Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt-2015 Competitions

The competitions of Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt-2015 were held at Sai Angels Pre-University College, Chikmagalur. The chief guests for the program were B. C. Geetha, President, Malnad Development Board and B. V. Narasim Murthy, Principal, MES B.Ed College. In her inaugural address, she threw light on the late A. P. J. Abdul Kalam’s dream of an educational system – project and research based learning. She thanked Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation for conducting the SSTH event in Coffee Nadu, Chickmagalur. B. V. Narasim Murthy, Principal MES B.Ed College in his address asked the students to build their questioning skills so that they can aim to become scientists in their own field and also gave an example of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan who was the President of India and a great teacher. Mr. Edwin, Lecturer, Department of Biology expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and support rendered by Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management in conducting the event.

From Sahyadri, Assistant Professors Ramyashree A. P., Kavyashree, Sunil B. N. and Nishanth conducted the program along with Mr. Nagaraj, Lecturer, Department of Biology who organised the program with the support of the Principal, staff members and students. The competition received an overwhelming response with close to 220 students participating in different events.

Making the Right Career: A Talk by Prakyath Thejveer

Prakyath Thejveer, State Trade Marketing Manager, United Spirits, Bangalore addressed the final year MBA students on the topic `Making the Right Career.’ Elaborating on the topic, he said that there are no short cuts and only hard work and efforts bring success. He told the students that there is no difference between the students of the Best B-schools and other B-schools. It’s the personality, efforts, skills and creativity that matter in giving results in a career.

Business Opportunities in Agricultural Sector: Talk by Dr Maheshwarappa H P

Department of Business Administration organised a guest lecture on `Business Opportunities in the Agricultural Sector’ for first year students of MBA. Dr. Maheshwarappa H P - Project Coordinator, Central Plantation Crops Research Institute was the resource person. He discussed various business opportunities available in the agricultural sector.

Colonel Prashant Petkar Visits Sahyadri

Colonel Prashant Petkar visited the Campus and addressed 15 students who had been shortlisted for the Services Selection Board. He gave them an insight into the various tests that will be conducted over 5 days. The tests include Intelligence Test, Psychological Test, Group Test, Group Task, Interview and Conference. He gave the students tips on how to prepare for this interview process.

Sahyadrians Win in VTU Inter-Collegiate Wrestling Competition

Mr. Sushanth S. Bolar, Semester VII, Mechanical Engineering secured the Second place (up to the 61 kg category) and Mr. Jerin D. Varghese also from the Mechanical stream secured the Third place (up to 81 kg category) in the VTU Inter- Collegiate Wrestling Competition held at MVJ College of Engineering, Bangalore.

Sahyadrians Winners in Weight Lifting Championship

Vikyath of first year MBA secured the Second place in up to 105 senior category and the Third place in up to 105 Junior category and Deekshith of second year M.Tech. won the Second place in the 105 junior category Weight Lifting Championship. The State Junior & Senior Weight Lifting Championship-2015 was conducted by the Karnataka State Weightlifters association for men and women at Alva’s, Moodabidri.

FLAMES Student Association Inaugurated

FLAMES (Fulfilling Aspirations of Mechanical Engineering Students), student association of the Department of Mechanical Engineering for the academic year 2015-16 was inaugurated by Mr. Sunil Kulkarni, GM, Special Projects & Training, MCF, Mangaluru. He spoke on the insights and importance of mechanical engineering in day-to-day life. Student Executive Committee member Mr. Navaneeth welcomed the gathering and Mr. Akshay Bhandary gave an overview about the activities of the association conducted during the academic year 2014-15. Mr. Larry Denzil, Student Executive Committee member introduced the new Office bearers and welcomed them.

Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Professor S. S. Balakrishna, President of the Association and HoD of the Department, Dr. A. J. Antony, Vice Principal, Prof. Umashankar B. S., Dean-Academics, faculty members and SWOs were present on the occasion. Everyone appreciated the models of various mechanical components prepared and decorated by the students. The achievers were felicitated by the Chief Guest and after the formal function the students showcased their talents through a cultural program.

ITC Infotech Campus Recruitment Drive

21 Students of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management are shortlisted by ITC Infotech for the final round of interview in the exclusive drive conducted at the campus. Ms. Aparna Ritwik of the Human Resource Team of ITC Infotech accompanied by the panelists on the recruitment team was at the campus to facilitate the entire process.

NGCN Infosolution Pvt. Ltd. Recruitment Drive

NGCN Infosolution Pvt. Ltd. conducted a recruitment drive for candidates passing out in the year 2016. Seventeen MBA students (Marketing Specialization) participated in this drive out of which twelve are shortlisted for internship.



Deeksha Bhandari Elected Student Representative of the London School of Economics

Deeksha Bhandari has been elected as the Student Representative of the Student Union at LSE (London School of Economics). As an elected student Representative, she is currently representing the London School of Economics to other colleges in the UK. She further aspires to become the 'General Secretary' (the highest position in the Council) to the Student Union which would give her the experience of working with the Student Unions across the globe.

Sahyadrian Wins First Place in Engineer’15 Gaming Event

Kaushik Raj, Semester VII, Department of Mechanical Engg. participated in “DOTA 2” a gaming event during Engineer’ 15; the annual Technical Symposium of National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal and won the First place with a cash prize of Rs. 2500/-. `Engineer’ is the Annual Technical Symposium of NITK, Surathkal and is one of the largest of its kind in India. Many technical and entrepreneurship events are held during the fest, including quizzes, coding marathons, RC car racing and the like.

VTU Essay Writing Competition

The Hindustani Prachar Sabha (HPS) is organizing an Essay Competition on the topic, “Should Capital Punishment be Abolished in India”. The essay is to be written in Hindi in the Devanagari script and should be ranging between 5,000-7,500 words. The essay must reach the HPS office by the 15th of December, 2015. The winners will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000/- as the first prize, the second prize being Rs 40,000/-, the third prize being Rs 30,000/- and four consolation prizes of Rs 7,500/- each.
