Aspects of LTE-4G Dr. M.H Kori, Former Technical Director, Alcatel Lucent Technologies During the Day One of the workshop, Dr. M.H Kori, Former Technical Director, Alcatel Lucent Technologies spoke on the topic – “Key Wireless technologies driving 4G and 5G”.

RDL technologies also demonstrated its new product series EC25 QUECTEL Modem.

Aspects of LTE-4G During the Day Three of the workshop, Dr. Sondur Lakshmipathi, Former Technical Director, Founder Director of MYMO wireless technology Pvt. Ltd. spoke on the topic – “Uplink channel Transport processing and physical layer procedures”.

RDL conducted a One-Day IoT Workshop at NITK RDL conducted a One-Day IoT Workshop at NITK A One-Day IoT Workshop was conducted as a part of MoU jointly signed by the Department of Information Technology, National Institute of Technology and RDL Technologies. The workshop was conducted in the premises of IT Department of NITK with participation from more than 45 students. The IoT Engineers of RDL Technologies delivered the talk insisting on the need and benefits of familiarizing about the IoT. Motive of the workshop was to create awareness among students about IoT and provide hands on experience through simple IoT projects demonstrating the real time applications and potential of IoT using IoT Trainer kits which are designed, manufactured and delivered by RDL Technologies. Students took part in the hands-on sessions to gain insight into the area of IoT using these IoT trainer kits and appreciated the benefits of both the IoT Trainer Kits and workshop. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Geetha V, Assistant Professor and Dr. Soumya S Kamath, Assistant Professor, IT Department NITK; Ms. Nutan; Ms. Dhanya; Mr. Pradeep Kumar and Mr. Surendra from RDL Technologies.

Sahyadri NSS Unit felicitates Defense Personnel Sahyadri NSS Unit felicitates Defense Personnel To express our gratitude to the brave soldiers for their selfless service to our motherland, Sahyadri NSS Unit invited Mr Ganesh K., Junior Warrant Officer (Retd), Indian Air Force (IAF) and Captain Prashanth Kashyap, Indian Army. Sahyadri felicitated them for their dedicated service to the nation. Mr. Ganesh K. shared experience of his days of service in the IAF. He encouraged students to enroll themselves in the armed forces and said that services in the armed forces is not just about fighting wars, rather it is much more than that. Captain Prasanth Kashyap addressed the students on the various opportunities they have to serve in the defense. Prof. S.S. Balakrishna, Vice Principal, presided over the function and urged the students to choose a career in the armed forced. Dr Rajesha S., Dean Academics and Mrs. Shreelatha U.A., NSS Programme Officer, were also present.

Swacch Soch 50th Seminar at Sahyadri Swacch Soch 50th Seminar at Sahyadri Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation; Swami Jithakamananda Maharaj, Adhyaksha Ramakrishna Math, Mangaluru; Prof. S S Balakrishna, Vice-Principal inaugurated the 50th Swacch Soch Seminar organized by Ramakrishna Mission in association with Sahyadri as a part of the Swacchatha Abhiyan 5th Phase 2018-19. The coordinator of Swacch Soch - Mr. Ranjan Bellarpady, in his Key Note address shared the journey of the last 2 months of Swacch Soch Seminar at 49 colleges reaching 13,000 students. Post this; the resource persons of Swacch Soch comprising of people from various domains like Doctors, Teachers, and Principal of a college, Ex-Serviceman and Home-makers were given certificates and memento as a token of appreciation for their selfless service in this Abhiyan.

During the inaugural address, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary acknowledged Swamiji’s Soch of getting guests to Sahyadri whenever they visit the ashram so that our students benefit from their expertise. He mentioned how the entire workforce of Sahyadri was deputed at the Three-Day training in RIMSE, Mysuru for bringing change in their Soch. He said, Positive thoughts should trigger one’s mind and they should work towards accomplishing it. He said Soch is the foundation of each and every individual.

Swami Jithakamanandji while speaking to the students said that Sahyadri has a special place in his heart as he feels uplifted to a higher state in the campus. He appreciated Sahyadri’s efforts towards Knowledge and Student oriented approach. He further added – Your attitude decides your altitude and the aim of this Seminar is to create awareness in the minds of the people. He re-iterated the 4 duties – Develop internal personality, duty towards family, duty towards the organization we work in and the duty towards the Nation.

Sahyadri Football League (SFL): Inter-Class Football Tournament Sahyadri Football League (SFL): Inter-Class Football Tournament Sahyadri Football League (SFL) and Physical Education and Students Council of Sahyadri has organized a 10 days Inter-Class Football tournament for students that commenced on 26th March 2019 at Sahyadri Front ground. Ten teams of Sahyadri are participating in this tournament. The program is inaugurated by Prof. Balakrishna S. S. Vice Principal.

Technical Talk for the Civil Engineering students on account of ‘Techno Week’ by ACCE  Technical Talk for the Civil Engineering students on account of ‘Techno Week’ by ACCE Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (ACCE) in collaboration with Ultratech Cement facilitated a technical talk on account of ‘Techno Week’. The eminent resource persons were Er. Ujwal D'Souza, Director O&A Marian Projects Pvt. Ltd., Managing Partner-Marian Infrastructures and Er. Eknath Dhankery, Structural Consultant, Sigma Civil and Structural Consultants.

Er. Ujwal D'Souza emphasized on the installation, operation, and monitoring of the MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Public health systems) services in buildings, which form the technical services provided to the high rise buildings to ensure the safe, comfortable and environmentally friendly operation. He also discussed on the evolution of security systems in high rise buildings. He spoke about building automation system, which is a computer-based control system installed in buildings that controls and monitors the building's safety and security.

Er. Eknath Dhankery, in his talk, educated the students about the earth retaining structures which included Gravity walls, Cantilever walls, Counterfort retaining wall, Mechanically Stabilized Earth Walls (MSE Walls), and sheet pile wall, suitability of constructing the earth retaining structures and common modes of failure in earth retaining structures.

Er. Ayyub, representative of ACCE, Mangalore Chapter was also present during the talk. The students of the 2nd year Civil Engineering got benefitted through the session.

ECE Students participated in DrishTI Online Contest

ECE Students participated in DrishTI Online Contest  DrishTI is an initiative by Texas Instruments (TI) India University Program to complement the curriculum based learning with application oriented concepts relevant to the Industry. DrishTI online contest provides a competitive edge to learn, analyse and apply theoretical concepts and develop industry-level technology skills. It also provides experiential learning where students can solve real-world problems using State-of-the art technical material. DrishTI features a webinar series on analog and embedded technologies from industry experts followed by an online contest where students can test their learning, improve their knowledge and win exciting prizes. More than 500 students of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Information Science Engineering took exam in the following subjects - ANALOGELECTRONICS, MSP430 and DSP. All the eligible participants received E-Certificate and top 3 Winners of this contest received MSP430 Launch pad kit and Certificate from Mr. B S Madhyastha, Former Scientist, Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA). ADA, Department of Defence R&D is the nodal agency for the design & development of LCA. HAL is the principal partner in LCA Programme with participation of DRDO & CSIR Laboratories, Public & Private sector industries and academic institutions. Department of ECE received launch pad kits worth 15,000 INR for organizing this contest effectively.

10th Rank holder in VTU MBA Exams 2017-18 visits his alma mater Recently, the VTU Rank list was released and the Dept. of Business Administration celebrated the 2 Ranks secured by its students – 5th Rank and 10th Rank. Mr. Varun K, currently working at KPMG GDC, Bengaluru as Audit Associate visited his alma mater to express his gratitude for the ongoing support rendered by the department in his achievement of securing 10th Rank in VTU MBA exams 2017-18.

He spoke to the first and second year MBAs and shared his success story. He gave input on how he was able to make his dream of securing a rank come true. He said – A student from a rural background dreaming of a rank is not easy hence he doubled his efforts by teaching his fellow classmates which strengthened his confidence in the course curriculum. He added – Sahyadri is a hub of opportunities and visited IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Indore for Management fests and workshops. He urged his juniors to capitalize on the opportunities in attending conferences, pursuing additional projects apart from VTU projects during vacation. He aspires to be a Teacher and is attempting UGC NET soon.

EverestIMS Technologies India Pvt Ltd. conducted a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for Computer Science, Information Science and Electronics & Communication Engineering students of 2019 outgoing batch. Mr. Yugandhar, Executive HR along with his team were at the campus to facilitate the recruitment process. A total of 103 students from various colleges participated in the drive. Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies (SIMS) SIMS conducted a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the Mechanical Engineering students of 2019 outgoing batch. Mr. Sandesh S., HR/Admission Officer accompanied by Mr. N. S. Soman, Dean Engineering and Mr. Prasad Godbole, Engineering Faculty from the SIMS Recruitment Team were at the campus to facilitate the entire process. A total of 40 shortlisted students from various colleges were interviewed and the final results are awaited.

Sahyadrians recruited by Cognizant Ms. Rakshitha K., Ms. Soumyashree Rao, and Sushma of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mr. Bhavish P. Django Girls Workshop conducted by SOSC

Django Girls Workshop conducted by SOSC Sahyadri Open Source Women's Community (SOSWC), another initiative by SOSC exclusive for women to encourage more women in technology, conducted their first workshop for women in association with Django Girls Mangaluru at Sahyadri.

Django Girls is a non-profit organization and a community that empowers and helps women to organize free, one-day programming workshops by providing tools, resources and support. They are a volunteer-run organization with hundreds of people contributing to bringing more amazing women into the world of technology.

The free One-Day workshop comprised of building a blog using the Django framework and deploying it LIVE on to the internet. Along with the students from Sahyadri, we had enthusiastic female students from other colleges of Mangaluru region.

Mechanical Engineering Students visit Lamina Suspension Products Limited The fourth semester students of Mechanical Engineering have visited Lamina Suspension Products Limited, a leading leaf spring manufacturer based in Baikampady. Through this visit, the students came across various stages of leaf spring manufacturing and the various testing methods used to produce high quality springs. Students also got ideas about the various types of leaf springs available in the market. The visit also motivated them to explore more about heat treatment techniques used in manufacturing industries. This visit was guided by Dr. Rajesh A. Shetty, Dr. Ratishchandra R. Gatti and Dr. Niraj Joshi.

Guest interacts with Mechanical Engineering students Mr Raghunathan Krishnasamy, Chief Executive Director, Tedra Technology Pvt Ltd, Malaysia visited the campus. He interacted with the students of mechanical engineering.

Mr. Raghunathan spoke extensively on Augmented Reality /Virtual reality (AR/VR) technologies and its prospects in automobile engineering. The students also got hands-on exposure to AR/VR tools. He also called on the students to harness necessary skills in the field of AR/VR as it would be a pre-requisite for industries in the future. The department also explored the possible internship and employment opportunities for the students in Malaysia and Asia pacific region

Alumna interacts with the ECE Students Ms. Namitha S N, an alumna of Electronics & Communication Engineering (Batch 2012-2016 UG and 2016-2018 PG) visited the campus and interacted with the students.

Ms. Namitha S N is presently working as a Firmware Integration and validation Engineer at UST Global, Bengaluru. She shared her industrial experience and addressed students on how the interview process is carried out. She briefed about the work culture in the company and shared personal experience about her college days.

S.R. Kanthi College students visit Sahyadri as part of industrial visit

S.R. Kanthi College students visit Sahyadri as part of industrial visit Fifty students from Shri. S.R. Kanthi Arts, Commerce and Science College, Mudhol, Bagalkot visited the Sahyadri in-house companies as part of their industrial visit. They were able to explore various on-going projects from RDL Technologies, Caliper and Aptra Technologies.

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering arranged the industry visit on request from Mr. Ghavimath, Assistant Professor, Shri. S. R. Kanthi College. Mr. Gurusiddayya H., Assistant Professor coordinated the event as per the students’ needs and made a group of fifteen for campus tour. They were very much impressed with the college infrastructure, ambience and eco system. The various unique initiatives from the management to engage students and faculties at Sahyadri was appreciated and they have assured frequent interactions with Sahyadri.
