Prajna A. ranked fourth in MBA exams for 2014-15 conducted by VTU, Belagavi

Ms Prajna A, 2013-2015 batch student of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has bagged the fourth rank in the MBA examinations conducted by Visvesvaraya Technical University, Belagavi. She was awarded with a gold medal in the presence of the Governor at the 15th Annual Convocation of VTU in Belagavi. She has achieved this by scoring 79.08% marks. It’s a proud moment for Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management as Ms Prajna A. is the only candidate to secure a rank in the entire Mangaluru Region. Ms. Prajna was recruited by KPMG through campus placement and currently is working as Associate 1. She is handling investment related audit-specific to clients “Prudential Funds” and NB Alternatives Primary Funds and also core EGPA process- e-Audit GDC procedure analysis.

Mr. Santhosh Prabhu Addresses MBA Students on Intellectual Property Law

Mr. Santhosh Prabhu, advocate, addressed the second semester MBA students on “Intellectual Property Law.” In his lecture he explained the concept of intellectual property and the subject matter of intellectual property which includes literary and other works like inventions designs trademarks computer programs, etc. He also gave a brief history of Patent Law and the Indian Patent Act 1970. He explained the meaning of inventions and their salient features and the meaning of patent. Further, he elaborated on the administration of the patent system in India and the procedure for grant of patent which involves various steps from filling an application for a patent to grant and scaling of patent.

Mr. Karimbil Kannan Nair Shares Workplace Ethics with MBA Students

Mr. Karimbil Kannan Nair, Business Development Manager, ACE Promoters & Developers, Mangaluru, had an experience sharing session with the final year MBA students on the relevance of ‘Workplace Ethics’ in the present business scenario. Mr. Kannan started his career in Manipal Informatics as a Sales Executive handling American & UK clients. He then moved to Mphasis, An HP Company wherein he saw multiple promotions from a Senior Customer Support Officer to an Operations Manager position. He is also an Agriculturist cultivating rubber plants in Kerala. Being passionate about cricket, he has represented Karnataka under 16, 19 and 22 in Zonal Cricket. He has also represented Karavali Cricket Club, Mangaluru to play club matches in South Africa, Australia and Sri Lanka.

In the next one or two months, our student’s would step into their career and it is critical for them to understand the nitty-gritty of workplace ethics. He shared his personal anecdotes giving references on how important it is to build trust & credibility in the organization he/she works for, which in turn can fetch growth opportunities and recognitions. He narrated instances of his life wherein one of the factors – ‘Ego’ deprived him of opportunities in reaching greater heights in the field of cricket. He urged the students to practice professionalism in the workplace and created awareness among the students of the various severity levels of disciplinary actions that can be taken against employees who violate company policies & procedures. He also emphasized that employers do not appreciate company resources being utilized for personal reasons hence students should be watchful of using internet facilities, computers and other infrastructure that are meant for official purpose alone.

He opened the forum for discussion on “Death of Privacy due to Social Media” and shared few facts on how social networking posts have led to death of privacy. He also urged the students to be observant of their posts on social networking sites as this may lead to breach of privacy. All his experiences portrayed the meaning of Workplace Ethics as “Doing the right thing even when no one is watching”. It was an interactive session and the students were able to relate to the scenarios well with the anecdotes shared by him.

A paper entitled “An Empirical Analysis of Performance of Retail and Wholesale Conventional Banks in Bahrain”, co-authored by Mr. Lokesh, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration, has been published in the British Journal of Economics, Finance and Management Sciences (BJEFM) (ISSN: 2048-125X). BJEFM is an open access, peer-reviewed, and refereed journal and published from UK. BJEFM is a Scopus journal and is monitored by Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI). The journal is indexed in EconLit, e-JEL, JEL on CD, EBSCO, ProQuest ABI/INFORM, SSRN, DOAJ, Elsevier Bibliographic Databases, Scopus, Ulrich, Cabell's Directory of Publishing Opportunities in Economics and Finance, 10th edition (online edition).


Second year MBA Students Bid Adieu

Second year MBA students were bid adieu by the first year MBA students. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, was the chief guest. He addressed the students and suggested to them to lead a life with commitment, continuous efforts and focus. He wished the students for their future endeavors and asked them to remain connected with the institution. Dr Vishal Samartha, Director of Business Administration gave an inspirational talk for the outgoing students. She asked the students to practice humility and be God-fearing as it would be instrumental in their growth prospects in the future.

The Best Outgoing Student in Academics - Lolitha Jane D’Souza, Best Outgoing Student in Cultural - Kaushal Jogi, Best Outgoing Student in Sports –Manheeth Vittal, Best Outgoing Student in Coordination - Dhruvi Kothari and Best Outgoing Student Over all - Mrs Chaitra Shetty were felicitated. The day was filled with lots of games, cultural and fun events and all the students cherished every moment of the program.

Dr. C. K. Manjunath delivers lecture to Kendriya Vidyalaya students and holds a workshop for teachers

Dr. C. K. Manjunath, Prof. of Humanities & Administrator, was invited by Kendriya Vidyalaya to give a guest lecture to the students of standard XII about the perspectives of engineering. He also conducted a workshop for teachers from various zones of Kendriya Vidyalaya. More than forty-two students participated and around thirty-five teachers were present for the workshop.

Faculty member presents paper in IEEE Conference

A research paper titled, "Modeling and Simulation of Multi Coil Induction Heating System for Semiconductor Wafer Processing" by Ms. Nisha, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering was presented at the 2016 IEEE Conference on Recent Trends in Electronics, Information and Communication Technology (RTEICT) held at SVCE, Bangalore. The proceedings of the conference will be published in IEEE Xplore.

A research paper entitled "Design and Implementation of Digital Libraries: A study of Open Source Digital Library Software" by Mrs. Bharathi K.
