Eighth Graduation Day Celebrated in the Campus The Eighth Graduation Day for the graduating students of Bachelor of Engineering & M.Tech 2017-18 was held in the Campus. 840 students took an oath and received their graduation certificates from the Guests - Mr. S Rajesh Chandran, Vice President, Talent Acquisition, ITC Infotech India Limited, Bengaluru and Dr. H.N. Jagannatha Reddy, Registrar, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi. Around 1,000 parents and relatives of the students were present to witness their children graduate on this special occasion.

Mr. S Rajesh Chandran holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering. He comes with 25+ years of experience in IT products and services across India. He is a Certified Customer Centricity Trainer & PAPI assessment member.

Jagannatha Reddy prior to being the Registrar of VTU was a Professor of Civil Engineering and also a PG Coordinator for M.Tech in Structural Engineering at Bangalore Institute of Technology, Bangalore. He has a very strong Academic, Administrative and Research experience. His Research areas are Rehabilitation and Retrofitting of existing Reinforced Concrete structures using Natural and Artificial Fiber Reinforced Polymers.

The Graduation Day was declared open followed by the distribution of certificates to the graduating students and oath taking.

Mr. S Rajesh Chandran congratulated the Graduates and briefed them regarding their duties being a graduate.

He emphasized on creating a brand of one’s self, being the master of one subject, being passionate towards whatever one does maintaining a healthy mind and body, have a positive attitude towards life, go back to the source & integrity

Dr. H.N. Jagannatha Reddy congratulated the students and spoke about the importance of teamwork.

Two of the graduating students shared the experiences of their time spent in the Campus and expressed their gratitude to their alma mater. The formal function was followed by a photography session.

AICTE Model Curriculum for BE-First Year Courses AICTE Model Curriculum for BE-First Year Courses Over 600 faculty who teach 1st year Engineering from various colleges of Mysore and Mangalore Region attended the One-Day Workshop organized by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi on “AICTE Model Curriculum for BE-First Year Courses” at Sahyadri. Honourable Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University Dr. K Byrappa, Registrar of VTU Dr. H.N Jagannath Reddy, BOS Chairman of Basic Sciences & Engineering Board were present during the occasion. The topics related to Outcome Based Education, Course Outcome and Blooms Taxonomy were dealt with during the day long workshop.

ISRO Scientists visit Caliper & qualify it for Welding to ISRO

ISRO Scientists visit Caliper ISRO Scientists visited Caliper, a Mechanical Engineering Start-up Company in Sahyadri during 9th to 10th May’18 to evaluate & qualify Caliper for speciality welding in Stainless Steel, Titanium & Aluminium materials. They were fascinated & impressed with the facilities, including robotic welding station. While evaluating, they also shared their vast experience in welding space components. Caliper is qualified for welding for ISRO as well as providing trained welders to ISRO for their in-house welding jobs. This is good news to young aspiring mechanical engineering students of Sahyadri to pursue high tech welding career.

Since 2013, globally recognized 'Techpreneurs' have been showcasing the latest innovations across a wide range of technologies at the annual editions of ITC. The 6th edition of ITC-2018 is based on the theme “Technology First: Make India Innovate, Excel Globally and Prosper”.

Pool Campus Recruitment Drive by Alembic Pharmaceuticals Mr. Chandrahas Shetty, Sr. Vice President, Human Resources; Mr. Arvind Tripathi, DGM – HR; Mr. Vishwas Hebbar, Sales Manager, Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd., visited Sahyadri to conduct a pool campus recruitment drive for MBA students. A total of 79 students from various colleges attended the drive.

Mr. A. H. Sagar, Scientific Researcher, Soft Skills Trainer and a National Sports-Person was the Chief Guest. He shared his experiences and advised the students to convert their Passion into Profession. Prof S. S. Balakrishna, Vice-Principal in his address eulogised the association for its work and wished all the outgoing students a bright future. Prof. Mahesh B. Davangeri, HOD, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering in his presidential address appreciated the students for their hard work in academics as well as in extra-curricular activities.

The outgoing students shared the experiences of their years spent at Sahyadri. The achievers in academics and extra-curricular activities were felicitated. After the formal function a cultural programme with games entertained the gathering.

Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration welcomed the gathering and enlisted the achievements of the department. Ms. Kshama Hegde read out the annual report and briefed the audience on the events conducted by Sahyadri Management Students Association for the year 2017-2018. Prof. Padmanabha, Academic Coordinator announced the achievers of the year and the students were felicitated under 11 different categories.

The outgoing students shared their experience and expressed their gratitude to the faculty members, Director, the institution and the Chairman for making their journey wonderful. The junior students also organized a cultural programme to entertain the gathering and made it a day to remember.

Valedictory Ceremony of SPACE Valedictory Ceremony of SPACE SPACE, the student association of Department of Civil Engineering held its Valedictory Ceremony. Mr. Satya Sai Kumar Jillella, Director, MIT SOG World Peace University, Professor (SOG, Civil Engineering and Management), MIT-World Peace University, Pune was the Chief Guest. He presented a talk on “Success Mantra- Be a Civil Engineer by habit and practice”. During his talk he said that the institutes are like mirrors - They reflect what you are. It is for us to learn or show passion to be an engineer. Sustainability is the next big opportunity and need of the hour is sustainable city thinking. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Director - Strategy and Planning in his address advised the students to bring a change in themselves only then can we bring change in the society. Dr. R Srinivas Rao Kunte, Principal addressed the students on the occasion. It was his first address to the students since he joined the institute as Principal. He advised the students to prosper in their future and be a good brand ambassador of the institute.

Mr. Amith Prabhu, Founding Dean of SCoRe interacts with the MBAs Mr. Amith Prabhu, Founding Dean of SCoRe interacts with the MBAs Mr. Amith Prabhu, a Reputation Management professional with 16 years of experience both at consultancies and in-house, having worked with pioneering companies in India and the USA visited Sahyadri & addressed the students and staff of Dept. of Business Administration on the topic - “Public Relations in Business Management”.

Mr. Prabhu is a graduate in Academic Law and a post-graduate in Communication Management. He has a certificate in Marketing Strategy from Harvard University. Amith ran Zero Hour Strategies - India's only communications firm exclusively for Members of Parliament and Chief Ministers for a year before setting up the School of Communications & Reputation (SCoRe), Gurgaon. At SCoRe he was appointed its first Dean by the investors.

During his session, Mr. Amith shared his real life experiences on how he worked towards getting into “Reputation & Communication” course at Symbiosis University. He also shared his success story on obtaining a Two-Month internship through his perseverance and became the 1st intern in the Indian Congress Party. He even managed to get a part-time internship for Obama’s Campaign in the United States of America. With all these experiences, his ultimate goal for life was to work in a foreign country for 2 years and then apply the learning outcomes in the home country. While concluding the session, he stressed on the 4 C’s of Public Relations (PR) – Content Creation, Connect to Stakeholders, Crisis Management and Counselling Leadership which forms the key to any organization.

Civil Engineering Department Civil Engineering Department For the outgoing batch of Dept. of Civil Engineering, a farewell function was organised by the junior students of the department. Mr. Sunil Kumar K, Head of the Department welcomed the students. Ms. Ramya. K, SPACE co-ordinator gave the annual report about the events organized by Sahyadri Pupils Association of Civil Engineering during the academic year 2017-18. Chief Guest of the occasion - Dr. Premanand Shenoy, Department of Civil Engineering addressed the outgoing students. He said apart from academics, students have been nurtured in other fields too. This will make them versatile when they graduate from the institute. After stepping out from the institute, students must look after their health along with wealth. Ms. Ramya K, SPACE co-ordinator announced the achievers in various categories and they were felicitated with a memento. Few outgoing students and faculty shared the memories of the institute to cherish in their future.

Mechanical Engineering Faculty Successfully defends PhD Thesis

Ravindra Babu G Mr. Ravindra Babu G, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering successfully defended his PhD thesis on “Study of the influence of heat treatment parameters on the mechanical and tribological properties of grain refined and modified gravity cast Al-Si-Mg alloy A356 reinforced with boron carbide particles” under Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU). His Research supervisor was Dr. Girish D P, Professor and Head, GEC Ramanagar. The outcome of his thesis produced many International Journal Publications.

Dr. Manjappa invited to join the Academic Advisory Committee of the ITC-2018

Dr. Manjappa Indian Technology Congress Association (ITCA) and the Professional Societies are organizing ITC-2018 during 05-06 September 2018 at the NIMHANS Convention Centre, Bengaluru and have identified Dr. S Manjappa Sarathi, Director – R&D as an Industry Leader whose views and opinions are well-received by the industry. He has been invited to join the Academic Advisory Committee and share his valuable feedback on strengthening ITC-2018 to deliver value to all stakeholders.

Mohammad Saleem, Pooja Naik, Mohammad Naseer, Amitha Melita Dcruz, Ashik Anilkumar, Pavitra Tukaram Mesta, Shashanka Shankartootha Shankaranarayana, Deevitha Ganesh, Mohammed Shakeer, Prajwala Kadambar were selected by KPMG-GDC in this drive conducted for the 2018 outgoing batch.

World Hypertension Day May 17, 2018 is observed as World Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) Day and to commemorate this day, Sahyadri Health and Counselling Centre will organize a week-long free BP check up camp for all staff and students effective May 17th’18.

Student Counsellor conducts Life Skill training Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor conducted a Half-Day Life Skill training programme for Second PUC Science students of Shree Bharathi Pre-University College, Nanthoor. The training programme was a Community outreach initiative by the Department of Business Administration to help colleges and students provide quality education and make learning fun for the students. Mr. Ankith S Kumar conducted an activity-based life skill training session for the students to create self-awareness, build critical thinking ability, improve interpersonal and other skills.

Hybritic Informatics Pvt Ltd Hybritic Informatics Pvt Ltd. conducted a pool campus recruitment drive for the engineering students of 2018 outgoing batch. Mr. Yadav P, Director accompanied by Mr. Krishna Chaitanya, Operation Manager, Mr. R. Das, Technical Head & Mr. Mohammed Rabi from the recruitment team were at the campus to facilitate the entire process. A total of 21 students attended the drive & the results are awaited.
