The College Pays Homage to the Father of the Nation

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi the College paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi the father of the nation. The Principal, the Dean Academics, the HODs, the staff and the students showered flowers on the image of Gandhiji in remembrance of his birthday.

Mahatma Gandhi, also known as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, was born on October 2, 1869, and died on January 30, 1948. He was a political and spiritual leader in India and played a key role in the Indian independence. Gandhi developed the novel technique of non-violent agitation which he called "Satyagraha", loosely translated as "moral domination".

He tirelessly endeavored to make people understand that the basic happiness of life is to be happy with whatever one has. His philosophies and morals of life, keep him alive in our minds forever. The United Nations General Assembly announced, on 15 June 2007, that it adopted a resolution which declared that the second of October will be celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence.

Sahyadri Inaugurates the Sahyadri Entrepreneurship Cell and Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt Ltd

The Inaugural of the Sahyadri Entrepreneurship Cell and Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd. was held in the Sahyadri Premises which was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr. Ram Mohan Pai, Director, Maroor Group. The Chief Guest of the day addressed the gathering on the occassion. Mr. Aman, Student Council head of the Entrepreneurship cell welcomed the guests. Mr. Karthik Ramakrishnan, President, SCEM addressed the gathering. Dr. U M Bhushi, Principal, delivered the presidential address. The Unveiling ceremony of the Sahyadri Entrepreneurship Cell and Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd. brochure was made by the Chief Guest Mr. Ram Mohan Pai. Mr.Sachin Ganesh, CEO, Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd. was present on this occasion. The students were addressed by the Guest of Honour, Dr. Prasad T, Advisor, Centre of student Enterprise, NITIE, and Mr. Aakarsh Naidu, NSRCEL, IIM Bangalore. Mr. Ajay Bhatkal, Business Consultant &Advisor to the CEO, Sheorey Digital Systems was also present for the inaugural ceremony. Mr. Johnson Tellis, Director, Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd. proposed the vote of thanks.

A two day Workshop on Entrepreneurship will be held on the 3rd and 4th of October, in the auditorium, where resource persons from the management stream will give their input to the students on start-ups.

Dr. Arakkal Vittal Hegde Delivers a Session on ‘Coastal Structures’

On the occasion of the Engineers week, Sahyadri Pupils Association of Civil Engineering (SPACE), Department of Civil Engineering, in collaboration with the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers, organised a technical talk on "Coastal Structures" which was addressed by Dr. Arakkal Vittal Hegde, Professor, Department of Applied Mechanics, NITK, Surathkal.

Clutch Group LLC VP & Head of Asia Pacific operations Addresses MBA Students

Mr. Amit Katyal, Vice - President and Head, Asia Pacific operations, Clutch Group LLC addressed the first and the second year MBA students. He gave an insight into corporate life and emphasized that students who are invisible will not get any opportunity if they do not rise to the occasion when the opportunity is given and this he said is the first level of courage. He threw light on domain specific knowledge, competencies and other abilities that are required to be successful as a management student. He urged the students to take up internships during their course which will add great value to their profile.

Skills will be acquired knowingly and unknowingly during the course of the study however passion comes from within and students should develop themselves by listening to the inner voice. He highlighted that students may feel that life is difficult during the MBA course, however, he cautioned that life becomes difficult post MBA as companies do not pamper but are result oriented. The corporate sector has changed rapidly during the last few years and value of human has depleted hence it is challenging to sustain in the corporate as competition is high. Hence students should prepare for the challenges mentally in these two years. He also emphasised that how you dress, stand and speak also matters.

Krishna Shenai, Vice President, LoPel Corporation Visits Sahyadri

Dr. Krishna Shenai, Vice President, LoPel Corporation and Adjunct Professor, EECS Department, Northwestern University, USA, visited the campus with the interest to explore the possibilities of uplifting enormous Indian talent with western approach to high technology education, research and technology commercialization. Having reviewed the education, research and commercialization efforts at Sahyadri, he has expressed his desire to provide the leadership and advice to move Sahyadri on par with top academic institutions in the world.

Dr. Krishna earned his B. Tech. degree in electronics from IIT-Madras and then performed advanced research in the semiconductor field, and moved to the United States of America, subsequently, where he received the MS and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland – College Park, MD and Stanford University in Stanford, CA, respectively. Dr. Krishna has worked in top industrial research laboratories such as General Electric Corporation and Intel Corporation as a senior scientist and practicing engineer; he has taught at some of the best universities in the United States of America including the University of Wisconsin at Madison, WI and The University of Illinois at Chicago; and, he has raised venture capital and founded two successful startup companies. He was the senior engineer at Intel Corporation and was a member of the team that developed first two generations of Pentium™ microprocessor. Dr. Krishna was awarded several prestigious honors. In the past 25 years, he has produced more than three dozen graduate students who are making important contributions around the world.

NGCN Pooled Campus Recruitment Drive

NGCN Infosolutions Pvt. Ltd. conducted a pooled campus recruitment drive for the 2015 batch of students in the Computer Science & Engineering, Information Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and MBA streams. One hundred plus students attended the drive out of which twenty-five students have been shortlisted.

Next Generation Converged Network (NGCN) offers innovative solutions on cloud and converged networks. NGCN works with Power Net to achieve this goal.

MBA Alumnus of the Month

Mr. Roshan Ballal, Associate-Accounts Maintenance, HSBC, Bangalore and an alumnus of the College was awarded the MBA Alumnus of the Month Award. He addressed the first year students on the various skills required by the industry and how students have to thoroughly prepare themselves. He appraised the students on interviews, dress sense, email etiquette, etc. Students thoroughly enjoyed the interaction.

Sinchana - 2015 held in the Campus

The Department of Art and culture conducted a cultural fest ‘Sinchana-2015’ in the Campus. The fest held yearly, is a platform for students to exhibit their innate talents.

Sinchana - 2015 saw the undergraduate and postgraduate students showcase their talents in a cultural extravaganza. Students gave a scintillating performance and the audience consisting of the staff, the parents and the students were awed at the performance of the participants.

Student won prizes in competitive events like Classical Dance (Solo), Classical Singing (Solo), Dance- Eastern/ Western (Solo), Western Singing (Solo), Singing (Group), Filmy Eastern Singing (Solo), Group Dance (Eastern/ Western), Photography and Poster- Making. Click here to see the winners.

AEnCES Student Association Inaugurated

AEnCES (Association of Electronics & Communication Engineering Students) the student association for the academic year 2015-16 was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. U C Niranjan, Adjunt Professor, MIT, Director - Research and Training, MDN Labs. He was happy to be given the opportunity to visit the college and to address the students. He asked students to concentrate on conducting workshops and seminars through the association to gain as much knowledge as possible from the experts. He later gave a technical talk on the various products and projects developed by MDN labs.

In his presidential remarks, Prof. B S Umashankar, Dean Academics, said that involving themselves fully in association activities will give them an edge and asked students to also take up opportunities for internship.

Dr. Jose Alex Mathew, HOD, Electronics & Communication Engineering, informed the students that AEnCES is a forum for students to improve their self-confidence and intellectual qualities and the motto of the Association should be `Get Placed And Help Others To Get Placed.’

A cultural programme by the students followed the formal inauguration.

Civil Engineering Students Visit Bhandary Meridian

The students of the final year civil engineering visited Bhandary Meridian, the construction site near Bejai, Mangalore and observed the reinforcement work being carried out at the project site as a part of their weekly internship program. The students interacted with the project engineer and collected information pertaining to their area of study.

Sahyadrian Recruited by Xchanging Technology

Ms. Shilpa of the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering of the 2015 passed out batch has been selected by Xchanging Technology in the recently held campus recruitment drive.

MBA Alumni Interact with Students

Mr. Abhijith Karkera, Managing Partner and Marketing Head, Vibrant Minds, interacted with the students of the semester three mechanical engineering. He shared his experience and what industry expects from fresh graduates. He urged the students to utilise the opportunities available in the College and to build a better future for themselves. He also briefed about various competitive exams. The students found the session inspiring.

Ashrith Nonda , Senior HR Executive, Epicor Software India and alumnus of the College 2011-13 MBA batch, addressed the HR students on `Social Media Marketing and its Challenges.’ He emphasized the importance of internships and project work for a fresher when entering the corporate world. He cherished the memories of his student life at Sahyadri and urged the student to be positive, have a value-based living and be inquisitive to learn new things every day. He said that if one wants to be successful one always needs to take up challenging roles rather than a routine one's. Ashrith will soon be back to conduct a placement drive.
