Visit of Union Ministers lighted up Sahyadri today

Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Mr. Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Mr. Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State in Finance and Corporate Affairs visited Sahyadri along with other dignitaries. Mr. Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament facilitated this visit as a part of their “Workshop for Beneficiaries” on MUDRA Yojana, Start Up India & Stand Up India which was held in Sahyadri Campus.

Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship While addressing Sahyadrians, Mr. Rajiv Pratap Rudy extended his deepest condolence to the Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Mr. Anil Madhav Dave who passed away this morning. He then informed the gathering of his urgency to leave and quickly appreciated the B.E students who brought laurels to Sahyadri by participating in competitions at IITs/NITs and also took pride in congratulating them by saying that these students are much better than them as they won places in top engineering institutions of the country. He then inaugurated “Tech Vision 2017”, an intra-collegiate project competition and congratulated the participants for their extraordinary projects displayed and presented during the site tour. He also released a book on “First Year Engineering Students Achievements” which talks about the success stories of the student’s participation at IITs and NITs.

Mr. Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State in Finance and CorporateMr. Arjun Ram Meghwal, during his interaction with Sahyadri Management and Staff team, promoted the concept of Start Ups to be driven by the institution & was delighted on viewing that several Start Ups already existed in Sahyadri.

During his speech at the “Workshop for Beneficiaries”, he had words of praise for Mangaluru being the Education Hub in addition to Skills which can be used effectively through MUDRA Yojana for the development of the nation. He clarified that GDP has three baskets – Consumption, Investment & Export. Hence the loans granted through MUDRA Yojana increases consumption due to increased productivity, increases investment through profits and also reduces Exports. In this whole process, the GDP increases and Karnataka will lead in the contribution to GDP of the nation in the years to come.

Initially, people had skill however they could not Start Up & Stand Up as they did not have guarantee for their Skill, however with Skill India, they get certified and the Honourable Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modiji has taken the guarantee for Mudra Loans on himself. He concluded his talk by saying Year 2017 is a year of Economic Reforms for India as there are various economical initiatives taken this year.

Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament Mr. Nalin Kumar Kateel while addressing the gathering briefly described the initiatives of Skill India which is a measure proposed to retain Indian talents by providing 3/6 months and also one year course on Skill Development. This would in turn lead to Make in India through MUDRA Yojana. He concluded by giving a gist of how funds have been allocated and effectively utilized in Dakshina Kannada District under various programmes on Education, Skill Development, Upliftment of Women, Infrastructure, Rural Development and so on.

The organizers of the “Workshop for Beneficiaries” thanked Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation for his support in the smooth conduct of the programme.

College Day – “Utsav 2k17” celebrated with great joy in the Campus

Utsav-2k17 College wore a festive air as “Utsav 2k17”, the College Day was celebrated in the Campus. Mr. Dikshith Rai, Founder, Codecraft Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Mangaluru and Mr. G Govindraj Prabhu, Sales Head Publishing and Export, Manipal Technologies Ltd, Manipal were the Chief Guests of the Inaugural Ceremony. For the very first time, the Sahyadri Chande Team played Chande as an accompaniment to escort the guests onto the dais. The Chief Guests inaugurated the programme by the beats of Chande which was a unique experience for all gathered during the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. G Govindraj Prabhu mentioned that he was trained on Personality Development only after he joined job and at college, priority was given to academics alone, however at Sahyadri there is balance between academics and other activities like Cultural, Social and Management which shall make students ready fit to the industries. He emphasized on Innovation being the Mantra of the Day and urged the students to not limit themselves to their domain area, but explore and involve in whatever tasks they perform.

Mr. Dikshith Rai, during his speech highlighted few pointers that played a key role in his success - Be nice to yourself and to others, Develop Skills every day, work hard and there is no alternative to it, Compete with self to be better each day than competing with others.
Prof. Balakrishna S S, Vice-Principal, read out the annual report for the academic year 2016-17 and highlighted the achievements and accolades received by the institution. In his Presidential address, Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal stimulated students to derive pleasure out of whatever task they do which fetches excellence to self. He also re-iterated the importance of holding Cultural Celebrations which is a means to recreate energy and the same energy should continue in studies as well. He also shared an anecdote which symbolised the current situation students are in. They are resistant to all the initiatives taken by the institution for their development, however during the long run these initiatives and activities make the students stand strong in comparison to their peers.
Mr. Devadas Hegde, Trustee, Bhandary Foundation also graced the event. Academic toppers of each semester and Best Outgoing Students of each branch were felicitated and the Student Council was honoured. Winners of the recently held Tech Vision 2017 were also called onto the dais for prize distribution. Students showcased their talent in a scintillating cultural programme - Cultural Extravaganza.

Tech Vision 2017

Tech Vision 2017 More than 100 projects were exhibited during “Tech Vision 2017” collectively by undergraduate and post graduate students. This programme was organized by Department of Civil Engineering. The judges of the event from neighbouring engineering colleges placed on note, their appreciation towards the efforts of the Department and the institution with regards to triggering Project-Based Learning System amongst students. The exhibition was followed by valedictory ceremony of “Tech Vision”, SPACE and farewell for final semester students. Dr. Varghese George, Head, Dept. of Civil Engineering, NITK, Surathkal was the chief guest of the valedictory function. Dr. J V Gorbal, Dean Academics, Prof. Purushothama C T, HOD (UG) and Prof. Umesh S S, HOD (PG) were also present.

Renew Summer Camp by DTlabz

Renew Summer Camp by DTlabz An adventurous journey of twenty five campers at Sahyadri concluded on May 13th’17. The inaugural ceremony of the Three-Day Renew Summer Camp by DTlabz was adorned by the Chief Guest - Mr. Giridhar Salian, Director of KGTTI & Deputy Director of ITI, Mangaluru and Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal. Mr. Giridhar Salian while addressing the campers explained why it is important to have a curious mind and follow one’s passion. He also encouraged them to get rid of any fear that is stopping them to come forward. The day took off with team building activities that brought them together as a team. This was followed by Launch IT, wherein students went through a process of product development to advertising and also marketing it.
Day 2 of the camp started with the bicycle workshop, where campers learnt how a bike works. They were also guided on how to fix it in case of a breakdown. This was followed by a slow race. The campers also had an industrial visit to ITI and KGTTI, Mangaluru where they had a chance to view several computer technologies and automobiles used in day today life.

On day 3, the campers were trained on building a dancing robot. The afternoon session was filled with colours and light as the campers designed their own study lamp. The day concluded with Treasure Hunt which engaged the participants and created memories to cherish for the rest of their lives.
Renew Summer Camp by DTlabz At Sahyadri, an awareness programme on Road Safety was organized by the NSS Unit by presenting videos on Road safety. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal while addressing the gathering mentioned that everyone should slow down so that they enjoy the very essence of life & shared motivational stories of Buddha to detail his statement. Pledge was taken by the members present during the programme and also in the classrooms. Ms. Shreelatha U A, AAO, Dr. J V Gorabal, Dean - Academics, Mr. Naveen Pilar, HOD, Art & Culture & the first year students were present during the programme.

Outgoing Students of MBA Bid Adieu  The outgoing students of MBA were bid adieu in a farewell programme organized by the junior students of the department.

Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration and Dr. Lokesh, Academic Coordinator addressed the final year students and wished them good luck in their future journey. All faculty members of the department were present to wish the students and bid them farewell.

The outgoing students shared their experience and expressed their gratitude to the faculty members, the institution and the Chairman for making their journey wonderful. The juniors organized a cultural programme to entertain the gathering and made it a day to remember.

MBA Office Staff’s Daughter felicitated for securing 94.4% in SSLC Board Exam Ms. Pooja, Daughter of Vanitha P, MBA Office Staff was felicitated by the Department of Business Administration on securing 94.4% in SSLC Board Exam 2017, Karnataka. She has done her SSLC in St. Ann’s High School, Mangaluru. It is worth mentioning that Pooja has scored 100/100 in Hindi Subject. During the felicitation, Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration appreciated Ms. Vanitha P on how her leaves were being effectively utilized to support her daughter during exams. Felicitation to one of the toppers in SSLC Mr. Prateek Timmappa Bhat of M.E.S Telanga High School, Sirsi who has secured 619/625 marks was felicitated at the campus for being one among the top scorers in the recently conducted SSLC Board Exam, Karnataka by the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. Prateek has not only excelled in academics but has actively participated and achieved in the field of Hindustani Music under the category of senior grade as well as drawing.

“Right Vision, Right Life” – Motivational Talk by Swami Nirbhayanandaji  Swami Nirbhayanandaji, President, Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashram, Gadag visited Sahyadri along with Swami Jithakamanandaji, President, Ramkrishna Mutt, Swami Prakashanandaji, Ranibennur and Swami Brahmanishtanandaji & Swami Gurusharananandaji from Chithradurga. During his inspirational talk, Swami Nirbhayanandaji said “Satyam Vada, Dharmachara” which calls upon to be righteous, honest, follow dharma, have commitment, goal & right vision towards life & also introspect one’s own self. He advised the students to develop ‘Alter Ego’ concept (Mirror image of one’s self). He also mentioned that one should have passion for unravelling truth. Swamiji summarized his talk stimulating students to be creative, take initiative, be a team player & face challenges with confidence.

Invited as a Guest at KSPCB, Regional Office, Davangere for Guddali Pooja Ceremony Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director, Research & Consultancy was invited as one of the guests along with Sri Lakshman, Chairman, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), Bengaluru on the occasion of Guddali Pooja Ceremony of the Laboratory Block of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board at Regional Office, Davangere.

The project cost of the building is 5.63 crores with ultra modern laboratory facilities with the investment of another ten crores on equipment and manpower to cater to the needs of industries of the state.

A research article titled "Localization in Wireless Sensor Networks using Rigid Graphs: A Review", authored by Prof. Shamanth Rai, Department of Computer Science & Engineering has been accepted for publication in SCI indexed journal, Wireless Personal Communications, Springer, having an impact factor of 0.71.

A Research Paper titled “Pressure and its derivative with respect to Piston Mach number for an Oscillating Cone” authored by Prof. Aysha Shabana, Department of Mathematics has been published in the IOSR Journal of Mechanical and Civil Engineering (IOSR- JMCE) e-ISSN: 2278-1684, p-ISSN: 2320-334X .PP 74-78. This paper deals with obtaining mathematical expressions for surface pressure and its derivative with respect to Mach number for an Oscillating Cone.
