadri faculty members. Dr. T N Nagabhushan is an expert in Outcome Based Education (OBE) who is currently the Principal at Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysuru. Dr. Nagabhushan who holds ME and Ph.D degrees from Indian Institute of Science is specialized in Artificial Intelligence. He carries 32 years of experience in teaching, research, industry and administration and has also been a distinguished visiting professor at Korea University, Seoul and Hannan University, Osaka, Japan. He has delivered more than 150 invited talks both in India & abroad. His profile is figured in Worlds Who’s Who 2009 edition and awarded with Best Engineering Professional, Cambridge, UK.

The workshop focused on “Outcome Based Education & its effective implementation to secure Outcome Based Accreditation” which included topics related to Paradigm shift, Overview of OBE, OBE linked to NBA Preparation, Implementation and lastly the Outcome Based Accreditation (OBA). Dr. Nagabhushan emphasized on the need to prepare our students for Global Opportunities. He urged the teaching fraternity to focus on Capacity Empowerment by elevating the standards through high challenging performance. He highlighted the importance of aligning Learning Outcomes for every class engaged, which should contribute to the Knowledge, Skill and Attitude/Personality of the students. He motivated faculty to take up teaching as a passion which will make implementation of OBE easy.

Dr. Mruthyunjaya T.S, Former Professor, IISc Bengaluru, Dr. G K Ananthasuresh, Professor, IISc Bengaluru, Dr. Sudipto Mukherjee, Professor, IIT-Delhi, Dr. Sandipan Bandyopadhyay, Assistant Professor, IIT-Madras, Mr. H N Suresh Kumar, Deputy Project Director, ISRO were the prime resource persons.

Sahyadri recognized as Advanced Partner Institute in Campus Connect Program by Infosys Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management is recognized as Advanced Partner Institute by Infosys for successfully running several Foundation Program batches under its Campus Connect Initiative. Nine batches of students have undergone the course since 2011. Faculty members regularly attend “Train the Trainer” programs conducted by Infosys and in turn they train the students. As part of this program, Infosys conducts workshops and series of webinars on latest technologies. Due to successful implementation of the program, Infosys awarded certificate to the institute during the Principal’s meet-2017 held at Infosys Technologies, Bengaluru. Dr. U M Bhushi, Principal and Prof. M. Srinath, COO & Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering attended the meet.

"Principal’s Meet” is an annual endeavor aimed at interacting and continually adding value to academia. It offers an opportunity for stakeholders of Campus Connect to meet and understand the environment in which it operates and also create a plan to counter new challenges. This year, the theme was "Blended Learning". Around 482 participants including Principals and Single Point of Contact(SPoC)s from around 227 colleges of various states were present in the event.

Perform Group campus recruitment drive Perform Group visited Sahyadri to conduct an exclusive campus recruitment drive for the engineering students of 2017 batch. Preliminary rounds of interview were conducted, of which twelve Sahyadrians have been shortlisted to attend the further rounds of selection. Ms. Bhavya, HR, Perform Group was at the campus to facilitate the entire recruitment process.

Larsen & Toubro pooled campus recruitment drive Larsen & Toubro Limited (L & T) visited Sahyadri to conduct pooled Campus Recruitment Drive for the 2017 batch of Electronics & Communication and Instrumentation Technology branches of engineering. 280 students from various colleges of the district were part of this drive, of which fifty eight students have been shortlisted for the final round of selection. Mr. Rahul Nayak, Manager – HR & Personnel, Larsen & Toubro Limited accompanied by panelists on the recruitment team were at the campus to facilitate the entire process.

Hinduja Global Solutions pooled campus recruitment drive Hinduja Global Solutions visited Sahyadri to conduct pooled campus recruitment drive for the shortlisted candidates in Preliminary round, as part of their final round of selection. Mr. Arjun Rao, Senior Executive Talent Acquisition, Hinduja Global Solutions was at the campus to facilitate the entire process. Results are awaited.

MBA Alumnus interacts with the students

Perform Group campus recruitment drive Mr. Nikhil Noronha, alumnus of Department of Business Administration, an entrepreneur addressed the first year MBA students on his entrepreneurial journey. Mr. Nikhil Noronha completed his MBA in the year 2014 after which he pursued his business ventures. He is currently the Director in 4 Companies: Indies Beverages Private Limited, Indies Technologies Private Limited, Indies Retail Private Limited and Fidelis Beverages Private Limited. He is currently in to Wine Based Cocktail launched under X & Y brand, Hard Liquor in six labels, Wine Retail Stores at Godrej’s Nature Basket Stores at 38 locations and an hourly based hotel booking app called Mozo which will be launched shortly. He informed the students of his clear career goal when he joined MBA course that he was not here to be placed in an organization, but to learn the Entrepreneurial concepts & apply it to his passion of being an entrepreneur. He stressed on the need to have a clear vision and to do enough research before entering into any venture. He also informed the students to focus on the challenges and chalk out SMART strategies to sustain in the market. He urged the students to pay keen attention to practical learning more than theory and offered to help & guide students who would like to see themselves as an entrepreneur. Students had an interactive session and also discussed their entrepreneurial plans with Nikhil.

Dr. C. K. Manjunath attends VMC Meeting at KV-1, Mangalore Dr. C. K. Manjunath, Prof. of Humanities & Administrator had attended Vidyalaya Management Committee meeting held at Kendriya Vidyalaya - 1, Panambur, Mangalore. Meeting was chaired by NMPT chairman and convened by the Principal of the school. Discussions were held on changes in curriculum and examination policies, adding vocational programs, developments and achievements at the school, New Admission Policy, teachers training and procurement of new equipments.

Technical Talk delivered to Civil Engineering Students Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India), Mangalore in association with ACC Ltd organized a technical talk for second year and pre final year Civil Engineering students on behalf of the celebration of Engineer's Week - 2017 (A weeklong event including Seminars, Technical Talks and Training) at Sahyadri campus.

Dr. S. N. Suresh, Assistant Professor, NITK, Surathkal, delivered a technical talk on "Code of Ethics to Practice Civil Engineering," and Er. Anil Hegde, Structural Consultant, Vimal Anil Consultants, Mangalore, delivered a technical talk on "Transformation from Students to Professional Engineers."
