Sahyadri opens its door to the new Principal Dr. Srinivasa Rao Kunte Sahyadri opens its door to the new Principal Dr. Srinivasa Rao Kunte Dr. Srinivasa Rao Kunte has joined Sahyadri as a new Principal. Dr. Kunte comes with a vast 29 years of experience in Administration, 36 years of teaching experience which includes 19 years of experience in Research. He has received his Doctorate Degree in Character Recognition from University of Mysore. He is also a 1st rank holder in M. Tech (Industrial Electronics) from University of Mysore. Prior to Sahyadri, Dr. Kunte was working as a Professor at the Department of Electronics & Communication at Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering, Shivamogga. He has also served as a Principal for 9 years in JNN College of Engineering, Shivamogga. He has to his credit more than 35 research publications in reputed international and national journals and conferences. Dr. Kunte has supervised and guided PhD scholars and M.Tech research Projects. He is a member of the COMEDK Executive Council. He is presently the academic senate member of VTU and Chairman of BOS in E&C/TC board of VTU. He is the reviewer for International Journal of American Society of Science and Engineering USA and has also reviewed papers for several conferences along with chairing the sessions. Dr. Srinivasa Rao Kunte is associated with many reputed Professional Organizations. He is the Member of IEEE (Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) USA, IETE (Institution of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers) and a Life member of ISTE (Indian Society for Technical Education). He was instrumental in acquiring many AICTE grants and Projects for the college and also worked as Principal Co-ordinator for AICTE funded projects. JNNCE witnessed many developmental and innovative activities during Dr. Kunte’s tenure.

Dr. Srinivasa Rao Kunte will take over the role of Principal from his predecessor Dr. Umesh M Bhushi effective 10th May’18 and Dr. Bhushi has been elevated to the role of Director – Strategic Planning and will be involved in core administrative task. Sahyadri family welcomes Dr. Srinivas Rao Kunte as the Principal and also congratulates Dr. Umesh M Bhushi for his new role.

Dignitary from Haryana visits Sahyadri Dignitary from Haryana visits Sahyadri Sahyadri had the honour of hosting an esteemed guest Shri Randeep Singh Surjewala from Haryana.

Shri Randeep Singh Surjewala is an Indian politician and a member of Indian National Congress. He is a MLA in the Haryana State Legislature and a former ministerin Haryana cabinet. As of December 2017, Surjewala is one of the official spokespersons of Indian National Congress.

Shri Surjewala met with Mr Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation and visited the various departments of Sahyadri and their respective innovative centres. He was fascinated with the infrastructure and alsothe student-centric initiatives undertaken by the college. He had words of praise for the unique education system established at Sahyadri.

Shri Surjewala believes that cumulation of small humble efforts by different individuals/organizations can help achieve major milestones. Sahyadri has surpassed his idea of a perfect education institute.

Last but not least, Shri Surjewala was happy he took time to visit and lauded the chairman on his excellent commitment towards building such a great institute. Shri U.M. Bhushi, Principal was also present during this fruitful interaction.

Students from Dept. of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) won first and second in “TECHNO PAPER” (Paper Presentation) event at NEBULUS-2018, National Level Fest organized by AHM’s Anjuman Institute of Technology and Management, Bhatkal. The project paper titled - “Smart Technology for PCB Defect Detection and Classification” authored by Ms. Eesha Poonja A and Ms. Krathika K Amin won first place the project paper titled - “Detection of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia using Image Processing” authored by Ms. Kavya and Ms. Krithi B Shetty won second place under the guidance of Prof. Akshatha D and Prof. Roopashree, Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering.

Placement Head addresses the 1st year MBAs to set expectations for the upcoming Recruitment Drives

Placement-Head-addresses-the-1st-year-MBAs As the 1st year MBA students are heading towards their 3rd semester and the recruiting firms will be keen on visiting Sahyadri for Campus placements effective August this year, it was imperative to set expectations with the students on the Corporate requirements. While addressing the students, Ms. Rashmi Bhandary, Placement Head advised the need to upskill as the expectation has doubled. She encouraged students to take up paid internships and even work part-time or during weekends. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal also spoke to the students and highlighted the expectations of Dressing, Attitude & Communication which needs to be practiced today itself which will be displayed on the day of interview, hence it is not required to put a mask for the sake of interview. He stimulated the students to put the best foot forward anywhere in life.

Campus Recruitment Drive – UniCourt

Campus Recruitment Drive – UniCourt UniCourt conducted a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the engineering students of 2018 outgoing batch. A recruitment team headed by Mr. Prashant Shenoy, Director, Mr. Sagar Vaidya, Sr. Team Lead & Mr. Shafuwan Ebrahim, Team Lead were at the campus to facilitate the entire process. A total of 99 students attended the drive & the results are awaited.

Steven L. Fernandes dedicates his first technical book to students Dr. Steven L. Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, currently pursuing his Post-Doctoral Research at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Alabama Birmingham, USA dedicates his first technical book "Raspberry Pi 3 Cookbook for Python Programmers - Third Edition" to Sahyadri students. He has thanked the management, faculty and staff members of the institute for their continued support. This book is an extended version of Packt’s bestselling book "Raspberry Pi for Python Programmers - Second Edition" written by Mr. Tim Cox who lives in England.

In this book readers will learn to set up and run Raspberry Pi 3, build text classifiers and perform automation using Python, predict sentiments in words and create games and graphics, detect edges and contours in images, build human face detection and recognition system, use Python to drive hardware, sense and display real-world data, build a neural network module for optical character recognition and movie recommendations system.

Campus Recruitment Drive - GRE Edge

Campus Recruitment Drive - GRE Edge GRE Edge conducted a Pool Campus Recruitment drive for the shortlisted students of 2018 outgoing batch. Mr. Anand Kannan, Managing Director accompanied by Mr. Hariharan Mourougan, Asst. Manager, Talent Acquisition from the recruitment team were at the campus to facilitate the entire process. A total of 68 students attended the drive & the final results are awaited.


MBAs visit EY and SEBI, Mumbai along with mentors as a part of Industry-Academia Interface

Securities and Exchange Board of India MBA students along with their mentors visited Ernst & Young, a Business consulting firm in Mumbai and also Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) as a part of Industry-Academia Interface. At SEBI, students had an opportunity to interact with Mr. Vikas, the Assistant General Manager who shared a power point presentation about their organization, Functions of SEBI Act 1992, aspects of Financial Wellbeing – Health, Wealth and Happiness and also about Mutual Funds. Mr. Vikas informed students that they can apply for Jobs at SEBI through SEBI website and attend interview on receiving the call letter.

Ernst & Young At Ernst & Young, Mr. Dilpesh Chouhan, Senior Manager gave a presentation about their organization and how EY is different from other organizations in their approach towards employees. He also mentioned of the future requirements at EY for MBAs and gave a heads up about the Job role and the specification required for that role which the students can start preparing themselves if interested to build their career at EY.

Students have not only been able to visit corporate houses and interact with the senior level managers during the two days but have also gained the experience of travelling to a city that most of them have not been in the past, interact with the Mumbaikars, get acquainted with their culture, language, food, standard of living and also explore Mumbai as a career option.

An International Educationist interacts with the MBAs An International Educationist interacts with the MBAs Mr. A H Sagar, Scientific Researcher, Soft Skills Trainer and a National Sports-Person visited Sahyadri and addressed the MBA students and staff on the topic – “Impact of Neo Liberal Policy on Economy”. Mr. Sagar is an MA in Philosophy of Science/Social Science/Humanities, University College, UK; Master of Science in Education and Educational Philosophy, University of Edinburgh, UK; Master of Arts in English Literature, Kuvempu University. He is also a qualified TESOL.

In his talk, he mentioned that Public Relations (PR) was a mode to sell products during earlier days, however these days they are a mode to promote the Prime Ministers and Presidents. He urged the faculty to prepare students for asking ethical questions that will lead to further more questions for research. He said prepare them for the uncertain future by making them critical and independent thinkers. He also highlighted the Myths about one’s own culture and stimulated students to break the myth and pick up the best aspects from different cultures and practice this mix of cultures as your own culture. He brought to light that we give a lot of importance to superficiality and forget what is important. During the session he touched upon the aspects of Education, Research, Behaviourism, Cognitivism, Teaching Pedagogy & Externalities of Economics.

Sahyadri Student Support 24x7 Helpline launched

Sahyadri Student Support 24x7 Helpline launched Sahyadri believes in providing overall support for the welfare of its students. It wants to create an environment of comfort and serenity. With an objective of giving continued psycho-social support to the students, Dr. U.M. Bhushi, Principal, launched a 24x7 Support Helpline.

This Helpline provides counseling and telephone support, and caters to the emotional needs in times of personal and social crises,therebycreating healthy environment for the students to grow. Student or staff facing personal, emotional, academic and work–related problems can send SMS or call the Helpline Number +91 9449845945 and get help. The Helpline will be active w.e.f. 8th May 2018.

The Helpline is equipped to offer counselling and also help address problems related to studies, work, bridging gaps in family relationships, adjustment problems, medical consultation, health advice, suicide prevention, addiction and other emotional problems.

The motto is “Don’t bea silent sufferer, talk it out andseek help”. Total confidentiality is guaranteed by the Counsellor!

Sahyadri celebrates the College Day Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies (SIMS)conducted a Campus Recruitment Drive for the engineering students of 2018 outgoing batch. Mr. Sandesh S, HR/Admission Officer accompanied by Mr. N. S.Soman, Dean - Engineering and Mr. Prasad Godbole,Engineering Faculty from the SIMS recruitment team were at the campus to facilitate the entire process. A total of 32 shortlisted students were interviewed. Final results are awaited.

Sahyadri signs MoU with Father Muller Hospital, Thumbay

Sahyadri signs MoU with Father Muller Hospital, Thumbay To provide holistic health care services for the staff and students of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, the institution has entered into a Memorandum of understanding with Father Muller Hospital, Thumbay. With this arrangement, Father Muller Hospital will provide services of medical and allied health personnel to the institution as and when required, provide consultation and admission facility for the students and staff of Sahyadri on credit basis, offer Out-patient services once a week from 09:00am to 01:00pm at our campus, provide ambulance facility and also health card to avail health care service at a discount. The students and staff are requested to make the best use of this service. The out-patient doctor’s consultation once a week will be provided at the Ground floor Health centre. Engineering Student pledged to donate all her Organs

Ms. Meghana S Bangera, a student of Computer Science and Engineering has pledged to donate all her organs. She has registered herself as a donor with the Government Nodel Organ Donation Agency under the supervision and guidance of Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor. Sahyadri is proud of this heroic gesture and applauds her decision.
