Deliberation on PRAJNA 2015

Deliberation on PRAJNA 2015 symposium was organized in the campus for the faculty members. Swami Jitakamanandaji Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Math and Swami Veereshananda Saraswati President, Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashrama, Tumkur were present on the occasion.

Swami Veereshananda Saraswati explained the importance of ethics in the present day education system. He stated that the teacher is the real architect of the institution so teachers should join this profession by choice not by chance and teachers should not deny the knowledge of the student and should be ready to learn from the students. Stating the importance of time and common sense he said that time is inelastic, cannot be replaced and common sense is not common to all, common sense is very much needed to everyone not only book knowledge. He admired the Sahyadri campus and stated that it looks like the ancient Gurukula.

Swami Jitakamanandaji explained the shraddha, Medha and the Prajna theme of the Symposium held in the Ramakrishna Math, Mangalore on 11th September 2015. He showed the difference between Apara and Para, Apara means ancient, external skills and Para means Internal Education and Personality. He also explained the drawbacks of the present day education system.

Dr. Savitha M.B, Chemistry, Prof. Mitra K, Maths, Dr. Vishal Samantha, MBA, Dr. Vidyavathi, MBA, Prof. S S Balakrishna, Mechanical Department, Mr. D . SaiPrashanth, Assistant Professor, Computer Science Department shared the experience of Prajna 2015 symposium attended by them and gave the gist of the talks delivered by the eminent speakers of that day.

The Second Phase of Swacch Mangaluru by Ramakrishna Mission

The second phase of Swacch Mangaluru by Ramakrishna Mission was inaugurated by Swami Muktidanandaji, Trustee, Ramakrishna Math & Mission & Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Ashrama, Mysore, in a function held at Mahatma Gandhi Vedike, Karangalpady.

Sri Kumar H, Managing Director, MRPL, flagged off the 21st cleanliness drive. Swami Veereshananda Saraswathi, president, Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashrama, Tumakuru, Capt Ganesh Karnik, MLC, Mangalore, Manjunath Bhandari, chairman, Sahyadri Group of Institutions, Dr Jeevaraj Sorake, Prakash Salian, Premananda Shetty and other eminent dignitaries were present on the occasion.

On this occasion, Dilraj Alva submitted the 20 weeks’ Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan report and video presentation of the 20 weeks’ drives to MRPL.

The auto stand at Karangalpady was also renovated, cleaned and beautified with a new roof and stand of corrugated sheets. It has also boards containing the messages of awareness on Swacch Mangaluru. This renovated auto stand was inaugurated by cutting the ribbon by Sri Kumar H, MD, MRPL. Around 145 students and 13 faculty members attended the program.

Team HAWK Will Represent Sahyadri at SAE Aero Design Event in the USA

Team HAWK, the Aero Design team of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management are Westward bound to Fort Worth, Texas, USA. Mohammad Anwar (Team Captain), Probid J Panikkan (E&C), Amritha khandare (E&C), Tharanath (Mech), Midhun Jyothis (Civil), Rajgokul (E&C), Nithin (CS), Gouse Khan (IS), and Gerald (E&C) have been selected to participate in this year’s SAE Aero Design event which will be held in Fort Worth, Texas, USA from March 11-13, 2016. The team successfully registered and has received confirmation of their participation. The team advisers are Dr Tenzin Pasang and Dr Rathishchandra Gatti, professors of the college.

Thirty-Nine Sahyadrians Recruited by Infosys

Thirty-nine students of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management were the highest selected candidates by Infosys Ltd. out of a total of ninety-three candidates recruited by the company. Students of the 2016 batch from P. A. College of Engineering, Srinivas Institute of Technology, St. Aloysius College and Mangalore Institute of Technology were also part of the recruitment drive. Mr. Pramod M V, Lead - Talent Acquisition of Infosys Ltd. accompanied by the panelists on the recruitment team were at the campus to facilitate the entire process.

Sahyadri MCA students bagged the Best Poster Award in the two-day International Conference organized by St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT), Beeri, Mangalore. Two teams participated in the poster and paper presentation. The paper presentation also received good appreciation from the delegates present at the conference. The two teams were guided by Mr. Bharath Bhushan, Assistant Professor, Department of MCA. Bisharath Abdul Khader, Ashiq P M, Bhavithraj, Raghavendra U Karunakar, Vinaya J Rai, Sachin Bharadwaj, Prashal I S and Vidyalakshmi formed the team that won the award.

Alumnus Guides Students on Technical Interview

Mr.Vasudevan, Software Engineer- R & D, Frauscher Sensar Technologies and an alumnus of Sahyadri, conducted a session for the final year engineering students on how to approach and be successful in handling technical interviews during campus recruitment. He briefed the students on corporate expectations from fresh graduates.

Student Associations Inaugurated for the Academic Year 2015-16

Students' Technical Association of Information Science and Engineering (STAISE), a student association of the Department of Information Science & Engineering was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Prof. Umashankar B S, Dean Academics for the academic year 2015-16. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest stressed on the importance of non- violence and peace that students have to embrace. He witnessed the oath on non-violence that the students undertook to follow. He further stressed the importance of taking up projects that will help in social reforms.

Dr. A.P. Manu, the head of the department in his presidential speech briefed the various activities that the association has planned for the current academic year. He welcomed all the Semester III students of the department and stressed on the importance of these activities in the professional growth of a student. The academic toppers of various semesters were felicitated for their excellence in academics.

Students showcased their talent through a cultural program after the formal function came to an end.

CLOUDS (Computer Legends Of the Unified Department @Sahyadri), the student association for the academic year 2015-16 was inaugurated by Professor Sudheer Shetty, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. In his address he laid importance on health and about how attitude affects the success of a student. This was then followed by Cultural activities by the students.

The Sahyadri Management Student Association (SMSA), of the Department of Business Administration, was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr. Arun Gundmi, General Managers – Sales, NGCN Infosolutions Pvt., Ltd., NITK-STEP, Surathkal, for the academic year 2015-16. In his inaugural address, Mr. Arun beckoned the youth to join hands in the development of the nation and christened the students as `young guns of India’. He put forth the significance of mentoring, soft skills, live projects, industrial visits and industry internship in the management course work. In the transition that students make from campus to corporate, a student must ensure that he incorporates the corporate culture, should be able to communicate with the colleagues, imbibe etiquette and manners and thereby even think differently.

VTU Inter-Collegiate Mangalore Zone Throw ball Tournament Held in the Campus

The VTU Inter-Collegiate Mangalore Zone Throw ball Tournament hosted by Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management was inaugurated by the chief guest, Ms. Keerthi Nairy, the young international throw ball player. In her inaugural speech to the gathering, she said that sports and studies are both important for an individual and now it is the time for youngsters when they are young to achieve in life and that every person must have an aim in life. She wished the players good luck in the tournament. The chief guest cut the ribbon and inaugurated the court by serving the first service of the game.

Eight teams from various colleges participated in the tournament. The final match was played between St. Joseph Engineering College and Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management with St. Joseph Engineering College emerging as winners in a nail-biting finish - (27-26) the first set was won by Sahyadri and St. Joseph Engineering College won the second set (20-25). The deciding set was won by St. Joseph Engineering College (13-15). Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management bagged the Runner-up trophy.

Ms. Ashmitha J. Rodrigues of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangalore was awarded as the Best Thrower, Ms. Akshatha as Best Receiver and Ms. Anusha as Best All Rounder - both of St. Joseph Engineering College. Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal distributed the prizes.

Students, Ms. Marzina Natasha joint secretary welcomed the gathering and Ms. Chaitra Shetty, president of the association read the plan of action for the entire academic year. A cultural programme followed the formal inaugural programme with games and activities. Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Dr. A. P. Achar, Director, Department of Business Administration, faculty and staff were present on the occasion.

Seminar on Swacch Bharath

Following the Swacch Mangaluru programme, a Swacch Bharath seminar on the theme, “Cleanliness: Internal & External” was inaugurated by Swami Muktidanandaji, Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Ashram, Mysore. Sri Kumar H, Managing Director, MRPL, Mangalore, was the chief Guest. Swami Veereshananda Saraswathi, Prof Nandan Prabhu & Prof Raghotham Rao interacted with the delegates on various dimensions of Swacch Bharath. Around 60 students were present for this program.

Sahyadrians Win First Prize in National Level IT Quiz

Abhishek K. and Sriharsha Bhat, Semester VII, Computer Science & Engineering, won the First prize in the National Level IT Quiz at the IT Fest Joshiana 6.0 held at St. Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru.

M.Tech. Student Orientation Programme

The Orientation for the postgraduate M.Tech. students was conducted for the first year M.Tech. students by the PG cell of the college. Dr. Subhash C Yaragal, NITK was the chief guest who inspired students to excel in the programme which they have undertaken. The Principal, Dr. U. M. Bhushi motivated the students to achieve higher results in curricular and extracurricular activities. Dr. Gautham Jeppu, M.Tech. Co-ordinator briefed the code of conduct and ethics to be followed by the students.

Dr. Pasang from the Research Centre gave guidelines on how to write a research paper. Dr. Rathishchandra Gatti from the Research Centre explained the Student Project Support Scheme (SPSS). Prof. Umashankar B S, Dean Academics gave general guidelines to the students. Mr. Sunil Kumar, Asst. Prof. civil engineering shared his expereinces as an M.Tech. student in Sahyadri and inspired the students on writing the GATE exam.

Johnson Tellis en route to Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology

Mr. Johnson Tellis, alumnus of the college is en route to the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (State University) [MIPT], Russia, where he will pursue an international Masters Degree Program 2015/17 on “Neural Networks and Neural Computers” on the English language. The entire Sahyadri family wishes him every success in the future. Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) is one of the most prestigious institutions of education and research in the world. It trains highly qualified specialists in theoretical and applied physics, applied mathematics, informatics, biotechnology and related disciplines. ISO Surveillance Audit

Mr. Mohan Khandate from TUV-Nord was the auditor for the two-day ISO Surveillance Audit. He visited various departments and checked the documentation. He appreciated the achievements made towards research, the teaching-learning process and sports. The Social Innovation Lab which has made a good impact on students has been recorded by him as one of the new ideas that has been implemented in an engineering college. In a few areas, Mr. Khandate has put forth suggestions towards making an improvement in the documentation process.

Dr. Manjappa Sarathi Selected as Member of KPCB

Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director - Research & Consultancy, has been selected as a member of the Technical Advisory Committee for Karnataka Pollution Control Board for the year 2015-16.

Dr Jose Alex Mathew Enrolled as Fellow of Institution of Engineers

Dr Jose Alex Mathew, HoD, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering has been enrolled as Fellow of Institution of Engineers (FIE) and placed in the Electronics and Telecommunication Division. He has been attached to the IEI Centres /Office of Karnataka State Centre and Mangalore Local Centres.

MBA Director Invited as Chief Guest

Dr A. P. Achar, Director, Department of Business Administration, was the chief guest at the inaugural function of the Entrepreneurship Motivation Programme jointly organized by the Department of Industries and Commerce and Platform for Women Entrepreneurs at MGM College, Udupi.
