Prof (Dr) K Vidyavathi was invited as a Resource Person for the One-Day Workshop for Lecturers on "Effective Teaching Methods" at Trisha Degree College, Udupi. In her deliberation, she said that teachers use a variety of methods & materials in order to impart a curriculum effectively. There is no one right or wrong teaching style. One's teaching style is an extension of one's personality. Good teacher is one who works to be good & constantly looks for ways to improve. For teaching effectively, a teacher has to be thorough with the objectives of course/topic and accordingly teaching methodology has to be chosen. She said effective teaching is possible only when the teacher is able to promote interest among the students and for promoting interest, teacher should keep himself/herself up-to-date. While teaching he/she should talk about current developments & relate the subjects to current events or real life situations. At the same time, a teacher should provide knowledge beyond the text.
