Felicitation to one of the toppers in SSLC

MBAs-on-an-Industry-visit-to-Target-Corporation-India-Pvt-Ltd,-Bengaluru Ms. Prathiksha Rao of Canara Pre-University College was felicitated at the campus for being one among the top scorers in the recently conducted SSLC board Exam, Karnataka. Ms. Prathiksha has secured 618/625. Swami Yekagamyanandaji from the Ramakrishna Math, Mangaluru felicitated Ms. Prathiksha on her achievement and blessed her in the presence of the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. Chairman appreciated the good work and stated that it is a proud moment to have Ms. Prathiksha in the campus.

Ms. Prathiksha Rao has actively participated and achieved success also in the field of Bharathnatyam, Carnatic Vocal, Drawing, Photography and NCC, apart from the academics. She has participated in the Bharathnatyam competitions held at Kuwait, Golden Temple Vellore, Mysore Dasara and National Youth Festival.

Awareness programme on Road Safety by NSS unit

MBAs-on-an-Industry-visit-to-Target-Corporation-India-Pvt-Ltd,-Bengaluru A campaign on “Slow Down –Save Lives”, UN Global Road safety week programme initiated by VTU NSS and Red Cross Cell was celebrated in Bengaluru by his Excellency the Governor of Karnataka & Vice Chancellor of the University in the presence of the Chief Guest of the function - Mr. Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Union Minister for Transport & Highways. This event was concurrently arranged in the constituent colleges of VTU.

Pledge was taken by the members present during the programme and also in the classrooms. Sahyadrians-join-hands-for-Swachh-Mangaluru-Abhiyan As a part of Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan, cleanliness drive was carried out by Sahyadrians in the surrounding areas of Milagres Circle, Mangaluru. Swami Prajnanathanandaji of Tirupathi Ramakrishna Mission & Ms. Sunitha Priya D’Silva jointly flagged off the initiative. Students were segregated in three groups to carry out this drive concurrently in Falnir Road, Railway Station Road & Hampankatta Main Road.

MBAs visit SKF Boilers MBAs visit SKF Boilers Prof. Padmanabha B accompanied his mentees to SKF Boilers & Driers Pvt. Ltd and SKF Elixer India Pvt.Ltd, Bannadka Belvai, Moodbidri. At first, the team visited SKF Boilers & Driers Pvt Ltd, Manufacturer & Supplier-Stainless steel plant, boilers, and rice parboiling plant. The students had a site tour to observe the operations of the firm. “Vardan” is their special product which is known for its high output, with remarkably low consumption of power and fuel.

Later, they visited SKF Elixer India Pvt Ltd that designs and manufactures the entire range of Water Purifiers-domestic, institutional and commercial model. The company also manufactures Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP’s), specially designed for rice mills and industries. Mr. Mohan, HR Manager explained the varied processing units and services offered by the company. They also had an interaction with Mr. G Ramakrishna Achar, Managing Director and Mr. Prajwal Achar, Technical Director of the company.

Ed College, Padil which was organized at Science Centre, Pilikula. The team conducted various activities related to Personality Development. Participants were made aware of the impact of one’s personality on success or failure in life. Various concepts like Self-Belief, Break through thinking, Self-Esteem, Team Coordination was touched upon during the training programme which is important as the participants were our future teachers.

Talk by Director at VCET, Puttur

Talk-by-Director-at-VCET,-Puttur Dr. D L Prabhakara, Director was invited to address the gathering during One-day workshop on “Advances in Structural & Transportation Engineering” – MANTHAN 2017 organized by Department of Civil Engineering, Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Puttur.

Dr. D L Prabhakara engaged the students of fourth and seventh semester Civil engineering with informative and mesmerizing talk on ‘Analyses of Statically Determinate Structures’. He enlightened the students about determinate & indeterminate structures and their differences. Practical examples shared during the session helped the students to picturize the theory. Concepts related to slope and deflection of beams and different methods of deriving them were also discussed. The talk concluded with a Question & Answer session which gave an opportunity to students and faculty members to gain more insight on the subject matter.

Mr. Sandeep Satrasala, Accountant & Tax Officer interacted with the students and apprised them with extremely interesting facts about their organization. ITC has 300 factories all over India and our students got an opportunity to visit their biggest factory situated in Bengaluru and were take on a site tour to view the manufacturing process from procurement to packaging. It was fantastic to view ITC’s initiative on generating renewable sources of energy to support production. In addition to this, students were also informed of the various CSR activities undertaken by the organization like converting waste land into productive land, women empowerment measures and adoption of villages etc.

Students of 1st year MBA along with their mentor, Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration visited Target Corporation India Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru as a part of Industry-Academia interface. This organization recruits employees only from premier B-Schools & getting an approval to visit their organization was in itself a great attainment for Sahyadri MBA.

They highlighted the initiatives of the organization in terms of “The Target Accelerator Programme” which is designed to help early stage start-ups. Through this four month intensive programme they focus on transformative and technology-driven ideas to create solutions for today’s rapidly changing retail environment. In India, they also contribute towards CSR activities in the form of grants to NGOs.

Infosys conducts “Spark” for the YR 2017 selects

This programme oriented students regarding corporate expectations, heads up about the company and the career opportunities in the organization based on performance. Twenty Six students attended the programme to fine-tune themselves to the expectation before they join the organization.

MBA HR Student placed as a Cluster Trainer at LEVI’S in appreciation for her Internship Project

Ms. Harshitha Vasantha Rai, second year MBA HR Student has been appointed as a Cluster Trainer, LEVI’S by Vogue Clothing (part of Vogue Vestures Pvt Ltd). Harshitha would be the Training & Development in charge of 10 stores of LEVI’S (4 in Mangaluru, 2 in Bengaluru and 1 each in Kalaburgi, Davangere, Belagavi & Hubli). She had pursued her internship project in “Competency Mapping for Front Line Managers to enhance their performance” under the guidance of Prof. Sushma V which has been appreciated by the HR recruiter as it identifies the competency gap in employees and suggests training measures to bridge the gap in competency. This has contributed to her placement in a Cluster Trainer position.

Community Initiative: Two-Day PGCET Training @ Sahyadri during June 15th – 16th 2017

PGCET, MBA entrance exam has become a compulsory requirement to gain admission to Master of Business Administration (MBA) course in Management institutes of Karnataka under Government Quota. Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru is organizing a Two-Day PGCET Training during June 15th - 16th 2017 as a community initiative to support MBA aspirants pursue MBA in Top B-Schools of Karnataka under Government seat. Experts from both industry and academia will conduct the training on the five areas of the PGCET. Mock tests will be conducted during the training to enable the students to score high marks. Additionally, counselling sessions are also given to all participants to write PGCET conducted by the Government of Karnataka. Internship Project led placement of an MBA student in Reliance Retail

Mr. Vikhyath V S, 2nd year MBA Marketing Student has been selected as Department Manager in Training in Assistant Manager - B1 grade by Reliance Retail. Mr. Vikhyath did his internship at Trends, Manipal titled - "A Study on Gender Effects on Selective Distortion" using observation technique where he mapped the customer journey & emotions. The study was entirely based on Qualitative Data. This project was well appreciated by Reliance Retail which led to his placement in a higher position compared to the positions available for an MBA fresher. The project is done under the guidance of Prof. Girish M and Dr. Rashmi Kodikal. During his project, Mr. Vikhyath underwent a thorough training on retail by Mr. Jagadish, Store Manager, Trends, Manipal who was also a student of Prof. Girish M.

Civil Engineering students secured First place in Inter Collegiate Competition

Students of final semester from the department of Civil Engineering participated in "STHAPATHI - 2017," an Inter Collegiate Competition held in P.A College of Engineering , Mangaluru and secured first place in Treasure Hunt, second place in paper presentation and Civil quiz.



Academic Administrative Officer (AAO) invited as a Resource Person

Ms. Shreelatha U A, AAO was invited as a resource person to facilitate a Training Programme on Leadership & Communication organized by Karnataka Health Promotion Trust in association with Azim Premji Foundation to train six hundred and fifty adolescent girls from fifty two villages of Koppal District. A team of five resource persons including Ms. Shreelatha U A was deputed for a week.
