Dr. Shivanand S Bhimalli visits Sahyadri

Dr. Shivanand S Bhimalli, former Member of The Medical Council of India (MCI), also the former Syndicate Member of the Rajeev Gandhi Institute of Health Sciences, Bangalore accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Geetha Rani had visited the campus and interacted with the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. On their tour around the campus, they were impressed by the various facilities available to impart education in a holistic way. They wished well for the future growth of the College.

Mr. Shameel, Senior Manager, Reliance Jio visited the campus

Having received the reference from Mr. A. Ravi, Senior Vice-President of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, Mr. Shameel, Senior Manager, Sales & Distribution, Reliance Jio had visited the campus and met the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. His interaction with the Chairman was with regards to engaging Digital Ecosystem. In his discussion, he also gave a glance of his organization and its functions.

Mr. Mohammad Naveed, Director and Head of Trust & Fiduciary, Dubai & Ms. Janet Naveed, Head HR, DynCorp International (US Federal Defence contracting company) FZ-LLC, Dubai interacted with the first year MBA students on Interview Skills, Self-Grooming and on matters relating to Cross Cultural Setting.

Janet, in her talk while stimulating the students expressed that she was an introvert, however moved up the career ladder and now heading the HR function of a renowned US-based organisation. She emphasised on how important it is to grab opportunities to kick start one’s career which shall add great value in procuring a job abroad. She stressed on bringing innovative initiatives/practices at job that can assist in high performance delivery. She even urged the students to spend quality time on designing their CV and the significance of dressing appropriately for the interview. She mentioned that one should be high on confidence level as they are MBAs, spent huge amount for this degree and they are the pass outs of a renowned institution.

Naveed, in his talk urged students to study for life and not to pass out. He encouraged them to go out of their way to read concepts out of the syllabus which can add immense value in reality. He gave the relevance of how a King and a Queen dresses up in order to stand out which in turn boost their confidence. He highlighted that each individual is different and that they should make use of their brains to be unique. He shared anecdotes which brought out the cultural differences between practices in India and UAE. He also referred to Life as a Race and one should pick up experiences that come their way during the race for a better career.

Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration who is also the teacher of Mr. Naveed, during the concluding session informed that Mr & Mrs Naveed shall be closely associated with Sahyadri in providing experiential learning and placement assistance. She highlighted one of the takeaways of the session - We may reach greater heights in our career, however humility and simplicity are the key factors that each one should practice to stay successful.

MBAs attend a One-Day Outbound Training Programme in Madikeri

147 students from the Second year MBA accompanied by seven faculty members participated in Outbound Training Program at Bhagamandala, Madikeri district. The training aimed at developing skills on group dynamics, crisis management, leadership, knowing the team, working with the team and Decision Making. The students were exposed to practicality of Marketing, Finance, HR and also leadership skills. The students were divided into 9 teams and were asked to participate in different activities. The events consisted of rounds like “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun” (Networking Game), “Aaankhen” (Sensory accuracy and communication of abstract), “Aar Paar” (Synergy and Planning), “Bandhan” (Planning, Synergy and Endurance) “Kaun Kitney Paani Mein” (Planning and Skills), “Do Aankhen Barah Haath” (Leadership, Trust and Communication Skills), “Andaaz Apna Apna” (Advertisements and Creativity), “Do Aur Do Paaanch” (Team Coordination and Aptitude) and “Tere Mere Beech Main” (Team Coordination, Trust and agility). Team “Light Green” won the overall prize. For most of the students this was also their first experience to stay in dormitory and know the difficulties faced. Mr. Venkat Ramani and his team facilitated the training activities.

Cafe Coffee Day campus recruitment drive at Sahyadri Cafe Coffee Day campus recruitment drive at Sahyadri Cafe Coffee Day visited Sahyadri campus to conduct recruitment drive exclusively for Sahyadri MBA students for the position of Junior Executive HR – Recruitment & Selection, Junior Executive HR – Learning & Development & Cafe Manager Trainee. Mr. Vijay Anand, HR Manager, Cafe Coffee Day was at the campus to facilitate the entire process. 64 students were a part of the drive, out of which 3 have been short-listed for Junior Executive HR – Recruitment & Selection, 2 have been short-listed for Junior Executive HR – Learning & Development and 23 have been short-listed for Cafe Manager Trainee position.

MBA Faculty invited for a Guest Talk at School of Management, Manipal University (MU-SOM)

Prof. Sushma V, Department of Business Administration was invited to address the 1st year and 2nd year students of MBA – Health Care on “Employee Discipline at Workplace”. In her session, she emphasised on how Disciplinary Actions are taken to inculcate a safe & secured work culture. Students were apprised on the various levels of offence and how each case is handled as per the HR policies & procedures. They were given heads up on the “RED HOT STOVE RULE” followed in corporate organization to drive discipline among employees. They were also informed of several indiscipline acts that may lead to disciplinary actions. The talk concluded with a Q&A session wherein students were given clarity on real time scenarios of Employee Discipline in a Health Care sector.


Chairman invited as the Chief Guest

Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, was invited as the Chief Guest for annual college day celebration of St. Philomina P. U. College Puttur.

In his inaugural address, he advised the students to develop self confidence and to understand the human values which are most essential for an individual to successfully face the future challenges. He mentioned that developing smart skills is necessary to enhance one’s confidence level in every aspect of life. He urged the students to know the level of competition in the modern world to be at the forefront and also to have a unique perspective of accomplishing the task assigned to them. He said, one should thoroughly feel the process of any work which will give lot of happiness and satisfaction of execution. He congratulated the student achievers on the occasion.

Rev. Fr. Vijay Lobo, Principal, St. Philomina P. U. College, Puttur welcomed the gathering, Rev. Fr. Alfred J Pinto, Correspondent, St. Philomina College presided over the function, Rev. Fr. A Prakash Monteiro, Campus Director, St. Philomina College and Prof. Leo Naronha were the Guest of Honour.

Amazon India campus recruitment drive

Amazon India visited Sahyadri to conduct Walk-in interviews for Graduates & Post Graduates in any specialization of Year 2015/16 passed out batches. Around 250 candidates were part of this recruitment process.

Research Paper published in the International Journal

A Research Paper titled “Influence of Ga dopants on the structural, optical and electrical properties of solution processed ZnO thin films” authored by Prof. F. Jyothi Serrao, Department of Physics has been published in the Science Citation Indexed (SCI), Journal of Optoelectronics and Advanced Materials, ISSN: PRINT: 1454 – 4164 , ON-LINE: 1841 – 7132, Volume 18, Number 7-8, pp 672-678. The article is about the preparation of high-quality Ga-doped ZnO thin films to achieve a combination of high optical transmittance and low electrical resistivity, suitable for the low-cost optoelectronic device applications.
