A technical paper titled - "Combinatorial Auction-Greedy Based Allocation of Virtual Machine Instances in Clouds" by Ms. Aathira Raj, Ms. Aysha Mahfooza Afnan, Ms. Kirthi Shenoy & Ms. Melissa Rego of eighth semester Computer Science & Engineering won First place in “Vision-17”, a National Level Technical Fest for PG students held at KVG College of Engineering, Sullia. They presented the paper under the guidance of Prof. Sudheer Shetty, Head of Department of Computer Science & Engineering.

PARVA 2k17, a Cultural Extravaganza organized by AEnCES AEnCES (Association of E&C Engineering Students), the student association of Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized “PARVA 2k17”, a Cultural Extravaganza. Mr. Raj B Shetty, Actor & Director was the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony with Dr. J V Gorabal, Dean-Academics gracing the event. This was followed by cultural extravaganza by the students.

Five-Day Training on GST Business Process for D.K and Udupi officials at Sahyadri Five-Day Training on GST Business Process for D.K and Udupi officials at Sahyadri Department of Commercial Tax has organized a Five-Day Lecture/Demo/Hands-on Online Training on GST Network front end business process for its officials of D.K and Udupi District at Sahyadri. A total of 300 officials (60 officials a day) are trained by 6 officers. Training programme emphasizes on registration process, return process, tax payment process & tax officials interface.

Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect taxation in India merging most of the existing into single system of taxation. GST is a comprehensive indirect tax on manufacture, sale and consumption of goods and services throughout India (Except state of Jammu and Kashmir), to replace taxes levied by the central and state governments. It was introduced as The Constitution (One Hundred and First Amendment) Act 2016, following the passage of Constitution 122nd Amendment Bill. The GST is governed by GST Council and its Chairman is Union Finance Minister of India. GST is expected to be applicable from 1 July 2017. Introduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a significant step in the reform of indirect taxation in India.

MBAs visit Cogent E Services Pvt Ltd, Mangaluru to promote Industry-Academia Interface As an initiative to create an interface between academia and corporate world, students of 1st year MBA are taken on company visits in teams with their respective mentor, targeting various sectors of businesses operating in the vicinity and also in other cities.

This time, Prof. Sushma V accompanied her mentees to Cogent E Services Pvt Ltd, Mangaluru, a leading Indian Contact Centre which assists clients to Service, Acquire & Retain Customers. Though this organization was established 14 years ago, it started its operations in Mangaluru effective Sep’16 and ramped up from 0 to 300 employees involved in Airtel 121 Prepaid Customer Service, Videocon DTH Customer Service and Airtel Tele-Verification. In an interaction session with Ms. Laxmi Narasimhan, Site Head, Mr. Ananth, Operations Manager, Mr. Hariprasad, Quality & Training Head, our students were given heads-up on the HR, Finance & Marketing Function of the organization. As it is a service industry operating on outsourced businesses they have also shared inputs on how they brand themselves to attract talents. An insightful Question & Answer session contributed immensely to students in acquiring necessary skills, knowledge and experience to successfully break into industry. These experiences shall be presented to the rest of their fellow members in class. The same team shall visit a Manufacturing sector in mid-May’17. It is encouraging to note that Industry experts are now partnering with the knowledge enhancement of students.

Bed Sheet distribution at Govt. Hospital, Bantwal Taluk Ten students of first year MBA under the guidance of Mentor Prof. B. Raghavendra Prabhu visited Shri Laxmi Narayana Industry, Vamadapadavu, leading manufacturers of Yajamana pickles, Yajamana Cashews, Yajamana Malt Powder, Badam Powder and Cocum Juice. The Owner of the Factory Dr. Varadaraj Pai took the students round the automated factory and explained the operations in the area of Finance, Marketing and Human Resources. During the Q&A session, he shared his success story which is a source of inspiration for our students.

A Health Care Organization approaches Sahyadri MBA to conduct their Employee Satisfaction Survey As a part of the HR Policy it is mandatory to conduct an external employee satisfaction survey for their employees by a Management Education institution which shall give them a report on the satisfaction rate of their employees. As they consider our institute as one of the best in the region, they approached the department to guide students in conducting a survey & submit the report with thorough analysis on the Employee Satisfaction to their management. Seven students of Sahyadri MBA kicked off this project with utmost commitment to deliver the best results to this Health Care organization.

Bed Sheet distribution at Govt. Hospital, Bantwal Taluk Prof. Raghavendra Prabhu, Department of Business Administration along with his mentees of first year MBA visited Govt. Hospital, Bantwal Taluk to know how an individual can serve the society in true sense. The hospital visit was an enriching experience for students in getting live exposure of patient’s behaviour. They donated Bed sheets to BPL General Ward patients in the presence of The Chief Medical Officer and Chief Nursing In charge.

Mphasis Ltd HRBP speaks to MBAs Mr. Ben Subbarao, HR Business Partner of Mphasis Ltd, Mangaluru addressed the first year MBA students on HR practices carried out in their organization. In his talk, he emphasised on the key competencies – Communication, Emotional Intelligence, Hard Skill & Soft Skill, Hands-on experience on HR tools for Data Analysis that the students should develop in order to excel in the profession of an HR. He insisted on reading information about what is happening in the industry through “People Matters”, “Twitter”, and “Forbes” etc that provides insights & opinions on Human Resources issues.

Faculty member successfully Defends PhD Thesis

Wish u a Happy Basava Jayanthi Prof. F. Jyothi Serrao, Department of Physics successfully defended her PhD thesis titled - "Study of Structural, Optical and Electrical Properties of Pure and Doped ZnO thin Film” at Mangalore University. The research work was guided by Dr. S.M. Dharmaprakash, Professor, Dept. of Physics, Mangalore University. In her public defense external examiner was Dr. S. Srikanta Swamy from Mysore University.

Prof. F. Faculty Member receives Scholarship for Post-Doctoral Research at USA

Dr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering receives Scholarship and J1 visa for Post-Doctoral Research for a period of 6 months (1st July 2017 to 31st December 2017) at the prestigious University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA under the guidance of Prof. Murat M. Tanik, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, who is currently working on related projects for NASA. During his Post-Doctoral Research he would also be collaborating with Professor Hong Lin, Department of Computer Science and Engineering Technology, University of Houston Downtown, USA and Professor Hongwei (Harry) Zhu, Former Research Scientist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. He would be re-joining our institution on 1st January 2018.
