Grand Finale of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2018

Sahyadri-Whiz-Quiz-2018 Dept. of Business Administration organized “Sahyadri Whiz Quiz-2018”, an inter-collegiate quiz competition for undergraduate students. Around 7,000 students from selected 50 colleges in Mangaluru, Udupi, Kodagu, Karwar and Kasargod participated in the college level round, out of which 950 students were selected to participate in the Grand Finale at Sahyadri. The day witnessed an enormous crowd of participating students who were enthusiastic to combat in the final round. Mr. Kamakhaya Prashad Aggarwal, Business Head – Karnataka and Goa, HDFC Ltd was the Chief Guest & Mr. Pradeep Suresh, Director – Financial Accounting Advisory Services, E&Y Associates LLP was the Guest of Honour during the Inaugural Ceremony.

Prof. Gayathri Shetty, Chief Coordinator of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2018 welcomed the gathering. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA introduced Sahyadri and the Dept. of Business Administration to the gathering. She also gave the bird’s eye view of the flagship event Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2018.

Sahyadri-Whiz-Quiz-2018 Mr. Kamakhaya Prashad Aggarwal, in his speech appreciated the efforts of Sahyadri for organizing such a mammoth event. He congratulated the participants as they were the winners of the college level round. He urged students to thing about – “What is success?” and further mentioned that Success is not an end but the journey. To face success, one should set an action-oriented goal emphasizing on short term goals. He said winning the Sahyadri Whiz Quiz should not be the goal, but preparation for the Whiz Quiz should be the goal which transforms the anxiety to confidence in facing the Grand finale.

Sahyadri-Whiz-Quiz-2018 Mr. Pradeep Suresh while addressing the gathering seconded the thought of the Chief Guest and added that achieving success is easy, provided one enjoys the journey. He urged students to invest on self as it is the best investment one could do. He said – “Fail, as long as you are learning from your failure”. He appreciated Sahyadri Whiz Quiz as it pushes students to be inquisitive about current affairs.



Sahyadri-Whiz-Quiz-2018 Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal in his Presidential address conveyed that Sahyadri Whiz Quiz is one of the forums to convert information to wisdom. He urged the students to interact with others during the course of the event and enjoy the day-long process. Prof. Ramesh K G, coordinator of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz gave away the vote of thanks. Mr. Rakshith Shetty was the Quiz Master. Immediately after the formal function, the first preliminary round was held. Out of 315 teams of 3 each, 150 teams qualified to the second preliminary round. Finally 6 teams were selected for the Grand Finale. Swami Maheshathmanandaji, Correspondent, Ramakrishna Institute of Moral & Spiritual Institution, Mysuru & Mr. Jayaraj Rai, Chairman, Shri Ramakrishna Credit Co-operative Society facilitated the winners. Dept. of Commerce, Manipal won 1st prize with a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 25,000, SDM Ujire won 2nd place with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000, St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru won 3rd place with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.

Dr. BVK Sastry Founder of Yoga-Samskrutam UniversityDr. BVK Sastry Founder of Yoga-Samskrutam University A unique interactive session by Dr. BVK Sastry, Founder & Chancellor of Yoga-Samskrutam University, Florida, USA was held at Sahyadri. Selected students of different batches and the Challengers Team along with faculty members attended and participated in the session. Addressing the gathering as “Yogis and Yoginis” to pinpoint the identity of an Indian, Dr. Sastry went on to assert the need of becoming and be a Yogi. “Therefore you become a Yogi” Sri Krishna, the Teacher told Arjuna the student. There can be one’s own reason to support ‘therefore’.

Five students volunteered to respond to Dr. Sastry’s call to take part in a live demo of why India needs language appropriate technology to address the machine demands regarding Indic languages. Two boys and three girls were allotted roles of Hardware, Software, Applications and Standards respectively and at the centre was placed the Language. Inappropriate and mismatch components, either one or all of the four inevitably cause malfunctioning or errors. Once all components are natively produced keeping in view the requirements of the native language, such products make the Indian citizens feel national pride. “Yoga-Samskrutam University”, Dr. Sastry said, “contributes and adds to this pride by researching into and innovatively designing and making technology language appropriate.

Toastmasters of Mangaluru conduct a Demo Meeting at Sahyadri

Toastmasters of Mangaluru conduct a Demo Meeting at Sahyadri Toastmasters of Mangaluru came forward to give a demo at Sahyadri of how a Toastmasters meeting is conducted based on the guidelines and standards set by Toastmasters International. TM Sagnik Biswas of the Infosys Toastmasters Club, Mangaluru SEZ was the Toastmaster of the Day. The speakers were TM Vineeth K from NITK Toastmasters Club and TM Aatish Prabhu from the Milagres Toastmasters Club. Their speeches were evaluated by TM Preetham Kamath, a dual member from the Porttown Advanced Toastmasters Club and Winners Club, and TM Shwetha Dsouza from the Winners Club. The other role takers were TM Savitha Salian as General Evaluator, Distinguished TM Bharathi Shevgoor as Grammarian, TM Brian Fernandes as Table topics Master, all dual members from Porttown Advanced Toastmasters Club and Winners Club, TM Divyashree Gatti from Mangaluru Toastmasters Club and TM Madhura, a member from Inspiron Toastmasters Club. They gave an introduction to each of their roles and demonstrated it in the meeting. The meeting was well attended by about 300 students, staff and faculty of both MBA and Engineering. They also participated in the Table topics. TM Aatish Prabhu was adjudged the Best speaker, TM Preetham Kamath, the best evaluator and Mr. Samarth Shenoy, best table topic speaker. The students, staff and faculty applauded the toastmasters and participants and have expressed interest in starting a Toastmasters club in Sahyadri.

Day One of the Training at RIMSE Day One of the Training at RIMSE Day One of the training programme began after the inauguration. The first session of the day was “Effective Teaching” by Shri Vijay Moodambi who shared his knowledge on how to make the subject delivery effective by all the means such as “Feel, Hear & See”. The second session was facilitated by Col. Mahendra on “Past, Present & Future of Siachen Glacier”. In his talk, he instilled patriotism in the participants and also shared anecdotes of the difficulties faced by the Soldiers at LoC. Post lunch, a session on “Constitutional Values” was conducted by Prof. Suresh Kumar who reiterated each participant on how to be a responsible citizen by knowing the basic constitutional laws. The team was taken to tour the knowledge park, The RIMSE premises and also to Shri Rama Krishna Vidyalaya. The day’s programme concluded with a video about Neelakanta and also other inspirational videos.

Sahyadrians win in the Regional round of “TCS TechBytes”, a State Level Quiz competition

TCS TechBytes Regional round for the Mangaluru region of the 9th Edition - “TCS TechBytes”, a State Level Quiz competition for B.E / B.Tech, organized by the Board of IT Education Standards (BITES) and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Bengaluru was held in Sahyadri Campus. Students of various Engineering colleges of Mangaluru region participated in the first round of regional finals. A total of 6 teams are selected for the 2nd and final round of regional finals. The winners are:

Hands-On session on Salesforce Trailhead for CS & IS Students

Hands-On session on Salesforce Trailhead Students of Computer Science & Information Science Engineering underwent Hands-on session on Salesforce Trailhead. The resource person was Mr. Rajesh Nambiyar, Programme Manager, Salesforce Trailhead for APAC. Trailhead is a free to access platform to learn salesforce skills. He also addressed the students on the IT evolution & the jobs opportunities in salesforce economy. Salesforce is the fastest growing company with 3.3 million jobs to be created in the salesforce economy (according to IDC report). This means that there is a great opportunity for students to get into this domain. In the next 4 years, there will be more than 3.6 lakhs direct jobs which would be created in Salesforce economy.

Three member teaching faculty team - Prof. Raju S & Prof. Ranjendra C J, Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Dr. Siddesh Kumar N G, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, CIT, Tumkur visited Sahyadri to study the incubation and start-up projects initiated by Sahyadri. They interacted with Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal and other key functionaries and HoD’s. They visited DT Labs, RDL, Caliper, Aptra, Cloud Space, Challengers, Dreamers, NAIN, Mech-Tech Garage, Hands-on labs and various other departments. They are overwhelmed by the facilities, infrastructure & encouragement given by the college to the students to make them skilful and job ready. They expressed the gratitude and were pleased by the overall setting of Sahyadri to stimulate young innovators.

Achievements of first year students at Birla Institute of Technology & Science Pilani- Hyderabad

Achievements of first year students at Birla Institute of Technology Team METANOIA - First Year Engineering participated in the Three-Day Annual Techo-Management Fest (ATOMS) organized by Birla Institute of Technology & Science Pilani- Hyderabad, a technical and science institute for higher education in India, located in Hyderabad, Telangana.

Twelve students viz., K Abhishek Nayak, Mahim Monterio, Sanjana Kini K, Dhanush R Adoor, Niriksha Devadiga, Soumya B Gouda, Kumari Komal Sharma, Vaishnavi Rao, Sai Varsha, Shravya Shetty, Mohammad Rafhan and Abdulla Rifad participated in this Fest. The events organized were Law Follower, Bomb squad and Paper presentation.

Having achieved 5th place in the event ‘Law Follower’, the students gained entry into Finals in the event ‘Paper Presentation’.

The theme of the summit this year was Digital Transformation 2.0: Data and KM. Shri Priyank Kharge, Honourable Minister for IT, BT, Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka delivered the Theme Address. Dr. Ganesh Natarajan, Chairman, CII KM Summit and Chairman, 5F World delivered the Inaugural Address and Mr. Eric Hunter, Director of Knowledge, Technology & Innovation Strategies, Bradford & Barthel, LLP & Spherical Models delivered the Keynote Address. Indian Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) 2017 were awarded on the occasion. The Day-long Summit had five panel discussions: The CEOs Panel comprised of Ms. Prasanna Nair, Associate Partner, IBM Global Business Services, Mr. Dilip Jose, MD & CEO, Manipal Hospitals, Mr. Sunil Nair, CTO, Spar India- Landmark and Mr. Raja Ukil. It was chaired and moderated by Dr. Ganesh Natarajan. The panel shared and discussed about digitally transformed organizations, different technologies and their profound impact on industry, where business models are being disrupted. The other panel discussions were on Customer Knowledge: to serve them better, Knowledge Forces Reshaping Logistics and Supply Chains, Revitalizing Learning & Skilling, and Best Practices sharing by the MAKE award winners. The Summit was well attended by Knowledge Management practitioners, CEOs, CKOs, KM managers and academicians.

Sahyadri conducts‘Workshop on Self-defense for Women’ on the occasion of International Women’s Day

Workshop on Self-defense for Women With the cases of crimes against women on the rise, self-defense for women has become a necessity more than ever.

With a view to help a woman to be better prepared to protect herself, a ‘Workshop on Self-defense for Women' was conducted. The initiative was taken by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering and AEnCESStudents Association. And what better occasion than the International Women's Day itself!!

Ms. SameekshaShetty, student of ECE second year was the resource person of the day. Students from ECE Department Ms. SushmaShettywho represented VTU National Cross Country twice and Ms. Ankitha NSS Best Volunteer Award were introduced and appreciated during the occasion. They were also asked to address the gathering. The HoD – Department of ECE addressed the women faculties.

The session began with a couple of warm up exercises. Ms.Sameeksha then introduced the techniques for self-defense. The students paired with each other and practiced the same with great enthusiasm. The techniques included few punching movements etc.

Campus Recruitment Drive - Refer Me Ashwitha Crasta, from the Department of Information Science & Engineering was selected by Dell EMC for the post of Software Quality Engineer. The package offered is 6.5 Lakhs per annumn. MsCrasta was a student of 2017 passed out engineering batch.

Varun K, an MBA Student invited to conduct Career Guidance session Varun K, second year MBA student was invited to facilitate a Career Guidance session at Govt. First Grade College, Bettampady. Varun addressed the students and gave inputs on how to pass Aptitude and GD Round of interview. Mock GD Session & Face to Face Interview was conducted. Students were guided on drafting their CV. Students were given materials and also directed to certain Apps & Sites to practice Aptitude Test. Varun K is one of the two students who has been selected to pursue a Five-Day Graduate Summer School at IIM Ahmedabad in April this year.

Sahyadrian wins 1st prize in Classical Solo Singing at NITK Suratkal Priyanka KP, a student of fourth year Computer Science Engineering has won 1st prize in Classical Solo Singing (Raagalaya) at INCIDENT 2018 organized by National Institute of technology (NITK) Suratkal. She is also a National scholarship holder and has also completed her Vidwath exam. She is a B Grade Artist in AIR and has been awarded many titles by organizations.
