Chairman meets former Tennis Champion Mary Pierce Eleventh edition of the TCS World 10K Marathon was held on Sunday the 27th of May 2018 in Bengaluru. Ms Mary Pierce was the ambassador of this mega event. Ms Pierce has won four Grand Slam titles: two in Singles, one in Doubles and one in Mixed Doubles. Her Grand Slam Singles title came in the recent past. She is the last French player, to win the Singles title. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation was a part of the event. On meeting Ms Pierce, he said that career story of Ms Pierce inspired the runners of the World 10K.
This event is a great way to increase TCS' engagement with the community, raise funds for charity as well as create societal awareness about the necessity of good health and fitness.

Ms. Deeksha Bhandary, daughter of Mr. Manjunath Bhandary was also a part of the event. Ms. Spatika, a friend and classmate of Ms. Deeksha at Rishi Valley School, was present. Ms. Spatika is now into modeling and has been crowned as Miss Hyderabad. Her aim is to become Miss Universe.

Likewise, various celebrities took part in the event and ran for a noble cause.

Dr. Molly Chaudhuri attends the District 92 Annual Conference of Toastmasters Dr. Molly Chaudhuri attends the District 92 Annual Conference of Toastmasters Dr Molly Chaudhuri, HoD Training and Area Director of Area F1 of Toastmasters International attended the District 92 Annual Conference, “Coronation 2018”held at the Holiday Inn Kochi, from 25th to 27th May 2018. The Conference was attended by over 400 toastmaster members from across Karnataka and Kerala.

The chief guests at the inaugural session were Mr. A P M Mohamed Hanish IAS, MD, Kochi Metro Rail Ltd, Chairman & MD, Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation, and CEO of Cochin Smart Mission Ltd. Theguests of honour were DTM Derek Wong, International Director of Region 13 of Toastmasters International,Hongkong and TM Mohammed alQahtani, the World champion of Public Speaking from Saudi Arabia.

The highlights of the conference were:
a) Elections of the new district 92 top committee and various district officers for 2018-19
b) Educational programmes by renowned speakers like Ms. ShaliniWarrier, COO, The Federal Bank Ltd; Dr. SajiGopinath, IIMK, CEO, Kerala Startup Mission; Dr. Ushy Mohandas, Founder CEO & Principal Mind Coach, Dr. Ushy’s Wisdom Works, and
c) The district awards for the current year.

Dr. Molly Chaudhuri attends the District 92 Annual Conference of Toastmasters Dr. Molly Chaudhuri was awarded the Area Director Award for her service to the Toastmasters District 92.The District level international speech contests and table topics contest were also conducted. The first place winner will contest in the semifinal contests, against 110 other contestants. Thbe contestants are from 110 districts of 140 countries around the world. This will be held at Chicago, Illinois, USA in August 2018.

Sahyadri Faculty & Students volunteer at “Chetana” Programme, Infosys Campus, Mangaluru

Chetana “Chetana” - Empowering Girls with Technology was launched by the Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka, to nurture and mentor the local talent and empower them with high end technology. The aim of the programme is to provide wings to their dreams. With this aim, the Department, in association with Samsung & Infosys foundation enable girl students who have topped in Secondary School Examination from Government Schools across Karnataka. They handhold them to educate, empower, mentor and support them. These highly talented girls from Karnataka are invited to a week-long residential camp where they are presented with a Samsung Tab each and then provided hands-on training to use it.

This year, “Chetana” was held in Infosys, Mudipu Campus, Mangaluru with 300 best achievers in academic profile undergoing residential training. Various activities were planned during the course of this camp like training sessions to use the tab, exposure to state-of-the-art facility at Infosys and other industry campuses in Mangaluru, group building exercises, sports events, design thinking workshops, movie shows, nature walks, yoga sessions, interaction session with leaders from various domains like science, technology, arts, medicine, sports etc.

Chetana Sahyadri Faculty & students have volunteered to assist in the smooth conduct of the programme. The event coordinators from Department of IT, BT and S&T are in praises for the additional support rendered by Sahyadri as volunteers to cater to the needs of the students who have come from various districts of Karnataka.

Sahyadri joins hands with the Government to protect the environment In commemoration of World Environment Day 2018, Department of Civil Engineering and NSS unit of our institution in collaboration with Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Govt. of India, Govt. of Karnataka, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, KVAFSU - College of Fisheries, Mangaluru and the District Administration, Dakshina Kannada District initiated a Five-Day Beach Cleaning Programme from 1st June to 5th June, 2018 at Panamburu Beach. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. S M Shivaprakash, Dean of College of Fisheries, Mangaluru after which the faculty and students from Sahyadri participated in the “Beat the Plastic Pollution” initiative by removing the plastic garbage and litters from the beach.

This event was organized and Coordinated by Dr. S Manjappa, Director - Research & Consultancy, Prof. Sunil Kumar, HoD, Prof. Anil Kumar and Prof. Sanjith, Department of Civil Engineering.

Day Two of Beach Cleaning Programme Day Two of Beach Cleaning Programme During the Day Two of Beach Cleaning Programme in commemoration of World Environment Day, cleaning was carried out at Tannirbavi beach by Faculty from all departments along with Second year MBA students. The students from Vidyadhini Word Trend and Kavoor Govt School along with their teachers also participated in the programme. Programme started with Academic Administrative Officer, Ms. Shreelatha U.A. addressing the crowd about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene to be maintained at the beach. With all enthusiasm and self-motivation each and every individual involved themselves in cleaning activity.

Guest Lecture for MBAs on “Online Filing of Income Tax & Impact of GST”

Online Filing of Income Tax Ms. Yashashwini K Amin, Chartered Account delivered a talk to the final year MBA Finance students on the topic "Online Filing of Income Tax & Impact of GST". Ms. Yashashwini is one of the youngest practicing Chartered Accounts in Mangaluru who has cleared the CA exams in first attempt and has received a Gold Medal for scoring the highest marks in Financial Accounting.

During the session she enlightened the students about how GST has resulted in better tax collection over the year, she dwelled on the nitty gritty of implementation of GST using live examples. The session incorporated technicalities related to tax filing using various softwares like winman, saral etc. The talk concluded with an interactive Question & Answer session.

Officials of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), UK visited Sahyadri

Officials of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Representatives from a globally reputed accounting body visited the campus to explore collaboration opportunities benefiting the students through various certification programmes leading to a globally recognized designation. The Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation is powered by AICPA (The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants) and CIMA, two of the world's leading accounting organizations.

Mr. Kishan Sathyan, Manager - South India Markets, CIMA along with his team had a preliminary discussion with Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director–MBA & Mr. Guruprasad Rao Y, Dean-Branding & Promotion in the presence of Finance faculty of the department. The institute is all set to sign an important collaboration with CIMA to take the discussion ahead.

Dean-Branding & Promotion meets the Director of NISM, Mumbai to set up “Centre of Financial Studies” at the MBA Department

Officials of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Mr. Guru Prasad Rao, Dean - Branding & Promotion visited National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), Mumbai, an educational institute promoted by Security and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). A meeting was arranged with Dr. M Thenmozi, Director of NISM and Prof. Sukumaran, Dean Academics and Financial Literacy Programmes of NISM.

The discussion has resulted in setting up of "Centre for Financial Studies" at the Dept. of Business Administration in Sahyadri Campus. NISM will launch several certification programmes on Stock Markets and on the current trending topics.

Officials of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Mr. Rao also visited the Head Quarters of Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), wherein a proposal will be submitted shortly to set up a SIDBI chair at the Dept. of Business Administration in Sahyadri Campus which will focus towards executing social projects and encouraging entrepreneurship among the rural youths in coordination with SIDBI.

The above projects will be executed under the leadership and guidance of Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA.
