MRPL – Sahyadri Interprofessional Collegiate Debate
Competition 2015

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) in association with Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management held an Interprofessional Collegiate Debate Competition - 2015, `Corruption in India - A Cause of Instability and Poverty’ in the Sahyadri Campus. Students of engineering, medicine, dental and management disciplines from nineteen professional colleges in Mangaluru and the Udupi region participated in the Debate Competition.

Mr. H.V. Manjunatha, Manager (Vigilance), MRPL welcomed the gathering.

The Chief Guest Sri.Y. Ravindranath ITS, Chief Vigilance Officer, MRPL, in his inaugural address spoke on corruption and the effects of corruption. He thanked Sahyadri and the Central Vigilance Council for organizing the debate competition.

The Guest of Honour Sri P. G. Ramakrishna, General Manager (Vigilance) MRPL Mangaluru stated that Corruption is not a new word to the people for it is decades old. He urged the young minds to take initiatives to fight against corruption.

Dr. Umesh. M. Bhushi, Principal in his presidential address stated that at the end of the debate session, the participants and the audience must have some take away to ponder on. The Chief Guest Sri. Y Ravindranath, ITS Chief Vigilance Officer, MRPL, Mangaluru addressed the gathering at the valedictory function. He spoke on how MRPL works on reducing corruption by focusing on preventive vigilance.

The Guest of Honour Sri. P. G. Ramakrishna, General Manager (Vigilance) MRPL, Mangaluru, appreciated a healthy debate competition among the participants and wished the students all the very best .

Dr. Malini N Hebbar, Assistant Professor, St. Agnes College stated that she was impressed by the way participants shared their opinions and the quality of debating. Dr. Kusum D’Sa, Principal, The Cambridge International School, gave some guidelines that have to be kept in mind at the time of debating. Mrs. Samina Nayak, a Distinguished Toastmaster, appreciated the participants on their excellent debating skills and suggested how they could improve upon further.

Dr. U.M.Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management delivered the presidential address.

Mr. H.V. Manjunath, Manager, Vigilance MRPL, thanked the Chairman, Principal, the entire MRPL team, and the management of Sahyadri for making this event a success.

Sri. Y. Ravindranath and Sri. P. G. Ramakrishna gave away the cash prizes and the certificates. The first prize was bagged by Ms. Pallak Razdan and Mr. Saahil Khandewal of Manipal College Dental Sciences, Mangaluru, the second prize by Mr. Akshay Subramanian and Mr.Vishnu M. B. of A. J. Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, Mangaluru and the third prize by Mr. Chris D’ Souza and Mr. Ankit K. R., St. Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru. The Best Debater was given to Mr. Karthik Ramakrishnan of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. The event was co-ordinated by Mr. H. V. Manjunatha, Manager (Vigilance) MRPL and Dr. Molly Chaudhuri, HOD, Training, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.

Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt-2015 Zonal Level Competitions

The Zonal Level Competitions of the Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt-2015 was held at Karkala Jnanasudha Pre-University College, Karkala. Mr. Rajendra Bhat, Orator, host of Spandana TV and science teacher, Karkala inaugurated the program. He quoted some of the words of the great scientist Dr. Abdul Kalam where he said “Discovery, Invention and Innovation are a very important part of education. Students should give more importance to innovation where they can modify things which will be helpful for the future generation”. He also said, “Students should have a sharp observation and listening power. Don’t see, observe the things. Don’t hear, listen.”

Projects were judged by Mr. Rajendra Bhat, Mr. Narayan Shenoy, science teacher, Sri. Madh Bhuvanendra High School, Karkala and Mr. Girish, science teacher, Sanoor. Forty-four students of Jnanasudha Pre-University College actively participated in the Zonal level Competitions.

Mrs. Dinesh M, Principal, and Mrs. Jyothi Padmanabh, PRO, KJSPUC welcomed the gathering and gave the vote of thanks, respectively. Mrs. Mitra and Mrs. Ayesha Shabana faculty members, Mr. Shrajan Bhandary and Ms. Shubhalaxmi .A., students of Sahyadri along with Mr. Lozil Mendonca of Jnanasudha PU College coordinated the competitions.

Mphasis Pooled Campus Recruitment Drive

Twenty-three students from pool colleges have been shortlisted by Mphasis in the pooled campus recruitment drive held by the company. Around 430 students of Engineering and MCA passing out in the year 2016 took part in the drive.

Good Through Software Pooled Campus Recruitment Drive

The two-day pooled campus recruitment drive for students graduating for the academic year 2016 was conducted by Good Through Software in the campus. A total of 600 students from various engineering streams took part in the drive. The results are awaited.

Sahyadrians Recruited by SLK Software

Seventeen Sahyadrians have been selected by SLK Software in the recently held pool campus recruitment drive as part of their 2016 batch B.E hiring.

Reliance JIO Pool Campus Recruitment Drive

Five students have been shortlisted by Reliance JIO in the pool campus recruitment drive conducted at the campus for the 2015 passed out batch of students.

Guest Lecture by CA S.S. Nayak

CA S.S. Nayak addressed the first year MBA students on the topic "Compliance for startups and forms of ownership. He spoke about the various forms of ownership such as sole trading firm, partnership firm, company form and trust. He also explained about various laws governing the business. There were also discussions on process of registration of a firm. The session was followed by an interaction with students.

Chairman Guest of Honor at Expert PU College

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, was the Guest of Honour on the occasion of the inauguration of the Management Office of Expert Pre-University College, Mangaluru.

BIZKON 2015

Thirty-nine final year MBA students visited Infosys Ltd, Mudipu campus. Infosys Ltd has several Campus Connect programs organized specifically for engineers and management graduates. The Mangaluru campus ventured its pilot program tailor made for MBA graduates “BIZKON 2015”. Infosys deemed it a pleasure that Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Department of Business Administration were the first MBA batch of students to be part of the Industrial Orientation Program at Infosys Ltd, Mudipu Campus, Mangaluru. The program included a campus tour, sessions on various key aspects of managerial functions and informal interactions with the HR.

Faculty Member Invited as Judge

Mr. Lokesh, Assistant Professor, S.G., Department of Business Administration was invited to judge the Business Plan event in the National Level Management Fest organised by Srinivas Engineering College, Valachil.

Dr. Vishal Samartha Inaugurates the Corporate Club at SDM Law College

Dr. Vishal Samartha, Professor in the Department of Business Administration inaugurated the corporate club at SDM Law College, Mangalore. In her inaugural speech she said that the corporate club should be a platform to bring together industry leaders in technology, politics, entertainment, sports and law to discuss hot trends and the business and legal decisions they face. She congratulated the management and added on saying that lawyers with business training and business leaders with a legal background would gain a critical competitive edge in the current economy.
