Celebrating 125th Birth Anniversary Year of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and Constitution Day

The 125th Birth Anniversary year of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in commemoration of which was observed the Constitution Day was celebrated in Sahyadri. The college paid tribute to Dr. Ambedkar who played a seminal role in the framing of the Indian Constitution as the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly. The Chief Guest Mr. Suresh M Prabhu, a senior lecturer at various colleges teaching the Constitution, Intellectual Property Acts and Business Law, Dr. Antony A J, Vice Principal, Prof. Umashankar B S, Dean Academics, the faculty members and students were present. Mr. Suresh M Prabhu spoke about the importance of this day. He remembered the people who fought against discrimination. He emphasized the fact that with the hard work and sacrifice of freedom fighters we got independence. He also spoke about the childhood of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and the immense knowledge that he possessed. He also spoke on economic justice, land reformation, and the government policy that supports education and students. He urged the students to be united under one umbrella even though they come from different cultures and to be proud that we are all born in India and to learn to live peacefully and with integrity. He conveyed his thanks to the management for giving him an opportunity to speak on the occasion.

Vice Principal Dr. Antony A. J spoke about the importance of this day in 1949, when the Constitution of India was adopted which came into force on January 26, 1950 marking the beginning of a new era in the history of India. Constitution Day in India is celebrated on 26 November. It marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India by the Constituent Assembly of India.

A Quiz Competition was conducted for the students and prizes were awarded to the winners.

Zonal Level “Speak for Karnataka” Intercollegiate Debate Competition

The Times of India and Vijaya Karnataka in collaboration with the Federal Bank conducted the zonal level event `Speak for Karnataka’ an Intercollegiate Debate Competition which was held in Sahyadri.

Mr Deepak Thimaya well-known television personality, Journalist, Writer, Educationist, Trainer, Entrepreneur, Film Maker, Producer, Motivational Speaker, Counselor, Political Analyst and Advisor was present on this occasion. He said that debate competitions are necessary to build leadership, knowledge and values in the younger generation. Mr. Thimaya appreciated Times of India and the Federal Bank for taking up the initiative to conduct debates among the youth. He stated that debates lead to discourse on various in an affable manner. He encouraged the youth to conduct healthy debates and to have discourses so that the opinion of the youth is widely heard.

He further said, “Debate competitions gives courage to the students to question critical issues prevailing in society and one learns to respect the other’s point of view. Through debate we can make our future generation understand democracy in a better way.” He suggested that the participants debate in a responsible way and wished them all the very best.

The Zonal Level Competition had participants shortlisted from the district level. Twelve winners of the district level debate competition participated in this event and the results are awaited. The objective behind organizing this competition is to produce better citizens and professionals who have values like sociability, mutual respect and esprit de corps instilled in them.

Mr. Navajith P Karkera, 3rd year Mechanical Engineering and Mr. Jagath H B, 3rd year Electronic and Communication Engineering students, trained at Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt Ltd have been shortlisted to participate with their patented ‘Smart Helmet for the Motorcycle’ in the 7th India Innovation Initiative 2015, National fair at IIT Delhi which is jointly organized by AICTE, CII and the Department of Science & Technology. It is a highly reputed national event which is conducted to promote entrepreneurship in the country by sensitizing, encouraging and facilitating innovators for commercialization of their innovations.

Blood Donation Camp and CSR Activities

Lions and Lioness Club International, Bantwal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and KMC Blood Bank, jointly organised “Amma” a blood donation camp and other social activities at Birva Center, Melkar, Panemangalore. His Holiness Manila Sridhama Mohandas Paramahamsa Swamijee inaugurated the programme. His Holiness said that there is no label for blood, air and water. It is present in each one of us and we use air and water without any discrimination of caste and religion. Sri. Jagannath Chowta, Trustee, Bhandary Foundation was one of the Guests of Honour.

Sahyadri donated basic essentials for living to five poor families and clothes to three poor club adopted students of PUC, standard ten and eight. Donations from Sahyadri were handed over to the poor by the Guest of Honour, Sri. Jagannath Chowta and student representative Miss Nishmitha Shetty. Around 192 blood donations from the public were recorded. B. Raghavendra Prabhu, faculty member and first year MBA students volunteered and coordinated the programme.

Dr. G. Nagalingappa Addresses the NAAC Members

Dr. G. Nagalingappa, Professor & Chief Mentor, Silverlining.edu, addressed the NAAC members and made a presentation on the NAAC grading process. He discussed the various requirements for the National Assessment and Accreditation Council in detail. He gave an insight into the process of awarding points and guided the various committee chairpersons on how to score these points.

Dr. G Nagalingappa has his post doctoral in "Business practices of leading hi-technology firms in India" with California State, Fullerton State University, USA. He has 33 years of rich experience in Defence, Industry, Teaching and Research with a doctorate in work area of BPR from Kuvempu University. He has been awarded as the Broad Outlook Learner Teacher (BOLT) by the Air India along with the Deccan Herald and Prajavani Group-October 2004. He is also been given the Excellent Teacher Award for consecutive years from 1999-2004. He has conducted numerous workshops, training programmes and exhibitions. He has authored a text book on Quality Management and has many publications to his credit.

Dr. S. M. Shivaprakasha Visits Sahyadri

Dr. S. M. Shivaprakasha, Director of Extension, Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University along with Mr. Joy Jacob, TGT of English at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Mudipu, who is very interested in Science and Technology visited Sahyadri and interacted with Mr. Manjunath Bhandary the Chairman. Dr. S. M. Shivaprakasha on his walk around the campus was appreciative of the infrastructure, facilities and the management for the wonderful work achieved in such a short span of time.

Dr. S. M. Shivaprakasha is an M.F.Sc, Ph.D, PG Diploma FBM (Norway) CLOS (Canada) with twenty-four years of service in teaching, research and extension. His areas of research are: fishery biology, physiology, fisheries resources management, responsible fisheries, and extension activities in fisheries. He has been recognized with the Young Scientist Award by the Academy of Ichthyology and Inter lab, Ambala Gold medal for best research paper presentation 1986.

Kudos to Mr. Karthik Bhandary

Sahyadri compliments Mr. Karthik Bhandary, Research Scholar from the department of MBA, pursuing PhD under the guidance of Dr. Vidyavathi, who facilitated in bringing the company Seventh Sense Talent Solutions Private Limited to the campus resulting in the placement of eight students from the College. He also initiated a Student- CEO Meet, bringing Mr. Palash Bagchi, CEO, STPL Global Technology, with the support of Prof. B. Raghavendra Prabhu, Department of Business Administration.
