CPL Season 3 organized by CATCA in association with Sahyadri Coastalwood Premier League (CPL) Season 3 was organized by CATCA in association with Sahyadri in the River Side Cricket Ground.
Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman was the Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony. In his inaugural speech, wishing the teams All the Best, he said Cricket is a Dream Game. He encouraged the team to chase this dream, enjoy the game and play with full fervor and enthusiasm. Mr. Devdas Hegde, Trustee and Mr. H.S. Sadanand – Physical Director were also present. Senior artist Mangesh Bhat, Producer Jyothika Jain from the Tulu Film Industry and Darshan Jain of ACE Promoters & Developers were also present. The chairman motivated the team by playing for a while, himself.
CPL Season 3 organized by CATCA in association with Sahyadri CPL Season 3 organized by CATCA in association with Sahyadri Cricket Premier League is conducted every year to bring unity in the Coastalwood (Tulu) Film Industry. The past tournaments have all been a huge success. There are 300+ registered members all of whom are from Tulu film industry. The lead actors and actresses of the Tulu film industry came together to make this event a great success.

Sahyadri College NSS unit conducts First NSS special camp at Kumpala Government School. Sahyadri College NSS unit conducts First NSS special camp at Kumpala Government School. The first National Service Scheme (NSS) special camp is being organized by Sahyadri College NSS unit for the NSS volunteers at Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Government Higher Primary and High School at Kumpala during 5th May, 2019 to 11th May, 2019. The Camp was inaugurated by Shri Narayana Kumpala, Founding President of Kesari Mithra Vrinda, Kumpala. Prof. Ravichandra K R, Dean-Industry Connect and Head of Dept. of Mechanical Engineering was the Chief Guest of the occasion. Shri Yadav, Member, School Development Committee; Shrimati Asha Suresh, President, Kesari Mathru Mandali; Shri Bhagavan Das, Member, Kesari Mithra Vrinda, Kumpala and Mrs Nagaveni, Headmistress, DK District Zilla Panchayat Higher primary school, Kumpala were present as guest along with Ms. Shreelatha U A, Program Coordinator, Sahyadri NSS Unit; Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor; Mr. Navin Pillar, Head of Art and Culture Department; Mr. Shreyas, ASWO and students of MBA Department.

Sahyadri College NSS unit conducts First NSS special camp at Kumpala Government School. During the camp the students will be involved in various community development projects like Renovating the School by painting it with the paints sponsored by Indigo paints and there will be free eye check up camp for the community people by Prasad Nethralaya and also pot compost demonstration by Ramakrishna Mission.

Day Two of Sahyadri NSS Camp at Kumpala Government School Day two of the NSS camp began with the flag hoisting by the Sahyadri Painting Contactor Mr. John after which the students began the painting work of the school till afternoon. Post lunch, the students had a session by Prof. Arun Ullal, St. Sebastian School, Thokkottu. He spoke about the importance of having a sense of service among the students. The day concluded with sports organized for the students.

Day Three of Sahyadri NSS Camp at Kumpala Government School Sahyadri NSS volunteers completed painting the Ground level of the School building on the Day Three. Prof. Ramesh K G, Dean-Strategic Planning was invited as the resource person for the educational session. He shared his 8 years of NSS experience with the students. The students enjoyed the session and realised how being a part of NSS can bring changes to their life. The day concluded with evaluation and feedback.

Sahyadri NSS unit organized a special camp

“Pathway to Excellence” a Specialization Workshop for MBAs Sahyadri NSS unit organized free Eye Checkup Camp and Pot Compost Demonstration for half a day, for the general public of Kumpala locality. Free eye checkup was done in collaboration with Prasad Nethralaya at the DK District Zilla Panchayat Higher Primary School, Kumpala. Later in the day, Mr Ranjan, Coordinator, Swach Manasa Project, Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru demonstrated the Pot Compost method of waste management to our students and also to the general public.

“Pathway to Excellence” a Specialization Workshop for MBAs “Pathway to Excellence” a Specialization Workshop for MBAs Dept. of Business Administration-MBA organized a Specialization Workshop - “Pathway to Excellence”. The Guest Speakers for the forenoon session represented top finance companies & banks and spoke on various topics.

Mr. Jayaraj is a Senior Branch Manager at Bajaj Capital Ltd., Mangalore. He addressed the students on Finance Specialization and advised the students to follow their passion by understanding their interest. He also explained the problems of corporates in today’s world i.e. mismanagement at top level. Today’s corporate world is much concerned about rate factor.
Furthermore, he explained about the working of Bajaj Capitals where costumers are God of business and they prioritize the relationship and understanding of the customer. He explained about the role of investor which needs understanding of finance and money management. He went on to say that the place of work can restrict the choice of specialization and students should possess balance between their skills and corporate expectation.
He gave a brief knowledge about skills required and opportunities in finance. Further, the role like Finance Consultant, Investment Banker and Corporate Finance were explained by him. Later, he concluded by giving some examples of Dhirubai Ambani - Never leave Attitude.

Mr. Nitin Shetty – Chartered Accountant Nitin and Co., Mangaluru, started his talk by telling the difference between view and statement. He further explained the scope of MBA Finance in job market. He explained the importance of taxation, RERA, GST knowledge among the students and one should not feel bad to start the career from the lower level. He further encouraged students to participate in different seminars to know more about partnership deed, International Taxation, Joint development etc. Lastly, he quoted “Knowledge comes only through Experience”.

Mr. Sharath Anchan – Customer Relation Executive - Thomas Cook is an alumnus of Sahyadri who is currently working in Forex Department of Thomas Crook. He explained about the laws and acts that an MBA student should know about. He made the students aware about the competition prevailing in the market. He said finance is the combination of compliance and business departments. Lastly, he said smart work is much more important than hard work.

Mr. Lyston Fernandes – Manager Laxmi Vilas Bank, spoke about his experiences in the banking field and his daily routine as a manager. He stressed about the key skills that a finance manager should possess and the expectations from the freshers when they come out of the portals of the college after completion of MBA courses.

Mr. Darshan Jain – Managing Partner, Ace Promoters & Developers spoke about real life situation and also stated that if one goes behind knowledge and perceives things, destiny will definitely follow. He concluded telling that marketing is something that forces you to face the stark reality of life and prepares for a better future.

The second day began with the guest speakers for the day represented as HR executives and spoke on various topics.

Ms. Hema Malini S – Maneger (HR & RR) and Manager (Emergency Response Coordination Mangalore SEZ Limited, quoted the HR department with a personal touch. For a long time, HR was not considered a strategic partner but now scenario has changed. When she was a staff functional, she only executed what company told but could not take up what company needs. She mentioned helping employees to achieve company goals and helping employees to achieve employee goals at the same time. What HR does is policies and systems, employee benefits, recruitment training and development, reward management etc. HR is a function where people’s interaction is a must. She concluded with an advice “Choose the job you love and you will never have to work even a day.”

Mr. Deepak Boloor, HR Manager, AR Inspects Software Pvt Limited, Mangalore spoke about the field of HR. He shared his experience about the process of recruitment and observing whether the person is technically and behaviourally fit. There must be consensus between company and employees. He mentioned that companies around the globe are ready to spend because IT industry is changing day by day. Thus, employees have to upskill, reskill or cross skill. He concluded the gap between leader’s role and stated that business understanding is to be bridged and value enhancement be ensured so that we make them grow over a period of time.

Mr. Rachan Shetty – Senior Recruiter, Ian Martin,is an alumnus of Sahyadri. He spoke about his experience in Ian Martin. He did his dual specialisation in Finance and HR. Though he wanted to take up career in finance he ended up being a recruiter. He shared his experience about the selection process of Ian Martin wherein he had to undergo a written and interview round. Lastly, he concluded with the words “Be thoughtful and confident – You will get a job.”

Ms. Sana Perveen – HR Recruiter, TEKsystems, , is an alumna of Sahyadri. Having done her MBA in Marketing, she is currently working as an HR by choice. She was always very keen on what kind of job to get into. She is very much people-oriented and love to move around. Though she cracked two interviews it was her third interview in TEKsystems which she accepted. She looks into the need of the clients and builds strategies accordingly. Her concluding words were “When you get an opportunity, grab it”.

MBAs undergo Two-Day Placement Training MBAs undergo Two-Day Placement Training MBAs in their 2nd semester are now undergoing a Two-Day Placement Training in order to prepare themselves for the upcoming recruitment drives planned in the next semester. Mr. Manish Jha and Swaroop Srinivas from Practical Trainers, Bengaluru are facilitating the Training. ‘Practical Trainers’ is a leading training provider in Bengaluru with experience of training more than 10,000 students across various campuses. 180 students were part of this training programme.

Mr. Swaroop Srinivas, an industry practitioner with close to 12 years of experience has spent majority of his career in the consulting companies like PwC. He has done his engineering from NITK Suratkal and has a post-graduation from IIM Bangalore.

Mr. Manish Jha is a Sales & Marketing champion who did his MBA from Welingkar Institute of Management. With over 12 years of experience in Insurance, Consulting, Travel & Food-Tech, Manish leads the team at ‘Practical Trainers’.

G-Crew of MBA, organizes the 2nd series of Sahyadri Volleyball League (SVL) in the campus G-Crew of MBA, organizes the 2nd series of Sahyadri Volleyball League (SVL) in the campus A Ten-Day Sahyadri Volleyball League was organized by a group of MBA students calling them as “G-Crew”. This was the 2nd year of the tournament and it saw participation from 6 Teams of Boys and 3 Teams of Girls. Chairman Mr. Manjunath Bhandary felicitated the winners during the Valedictory Ceremony. “Management Mavericks” emerged as the winners and “Spikers” as Runners Up in the Girls tournament. Similarly, “Rising Gladiators” emerged as winners and “Management Mavericks” as Runners Up in the Boys Tournament.

Sahyadrians recruited by Anglo Eastern Ship Management Ltd. Mr. Mohammed Ishfaq and Mr. Shrivathsa from the Department of Mechanical Engineering were recruited by Anglo Eastern Ship Management Ltd. for the position of Graduate Mechanical Engineer, (GME) with a highest salary package of Rs.14 Lakhs per annum, in the recently held campus recruitment drive for the 2019 outgoing batch.

Talk by Mr. Mahesh Subramanian from Anglo-Eastern Mr. Mahesh Subramanian, Principal and Head of Dept. for the Engineering section of Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy, visited Sahyadri and addressed the third year Mechanical students & faculty. He briefed the students regarding the career aspects and opportunities available at Anglo-Eastern. He spoke about the concepts of internal combustion in ships according to environmental norm, and research trends in combustion. He also spoke about life at Angelo Eastern, the levels or ranks in Anglo Eastern, procedure for writing exams and certification for promotion. He also gave details related to what actually happens on ships.

Interactive Session by TCS Mr. Pradeep Kote Soorengi, Senior Manager, HR (Campus Hiring) accompanied by Mr. Rohit Venkatesh Lekkala, HR - Talent Acquisition from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) conducted an interactive session with the potential hires from the 2020 & 2021 batch. The session was to create awareness on the opportunities in TCS. They addressed the 3rd year students regarding the placement preparations & their Gamified requirements for final year students regarding the internship and pre-placement opportunity offered by TCS.
They emphasized the importance of participation in contest like Code VIta, EnQuode etc.

Dept. of Civil Engineering bids farewell to the final year students Dept. of Civil Engineering in association with SPACE bid adieu to the Students of 2015-2019 Civil Engineering Batch. The programme commenced with encouraging words shared by the Vice-Principal, Prof. S S Balakrishna followed by a felicitation to each student of the outgoing batch with a memento as a token of love & good luck wishes. Dept. of E&C Engineering celebrated AARADHANA 2K19 The Valedictory ceremony of AEnCES was held in the campus with the theme - “Aaradhana”, The Tradition. Mr. Vardhana M, an alumnus, design engineer at NXP semiconductors was the special invitee for the function. Vice-Principal Prof. S S Balakrishna presided the programme. Dr. Ashwath Rao, Head of Dept. of E&C Engineering; AEnCES coordinator Mr. Gurusiddayaa Hiremath; President Mr. Vishwanath Pai was also present. Mr. Vardhana M is an experienced Design Engineer working in the semiconductors industry. His areas include Verification and Validation (V&V), SV, Scripting, Universal Verification Methodology (UVM), and Visual Basic for Application. A technical talk on VLSI design methodologies- ASIC and FPGA to all the E&C Engineering students was held and was very effective. He emphasized on design flow of ASICS and FPGA and also their differences. He also spoke about the required skills an engineer should possess and closed the session by explaining the various case studies on implementation of image processing on FPGA. The function concluded with the cultural extravaganza.

Dept. of E&C Engineering organized a Half-Day workshop on “Technical Paper Writing” for Faculty Dr. Shyam Lal, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering, NITK, Surathkal was the resource person for the workshop. His area of research includes Python and Matlab programming for signal and image processing, Satellite Image Processing and Analysis, Medical Image Processing, Machine and Deep Learning Algorithms with applications. He is a recipient of the prestigious “Young Faculty Research Fellowship” award under Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics & IT from Digital India Corporation (formerly Media Lab Asia), Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, Govt. of India and Early Career Research Award (Young Scientist Award) from SERB-DST, Govt. of India.
During the workshop, he highlighted the need to find a narrow research field and conduct a research on that particular field before writing a research paper. He emphasized about the tools required to conduct a research. He gave an insight into the different ways of finding research ideas; either by reading recent research papers from good quality journals, reading recent technical magazines from the reputed publisher or discussions with colleagues & industry experts. He also focused on the reasons why a paper gets rejected based on title, abstract, conclusions etc. He also spoke about the different components to be included in a research paper and threw light into each section of the research paper. He concluded his talk by suggesting publishing less but quality paper in SCI & Scopus Indexed journals.
