COMEDK UGET- 2015 at Sahyadri

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management was one of the centres for COMEDK 2015. A record number of 1448 students took the test in 2 centers allotted to Sahyadri. Students and staff of Sahyadri volunteered to help the students and their parents in all activities. Every comfort was provided to the visitors within the college campus. The visitors appreciated the informative visual presentation given by the Sahyadri team and the volunteer work done by the Sahyadrians. They expressed their appreciation of the open and friendly atmosphere of the college. They were completely satisfied with the arrangements made for their convenience and comfort. One of the candidates appreciated the systematic and organized arrangement of the examination halls and the help she received to access her examination room. The exam conducted at Sahyadri College was very well executed.

COMEDK (Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka) determines the merit of students seeking admissions to the undergraduate courses in the Member Institutions of the Karnataka Professional Colleges Foundation Trust (KPCF). The COMEDK Entrance Test is an exercise to shortlist candidates for grant of admission in a fair and transparent manner.

Tech Vision 2015

Tech Vision 2015, a two-day intra-collegiate project competition was held in the Campus. The main objective of this event is to inspire the young minds of the engineering students by providing them a platform to demonstrate their skills and knowledge through projects. More than 50 Lakh rupees has been spent on Student Project Support Scheme (SPSS) wherein the grants in terms of 5000, 10000, 25000 and 50000 INR are being provided to each of the qualified student projects. More than 200 projects including SPSS and Non-SPSS projects, and VTU final year projects of B.E./M.Tech/MCA students were displayed. More than 500 students participated in the event demonstrating their engineering talent. Diverse technologies were displayed such as ATVs, 3D printers, 3D aerobic planes, Sail planes, Quadracopters, Octo-copters, Multiengine test rig, wind energy pump, earthquake resistant building, low-cost water filter to name a few. Shreya Rai VTU Gold Medalist and Ranked Third by VTU

Mrs. Shreya Rai, M.Tech. in Computer Aided Design of Structures (CCS) has secured the Third rank with 84.67% in VTU and is the Gold Medalist to be awarded by VTU at the Annual Convocation to be held this month.

Shimna M. Ranked Eighth in the VTU Examination 2013-14

Ms. Shimna M. of the Department of Information Science & Engineering has secured the Eighth rank in the VTU examination 2013-14 by scoring 81.77% aggregate.

VTU Local Inspection Committee (LIC) Visits Sahyadri

Sahyadri College website A six member team of VTU Local Inspection Committee (LIC) visited the College. They visited various departments and expressed satisfaction and happiness with regard to the progress made by the institute and the infrastructure provided. The team appreciated the all round development of the College in a very short span of time in Academics, Research, Sports and Cultural arena.

Sahyadrians Win Six Prizes at Srishti 2015

Srishti 2015 held at New Horizon College of Engineering, Bangalore, saw Sahyadrians bagging six prizes in all three events. Fifty-two students represented Sahyadri at Srishti 2015. Sixteen projects and four paper presentation groups participated in the events.

In the first event ` An Entrepreneur's Dream - Competition of projects by final year engineering students’, Sahyadri students bagged the First, Third and Fourth prize. Shelton Rainer Pinto, Abith, Tukarama, and Ahmy Maria Pioos, Semester VIII, Civil Engineering, won the First prize of Rs. 10,000/- for their project titled `Fuzzy logic based assessment of periodic variation of water quality of Nethravati river.’ Renitha D’Souza, Shri Kalpa, Ashitha Gatty, and Vithun, Semester VIII, Civil Engineering, won the Third prize of Rs. 6,000/- for their project titled, Design Of Weir.’ The Fourth prize with a cash award of Rs. 2,000/- was bagged by Anoop N. Shenoy, Subhod I, Nithesh K, and Sona Krishnan, Semester VIII, Computer Science & Engineering for their project titled `A Revolutionary Approach In The Voting Process For State.’

In event two which was `AVISHKAR - A competition of theme based projects addressing issues of social concern’, Y. Sagar, D. Karthikeyan, Pratiksha Bhat, Madhu Adiga, Semester I, G Section, Computer Science & Engineering bagged the First place with a cash award of Rs. 10,000/- for their project titled `Edge detector and alternative solution of bricks.’ The Consolation prize of Rs. 1,000/- was bagged by Cavin Vijay Mascarenhas, Chinmaya Bharan M. R., Deekshith M., and Kaushik M. Semester IV, Civil Engineering for their project titled `Low cost water filter unit for rural north Karnataka district.’

`The Unseen Beneath The Structure’; a Paper Presentation Competition saw the Sahyadri team with Anoop N., Semester VIII, and Aathira Raj, Semester IV, Computer Science & Engineering, picking up the Third prize with a cash award of Rs. 1,000/- for their paper titled `A survey on revolutionary approach for voting system in states of India.’

Recruise India Campus Recruitment Drive

Recruise India conducted campus recruitment drive for MBA students at Sahyadri Campus organized by the Department of Business Administration. The drive commenced with a pre-placement talk by Ms. Divyashree, HR Manager and Mr. Sowrabh, HR Executive. Twenty students participated in the drive. The process consisted of group discussion and interview. The final results will be declared after the selected students give a presentation at their organization.

Exposure Visit to Anandrathi Financial Services

The Department of Business Administration organized an Exposure Visit to the Banking specialization students of II year MBA. Students visited Anandrathi Financial Services, Mangaluru, to witness the real time stock trading mechanism in a stock broking firm.

The executives of the firm explained the working of stock as well as commodity trading, the procedure involved in client-company interaction and the various strategies used in trading to gain profit or cover risks.

The branch head of Anandrathi, Mr. Prasad GR, briefed the students about the company, their verticals and also explained why stock market is beneficial to the economy and to the individual. He also encouraged them to start investing in equities so as to link their academic classroom learning into practice. He expressed that the students are free to visit the firm to seek any clarifications or learn anything about the capital market. The visit was extremely beneficial to the students as they got a practical exposure to online stock trading.

Umashankar, Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering has been published in the International Journal of Modern Trends in Engineering and Research, Volume 02, Issue 04, April 2015.

Alumni Meet 2015

Alumni Meet 2015 was organised in the campus. Seventy alumni participated in the Meet. In the morning session, alumni interacted with their juniors in the college on importance of project, soft skills and technical skills. They also addressed the faculty on corporate environment, latest technologies and the areas where students can improve. In the evening, alumni board members were selected for the next year. This was followed by games, cultural program and dinner.

Valentia D’Souza, second year MBA (Marketing) has been recruited by Exide Life Insurance Company Limited (formerly ING Vysya Life Insurance Company Limited) in the recently held recruitment drive.

Faculty Members’ Paper Published in International Journal

A research paper entitled “Single and couple doping ZnO nanocrystals characterized by positron techniques” by Dr. Tenzin Pasang and Prof. C. Ranganathaiah has been published in Material Research Express, (IOP) UK. The paper was published in cooperation with research group of Prof. K. Byrappa, Vice Chancellor, Mangalore University and research group of Prof. Jim Williams, Centre of Excellence in Mater and Anti-Matter, Australia.

Material Research Express is a journal published by Institute of Physics (IOP) publishing new experimental and theoretical research on the design, fabrication, properties and applications of all classes of materials. One of the reviewers of the paper while recommending the paper to be published commented that “….the manuscript is of the highest quality and merits publication in Materials Research Express.”

MBA Faculty Members Present Research Paper in International Conference

Ms. Sushma V. and Mr. Karthik Kudroli, Assistant Professors of the Department of Business Administration, presented a paper in the International Conference on Research in Business Management & Information Technology (ICRBIT 2015) titled - "A Study on Challenges in Recruitment & Selection in BPO/ITO Sector, Mangalore.” This conference was organized by the Department of MBA & MCA, RNS Institute of Technology, Bangalore. The research paper has been published in ELK Asia Pacific Journals Vol-2 (Business Management), Special Issue. The Journal is indexed in Google Scholar, Journals Directory, ORCID, CrossRef Metadata Search, Research Bible – ResearchBib, Indian Science, ROAD - Directory of Open Access Scholarly Resources, CrossRef, Index Copernicus International, Cabells International.

Faculty Member Presents Paper in National Conference

Mrs. Gayathri Shetty, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration, presented a paper on "Women in Leadership" in the ICSSR-sponsored two-day National Conference. The theme of the conference was "Women as Change Makers for a Vibrant Society" The program was organised by the Department of Social Work, Mangalore University, Mangalagangotri. Delegates from across India participated in the program. The program was chaired by eminent personalities from the areas of social work, law, and management.
