Dr. Sam Pitroda visits Sahyadri and interacts with students and staffDr. Sam Pitroda visits Sahyadri and interacts with students and staff Dr. Sam Pitroda is an internationally respected telecom inventor, entrepreneur, development thinker, and policy maker who has spent 50 years in information and communications technology (ICT) and related global and national developments. During his tenure as Advisor to Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Dr. Pitroda led six technology missions related to telecommunications, water, literacy, immunization, dairy production, and oil seeds. He was also the founder and first Chairman of India’s Telecom Commission. In these plural roles, Dr. Pitroda helped revolutionize India's development philosophies and policies with a focus on access to technology as the key to social change.

Dr. Sam Pitroda visits Sahyadri and interacts with students and staff During the interactive session, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation introduced Dr. Pitroda to the students and staff. He said Sam’s journey of life is an inspiration to him. He also said that during the setting-up process of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, he had approached Dr. Sam Pitroda for advice and Sam was very clear that an institution should be 1 out of 100 and not 99 out of 100. Chairman proudly expressed the fact that Sahyadri is now contributing to the society and has reached the goal which Sam had initially set for Sahyadri. He mentioned of the achievements talking about how Sahyadri has grown over the years. He also acknowledged that Sam is the person behind the strategic implementation of out-of-the box initiatives undertaken by Sahyadri.

He was fascinated by the student-centric innovations at the campus and referred Sahyadri to the ‘Learning of tomorrow’.

Talking about education, Dr. Pitroda mentioned that the current education system needs to be changed. It is the next big challenge for the country. The world we live in is very obsolete. Information is been democratized. Everything is available yet we don’t know how to use it. To learn something, you just need motivation, time and content. If you have enough motivation and time, you can get surplus amount of content on the internet and you can learn whatever you want, he said. Dr. Pitroda concluded his speech asking the students to face the unknown, redefine yourself & be creative.

Dignitaries from Capgemini, Mumbai & Logexsoft Inc, Boston, USA visit Sahyadri Sahyadri had the honour of hosting two dignitaries at the campus today. Mr. K Sudhakar Shetty, Senior Management, Capgemini, Mumbai & Mr. Sathyananda Bhandary, Senior Vice-President of Logexsoft Inc, Boston, USA who was earlier with Oracle, a global software giant. Mr. K Sudhakar Shetty is a classmate of our Vice-Principal - Prof. S S Balakrishna and the college mate of our Chairman - Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. It is also worth mentioning that Mr. Sathyananda Bhandary was instrumental during the visit of our Chairman to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, a renowned Technological Institute in the world and arranging interactions with top Scientists and academicians of that Institute which substantially helped Sahyadri in scaling to a new level. After visiting various departments, facilities and newly started companies of Sahyadri, they appreciated the growth of Sahyadri and wished that the institute emerge as one of the best institutions in the country very soon.

TechVision – 2018

Techvision-18Techvision-18 TechVision 2018, a One-Day intra-collegiate project competition was held in the campus. The main objective of this event was to inspire young minds by providing them a platform to demonstrate their skills and knowledge through projects. Around 20 lakhs rupees have been spent on Sahyadri Project Support Scheme (SPSS) wherein the grants are being provided to each of the qualified student projects. More than 710 projects including SPSS and Non-SPSS projects of BE, M.Tech, MBA and VTU final year projects of B.E students were on display. More than 3000 students participated in the event demonstrating their engineering talent.

Techvision-18 Techvision-18 TechVision 2018 was inaugurated by Mr. K. Prabhakar Rao, Director –Works, Mangalore Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd and Dr. Ramakrishna, Senior Principal Scientist, Defence Food Research Laboratory, DRDO, Ministry of Defence. While addressing the gathering, Mr. K. Prabhakar Rao emphasised on project management as one of the experiences to be learnt by students. He spoke about PDCA Cycle, Six Sigma and the new technologies. He also touched upon the difference between innovation and invention. He mentioned that the transition from one comfort zone to higher level of comfort zone is through many uncomfortable zones.

Techvision-18Techvision-18 Dr. Ramakrishna talked about the importance of food. He said food should be taken as medicine & not medicine taken as food. He spoke about diverse emerging technologies and motivated the students to take up projects. During the valedictory ceremony, the winning projects of both Engineering & MBA were awarded.

Chief Guest of the function was Mr. Vidya Shankar, Territory Manager, South Karnataka Region, TTK Prestige Ltd. and alumnus of Computer Science & Engineering of Sahyadri. He shared his experience as an employee of Prestige Ltd. and advised the students to have positive mindset in life and also talked about contribution of Sahyadri for his career.

Dr. J V Gorabal, Dean Academics was the Guest of Honour. Prof. Sudheer Shetty, HOD, Dept. of CSE gave the Presidential address. Annual Report of the club activities was presented by Supravi Rai, the General Secretary of CLOUDS. Awards were distributed to the class toppers of the Odd semester. The outgoing students and faculty members shared their experiences at Sahyadri. Staff Coordinator – Mr. Shailesh Shetty and Vice-President – Mr. Shisir Shetty were present during this occasion. Cultural events were organized both by Students and Staff.

The event started with the inauguration ofSOSC by SwathiBavanaka and Subtask Konda- the speakers of the event. Subsequently the formal function began with Dr. U.M.Bhushi, Principal, addressing the gathering. His words were as usual very inspiring and thought provoking. This was followed by a few words from the speaker of the day encouraging the attendees.Aninteractive session was conducted by SwathiBavanaka, COO of Evibe and an inspiring Women Techspeaker who spoke on UX (user experience).
The next session was conducted by SubhashKonda, Software engineer II, Microsoft, who spoke on modern data science.Students from various colleges actively participated on Day One of the event.

Eco-friendly Products and PracticesEco-friendly Products and Practices The two-day workshop on “Eco-friendly Products and Practices” concluded on Saturday. The Chief Guest of the valedictory ceremony was Mr. Bhaskar Kamath, Head-Roof top Engineering, TATA Power Solar, Bengaluru. During his talk, he urged the students to inculcate creativity in their minds which comes only when we revise the goals. The function was presided by Vice-Principal Prof. Balakrishna S S and Dr. Premanand Shenoy. Prof. Sunil Kumar K, HoD, Civil Department, Prof. Ramya. K, SPACE Co-ordinator & faculty of Civil Department and also Civil engineering students were present during the occasion.

As a part of the workshop, students of Dept of Civil Engineering visited “Master Plannery”, Nehru Nagar, Puttur. Master Plannery is a technology, engineering, construction, manufacturing and financial company. The students witnessed different indoor and outdoor precast products which were innovative, strong, resistant and low cost. Most of the products resembled wood in texture but no wood in it actually.

Sahyadri celebrates the College Day Sahyadri celebrates the College Day Sahaydri celebrated the College Day on a grand scale. The dignitaries were escorted to the stage with a traditional welcome. MrPrithvirajShetty, Placement President introduced the guests and welcomed the luminaries on stage.

The prestigious event was inaugurated to the traditional beats of the drumby the Chief Guest MsMamathaPrabhu HRD, WuerthElektronik India Pvt Limited.

MsPrabhu, a Human Resource Professional, has over 20 years of experience in Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development and as HR Generalist role. Having worked with different verticals of Industry, she is currently working with Electronics Engineering Organisation as HR & Admin.

In her inaugural speechMsPrabhu thanked the Sahyadri team for giving her such honour and also appreciated the vibrancy on the part of the students. She went on to say that there are quite a number of Sahyadrians working in her organization. She called upon the students to be holistic and plan in advance.There is so much to learn she said and there is no dearth of data. She further reminded that failures are a stepping stone to success. Be agile, aware and impulsive she said. Ultimately it is all about how one achieves goals to satisfy one’s inner self, she opined.

The Vice Principal read out the annual report for the Year 2017-18 enumerating the various achievements of the students and the initiatives undertaken by Sahyadri.

This was followed by felicitation by the guests of honour. Academic achievers, various council heads as also the outgoing students were felicitated.Dr U M Bhushi, Principal delivered the presidential speech. He expressed his sincere appreciation and lauded the students on their various achievements. He also advised the students that while indulging in social media also to be aware of its menace. His speech as usual was motivating and thought-inspiring.

Vote of thanks was rendered by MrAnurajChowta, Cultural Council Head and a student of Electronics & Communication Engineering.This was followed by cultural event. Various cultural programs were organized. The participantsdisplayed exhilarating performance of dance and melody songs. With this the college day event was brought to a successful conclusion.

Sahyadri organizes Industrial visit to Goa Sahyadri organizes Industrial visit to Goa An Industrial visit was organized for First Year MBA students under the mentorship of Dr. RashmiKodikal, Prof. Ramesh K.G, Prof. GayathriShetty and Prof. RidhvikaShetty. Fifty-one students travelled to Goa to explore the nuances of real corporate world. A two day tour was chalked out in the Verna Industrial Area.

Verna Industrial Area is the most prominent industrial hub of Goa housing 7000 small scale industrial units and more than 150 large and medium scale industries.

On Day One, students had the opportunity to visit GMI ZarhakMoulders Private Ltd, which is a rotomoulding manufacturing company. It manufactures and markets the well-known SHAKTI Brand of water tanks, loft tanks, barrels successfully. These are the No.1 brand of water tanks in the Goan market, known for their good quality and superior design.

The company supervisor described the manufacturing process at GMI and answered the queries of the students. Day Two of the tour began with avisit to IFB Industries Ltd. IFB is one of the premier organizations, well known for its innovation and technology in its chosen fields of business activities. IFB excels in quality andservices to be in consonance with global standards. Ms. FiluMonteiro, HR at IFB welcomed the students to the premise and explained the history and the end to end processes at the shop floor.

The students were given a lot of insight into making of products at the shop floor and were allowed to stroll around the factory area to witness the making of the appliances.

The second destination after IFB was Hindusthan Coca Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd. Ms. Lisa Pias, HR addressed the students and briefed about the products, processes and safety norms. Students walked around the factory area and observed the manufacturing and packaging at the premises.

The industrial visit was agreeably a boon to the students as they gained hands on experience of how industry operations are executed. It also allowed bridging the gap between theoretical training and practical learning in the real life environment.

Mr. Ankith S. Kumar, Student Counsellor, provided information about the originof Malaria, its causes, symptoms, treatment and prevention. The objective of the program was to build awareness among the students about the deadly disease and help them prevent it.

MBA Faculty invited as resource person by Srinivas Institute of Management Studies

MBA-Faculty-invited-as-resource-person-by--Srinivas-Institute-of-Management-Studies With a view to orient MBA students to prepare them for using different learning arenas and stimulate co-operation within working and business life, an “Entrepreneurship skill development program” was organized at Srinivas Institute of Management Studies in association with Pranava Souharda Sahakari Ltd. KSCA Mangaluru Zone Inter-district League at Sahyadri Cricket Ground

KSCA-Mangaluru-Zone-Inter-district-League-at-Sahyadri-Cricket-Ground KSCA Mangaluru Zone Inter-district League was organized by Dakshina Kannada Cricket Association in Sahyadri Cricket ground. This is a Five-Day inter-District cricket tournament which would be held during 1st May to 5th May, 2018 at. A total of 12 teams from Mangaluru zone are participating in this tournament. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Devdas Hegde, Trustee, Bhandary Foundation; Mr. Jayaraj Muttu, Mangaluru Zone Cricket Coach; Mr. Sadanand H S, Director of Sports and Physical Education Directors attended the inaugural function.
