Valedictory Ceremony of Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt - SSTH 2018

Dr. Karisidappa, Vice Chancellor, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) During the Valedictory ceremony, Dr. Karisidappa, Vice Chancellor, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) addressed the students and encouraged them by sharing an anecdote which hinted that - it is the stuff and basic intelligence with experience that matters and not the outer look of anything that takes people to greater heights. He referred to Sahyadri as a “Scientific Community” and made the students realise how fortunate they were to enter the Engineering College without having the basic academic qualification for engineering yet.

Dr. K T V Reddy, President of IETE, New Delhi while addressing the audience said – There is no replacement to hard work and NO shortcuts to be used. He also stimulated the students to do what their heart says and follow their passion.

Dr. S Seetharamu, a leading Scientist in Central Power Research Institute while speaking referred to the renowned literary works - “Mankuthimmana Kagga” and encouraged students by saying - One must learn a lot from the world around him and live life doing good deeds.

Mr. C Nagaraj, who worked in fortune 500 companies like HP, Toyota, Shimano, Sony addressed the students and stimulated them to analyze whether they should work hard or work smart when an assignment is given to them. He also emphasised on the use of 80-20 Theory through which the success is the highest.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary while speaking to the students said that SSTH was started 5 years ago intending to create technical awareness and over the years Sahyadri has made amendments to the SSTH format. Now, at SSTH, Sahyadri funds the identified project with the help of NAIN and Govt. Of Karnataka and the current prototype would be converted to Product and then Scale Up and Start Up. He has expressed his whole hearted support in not restricting these opportunities to Sahyadri alone but to all students who have talent.

Mr. Ved Prakash, Chief Knowledge Officer at Trianz, Mr. Siddharth Rajhans, Policies & SDGs, United Nations; Mr. Aakarsh Naidu, Advisory panel of the Global Startup Awards (SAARC); Mr. Pranav Hebbar, Co-Founder, Make Room India, Bengaluru were the other esteemed guests during the Valedictory Ceremony. Dr. D L Prabhakara, Director–Sahyadri Group; Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director-R&D; Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal; Deans; Trustees and HODs of all departments were also present during the Valedictory ceremony.

Inauguration of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) students’ forum (ISF) and Professional Activity Centre (PAC)

Inauguration of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers  Inauguration of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers Student’s Forum (ISF) and Professional Activities Centre (PAC) was inaugurated by Dr. K T V Reddy, IETE President New Delhi in the presence of Dr. M H Kori, IETE Distinguished Fellow and Former Technical Director Alcatel Lucent Technologies and Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal at Sahyadri. IETE is India's leading recognized professional society devoted to the advancement of Science and Technology of Electronics, Telecommunication & IT with motive of reach to un-reach. The IETE is the National Apex Professional body of Electronics and Telecommunication, Computer Science and IT Professionals. Government of India has recognised IETE as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) and also notified as an educational Institution of national eminence. The objectives of IETE focus on advancing electro-technology. The IETE conducts and sponsors technical meetings, conferences, symposia, and exhibitions all over India, publishes technical journals and provides continuing education as well as career advancement opportunities to its members.

Faculty of Department of Electronics and Communication have enrolled themselves as corporate members of IETE and around 123 students have enrolled as student members. Dr. Ashwath Rao, Head of Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering welcomed the gathering and briefed about the IETE benefits the staff, students and the institute could avail. He also deliberated about the IETE financial assistance to organize various technical events like seminars, symposiums, expert guest lectures which in turn helps the faculty and students to get exposed to advanced technology. The inauguration was very special as the Chief Guest unveiled the curtains by pressing the remote which activated the dc motor drive and the other switch activated the servo motor and microcontroller for the flower petals stored to fall down. This was designed by one of the students Mr. Shamanth Gowda.

During his inaugural address Dr. K T V Reddy gave heads up about the various schemes for students and staff and also mentioned that one can get Masters Degree from IETE even while working. The Guest of Honour - Dr M. H Kori briefed the audience about how IETE facilitates in arranging invited talks by experts working in various domains for the benefit of the students and faculty. He also emphasized on the ways in which IETE forum can help students and faculty of other branches if interested in learning and getting a degree in Electronics and Computer Science. Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, in his Presidential Remarks, shared the experience of his IETE journey at his previous institute and how we can take it forward at Sahyadri to make it one of the best South Zone centres by engaging in regular activities of IETE.

Ved Prakash, CKO, Trianz addresses MBA students, Startups and Computer science facultyVed Prakash, CKO, Trianz addresses MBA students, Startups and Computer science faculty Mr. Ved Prakash, Chief Knowledge Officer, Trianz addressed the MBA-HR students and faculty and the employees of startups and computer science faculty in separate sessions. In his session for MBA, he shared the processes and initiatives that are practised by corporate companies as well as his own experience as CKO in setting up KM systems in three global companies. He addressed the faculty on Skilling students for the Digital world.

Mr. Ved Prakash is currently CKO at Trianz, a global professional services firm helping Fortune 1000 organizations transition to a digital enterprise by leveraging on Cloud, Analytics, Digitalization & Security. Earlier, he was CKO with CGI Global, a Montreal headquartered global IT services and consulting firm. Prior to CGI, Mr. Ved Prakash was with Wipro for twenty years where he was the CKO in the last six years. Mr. Ved Prakash conducts KM Strategy and Visioning workshops for CXOs across the globe. He is a member of KM Advisory Committee at National e-Governance Division, core member of CII National Committee on KM and Business Transformation, and a member of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) National Committee on framing KM standards. He is a mentor to startups at NSRCEL, the entrepreneurship cell of IIM Bangalore. Ved has been recognized with Global KM Leadership Award in 2018, Most Impactful KM Professional in 2016, Most Influential KM Professional in 2015, and KM Leadership Award in 2014.

Ved holds an MBA from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, and a Bachelors of Technology with Honours in Computer Engineering from Pantnagar University where he was a Gold Medalist.

MBA Alumni visit the campus for SSTH 2018 MBA Alumni visit the campus for SSTH 2018 A total of 14 MBA students of batch 2015-17 visited Sahyadri during SSTH 2018. The alumni witnessed the projects exhibited by students of various institutions. They also addressed the 1st year and 2nd year MBAs on the roles and responsibilities they are handling currently in their respective job roles. The alumni also shared the various challenges they face in their corporate life and how the training imparted, projects undertaken during their MBA course helped them in shaping their career. These students are working with organisations like KPMG, EY, Thomson Reuters and Northern Trust.

Siddharth Rajhans Siddharth Rajhans First year MBAs had an opportunity to hear an inspiring talk by Mr. Siddharth Rajhans, Founder & Director of Spacify Inc, a Harvard educated first generation technology entrepreneur, a Silicon Valley Technocrat, Management Researcher, TEDx and motivational speaker and Pioneer of the Outernet Technology in India and the Asia Pacific Region. He spoke on the importance of Entrepreneurship & Intrapreneurship. He shared his real life experience to bring out the essence of analyzing both financial & technical viability. He also threw light on Resume building and encouraged students to take up various certification courses which will add value to their resume. He shared the significance of Data Analytics in today's scenario and how an individual can pursue a career in it. He stressed on start-up which gives experiential learning which is more concrete than theory.

A technical talk on Distributed computing was organized by Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering for the students of fifth and third semester. Mr. Deeraj Vijaya, Senior Software Developer, Siemens Technology and an esteemed alumnus of Sahyadri was the resource person. He briefed about cloud computing, types of cloud computing, edge computing and also spoke about importance of JavaScript.

Campus Recruitment Drive - Technologics Global Pvt Ltd.

Campus-Recruitment-Drive--Technologics-Global-Pvt-Ltd Technologics Global Pvt Ltd. visited Sahyadri to conduct an internship recruitment drive for the 5th and 6th Semester Mechanical Engineering students of 2019 outgoing batch. Mr. Ummer Shanan, Chief Marketing Officer was at the campus to facilitate the entire recruitment process. A total of 90 students participated in the drive and the results are awaited.

Project Management Project Management Dept of Information Science & Engineering hosted a guest talk on “Project Management” for the final year and pre-final year students. The invited speaker was Mr. Lanwin Lobo, Senior Manager-Data Science, MResult Services Pvt. Ltd, Managaluru. Mr. Lobo explained about the various phases of Project Management by taking live examples and also by engaging students. He also gave insights about the DevOps technology that is currently in limelight. His career success mantra was to pursue interested things at any cost and be ready to embrace changes.

Students of Dept of Electronics & Communication Engineering visited an orphanage on Children’s DayStudents of Dept of Electronics & Communication Engineering visited an orphanage on Children’s Day On the occasion of Children's Day, Association of Electronics & Communication Engineering Students (AEnCES) organized an orphanage visit at “Prashanth Nivas”, Jeppu, Mangaluru. This visit was a life changing experience as it was filled with emotions and sentiments. Children belonging to different age groups from seven years to twelve years were a part of the event at the orphanage. The day started with an informal interaction between the students of Sahyadri and the orphanage. During the formal function, the Sahyadri team was welcomed by the orphanage children with a beautiful song. Children showcased their talents on stage. Various games were organized and a drawing competition was also held. To celebrate Children’s Day and make it memorable, there was a cake cutting ceremony and distribution of chocolates, ice-creams, books, crayons and pens was held. Children were also encouraged to make creative items from colour paper and waste. Finally, Prizes were distributed for games and drawing competition.

MBAs conduct ISR activity on the occasion of Children's Day

Siddharth Rajhans On the occasion of Children’s Day, students of MBA Department visited the Remand Home in Bondel, Mangaluru. The amount collected from voluntary contribution from students and faculty of the department were utilized to distribute clothes and sweets worth Rs. 15,000/- to the 38 children inmates of the Remand Home. This activity was held as an Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR).

Anti-Ragging Committee Annual Meeting held at Sahyadri The annual meeting of Anti-Ragging Committee was held at Sahyadri to discuss the various mechanisms to be implemented for the prevention of ragging and to create a safe environment at the campus. The meeting was attended by Mr. Siddanna Gowda Bajanthri, Sub-inspector from Mangalore Rural Police Department; Mr. Tharanath H P and Ms. Jaya T S - Parent Representatives; Ms. Apoorva, Student representative, the hostel wardens and Bus Drivers. The opinions and feedbacks from all the stakeholders were gathered and taking into consideration. Mr. Bajanthri interacted with the students and also visited the hostel to check the security arrangements and he expressed his satisfaction with the arrangements made.

Alumnus of Information Science & Engineering interacts with students Mr. Lenson Saldhana, an alumnus of Information Science & Engineering interacted with the pre-final year students. Mr. Lenson owns a startup named “axndx”, which built the first xenon smart plug. He shared his experiences about how the startup was initiated and the hurdles they faced and also on how they overcame it. He also gave a glimpse about the apps developed by their startup. It was most encouraging when Mr. Lenson offered internships to Sahyadrians in his organization.

SLK Recruits of Sahyadri had SLK Group Campus Tour The 22 selects of SLK Group visited SLK Green-Park Campus at Devanahalli, Bengaluru for a Campus Tour. The agenda for the event was very well-shaped. It started with a greet-and–meet interactive session with the core recruitment team. This was followed by Fun activities where they were divided into teams along with the students from Nitte Meenakshi and Atria from Bengaluru. Every team had to choose a topic and build a real life model of it using the stationery items provided to them. Fighter jets, space bus, robots were the few among the ones created. Leadership connect was held where they met the alumni from various colleges and also interacted with senior SLK employees who shared their journey of learning in SLK. 3-phased learning program was organized for all the selects aiming to get their fundamentals strong. They were taken around the campus and the event concluded with the feedback session on the daylong event and their thoughts regarding SLK. The entire day was full of learning as all could get clarity in terms of their roles, responsibilities and expectations to be laid out before the joining.

MBA Alumnus interacts with the first year MBA Students Mr. Aadil Hussain (2014-16 Batch), Advanced Analyst at E&Y LLP, an Alumnus of the MBA Department addressed the 1st Year MBA Students. He joined as an Analyst at EY and is now promoted as the Consultant wherein he is handling the legal aspects with respect to Money Laundering and so on. His profile includes dealing directly with the company's Multi-national clients. He shared his overall experience at EY, and how students can get into various roles when it comes to applying for the different profiles of their areas of interest.

Management Development Programme (MDP) on Digital Marketing Concludes

Management Development Programme The Department of Business Administration organized a Four-Day Management Development Programme (MDP) on Digital Marketing which concluded with sessions on 10th and 11th of November. During the Day-Three, topics related to Email Marketing, Social Media Marketing and Web Analytics were covered. Students were given tasks to create email campaigns.

On the concluding day, the students were divided into teams. Four teams had to work on E-Commerce Business Plan while other three teams had to present and analyze on Web Analytics for their company. Mr. Vishal Patel, Associate Director-MetricStream, Bengaluru was the resource person for the Four-Day programme. This adds another feather on their cap enabling them to widen their scope of employment opportunities.

Wipro-Specific Training was conducted for Final Year Engineering Students Six-day Wipro-Specific Technical training was conducted for the final year engineering students. The technical training emphasized on basics and advanced 'C' programming. It included both theoretical & practical approach. They were also trained on Communication skills and Essay writing. The training concluded with the topics on Quantitative Aptitude & Logical Reasoning. A total of 136 students attended the training programme.

First Year Engineering students will be participating in “Saturnalia” at Thapar University, Patiala

Saturnalia A total of 12 students of clan Udgam would be participating in “Saturnalia”, a Technical Fest in Thapar University, Patiala which will be held during 17th to 19th of November’18. The students are mentored by Dtlabz (Ramya from 2nd year Electronics and Communication Engineering). They will be participating in events like Cozmo Clench, Droid Rush, Line follower and Hydraulic Arm. Sahyadri wishes the very best to the participants.

Campus Recruitment Drive- Jaro Education

Campus Recruitment Drive- Jaro Education Jaro Education visited Sahyadri to conduct the pool campus recruitment drive for the BE / B-Tech & MBA students of the 2019 outgoing batch. Mr. Mihir Chauhan from Jaro Education was at the campus to facilitate the entire recruitment process. Over 500 students from pool colleges were part of the recruitment drive. The results are awaited.
