Dr. Sudhir Kumar Mishra, CEO & MD, BrahMos Aerospace, Distinguished Scientist & Director, (BrahMos), DRDO visits Sahyadri Dr. Sudhir Kumar Mishra, CEO & MD, BrahMos Aerospace, Distinguished Scientist & Director, (BrahMos), DRDO visited Sahyadri. At first, he expressed his curiosity to visit and view the innovative labs, the in-house start-ups and the student-centric initiatives of Sahyadri as he was already given a heads up by one of the esteemed Guests of Sahyadri Conclave held early this year. Post this; he had an intellectual session with the students and staff on his interactions with Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. At the beginning of his talk, he made a remark that he was astonished to visit one of the innovation centres in Mumbai, however Sahyadri has surpassed his idea of an innovation centre. He added that Sahyadri teaches - “What an actual Innovation Centre is”.

He then shared anecdotes of his interactions with the great Missile Man - Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. He recalled how blessed he was to work in the team of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam and mentioned that he would have been an inferior human being if haven’t met him. He recalled the ideologies of the legend and highlighted that only education does not make you Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. You should be a thinking person and Sahyadri is creating such an ambience for the youngsters to be innovators. He re-iterated to students that proven path cannot take us anywhere hence we need newer path for excellence. Finally, he concluded stating that today’s generation is inspirational, however should be shaped and fine tuned to bring out effective contributions from them for the nation.

Technical Talk during Engineer’s WeekTechnical Talk during Engineer’s Week On the occasion of the Engineer’s Week, Sahyadri Pupils Association of Civil Engineering (SPACE), Department of Civil Engineering, in collaboration with the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers organized a technical talk on “Compressing Time-Ways and Means” by Er. Arun Prabha and another on “Concrete Technology - Evolution to Revolution” by Er. Anil Baliga.

Er. Arun Pabha in his talk emphasised mainly on “Time”. Time is the single factor available for an engineer. He has 35 years of experience in construction industry, from which he shares that - the cost overruns in various projects is due to lot of time spent on in-situ construction and, if this factor is properly planned and executed then it will definitely avoid cost overrun. He also threw light on “Sequential Vs Parallel Techniques in Construction”. He concluded his talk with a key note that “Quality is about Managing Expectations”.

Er. Anil Baliga in his technical talk emphasised on importance of civil engineers for a developing country like India. Civil engineers are the makers and also the rulers. As a civil engineer it is our duty to respect our mother earth and try to lead a sustainable construction industry.

Special Awareness Programme on Health and Fitness exclusively for Women at Sahyadri

Special Awareness Programme on Health Department of Academics and NSS unit of Sahyadri organized a special programme for all the female teaching and non-teaching staff on Health and Fitness. Dr. Anasuya Devi, Chief Medical Practitioner at Dattam Ayurdham was invited as the resource person to address and interact with the audience. The Doctor shared valuable tips about healthy food habits and fitness. Before concluding a Q&A session was arranged so that the participants could clear their doubts relating to health and hygiene, reproductive health and daily food habits. The session was interactive & valuable information was shared with respect to general health issues, different types of disorders/ disease, the reasons behind such occurrence & the remedial measures.

In his session, he mentioned that a dream is not what you get when you sleep, but that which doesn’t let you sleep. He also highlighted about Individual Excellence which is not just being effective but being efficient. He further spoke about Masterly Retreat which meant that Happiness is not achieved by fights, arguments, challenging others and winning arguments but by challenging ourselves to be a better person. The session was well appreciated by students and staff. Mr. P V Vaidyanathan holds Bachelors’ Degree in Engineering from Guindy Engineering College, Chennai, M.Phil in Public Administration from Indian Institute of Public Administration, Delhi and Advanced Diploma in French, highest level offered by Alliance Francaise in India. He belongs to the 1965 batch of Indian Telecom Service.

It is the sole, exclusive representative for conducting the Japanese Language Test – “J-cert - Life and Business Style Japanese Language Test” for the whole of India.

MBA team conducts Employment Training Programme at Vivekananda Degree College The faculty and students of Dept. of Business Administration were invited by the Placement & Training Cell and Dept. of Commerce and Management of Vivekananda Degree College, Puttur to conduct a Half-Day Employment Training programme for their final year B.Com and BBM students. Prof. Prajwala Preema Rodrigues & Mr. Ankith S Kumar along with MBA students facilitated the training programme on Resume Writing, Group Discussion and Interview skills for a total of 220 final year Commerce and Management students. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Peter Wilson Prabhakar, Principal and Prof. Venkataramana Bhat, HoD of Commerce and Business Management, Vivekananda College. The training programme was well received and appreciated by both, the faculty and students of Vivekananda College, Puttur.

Mr. Sachindra, Executive Director Perfect Alloy Components Pvt. Ltd. (PAC) is the largest Indian manufacturer of valve seat inserts and turbo charger parts for IC engines. Mr. Sachindra, the Executive Director of this company visited Sahyadri and interacted with the Management & Staff.

Mr. Sachindra expressed his pleasure saying how much he enjoyed his visit. His first experience while on the rounds of the entire campus was that the infrastructure was unique. He was impressed at how well the classrooms, labs, auditoriums and various other departments were structured and equipped.

MBAs participate in Citizens’ Quiz MBAs participate in Citizens’ Quiz Department of Business Administration and NSS Unit of Sahyadri conducted an awareness programme for the MBA students on the Indian Polity, election process and voting rights of the citizens. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal addressed the students and emphasized on the importance of people’s participation in elections and urged the students to develop right attitude towards elections. He emphasized that the system will fail to choose the right candidate when people avoid the responsibility of casting their votes. Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counselor conducted “Citizens’ Quiz -2018” in order to check the level of awareness among students about Indian Polity, Election Process and Voting Rights. Students participated with great zeal, and doubts pertaining to the voting rights and election process were cleared. They were encouraged to take part in the forthcoming elections and were also asked to stimulate their family & friends to use their power of voting. This programme was organized as a support for the Government’s SVEEP initiative.

Training Programme at RIMSE, Mysuru – Day One The training programme for the third batch of faculty team was inaugurated at RIMSE, Mysuru. The programme was chaired by Sri Maheshatmananda Swamyji, Prof. Mahesh Davangere, HoD, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Ms. Shreelatha, AAO & Coordinator of the training programme. In his address, Swamyji welcomed all the participants and conveyed his thoughts as to how the teachers need to introspect so as to contribute better to the overall development of their students. Altogether 37 faculty members are participating in the Three-Day Training Programme.

MBA student won the Top Performer award for Sales Performance during internship at iDisha Info Labs Pvt Ltd., Bengaluru

Rohan Ail, 2nd year MBA – Marketing student has been awarded the Top-Performer award in February 2018 for his Sales Performance during his internship of two months at iDisha Info Labs Pvt Ltd, Marathahalli, Bengaluru. iDisha Info Labs Pvt Ltd. facilitates Quick Ride Application that operated in cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kochi, Pune and Kolkata. Quick Ride is a mobile based application which provides carpooling and bikepooling exclusively for the corporate professionals. As an intern, Rohan was assigned a task of visiting various IT Companies like Cisco, Oracle, J.P Morgan, IBM, Wipro, VMware, Ansrsource and so on. He was also given a per day target which he achieved beyond expectation during his internship period. As compared to all the cities around India and also comparing with the entire Quick Ride's team, he succeeded to meet the targets and hence was given the top performer award for the February month.

Techspardha is the annual techno-managerial festival of National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra held every year during spring.

Manjappa, Director R&D has been nominated as the member of advisory committee constituted by Karnataka Pollution Board, Bengaluru to evaluate and certify Industries for the Pollution Load and to provide certification for Modernization, Diversification, and Product Mix etc in the State of Karnataka. The workshop was conducted on the theme of “Socio-Political Consciousness among Youth”. MBA Faculty attend Management Conclave in Bengaluru Dr. Vishal Samartha, Prof. Ramesh K G and Prof. Girish M from the Department of Business Administration attended the Management Conclave on “Fostering Quality Teaching in Higher Education” conducted by Karnataka Private Post Graduate Colleges Association (KPPGCA) at Taj West End, Bengaluru. The Management Conclave created a platform for MBA, PGDM and MCA educators and decision makers at B-schools and universities that bring the best minds from India and abroad to discuss the issues faced by these colleges and also about opportunity areas to improve, enhance and collaborate.

He said that he had worked with AICTE and NHRD to build a model curriculum for the MBA’s. Dr. Akhilesh, Senior Professor, IISC, Bengaluru said that Knowledge and Skills are what is to be acquired but action in order to acquire those is very important. Dr. T. G. Sitharam, Chairman, South Western Regional Committee, AICTE, spoke about the reforms AICTE is bringing into the education system. The Conclave was attended by the Directors, Principals, HOD’s and faculty members from different parts of Karnataka.
