Grand Finale of the Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt-2015

The Zonal Level Competitions of Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt-2015 held at forty two zonal centres in Karnataka and Kerala over the last month culminated in the finale at the Campus. The zonal level winners took part in the finals in Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management who was host to 1500 students from 200 colleges. Close to 300 projects were put on display by all the participating PU colleges. The event was inaugurated by the lighting of the lamp in the august presence of Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation, Dr. G.Nagalingappa, Professor and Chief Mentor, Silverlining.edu, Mr. Dharmendra Singh, Global Head- Post Merger Integration-Corporate M&A, Schneider Electric, Mr. Satyen Parikh, Founder & CEO at Team Talent & Empowerment Consultants, Mr. Yogananda, Special Officer, VTU, Belagavi, Dr. U.M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and Prof.Sudheer Shetty, Co-ordinator of SSTH-2015.

The day-long events witnessed students showcasing their talent in projects, models and quiz competition. They had the opportunity to interact with the guests individually as well as through a panel discussion. The panelists for the day were overwhelmed by the event and congratulated Sahyadri for hosting the unique program.

The panel discussion opened with the Principal, Dr U.M. Bhushi being the moderator. Dr. K. Byrappa, Vice Chancellor, Mangalore University opened his statement in appreciation of the wonderful concept which has ignited the young minds drawn from different parts of the state. He said that research is a passion which has to be nurtured. He encouraged the participants to think on these lines and etch out a career in the same.

Dr. G. Nagalingappa, Professor & Chief Mentor, Silverlining.edu, addressed on the software and hardware industries and how they are important in educating the students on lines of opportunities. He said that the companies today look for multiple skills in people and the present generation being tech savvy and multi-talented have an advantage with digital communication at all levels.

Mr. Dharmendra Singh Global Head- Post Merger Integration-Corporate M&A Schneider Electric congratulated the participants and said that every participant is a winner. He assured the participants that he would render support in their projects and help them convert them into products. He encouraged the students to think out of the box and pursue their interest and be innovative.

Mr. Satyen Parikh, Founder & CEO at Team Talent & Empowerment Consultants, appreciated the efforts put in by the participants and Sahyadri for organising the event. He stated that we are the biggest critics of ourselves in seeing success and the biggest hurdle which lead to our failure. He motivated the students to connect the dots and thereby extend to the next level.

There was a question & answer session which was answered by the dignitaries. The dignitaries assured their full support to the budding scientists.

At the valedictory, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation delivered the presidential address. In his motivating speech, he said that it is not only academics which is the criteria to excel but along with academics, talent, intelligence and passion is very important. He called upon the students to use the platform provided by Sahyadri and interact with eminent invitees and develop their knowledge. For the question posed by a student on when India will be developed, he said that if India has to develop then “I” should be the change. He further emphasised that SSTH is a step towards that change.

The curtains came down on the Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt-2015 with the awarding of prizes to the winners .






Mr. J. Manjunath Commissioner Employment & Training Visits Sahyadri

Mr. J. Manjunath, IAS, Commissioner, Department of Employment & Training, Government of Karnataka, visited the Sahyadri campus. He was welcomed by the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary and the Principal, Dr. U. M. Bhushi. He had a walk around the campus and appreciated the infrastructure, facilities and the management for the wonderful work on skills development.

Sri Rakesh Sharma Visits Sahyadri

Sri Rakesh Sharma, Managing Director and CEO Canara Bank visited the campus to witness the growth of Sahyadri Group of Educational Institutions. He interacted with the Sahyadri MBA students and in his address he provided a brief over view of how the Indian economy is passing through an interesting phase of growth while the other leading economies in the world are facing economic uncertainties. Mr. Sharma emphasized the need for the academic institutions to prepare better human beings by adopting value systems and ethics. He also highlighted the importance of students taking initiative to start enterprises during the course of study. As Karnataka being ranked high among the other states in the country for startup companies, students should take advantage of the prevailing ecosystem to create new enterprises, while answering the questions raised by the students on farmers committing suicide. Mr. Sharma explained the special schemes introduced by Canara Bank to help farmers during the times of their difficulties. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation, Dr. U.M Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Dr. A.P Achar, Director, Dept of Business Administration were present on the occasion.

Path-Breaking `Speak for Karnataka ’ District Level Intercollegiate Debate Competition Held at Sahyadri

The Times of India Group, one of the largest media conglomerate in the country and Vijay Karnataka, the largest circulated Kannada daily in Karnataka partnered with Federal Bank conducted the path-breaking event `Speak for Karnataka’ an intercollegiate District Level Debate Competition at Sahyadri.

Joyal George, Manager & Branch Head, Federal Bank Ltd the main sponsor spoke about Federal Bank and its branches and also introduced the recently launched app ‘FED BOOK’ where customers can open an account. He was happy to see the large number of participants from different colleges. Sateesh Joshi, Assistant Manager, NRI Relations, Federal Bank was present on the occasion.

The Times of India Group, Kevin Mendonza, Correspondent Education & Crime, encouraged the students to participate in the debate competition and wished the students all the very best.

Vijaya Kotian, Press Reporter, Vijay Karnataka said that developing young minds is the main objective of this competition and students should grab the opportunity to put forward their views.

Molly Chaudhuri, Head Department of Training encouraged the students to speak for the motherland and added that it is a privilege for Sahyadri to have the district level competition held in its campus.

The competition in Kannada and English was open to students across Karnataka and there were fifty-five participants from different colleges. The First place went to Nithesh Kumar of Alvas College, Moodbidri, Shravya of Srinivas School of Engineering won the second place, the third place was bagged by Pavitra of SDM College, Ujjire and Thansif B M of St. Joseph Engineering College bagged the fourth place in the district level competition which qualifies them to participate in the final round to be held on the 30th of November 2015 in Bangalore. The other participants received Certificates of Participation from the organizers. Mr. Arvind, The Times of India Group, Bangalore conducted the entire event.

Axis Bank Pool Campus Drive

Axis Bank, India's third largest private sector bank conducted a pool campus recruitment drive for the MBA and the graduated students at the Sahyadri campus. The drive started with a pre-placement talk by Mr. Raghavendra A N, Manager (HR), which was followed by the Aptitude Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview. More than 200 students from various colleges participated in the drive, the results of which are awaited.

Kirloskar Toyota Textile Machinery Pvt. Ltd. Team Visit Sahyadri

Mr. Ganesh Moger, Assistant Manager-HRM, Prakasha Y.B. Assistant Manager-PPC and Mr. Arun Kumar, Human Resources, Kirloskar Toyota Textile Machinery Pvt. Ltd. visited the campus and interacted with the Chairman, the Principal and the faculty members.

Chairman Unveils Annual Magazine of Vikas Pre University College

‘Two years of PU education decides the fate of 40 years of the future life of a student. Students need to utilise this precious time productively and join the professional courses of their choice and enjoy its study. Only then can they become the leaders in their field and lead a contended future life’, said Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, the chairman of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and the chief guest of the celebrations. He was addressing the students after unveiling the college Annual Magazine Aakrithi 2015-16 at the Annual Day celebrations of Vikas Pre University College.

Sri Krishna J Palemar, the chairman of Vikas Education Trust, Mangaluru, principal, Dr. N Rana Prathap Reddy, Bearys Institute of Technology and the guest of honour, trustees, Mr. J. K Rao, Mr. Koragappa, Mr. Suraj Kalya, and advisor Mr. Ananth Prabhu were part of the celebrations.

Sahyadrians Win the State Level Power Lifting Competition

Mr. Deekshith of second year M.tech (Mechanical) and Miss Swathi S.L. of first year MBA participated in the State Junior Power Lifting Championship-2015 Conducted by the Karnataka State Power Lifting association for men & women at Bhandarkars College. Mr Deekshith has secured the first place in up to the120 kg category and Miss Swathi has secured the third place up to the 47 kg category.

Sahyadrians Recruited by Cigital

Vidyashree of Computer Science & Engineering and Swagath of Information Science & Engineering have been recruited by Cigital in the recently held recruitment drive.

Manipal Technologies Ltd. Pool Campus Recruitment Drive

Manipal Technologies Ltd held a pooled campus recruitment drive for MBA students. Forty-one students from various colleges in and around Mangalore participated in the drive. The drive began with a pre placement talk by Mr. Laxman from the HR team followed by an aptitude test and interview. The final results are awaited.

Capgemini Online Test

Cocubes conducted an online test for Capgemini in the campus. 150 students of final year engineering took the test. The results are awaited.
