Sharada Pooja held in the Central Library at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangalore On the occasion of Navarathi, Sharada Pooja was organized by the Library staff in the Central Library. Mr. Devadas Hegde and Mr. Jagannath Chouta, Trust Members, Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, Prof. Balakrishna S S, Vice-Principal, Prof. B. S. Umashankar, Dean Academics and other management staffs and students were present during this occasion.

Chairman invited to Inaugurate Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

SSTH Zonal Event held at Govinda Dasa P. U. COLLEGE SSTH Zonal Event held at Govinda Dasa P. U. COLLEGE Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation was invited to inaugurate the Parent Teacher Association and to interact with parents at Shri Subrahmanya P.U.College, Subrahmanya. In his address, he pointed that the students should identify their field of interest. Accordingly, one should set a goal with the guidance of teachers and parents. He also stressed that before joining any course, student and parents should have an insight into course and the college in which they wish to study. He also specified that parents role in building career of their child is crucial which will act as a foundation for all future endeavor.

Mr. Jaganatha Chowta, Managing Trustee, Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, was invited as Guest of Honour for the function. In his address he pointed that it is parent’s responsibility to share and teach life experience with the child that will reflect on their future, and he also stressed on the importance of entrepreneurship.

Mr. Vittal Rao, Principal, SSPU College thanked Sahyadri for initiating many programs such as SSTH, SPSS, Sahyadri Center for Social Innovations(SCSI), Hands on Experience Lab etc, which is imperative for students in present day and he appreciated Sahyadri’s focus to develop rural areas.

Mr. Vaishak NL, Regional Coordinator, Mr. Suhas, Zonal Coordinator and Mr. Ajith, Department of Mechanical Engineering also attended the progamme and interacted with the teachers, students and parents.

Pooled Campus Drive conducted by Infosys as a Day One Company

Pooled Campus Drive conducted by Infosys as a Day One Company At Sahyadri College Infosys visited the campus as a Day one Company to conduct the pooled drive for the engineering students of 2017 batch. 582 students from 4 pool colleges had participated in the drive.

Mr. Pramod M V, Senior Lead – Talent Acquisition, Infosys Ltd. accompanied by the panellists on the recruitment team were at the campus to facilitate the entire process. Results are awaited.

Estuate Software pooled campus drive Estuate Software Pvt Ltd conducted the pooled campus recruitment Drive for engineering students of 2016 passed out batch at the campus. Mr. Harish Suvarna, Program Manager, Estuate Software Pvt Ltd was at the campus to facilitate the entire recruitment process. The company was highly impressed with the quality of students.

Six Students from MBA First Year selected as Volunteers for 20th NHRD National Conference Six Students from MBA First Year selected as Volunteers for 20th NHRD National Conference Ms. Mouna Muthamma C P, Mr. Prajwal Kaverappa M N, Mr. Ranjith M V, Ms. Aswathi V A, Ms. Ayisha M E and Ms. K R Lavanya, first year MBA students were chosen by NHRDN team to be a part of the volunteering team for the NHRD Students & Faculty Conference as part of 20th NHRD National Conference to be held on 7th December, 2016 at Christ University, Bangalore. It is worth mentioning that these were the only students to be chosen outside Bangalore as volunteers of this event. As part of the training for the volunteering team, these students had the opportunity to visit Volvo Buses India Pvt Ltd plant at Hoskote, Bangalore. Mr. Pronob Chetia, Director-HR, Volvo Group Truck Ops, Logistics Services-Asia Pacific Region addressed the students regarding the organization. Mr. Arun Balasundaram, Manager - Strategy, Business Intelligence, Demand Planning at Volvo India Private Limited, Bus Division addressed the students regarding the strategy of Volvo India. Mr. Vipin, Project Manager, Volvo India trained the students on Project Management to enable the students to plan and execute projects. Post which, students were divided into groups and were asked to develop strategies for the project assigned to them for the NHRD conference. 17 students in total from Christ University, ISBR, M S Ramaiah University and Surana College were part of the training. The students were then taken through a plant visit and also taken through the testing track and safety measures followed by Volvo India.

The students of Sahyadri would focus on Digital Marketing and backend process for the Conference hence would be trained in Digital Marketing by Planet Ganges, partner of NHRD, free of cost. Mr. Girish Madla and Mr. Ramesh K G, faculty of MBA accompanied the students.

• Production management that incorporates Visual Management, 5 S Processes, Safety and Ergonomic Work Environment
• Material handling practices

Guest Lecture for MBA Marketing & Finance Students on “Insurance Insights”

Sharada Pooja held in the Central Library at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangalore Mr. Nithish Menon, Deputy Chief Manager of Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Ltd addressed the Marketing & Finance Students on “Insurance Insights”. In his talk, he spoke on various myth, individuals carry about Insurance Industry and Sales. He emphasised that Insurance is the most noble and giving profession and has been unfortunately wrongly interpreted on several occasions in the Indian Context. He briefly explained the various Insurance products and their key features. He also gave information on the structure of Insurance Industry and the immense potential of the untapped market in India. He motivated students to take up Sales as their career option as it would be the most rewarding profession. Several queries on issues related to Insurance were attended to, which broadened the career perspective of the students.

“Insight on Startups and Entrepreneurship”, a Guest Talk


Mr. Chethan Ram R A, conducts a One Day Workshop on Personality Development for Sahyadri MBA Students Department of E&C organised a talk on “Startups and Entrepreneurship” by Mr. Guru Prasad, Co-founder, COO, Investor, KoreFabrik Inc, to enhance the knowledge and ideas of the young minds about Startups & Entrepreneurship. The talk was mainly focussed on basic ideas of investment, product ideas, and inputs to attract venture capitalist.

Mr. Guru Prasad appreciated the ambience of Sahyadri in terms of infrastructure, research, innovation & was appreciative about the encouragement given to Startups.

Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, in his presidential remarks stimulated the participants to work towards a holistic approach that contribute to skill development that are crucial being an entrepreneur.

The programme concluded with a Question and Answer session wherein the participants were apprised on various spheres of Startups and Entrepreneurship.

Team Challengers visit Beihang University China as spectators for IARC

Industrial Visit by Mechanical Engineering students Chethan Naik and Ankush Yete from Team Challengers visit Beihang University (Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics), Beijing Capital, China as spectators for International Aerial robotics competition(IARC). The International Aerial Robotics Competition is the longest running collegiate aerial robotics challenge in the world. Entering its third decade of advancing the state of the art in autonomous aerial robotic behaviour, the competition continues to tackle challenges that are currently impossible for any flying robots owned by government or industry.

Guest Talk on “Awareness of LabView”

Industrial Visit by Mechanical Engineering students Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering student association ANnCES organized a technical talk by Sunil Kumar V owner of VI Solutions, an Automation company headquartered at Bangalore. He spoke on “Awareness on LabView”. During his talk he briefed about the importance of lab view programming, designing different modules for academic and industry.

LabVIEW is an integrated development environment designed specifically for engineers and scientists. It is a graphical programming language (G) that uses a dataflow model instead of sequential lines of text code, which empowers us to write functional code using a visual layout that resembles our thought process. This results in reduction of time on semicolons and syntax.

Ms. Laxmi P, Principal, Govinda Dasa P. U. College was the Chief Guest of the formal function . In her speech, she thanked Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management for organising an event like SSTH which gives a forum to younger generation to exhibit their talent.

Ms. Madhu Jali, Department of Physics, Canara P. U. College, Mangaluru, Ms. Vathsala M ,Department of Physics, Govinda Dasa P. U. College, Surathkal and Mr. Sharath Kumar, Assistant Professor, P. G. Centre of Chemistry, Govinda Dasa P. U. College, Surathkal were the judges of the programme. Ms. Suchetha and Ms. Sunita D’Silva, Department of Mathematics, were the co-ordinators of Sahyadri Zonal event.

The event had seen sixty nine participants and it is worth mentioning that six projects were selected for funding.

Team CHALLENGERS registers for SAE International Aerodesign competitions in the United States of America (USA)

Team CHALLENGERS has successfully registered for SAE International Aerodesign West and SAE International Aerodesign East to be held at Fortworth, Texas and Air force Museum, Florida respectively in the month of March and April 2017. The competition is conducted by Lockheed Martin, the manufacturers of US Defence Aircrafts and Outer Space Technologies. The team had previously participated in SAE Aerodesign 2016, however this time it has taken up a challenge to participate in Micro and Regular class Aircraft category. The team consists of selected students from all the branches and semesters.

Industrial Visit by Mechanical Engineering students In order to map theory to practice, students of fifth semester Mechanical Engineering visited Sharavathi and Linganamakki Hydal Power Plant located at Shivamogga. Dr. Manjunath Patel G C, Mr. Ajith B S and Mr. Sandeep M J of SCEM and Mr. Nagaraj (Assistant Engineer of KPCL) explained the complete insight of layout of hydroelectric power plant, working principle and design of turbines and power generation units. Students clarified many queries related to theoretical concepts, construction of dam, gates, turbines, blade design, generator and power supply to load centre. Students had an interactive session with both Mechanical and Electrical Engineers in the Power Plant.
