Ms. Pavithree B Shetty received 4 Gold Medals & the Certificate of First Rank for her Outstanding Academic achievement during the Annual convocation ceremony of Visvevaraya Technological University (VTU) held at “Jnana Sangama” Campus, Belagavi. Honourable Vice Chancellor of VTU Dr. Karisiddappa presented the prestigious Gold Medals Viz. “PESIT Gold Medal”, “R N Shetty Gold Medal”, “Jyothi Gold Medal”, “VTU Gold Medal” and the Certificate of First Rank. The Chief Guest of the function was Padmashri Dr. Girish Bharadwaj who is popularly known as Sethu Bandhu & Bridge Man of India for building around 127 low cost and eco-friendly bridges in remote villages across India.
Later, Pavithree interacted with the Vice Chancellor Dr. Karisiddappa who has congratulated her for this great achievement and praised Sahyadri for the overall support given to her for accomplishing this feat. Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Member of Academic Senate, VTU & Principal of Sahyadri; Prof. Sudheer Shetty, Dean Examinations; the proud Parents - Mr. Balakrishna Shetty & Mrs. Amitha B. Sahyadri organised workshop on Aspects of LTE-4G
Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organised a three day workshop on “Aspects of LTE-4G”. The TEQIP 1.3 sponsored workshop was organised in association with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) and RDL Pvt. Ltd.
The inaugural ceremony started with a formal ceremony in the presence of Dr. M.H. Kori, Technical Director (Retd.), Alcatel-Lucent Technologies; Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal; and Dr. Ashwath Rao, Head of the Department, Electronics & Communication Engineering. Faculty, students and participants from various colleges were also present.
Dr. Ashwath Rao welcomed the dignitaries. He gave a brief introduction about the three-day workshop with its schedule and contents to be imparted in the training.
In his address, Dr. M.H. Kori emphasized on the importance of learning new technologies and tools for faculty and the students. He gave an insight into the importance of wireless communication. He highlighted the history of Department of Telecommunication (DOT) and went on to say that availing telephone connection in India before BSNL existed was a tedious task. He shed some light on various statistics regarding the present mobile phone usage in India and worldwide. As per the survey done as recently as January 2019, over 120 Crores of telephone connections exist in India, out of which 110 crores are mobile users. He said that mobile manufacturing units were not a part of India till 2015 and only one or two indigenous companies manufacture mobile phones as of today.
Dr. Srinivasa Rao Kunte briefed us about the importance of this workshop which is believed to be the cutting edge in the telecommunication domain.

Sahyadri is in the process of signing an MOU with the Indian School of Communications & Reputation (SCoRe) and as a part of the MOU, a One-Day workshop has been planned for the HR and Marketing students in Oct this year to get a practical exposure to the PR concepts and thereby enhance the opportunities in Placements for the role of a PR.
First year students attend IoT Challenge competition at IIT Bombay
I3indya technologies (IIT Bombay) had conducted an IoT challenge competition at Sahyadri back in Feb’19 which included a Two-Day workshop. Four of the first year engineering students - Vrashank Rao M, M Vishwas Kamath, Vishnudas Nayak P and Vineeth Rai K had attended this workshop and were selected in Top 6 in Mangalore Zonal out of 30 teams which included teams from reputed institutions. They cleared all the rounds and got selected in the finals clearing the 4 tasks to be completed within the deadlines. In the finals held in IIT Bombay, they competed with top 50 teams of India and made place in the Top 20.

Prof. Sushma V along with 8 students from MBA-HR had an interview scheduled with Mr. Ben Subbarao, Head - HR & Training for the position of HR Business Partner at Grassroots BPO, Bengaluru. A total of 6 students have been issued a Job offer and Prof. Sushma V has been approved for an internship of 15-30 days in ‘People Operations’ at Grassroots BPO, Bengaluru during June’19.
Students & Faculty from GFGC, Shankarnarayana, Kundapur on an Industry visit at Sahyadri
Department of Business Administration organized an Industry visit for students from Govt. First Grade College, Shankarnarayana, Kundapur at Sahyadri. A total of 48 students along with faculty members - Mr. Girish and Mr. Yathiraj were at the campus for the visit of the in-house Start-Ups and industries at Sahyadri. They also went through the Hands-On Training in Typing Skills facilitated by Chirag Bangera, the student of 2nd Year MBA-HR under the guidance of Prof. Prajwala Rodrigues. Next, Prof. Girish M addressed the students and gave them a brief background of the nature of start-ups and industries that Sahyadri houses. Later, students were taken around the campus to visit the industries and have an interaction with the industry heads.

Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering in association with NITK-Surathkal conducted a workshop on Virtual Labs
Virtual Labs is an initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development under the National Mission on Education through ICT. A team of ten members from NITK facilitated the sessions. Virtual Labs provide remote-access to Labs in various disciplines of Science and Engineering. These have collaboration with 12 institutions all over India which includes IIT’s, NIT’s & IIIT’s. The broad areas of Virtual Labs are Electronics & Communications, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and so on. The sessions at Sahyadri were conducted for the second & third year students of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science Engineering & Information Science Engineering.
Students got an insight into the experiments available in the Virtual labs under various broad areas. Students also got a hands-on experience on simulation, calculations and experiments available. Students of Electronics & Communication Engineering analyzed the characteristics of digital logic families, learnt sampling theorems, convolution of signals, Ohm’s law, full wave rectification, characteristics of RC, RL RLC networks. Computer Science Engineering & Information Science Engineering students conducted experiments based on Karnaugh maps, combinational circuits, programming languages, computer organization etc.

Technical Talk on ‘Water Treatment practices using Ultra and Micro filtration’ by the Dept. of Civil Engineering
Department of Civil Engineering in association with SPACE conducted a technical talk on ‘Water Treatment practice using Ultra and Microfiltration’. The resource person of the talk was Mr. Chidanand Bhargav Bharadwaj, Senior Engineer, Process Engineering and Environment, JBF Petrochemicals Ltd., Mangaluru SEZ, Karnataka. In his talk, he highlighted the basic concepts of water treatment and discussed the technical aspects related to membrane filtration. The students of Pre-final year Civil Engineering were a part of this event.
Mechanical Engineering students on an Industrial visit
The students of Third year Mechanical Engineering visited various industries with an objective of gaining industrial exposure. The students visited Trident Hydro solutions and Omkar industries in Belagavi on the first leg of the industrial tour. Further, they also visited Astra metal Pvt Ltd, Goa. The students were accompanied by Prof. Pavithra Ajagol and Prof. Dennis Pinto. During the visit, the students got a first-hand experience of various cutting edge facilities and gained insights in the field of manufacturing. Interaction with the engineers also gave an opportunity to discuss about the impact of automation and various challenges faced in manufacturing units. Students explored the possible internship opportunities in the field of manufacturing.
‘RangHoli-2019’ in Sahyadri Campus
The Student Council under the guidance and support of the college management organized the annual Holi celebration, ‘RangHoli-2019’ in the campus. The celebration was filled with fun, colours, laughter and dance. Colours and refreshments were served to the students participating in the event. A team from MBA department and the student council heads helped in the smooth functioning of the event.

Dept. of Civil Engineering in association with Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KPCB) celebrates World Water Day. Dr. S Manjappa, Director of Research, introduced the theme of this year's World water day "Leaving No One Behind". The chief guest of the day was Dr. Lakshman Nandagiri, Department of Applied Mechanics and Hydraulics, NITK, Suratkal. In his address, he stressed upon the need for saving water. He also outlined the present water scenario and the need to conserve it for the future generations. He also spoke about the impact of climate change due to anthropogenic activities. Dr. Amba Shetty, Professor & Head, Dept of Applied Mechanics and Hydraulics, NITK, Suratkal, was the resource person. She spoke about the application of RS and GIS in water resource management. Dr. Basavaraju Manu, Associate Professor, Dept of Civil Engineering, NITK, Suratkal spoke about the role of coastal reservoirs and the advantages of the same. He also explained about the Wastewater Treatment Techniques.
Sri. Rakshekhar Puranik, Senior Environment Officer, KSPCB, Mangaluru and S.S. Balakrishna, Vice President were also present.
The theme for World Water Day 2019 is ‘Leaving no one behind’. This is an adaptation of the central promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. As sustainable development progresses, everyone must benefit.

ECE student successfully completes internship in National Design and Research Forum (NDRF)
Ms. Nishal Nivya Rodrigues, student of final year Electronics and Communication Engineering has successfully completed her internship in National Design and Research Forum (NDRF) on “Generating Cognitive Event-Related Potentials (ERPS) Stimuli Using Psychopy – An Open-Source Stimulus Program” under the guidance of Dr. Mahesh Jayachandra M.D., Ph.D. Head, Bio-Engineering Group, NDRF, Bengaluru. Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal and Prof. Balakrishna S S, Vice-Principal were the guests of the Valedictory Ceremony and the prizes were distributed by them. A total of 19 colleges participated in this Tournament.
Dr. B K Keshavan from PES University visited the campus
Dr. B K Keshavan is a Dean of Academics & Evaluation at PES University. He is a Ph. D from IIT Bombay in “Power System Reliability” and has 36 years of teaching experience. He is currently guiding 4 research scholars and 4 have already been awarded their Ph.D under his guidance. He was awarded the “Centre of Excellence in High Voltage & Power System” from Vision Group on Science and Technology, Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of Karnataka and received a grant of Rs. 60 Lakhs.

Technical Session on Virtual Labs by NITK faculty to the students of Civil Engineering
Dept. of Civil Engineering in association with SPACE conducted a technical session on Virtual Lab for the pre-final year students. The talk was conducted by research scholars of NITK, one among those was Ms. Aishwarya Shetty, an alumna of Sahyadri 2017 pass out batch. The session emphasized the use of virtual labs in helping the students in learning basic and advanced concepts through remote experimentation.
A virtual lab is an Initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource Development under the National Mission on Education through ICT. It provides remote-access to Labs in various disciplines of Science and Engineering. It also provides a complete Learning Management System around Virtual Labs where the students can avail the various tools for learning, including additional web-resources, video-lectures, animated demonstrations, and self-evaluation. Students of 2nd and pre-final year Civil Engineering were benefitted through the session.
Sahyadri Team at Finals of ‘Student Innovator Award’ organized by ICT Academy
ICT Academy is an initiative of the Government of India in collaboration with the state Governments and Industries. This organization had organized "Student Innovator Award", which was held at Alliance University Bengaluru. Team from Sahyadri was short listed among Top 10 for finals.
The Team includes Chethan Kumar for sixth semester Mechanical Enginering; Savin Kumar from sixth semester Civil Engineering and Basavarajeshwari Ambi from fourth semester Information Science & Engineering. They are presenting Project One-Touch [Travel on Fingertip] in finals among eminent juries who are directors, Managers and project heads of different industries. This team is mentored by Prof. Santhosh of Dept of Electronics & Communication Engineering.

Stuthi K A, an alumna of Sahyadri, was awarded with Ultra Tech Gold medal for having secured highest marks in the subject ‘Concrete Technology’. Vice-Principal - Mr. S S Balakrishna, Director-Research - Dr. Manjappa S and Prof. Sunil Kumar K felicitated her for the outstanding achievement. Stuthi was one the best outgoing students during her course of engineering at Sahyadri.
