Innovision 2k17 was the annual technical-management-cultural fest organized by Students Activity Centre (SAC), Technical Society and the euphoric atmosphere reverberated with the slogan, “LEVEL UP”.

The National Institute of Technology, Sikkim commonly referred to as NIT Sikkim or NIT SKM is a public engineering institution near the city of Ravangla in Sikkim, India. The NIT has been declared as an Institute of National importance by the Government of India.

His first experience about the campus was that it was thoroughly enjoyable to visit the various departments. He had once visited the campus about 10 years ago during the inception of the college. He was amazed and spellbound at how the college has now grown in terms of technology and infrastructure over a span of 10 years. He was pretty impressed with the infrastructure. In his opinion the scale of infrastructure is unprecedented.

Dakshina-Kannada-SVEEP-(Systematic-Voters'-Education-and-Electoral-Participation)-committee-visits-Sahyadri The official of Dakshina Kannada SVEEP committee Dr. M R Ravi, IAS, Chairman – SVEEP; Mr. Sudhakar, District Adult Education Officer & SVEEP Nodal Officer and Mr. Babu Devadiga, Principal, Karnataka Polytechnic (KPT) College visited the campus and conducted Election Awareness Programme for First Year Engineering students. The programme was conducted with a view to create awareness among students regarding the importance of voting in a democratic country like India.

SVEEP is a programme of multi interventions through different modes and media designed to educate citizens, electors and voters about the electoral process in order to increase their awareness and participation in the electoral processes.

The programme started off with Mr. Sudhakar leading the students and the faculty through the voter’s pledge. He urged the students to take part in the democratic process by casting their vote and help build a stronger nation. Dr. M R Ravi speaking to the students, explained as to why it is important to vote and its role in holding the democratic essence. He explained the objective of SVEEP initiative and spoke about the different activities that are conducted to spread awareness about elections. He discussed the objectives of the SVEEP programmes, one being the accessibility at the polling station and the right of every voter’s. He shared his 24 years of experience working as election observer and superintendent.

Further, Dr. Ravi explained about the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and the new option NoTA (None of The Above) for the voters to be used when they are not happy with the candidates contesting for the election. He emphasized on the government’s programme for massive early preparedness by the public for the election through SVEEP awareness programmes. He requested the college to establish Electoral Literacy Club with students as its members and also to nominate students as Campus Ambassador to spread the awareness about the importance of participating in fair elections.

The Principal Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, gave the presidential remarks and urged the students to actively participate in the process of strengthening democracy and building good governance.

Mr. Suresh Angadi is a member of the 16th Lok Sabha from Belagavi. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi addressed 350 students of Mechanical Engineering on "LIVING ENGINEERING'. Dr. Ashok M Hulagabali, Professor and HOD and also an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur coordinated the Workshop.

Prof. Girish Madla enlightened the students on the various career opportunities available to the graduates after their graduation. He also highlighted as to how selecting a right career path suitable to their personality is very important to make a better career.

Prof. Prajwala Rodrigues talked about the tools which a candidate needs to adapt for a corporate entry. She emphasised on how a candidate should groom themselves to venture into the competitive corporate world. She conducted a resume building session wherein students were asked to prepare a resume on a particular role.

Group Discussion topics were decided by Varun K, Shivani Rai, Apoorva and Pooja of 2nd year MBA, Dept. of Business Administration. Prof. Girish Madla highlighted the mistakes normally done by students in Group Discussion and then gave inputs on how it could be corrected.

Varun K, Shivani Rai, Apoorva and Pooja of 2nd year MBA, Dept. of Business Administration, were the panellists for the mock interview. The panellists had given a role of the accountant for the students and had asked to prepare a resume before the mock interview began. Mock interview demo was conducted on Ms. Fazeelat Banu, Final year B.Com, Besant Women’s College and Mr. Prasad, Final year B.A, Sharada College, Mangaluru.

The session was well appreciated by the students from various colleges.

TEAM CHALLENGERS participate in an event organized by Indian Institute of Science (IISc)

TEAM-CHALLENGERS-participate-in-an-event-organized-by-Indian-Institute-of-Science-(IISc) TEAM CHALLENGERS visits Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to participate in an event - “Open Day”. Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is a public university for research & higher education in science, engineering, design, and management.

The following members attended the event: Krupa & Sneha Vijay from 1st year, Pratheeksha & Ann V Mariya from 2nd year, Rakshith Karumbaiah, Pranamya A Y, & Rajmunni Hombal from 3rd year and Amrutha Kandhare as a Team mentor.

The team visited the Aerospace Engineering, UAV Department where there was exhibition on Trajectory Target, Deicing of Plane & Behavior of Water droplets on various materials. The team also visited the Civil Department where the exhibition on Bi-axle machine was held. They also visited the Rainwater Harvesting Plant. Modern technology towards traffic signals was displayed.

At the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE), there were
  • Projects displayed on uses of micron particles ranging from “mm to Angstrom number”
  • Application of sensors for detection of gases
  • Biological uses of nano particles like Testing of cheek cells, alignment of DNA [Inducing the drugs into the body]

  • At the Hypersonic and Supersonic Shockwaves wind Tunnel Laboratory the team had an exposure to:
    • Application of Shock waves and Mach number
    • Aircraft component wind tunnel testing using Reddy’s and similar tube.
    • Research on Structure of Mahogany Leaves
    • Production of Shock waves in Fighter jets
    • Research on Wound healing and needless injection using shock waves.
    Lastly, the team also visited National Nanofabrication Center [Clean room].

    Achievements of first year students at Birla Institute of Technology & Science Pilani- Hyderabad

    Achievements of first year students at Birla Institute of Technology Team METANOIA - First Year Engineering participated in the Three-Day Annual Techo-Management Fest (ATOMS) organized by Birla Institute of Technology & Science Pilani- Hyderabad, a technical and science institute for higher education in India, located in Hyderabad, Telangana.

    Twelve students viz., K Abhishek Nayak, Mahim Monterio, Sanjana Kini K, Dhanush R Adoor, Niriksha Devadiga, Soumya B Gouda, Kumari Komal Sharma, Vaishnavi Rao, Sai Varsha, Shravya Shetty, Mohammad Rafhan and Abdulla Rifad participated in this Fest. The events organized were Law Follower, Bomb squad and Paper presentation.

    Having achieved 5th place in the event ‘Law Follower’, the students gained entry into Finals in the event ‘Paper Presentation’.

NIT Goa presented SAAVYAS 2018, the first edition of the annual techno-cultural fest. Team Captivatars, a 15 member team of students from first year engineering participated in the Three-Day fest in events such as Line Follower, Robo Soccer & Robo Race and won 3rd position in Robo Race.

    Interaction-with-the-UG-Faculty-Team-during-Sahyadri-Whiz-Quiz-2018 Faculty of under-graduate colleges who participated in Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2018 were addressed by the Principal, Dr. Umesh M Bhushi and the Director-MBA, Dr. Vishal Samartha. Dr. Bhushi appreciated the faculty for their support during the Sahyadri Whiz Quiz process as they played a key role in its success. He said the UG faculty members have been rendering ongoing support to Sahyadri in all its student-centric initiatives and invited them to utilize the infrastructure and the expertise of Sahyadri in their personal development as well as student development of their respective colleges.

    Dr. Vishal Samartha highlighted that our students are participating and winning in IIM’s and IIT’s who were once groomed by the UG faculty and now mentored by the Sahyadri team. Achievements of students are the result of the contributions of their faculty at both UG and PG level.

    Prof. Sushma V, while addressing the faculty, informed of the Two-Day PGCET Training at Sahyadri for MBA aspirants to be held in the month of June this year as a part of the Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) of Sahyadri.

One of the managing partners of the firm – Mr. Darshan Jain addressed the students and shared stories of his failure as well as success. He encouraged students to master the art of marketing as it equips an individual to survive in any situation, place or time. He shared anecdotes of his life that motivated students to aim high and work smartly towards the goal. He said - one should pursue entrepreneurship only after gaining corporate experience of minimum one year which fine tunes you as an entrepreneur. He was delighted to see the interest in students to lead an independent life and sponsor their education on their own. Hence he made an offer to the students to work on a part-time basis in the marketing domain of his organization. He laid emphasis on networking through social media, building contacts, sharing information and generating leads. He offered to personally mentor the students along with Mr. Kannan Nair, Business Development Manager of ACE Promoters & Developers. ACE has invited students for their upcoming project site visit so as to get in-depth understanding of how a real estate firm works.

Resource Persons from IIT-Bombay, KLE Technological University, Hubli & SDMIT, Ujire emphasized on the use of free and open source software and also threw light on licensing issues and alternate free softwares for various expensive software. The workshop focussed on creating awareness about the available Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) & Spoken-tutorial.org which is sponsored by MHRD, Government of India. Students can register for various online courses which are available in different languages at free of cost. Students can also undergo online test for certification. The objective of the workshop was to provide awareness on utilization of these valuable and free resources for the benefit of student community.

He explained the various methods of manufacturing steels and also discussed about the challenges facing the steel industry. Further, he shared his experiences and advised the students to groom themselves to meet the needs of the industries. He emphasized on harnessing of soft skills which are pertinent to climb the corporate ladder. He also recalled his days at Sahyadri and gave inputs on how to excel in various competitive exams. He encouraged students to actively participate in value added courses introduced by the institution for the overall development of the students which will help them to excel in the world outside.

    Dear Students and staff, over the next few months there will be uneven and fluctuating weather conditions, with the fall in atmospheric pressure and sudden variation in humidity that can affect the health of every individual. Therefore, all are advised to consume adequate fluids and have a spice and oil free diet with lot of fibre. Avoid salty food and street food to the maximum. Keep your skin moisturized and prefer to cold showers rather than hot water baths. Since the chances of contact infections are high due to excessive sweat, it is advisable to add Dettol solution to the bath water for bathing.
