Dr. S Seetharamu selected as AICTE-INAE Distinguished Visiting Professor for Sahyadri

Dr. S Seetharamu selected as AICTE-INAE Distinguished Visiting Professor for Sahyadri Dr. S Seetharamu, currently Technical Advisor for National Design Research Forum and Formerly Director of Central Power Research Institute-Bangalore, has been selected as AICTE-INAE Distinguished Visiting Professor for Sahyadri, under the subject scheme, for a period of one year starting from Jun 1, 2019 up to May 31, 2020 which is extendable up to 5 years as industry expert. The grant proposal was initiated from Department of Mechanical Engineering by Dr. Rathishchandra R Gatti.

• Dr. S. Seetharamu received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Science in 1982 after obtaining M.E. in Mechanical Engineering from IISc in 1976 and B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Bangalore University in 1974.
• Dr. S. Seetharamu joined CPRI in 1985 after serving in L&T and Best and Crompton Engg, retired as Director of CPRI in June 2015.
• He has also served as a Faculty at Toyohashi University of Technology, Japan.
• Dr. S. Seetharamu is a leading Scientist of Central Power Research Institute, which is contributing towards the development of Electrical Industry in India.
• Last four decades of applied R&D has resulted in the building of laboratories and field Engineering schemes (materials technology, thermal research and energy), sponsored research and consultancy programs, peer reviewed publications, spread of education, conduct of International conferences, custom specific training programs, IPR, technology evolution involving scaling up, demonstration, quality assurance and industry-acceptance.
• These moves have also resulted in a large no of undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral projects, benefitting the students from CPRI, IISc, Bangalore University, IITs, NITs and VTU.
• He is also a Chartered Engineer, has received many awards and holder of many patents & member of professional bodies.
• Recently, Dr. S Seetharamu was involved as the advisor for the Indo-Danish DST-IFD proposal on Ocean wave energy converters that was recently presented at DST office by Principal Investigator Dr. Rathishchandra R Gatti and Director Research Dr. S Manjappa.
• He is currently involved with CPRI research proposals with the mechanical engineering team.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Institute as whole welcomes Dr. Seetharamu to share his expertise, knowledge and experience. The department is planning to organize technical talks and other related activities especially to benefit the students and faculty of the institute and neighboring colleges of Mangalore-Udupi region.

Grand Finale of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2019

Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2019  Dept. of Business Administration-MBA organized “Sahyadri Whiz-Quiz 2019', a quiz competition for undergraduates in the Sahyadri Campus. Around 9,000 students participated in the college level quiz, out of which 950 students from selected 48 colleges in the district of Mangalore, Udupi, Kodagu, Karwar, Belgaum, Shimoga, Hassan, Chikmagalur and Kasargod were at the campus for the Grand Finale of the 5th edition of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz.

Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2019 Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2019  Mrs. Iris Kunder Maben, an IT and Horticulturist from Mumbai along with Ms. Kavya Gatty, a Senior Officer-Recruitment at TESCO, Bengaluru who is also an alumna of Sahyadri MBA graced the event as Chief Guest & Guest of Honour respectively marking the importance of International Women’s Day.

Prof. Girish M, Chief Coordinator of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2019 welcomed the gathering. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA introduced Sahyadri and the Dept. of Business Administration to the gathering. She also gave the bird’s eye view of the flagship event Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2019.

During the inaugural address, Mrs. Iris Kunder Maben spoke about women empowerment and urged each one to never compromise on their dreams and expectations and aim to be financially independent. She shared her journey of life and hoped that it would inspire the young minds.

Ms. Kavya Gatty, spoke about her life at Sahyadri and how the challenges and hard work during her two years of study shaped her future. She further urged students to take up opportunities that come their way to showcase their talent. To talk about women empowerment, she highlighted the journey of Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA who was her mentor. Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal in his Presidential address conveyed that Sahyadri Whiz Quiz is one of the forums to develop their knowledge and skills and should capitalize the opportunity available to them.

Prof. Ramesh K G, coordinator of the event gave away the vote of thanks. Mr. Reese Mathews, Chief Manager, Canara Bank, Bendoorwell, Mangaluru was the Quiz Master. Immediately after the formal function, the first preliminary round was held. Out of 315 teams of 3 each, 150 teams qualified to the second preliminary round. Finally 6 teams were selected for the Grand Finale.

Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2019  Mr. Jayaraj Rai, Chairman, Shri Ramakrishna Credit Co-operative Society and Ms. Vidya Shenoy, Head-Talent Acquisition, Manipal Technologies Ltd felicitated the winners during the Valedictory Ceremony. Mahesh College of Commerce & Management, Mangaluru won 1st prize with a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 25,000, Dept. Of Commerce, Manipal won 2nd place with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000, SDM Ujire won 3rd place with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.

Arena 2019, Annual Sahyadri Sports Meet Arena 2019, Annual Sahyadri Sports Meet Arena 2019 began with the inaugural ceremony in the presence of the Chief Guest - Mr. Ashton Wikin Coelho, National Athlete and an Alumnus of BE (Batch 2009-13); Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal; Mr. Balakrishna S S, Vice-Principal; Mr. Sadananda H S, Director of Sports; Ms. Nitisha Rodrigues & Mr. KarnaKumar K S, the Physical Directors, the HODs and the staff & students. At first, Sahyadrians marched forward in glory representing unity & discipline in a spirit of sportsmanship through March Past. During the inauguration, Ms. Gowri Ganesh, the Sports Secretary introduced the Teams of March Past to the Chief Guest. The programme then included Hoisting of the Flag that signifies the dignity & Integrity of athletes and unites all as a team. Later, the Chief Guest raised the Torch, bearing the light. Mr. Sashwath MR, National Athlete led the team through the oath. Moving on, the VTU Blues – Students who represented VTU in All India Level were honoured.

Mr. Ashton has completed his higher studies in Advanced Construction at National Institute of Construction Management and Research. He now works as Road Safety Contracting Expert & a Road Safety Consultant for Public Works Department and National Highways of Mangalore Division. He is an entrepreneur and founder of Cliwilton Road Safety Inter-ventures. During his inaugural address, he encouraged students to utilize their talent and make use of every opportunity they get. He recalled his good old days at Sahyadri Campus and stimulated students to have fun, be smart and work hard. He made a special mention of Dr. D L Prabhakara, Director-Sahyadri Educational Institutions for all that he did for the institution. He owed his achievements of 13 medals in sports to the Chairman – Mr. Manjunath Bhandary for his perpetual support.


Arena 2019, Annual Sahyadri Sports Meet Arena 2019, Annual Sahyadri Sports Meet Ms. Sushma from the Eighth Semester Electronics & Communication Engineering received a special recognition from the Chief Guest for winning 14 Medals during her course of study at Sahyadri. Mr. Ashton has also announced Rs 15,000 cash prize for the one who secures 13 medals and more by the end of their course at Sahyadri.

Sahyadri organizes one day Faculty Development Workshop on Mentoring Skills  Sahyadri organizes one day Faculty Development Workshop on Mentoring Skills  A one day Faculty Development Workshop titled “Understanding the Millennial, Where do we start?” was organised for teaching faculty with a view to equip the faculty with better mentoring skills so as to enable them to have better connect with students. The resource persons for the workshop are two influential icons in the field of psychology; Dr. Rameela Shekhar and Dr P.V. Bhandary.

Dr. Rameela Shekhar is a Mental Health Professional and Trainer at Manashanthi Counselling, Research & Training Centre. She is the Dean (Retd.), from School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya. Mangaluru. Dr P.V. Bhandary is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Director in A.V. Baliga Hospital, Udupi.

Dr Rameela Shekhar explained the various destructive behaviors that are commonly seen in the teenager and the various internal and external environment factors responsible for it. She also helped our faculty understand the milennials better and how as a teacher, one can approach the students and help them out. Dr P.V. Bhandary explained about the various psychological problems that students face. He explained the factors contributing to the problems and also helped understand the reasons for suicidal tendencies and debunked the many myths about suicide.

The workshop provided the much needed clarity about understanding the millennial.

On completing Group Discussion Round, Aptitude Round and Personal Interview, a total of 7 students have been shortlisted for the Final Round of interview with the Regional Manager Operations & HR scheduled during the next week.

TCS Techbytes organized at Sahyadri

Reliance Digital for MBAs Reliance Digital for MBAs TCS Techbytes, a Regional level IT Quiz Prelims and final was held at Sahyadri. A total of 20 Colleges from Mangaluru, Chikkamagaluru and Hassan with around 394 students took part in the event. Top 6 Teams were shortlisted for the final round out of which NITK Surathkal comprising of Hrishikesh Thakkar and Pratyush Prakash secured the First Place and Rajath Ballal and Shobith J B From KVG College of Engineering Sullia were the Runners-up. The event happened in the presence of Ms. Shoba Murthy, TCS coordinator; Mr. Loyd Saldhana, the Quiz Master; Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal; Prof. S S Balakrishna, Vice-Principal; Dr. J V Gorabal, Head of Computer Science & Engineering Dept and Prof. Shailesh Shetty, TCS Sahyadri coordinator.

Alumni interaction with students of Information Science & Engineering Alumni interaction with students of Information Science & Engineering Ms. Ushakiran and Ms. Deeksha Rai, Alumni of Dept. of Information Science and Engineering had addressed the students of sixth semester and fourth semester respectively about how they got placed at IBM and also about their work experience in IBM. They gave an insight about the latest trends and technologies and emphasized on the need to be updated about these trends. They re-iterated the importance of having a job offer while in campus.

Civil Engineering students on a site visit  Students in the Fourth Semester of Civil Engineering visited Ready Mix Concrete Plant, PRISM RMC located in Baikampady Industrial Area, Mangaluru. PRISM RMC is one of the bulk manufacturers of Ready Mix concrete in Mangaluru. Mr. Chethan L. Pujara, Manager of Prism RMC addressed the students regarding the various aspects involved in RMC. Mr. Shivaprasad, Quality Control Engineer, accompanied the students and faculties, and explained about the know-how of RMC. Students were also taken around the plant and the laboratories and the different test on fresh and hardened state of concrete conducted were explained.

Prof. Hemanth Prabhu, Prof. Geetha S.D. and Prof. Deepthishree S.A. from the Department of Civil Engineering coordinated the visit.

Sahyadrians win IGNUS’19 Runners-up Trophy at IIT Jodhpur

Sahyadrians win IGNUS’19 Runners-up Trophy at IIT Jodhpur A total of 15 students from Engineering K section, under the mentorship of Mr. Hrithvik Patel and Ms. Bindya Rao, participated in IGNUS’19 organized by IIT Jodhpur.
The team won prizes in the following events:
• 2nd and 4th place in Robo Soccer
• 2nd place in Balsa Glider
• 3rd place in Line Follower
• 4th place in Light Follower
• 4th place in RF bot race
With the above mentioned achievements during the event, Sahyadri won the Runners-up trophy.

Team Challengers International Competition updates

Team Challengers International Competition updates Team Challengers of Sahyadri are participating in the international level competition named "SAE International Aeromodelling 2019". This is a 3-day event held in the city of Fort Worth, North Central Texas.

Students from the First Year, Ashritha Rai, Joel Joseph, Blaren D’Silva, Basil Baiju and from the Second Year, Shahid Hussain are the participants in this prestigious event. This is the finest aeromodelling event of the year.
Mr. Manjunatha Bhandary, Chairman, who is on a visit, accompanied the students to this event.

IoT & Embedded System Exhibition at Sahyadri

IoT & Embedded System Exhibition at Sahyadri As a part of Industry and Academic Interaction, a One-day exhibition on IoT & Embedded Systems was jointly conducted by Department of Electronics & Communication and RDL Technologies Pvt. Ltd. The exhibition witnessed the active participation of more than 30+ batches of pre-final year engineering students. The students demonstrated the products at the exhibition. The first year students utilized their time in knowing the technical details and understanding the various applications of IoT and Embedded Systems in real life. The three segments of products displayed at the event were Industrial Sensors, Development and Prototyping.

Motive of the exhibition was to create awareness among students about recent ongoing research, issues and challenges faced by industry and solutions for the same. Third Year students familiarized themselves with the various industrial products and solutions along with the driving technology to further transfer the knowledge gained by them to the next generation of students. The students were motivated to involve in industry-academic research activities. This would help bring out budding entrepreneurial talents to the foreground during their next three years of engineering. More than 700 students participated in the event. RDL Technologies made full-fledged arrangement by providing their sensors, development boards, and products.

The event was coordinated by the faculty members of Department of Electronics & Communication.

MBAs attended ‘Knowledge Factory 2019’ at The Taj West End, Bengaluru Prof. Girish M along with students of the Dept. of Business Administration-MBA participated in the 3rd edition of Knowledge Factory 2019, curated by senior journalist Mr. Madhavan Narayanan with partners Niiti Consulting and the Promise Foundation at The Taj West End, Bengaluru. It was a day-long convention of stimulating talks, panel discussions with a quiz and musical interludes thrown in. It was one of kind conference which had speakers from different facets of life including Former Member of the Planning Commission of Government of India, Actor, Member of the Parliament, Authors, Singer and Music Historian and reputed Psychologists who have made a mark in their fields.

Orientation Session by Byju's for the Engineering Students Mr. Saikiran, Co-Founder of BYJU's (Think & Learn Pvt Ltd.) visited Sahyadri to address and interact with the sixth semester (3rd year) students of all branches. This session helped the students to understand various Career Avenues in India and Abroad and the rigorous selection criteria involved. It gave them insights into the relevant steps required to prepare for GRE/CAT/GMAT/UPSC/GATE and also on entering into the world of International Education.
The counselling team - Mr. Swaroop, Ms. Swathi Raj, Mr. Mohit and Mr. Souptik from Byju's conducted a follow up session for all the interested students.

Alumnus of Electronics & Communication Engineering interacts with the students Mr. Rajath Kumar Kodoth, an Alumnus of Dept. of Electronics and Communication Engineering (Passed out in 2017-18) shared his experience with the pre-final year students. He is currently working as an Associate Trainee in Data Science at AltraSys Technologies. As he liked Mathematics and was good at it, Rajath always preferred to get into a profile of a Data Scientist. While speaking to the students, he encouraged them on learning Python programming language since Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are booming these days. He said it was the best career option one should opt for. As a concluding remark, he asserted that students should maintain a good aggregate in engineering and also enjoy their college life.

Extensive Survey Camp for the pre final year Civil Engineering students Students of pre-final year accompanied by faculty of Civil Engineering Department carry out projects at Ishwaramangala, Puttur Taluk. GSB Premier League (GPL) at Sahyadri River-Side Cricket Stadium GSB Premier League 2019 (GPL), a floodlit Goud Saraswat Brahmin (GSB) over-arm cricket tournament was organized at Sahyadri River-Side Cricket Stadium. GSB Kundapura emerged as the champions and Irvathur Sports Manipal were the Runners-Up at the GPL 2019.

He registered his name as a donor in the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO). Sahyadri applauds his generous and heroic gesture.
