The day started early this morning with Guruji’s Satsangh for the Sahyadri Fraternity. Chairman - Mr. Manjunath Bhandary expressed his delight with the presence of Guruji in the campus and said that Sahyadri has been receiving blessings through guests from all over the place unexpectedly since its inception and hence Sahyadri gets its sanctity and good vibes from time to time.

TechVision-2019 The inauguration of Techvision 2019 – ‘Elevate 50’ kick started with a brief introduction regarding SPSS as to how it has been evolved over the years. Dr. Sandhya R Anvekar, Program Head Skilling, Karnataka Education & Technology Society (KITS), Department of IT & BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka inaugurated the event. In the introduction, a gist on how SPSS has been restructured to accommodate various ideas of SSTH which further leads to NAIN Projects and later to Start-ups was highlighted. A road map to innovation at Sahyadri and various activities planned for the execution of the same like SSTH, Social Innovation Projects and Hands-on Lab were presented before the guests and the gathering.

Dr. Sandhya in her address put forth before the audience various schemes available under KITS which could be beneficial for the engineering students to acquire a seed amount to initiate a start-up. Dr. Sandhya also highlighted on how one could procure funding from NAIN for projects which have credibility to address problems of societal concern. Dr. Sandhya congratulated the management for providing extremely superior infrastructure to incubate the ideas of students which could facilitate them to become successful entrepreneurs in the near future. She also mentioned that the start-ups, the projects being pursued in the campus and the facilities provided are of great standards and match up to the expectations of NAIN regulations which could make Sahyadri competitive enough to be addressed as the focal point of innovation.

Mr. Uday Birje, Co-founder & Director, Thinkstreet Technologies addressed the gathering and spoke about the five main attributes required for a start-up which includes Idea, Passion, Hardwork, Risk taking capacity and Focus. He stimulated the students to take up challenges and work on it.

Mr. Vikram Rai, Co-founder of Vitor Health Science Pvt Ltd addressed the gathering and congratulated the management and students for imbibing innovation as a part and parcel of the study.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation, in his address re-iterated the prime objective of introducing project-based learning at Sahyadri which intends to identify the root cause of a problem, find an idea to address it and analyze the relevant and optimistic solution for it. Dr. R Srinivass Rao Kunte, Principal proposed the vote of thanks.

Concluding Day of Techvision 2019 – ‘Elevate 50’ Concluding Day of Techvision 2019 – ‘Elevate 50’ During the Valedictory Ceremony, Prof. Uday Birje appreciated the energy and enthusiasm of students and the staff during the Two-Day event. Mr. Suryanarayanan, Start up India (Atal Innovation Mission, mentor NITI Ayog) appreciated and congratulated all the participants of Elevate - 50. Prof. Madhukar Waware, Deputy Director, AICTE e-Governance Cell, while addressing the gathering, appreciated Sahyadri’s initiatives in Technical Education for meeting the expectations of AICTE well in advance. Professor was impressed by the practical exposure given to the students by the college parallel to theoretical knowledge. He also gave some valuable suggestions to the students for participating in events like Smart India Hackathon. He urged the students to visit rural areas and solve the problems faced by the people.

Talk on “Startup to Scaleup” - How to start a start-up by Prof. Uday Birje, Mentor for Change, Attal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, Govt. of India

Techvison-2019-Startup-to-Scaleup Techvison-2019-Startup-to-Scaleup Prof. Birje addressed the Elevate-50 participants on the importance of start-ups. Firstly, he shared an inspiring video of Sundar Pichhai about start-up. While addressing the students, Professor mentioned the importance of startup in IT and non-IT fields. He urged the students to be job creators rather than job seekers for which one should be innovative in their thinking. He also gave insights about the key factors which are necessary for the success of any start up. The overall talk had an essence on how to convert their idea to a start-up and how to scale it up.

Inauguration of Reclaim 2k19 Inauguration of Reclaim 2k19 Reclaim 2k19 inaugural function was done by Chief Guest Ms. Vindhya Nayak, Structural Engineer, GKW consult GmbH. The Guest of Honour was Mr. Chinmayabharan M R, Site Engineer, Garden City Realty Pvt. Ltd, Bengaluru.

Chief Guest Ms. Vindhya Nayak G urged the students to take up learning process seriously and wished the students good luck for their future. Guest of Honour Mr. Chinmayabharan M R (Alumnus of 2016-17 Pass out) in his address spoke about the role of teachers of Sahyadri in moulding the life of students. He thanked lecturers of Sahyadri for the constant support and encouragement, stated that he was fortunate to have received such teachers. Mr. Yeshwanth Shetty, Actor of Soojidaara was also present in the function and praised Sahyadri for its wonderful infrastructure. Mr. Abhijit Kotegar (Producer of Movie Soojidara) was also present during the programme.

Dept. of Civil Engineering observes Earth Day 2019 Dept. of Civil Engineering observes Earth Day 2019 Department of Civil Engineering commemorates Earth Day 2019 with the theme "Protect our species". The chief guest of the function was Sri P Shridhar, Range Forest Officer, Mangaluru. The programme was presided by the Principal Dr. R Srinivas Rao Kunte. The function was inaugurated by the Chief Guest by watering the sapling.

Sri P Shridhar, in his address, highlighted the importance of saving trees and also emphasized on the fact that human beings have irrevocably upset the balance of nature and as a result, the world is facing the greatest rate of extinction. He also explained the role of engineers in saving environments and affecting sustainable development. He stated that engineers should use creativity, technology, and scientific knowledge to solve practical problems for a sustainable ecosystem.

The function then proceeded with the ceremonial series of the planting of the sapling in the Campus. The primary objective of this initiative was to make the environment a greener place to live in. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman; Mr. Devdas Hegde-Trustee, Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director of Research and Mr. Sunil Kumar, Head of Civil Engineering Dept were also present during this significant event.

The Chief Guests were Ms. Manu Bhat, Senior Software Engineer at Intel and Mr. Suhas Shetty, Managing Director at DEV APPSYS IT SOLUTIONS PVT LTD Mangaluru.

The team of “Sooji Dara” including Abhijith, the Producer of the film, also attended the inaugural function and lauded the college events taking place as a part of COGNIT 2019. His message to the students was to follow their dreams and achieve them.

Alumnus of Civil Engineering ventures into Movie Making – Sooji Daara, a Suspense Thriller in Kannada Mr. Shashidhar Hegde, Ex-Mayor visits Sahyadri Sooji Daara, a Suspense Romantic Thriller in Kannada is all set to release on May 10th’2019 in whole of Karnataka produced by Mr. Abhijith Kotegar, an alumnus of Civil Engineering Department (Batch 2009 – 2013). After his Engineering at Sahyadri, Abhijith worked for 2 years on contract with Manipal Groups as a Civil Engineer, post which, he pursued his passion for movies. Sooji Daara, starring Hari Priya and Yeshwanth Shetty in the lead role is the dream project of Abhijith. He was at the campus to seek blessings and good wishes from the Chairman – Mr Manjunath Bhandary for the success of his movie. Abhijith can also be seen performing in a negative role in the same movie.

Invited Talk on “Research Methodology” for Faculty Invited Talk on “Research Methodology” for Faculty Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering organized an invited talk to Faculty members on “Research Methodology” facilitated by Dr. Basavraj Talawar. Dr. Basavraj Talawar completed his PhD from IISC Bangalore, presently working as a, Asst Professor in the Dept of Computer Science & Engineering at NITK Suratkal. He presented the importance of research and attributes of a good researcher. He specified the objectives of the Research work, Environment or Context of the research problem. He also focused on how to write a research paper, the various sections of a paper, the importance of tables, figures and mathematical representation, simulations, results and discussions. He spoke on the importance of conferences and journals too. He concluded his talk by suggesting to publish the research work in SCI & SCOPUS indexed journals. The overall session was highly informative and interactive.

Mr. Surya Shekar and Mr Shridhara Avabhrath of Konkan Railway Academy were present. Mr. Surya Shekar gave an overview of Konkan Railways. In his session, Mr. Shridhara spoke extensively on the opportunities at Konkan Railways. The speakers called on students to start their own enterprise as railway contractors. The department explored possible opportunities for internships.

Director of DXC Technology delivers Guest Talk ” for Faculty Director of DXC Technology delivers Guest Talk Mr. Manoj K.P., Director, DXC Technology addressed first year MBA students on the topic “Digital Disruption - Staying Relevant”. He started his session by educating the students on "Digital" which means not just hardware part of it but way of doing things. In order to stay relevant in the digital age he gave inputs on five dimensions of digital sustainability:
• Agility -Rapid Decision Making & Execution,
• Connectivity - Consistent Collaboration,
• Discipline & Focus - Clarity on Desired Outcome,
• Empowerment & Alignment - Empowered to make decisions, and
• Openness & Transparency - Ethical practices.
Mr. Manoj spoke about the evolution from industrial age to digital age and he enlightened students on how to become digitally sustainable leaders by having the required skill sets. He also addressed the faculty members of various departments and briefed them about the role of a teacher in preparing students for the fast changing digital world.

Mr. Manoj has agreed to mentor a couple of faculty members and students on specific topics of Management studies.

Outgoing Students of Computer Science & Engineering bid farewell Outgoing Students of Computer Science & Engineering bid farewell The valedictory function for CLOUDS (Computer Legends of the Unified Department @ Sahyadri) - an association of students and faculty members of the department of Computer Science & Engineering and a farewell for the outgoing UG and PG students of 2019 batch was held in the campus. Prof. Sudheer Shetty, Dean Examination was the Guest of Honour. Dr. J V Gorabal, Head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering gave the presidential address.

On this dual occasion, annual report of the club activities was presented by Krithesh Bhandary, Vice President - CLOUDS. Awards were distributed to the class toppers and subject toppers of the Odd semester. The outgoing students and faculty members shared their experiences at Sahyadri. Ms. Pooja N.S., Staff Coordinator and Ms. Souravi, General Secretary, were also present. Cultural events were organized both by students and staff and the event was brought to successful conclusion.

Writing-Research-Paper Writing-Research-Paper In order to empower faculty in writing quality research articles to be published in SCOPUS Indexed Journals, the Dept of Business Administration-MBA in collaboration with NIPM, Mangaluru Chapter organized a Workshop on “Writing Research Paper” for Faculty. The workshop was facilitated by Prof. Nandan Prabhu, MAHE – Manipal. Mr. Divakar Kadri, Chairman-NIPM, Mangaluru Chapter was also present during the workshop.

Prof. Nandan Prabhu has 32 years of teaching experience. He did his Doctoral Research on “Transformational leadership and Workplace Spirituality: A Structural Model of Team Effectiveness.” He has published his research papers in national and international journals that are indexed in Scopus and Web of Science.

Mr. Abijeeth of GASSOL Solutions Private Limited visits Sahyadri Mr. Abijeeth of GASSOL Solutions Private Limited visited Sahyadri Campus. He interacted with the chairman and discussed about the various LPG/CNG related innovations and solutions they are working on, for improving the storage and combustion. The overall effort of GASSOL is towards taking up green initiative to have lesser impact on environment.

Mr. Abijeeth had an interaction with CALIPER and RDL for developing few products which would help them in executing their vision. He showed interest for collaboration with our students and faculties to provide solutions to societal problems.

GASSOL Solutions Private Limited was incorporated in July 2016. GASSOL began its celebrated journey in the year 1987 as a distributor for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) under the name ‘Padmashree Agencies’. They design and install the most reliable and compliant gas installations which helps reduce carbon emissions.

Mr. Shashidhar Hegde, Ex-Mayor visits Sahyadri Sahyadri is graced by the visit of Mr. Shashidhar Hegde, Ex-Mayor of Mangalore. He was accompanied by three leading business proprietors owning food outlets in and around Mangalore namely; Mr. M. Ganesh Shetty, Mr. Pradhyumna Rao and Mr. Ramananda Bhandary.

The guests interacted with the chairman who accompanied them around the campus. They visited the departmental innovation centres and the various startups and industries of Sahyadri and had deep admiration for its student-centric learning environment.

Ankit Fasteners Private Limited (AFPL) is a dedicated aerospace fasteners manufacturing company in Bangalore, India. It is a joint venture between Ankit Group, Bangalore and LISI Aerospace, Paris, France. Ankit Group has over 35 years’ experience in fastener manufacturing in India.

MBAs recruited as HR Business Partners (HRBP) at Grassroots BPO, Bengaluru Chirag Bangera, Gladna Rodrigues, Kalpitha Acharya, Rashmi, Maneesha and Ninad Joshi - Six of the Sahyadri MBA-HR students have been recruited by Grassroots BPO, Bengaluru for the position of HR Business Partner (HRBP). Mr. Ben Subbarao, Head HR & Training, who was the colleague of Prof. Sushma V in her previous organization reached out to the Department seeking candidates for his organization as they are expanding their operations to locations like Mysuru and Hyderabad.

Campus Recruitment Drive- QSpiders QSpiders conducted a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for Computer Science, Information Science and Electronics & Communication Engineering students of 2019 outgoing batch. Mr. Sharath Kumar-Manager and Mr. Shanmukh were at the campus to facilitate the process.

A total of 42 students from DK and Udupi districts participated in the drive, out of which 9 students were selected.

Campus Recruitment drive - LAM Research Corporation The LAM Research Corporation conducted Internship Drive for Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) students of 2019 outgoing batch. A team headed by Mr. Sanooj , Electrical Manager and Mr. Astron Chethan Lobo, Associate Mechanical Manager from the recruitment team were at the campus to facilitate the process. A total of 40 students from ECE participated in the drive & written test for all the registered participants is scheduled on 3rd May, 2019.

Defence approved Caliper for the manufacturing of two products

Caliper’s drive for serving high thrust sectors yielded another huge success. Defence establishment, Ordinance Factory in Chennai approved Caliper for two products. Already securing approval for six products for Defence, this time Caliper ended up with securing approval for a complete product assembly to be manufactured in Caliper.

Caliper Engineering & Lab Pvt Ltd is a start-up Company housed inside Sahyadri, which is focusing on providing students a LIVE experience in manufacturing. Caliper serves niche customers and also a happening place for students to have hands-on experience, while graduating as Engineers

Director - MBA opens Demat Account at Sahyadri Capital Advisors Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director – Department of Business Administration opens a Demat (Dematerialisation) Account. She was accompanied by Prof. Padmanabha B. and Dr. Azhar Shaheen S. Shaikh.
Sahyadri Capital Advisors LLP is a stockbroking firm established as recently as April 2019. The main aim of this firm is to facilitate students and staff of Sahyadri to invest their monies in the best possible way. Sahyadri Capital Advisors is seeking support in utilizing products and services optimally by all the stake holders of Sahyadri.
There will be an awareness programme held shortly.

MBA Faculty & Students attend Training organized by JCI Mangaluru as a part of their Business Week initiatives Prof. Sushma V along with 3 students from first year MBA attended a Training organized by JCI Mangaluru on “Business Networking & Customer Handling” as a part of their Business Week initiatives held at Ocean Pearl, Mangaluru. Jc. Venugopal, National Trainer, JCI India facilitated the training.
By attending this programme, students were exposed to professionals from various corporate organizations and were also offered to pursue internship in their company.

Department of Civil Engineering organizes Workshop Dept of Civil Engineering organizes Workshop on Scientific and Technical Research Paper writing for the faculties of Civil Engineering. The resource person was Dr. Gautam J.P., Department of Chemical Engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal. He has published papers in highly reputed journals.
In his address, Dr. Gautam emphasized the need for publishing the research papers based on the research findings to have better professional growth in the field of teaching. He educated the faculties as to how to choose a publisher and also spoke about high-quality journals, the challenges faced by an author in publishing high-quality peer-reviewed journals and how to overcome those challenges. Finally, he demonstrated the way of submitting a research paper.
Overall, the participants found the Workshop comprehensive and useful.

Alumnus of Civil Engineering interacts with students of pre-final year Mr. Nirmith Bangera interacted with the students of pre-final year civil engineering. He motivated the students to take up the learning process seriously as it would enhance the technical knowledge required for the execution of any civil engineering project. He stressed on the importance of skills and technical aspects which is required for any engineering project. He also spoke about the scope of civil engineering jobs, their salary package, and their role in civil projects.

Currently, Mr. Nirmith Bangera is pursuing construction project management (MBA- CPM) at Amity University. He has worked as Finishing engineer in Shet Creators having an experience of 1.5 years.
