Chairman meets Mr. Rakesh Sharma Chairman meets Mr. Rakesh Sharma Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation had the pleasure of meeting and interacting with Mr. Rakesh Sharma, the Research Cosmonaut, India. Ms. Deeksha Bhandary had the opportunity of having an autograph of Mr. Rakesh Sharma.

Mr. Sharma was elected to travel into space as a cosmonaut being part of a joint programme by ISRO and the Soviet Intercosmos space programme. On April 2 in 1984, he made his flight aboard the Soyuz T-11 and became the first Indian to achieve this feat. He was conferred with the honour of the Hero of the Soviet Union upon his return from space. He was also felicitated with Ashoka Chakra by the Indian Government.

Session on “Entrepreneurship: An Option or Opportunity” by StartUp Karnataka & TIE Bangalore

Entrepreneurship An Option or Opportunity An introductory session on “Entrepreneurship: An Option or Opportunity?” hosted by StartUp Karnataka & TIE Bangalore was facilitated by Mr. Baliga BS, Member of TIE, Bangalore Chapter, Mr. Uday Birje, Co-Founder of Thinkstreet Technologies & Member of TIE, Bangalore Chapter & Mr. Vikas Goyal, Co-Founder of Thinkstreet Technologies & Member of TIE, Bangalore Chapter.

Entrepreneurship An Option or Opportunity Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation, in his introductory note, stressed on the importance of holding this programme at Sahyadri. He re-iterated the current scenario with regards to declining employment opportunities and the need to transform as Job Creators rather than Job Seekers. He appreciated the initiative of the guests to contribute to the society by driving entrepreneurship as a culture so that the next generation do not have to go through hardships in building their career. He mentioned that we are in the era of closing companies as the StartUps are winding up due to lack of structure, mentoring and contribution. He expressed his aim to start TIE Mangaluru Chapter in Sahyadri and take it to a level that is globally recognised.

Mr. Baliga BS in his session on “Introduction to TIE & Role of TIE in developing Entrepreneurs” mentioned that the Government is facing challenges in providing job opportunities to the graduates and are driving Entrepreneurship immensely. By being entrepreneurs we are adding to the GDP of the nation which is the biggest contribution one can give to the country. He spoke about TIE and its success story resulting from mentoring and educating entrepreneurs.

Mr. Uday Birje in his session on “Innovation & entrepreneurship, StartUp Karnataka & StartUp India Schemes” urged the students to be Leaders than a follower and mentioned that through innovation and StartUp, one can lead a team and become a leader.

Mr. Vikas Goyal, in his session on “Demystifying Marketing for StartUps” gave information about the process how a StartUp can be made sustainable by recognising the idea, anticipating about the idea and satisfy the objectives from idea, followed by what start ups can avoid.

Entrepreneurship An Option or Opportunity TIE Global founded in 1992 in Silicon Valley by a group of successful entrepreneurs, corporate executives, and senior professionals has its roots in the Indus region. There are currently 13,000 members, including over 2,500 charter members in 61 chapters across 18 countries. TiE’s mission is to foster entrepreneurship globally through mentoring, networking, education, incubating, and funding. Dedicated to the virtuous cycle of wealth creation and giving back to the community, TiE’s focus is on generating and nurturing our next generation of entrepreneurs. Interested students & Faculty are invited to participate in this session.

Guest Lecture for MBAs - “Impact of Psychology on Learning & Development”

Guest-Lecture-for-MBAs---“Impact-of-Psychology-on-Learning-&-Development” Prof. Sandra Lobo, Head of Department-Psychology, School of Social Works, Roshni Nilaya, Valencia, Mangaluru, addressed the second year MBA HR students on the topic “Impact of Psychology on Learning & Development”. She briefed the students on the linkage of Psychology and Learning & Development and also stated the various models of Learning. She gave several real life examples to emphasize the importance of the subject and urged the students to nurture their people skills to become a successful HR Professional. In her session, she also spoke on the influence of the age factor on the learning cycle. She advised students to follow conventions and ethics throughout their career and pursue it with passion and endless learning. The session was concluded with a brief question & answer. Students were overwhelmed by the knowledge of the speaker & thanked her for her insightful presentation.

It had a wide array of events spanning all technical domains, speaker series & workshops on the hot topics from technical world which included technical events like Albatross, Death race, Aqua GT, Dirt race, Amazed, league of Machines, Hack-a-holic, The Debugger, Transpoter, Sky Scrappers, Bob the builder, MindKraft & Aqua Strike.

MBAs visit NMPT, Mangaluru

MBAs visit NMPT MBAs visited New Mangalore Port Trust, Mangaluru to give students an insight into exports & imports from the port and to interact with the employees of NMPT, Mangaluru. Students interacted with multiple ship crews from various countries and understood the mechanism of marine life aboard. A total of 14 students along with 2 faculty members visited the port.

Campus Recruitment Drive by KPMG GDC

Campus Recruitment Drive by KPMG GDC KPMG GDC, conducted the campus recruitment test for the MBA students. 57 students from Finance specialisation participated in the drive. The shortlisted students will be having the final round of selection process tomorrow at Sahyadri Campus. Mr. Subbarao Bangaru, Mr.Guruprasad and HR team of KPMG-GDC will be visiting the campus for the final round of selection process.

Guest talk for Mechanical Students

Guest-talk-for-Mechanical-Students Mr. Naveen Nazareth spoke to the students of third year Mechanical Engineering on work culture in an Industry / Company. He explained about the production, Quality, R&D Departments and also on handling Technical and Management difficulties in a company.
He spoke on opportunities in Germany for students who are seeking to work in industries. He encouraged students to have an aim in life and to keep working until the goal is reached. "No shortcut for Success, Hard work is a must". Naveen Nazareth graduated from TU Berlin and currently placed in Siltronic AG located in Burghausen, Germany. He worked as a Project and Maintenance Engineer for 20 months at Jindal Steel Works Limited. Out of 8 months of his internship experience, 5 months has been in Germany & the remaining 3 months in India.

MBAs visit Mphasis Pvt Ltd, Mangaluru MBA (HR Specialization) students had been to Mphasis Pvt Ltd, Mangaluru on an exposure visit to interact with the industry experts in the managerial position. Mr. Ben Subbarao, HR Business Partner spoke to the students on the expectations of Corporate Business houses from the MBA - HR’s. He emphasised that HR Analytics is the need of the hour and was delighted to know that few students had already pursued a project on HR Analytics in a Health Care sector. He ascertained the count of students who are flexible to pursue their career outside Mangaluru since Mphasis Pvt Ltd would soon conduct campus recruitment drives for MBAs and place students in their corporate offices outside Mangaluru. He was amused to see that majority of the students are passionate about their role in HR and are flexible to start their career anywhere in India and abroad. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director & Prof. Sushma V from the Department of Business Administration accompanied the students during the visit.

Monsoon camp hosted by DTLabz

Monsoon camp hosted by DTLabz Monsoon camp was hosted by DTLabz during 19th to 22nd of October 2017.

The theme for the camp was to see a transformation in the children behavior i.e., Metanoia and there were 48 campers belonging to 10-14 age group. The first day’s theme was Exploring the artist in every child where Mr. Johnson Tellis began the day with an ice breaker game. Post this the campers were introduced to their mentors. He taught the campers about mind mapping and the benefits of having your goals sketched out pictorically. Mr. Gautham Nayak taught how to sketch their ideas more creatively and gave the campers an experience how to convert their ideas into a prototype using onshape software. The campers were given a chance to have their own keychains.

The second day focused on Exploring the programmer in every camper. The day began with an ice breaker involving all which brought out team spirit and bonding amongst them. Mr. Sachin Ganesh taught the campers about Flowcharts, Arduino, Servo, LED, LDR, Bluetooth, and M block. The objective was to develop love for coding by understanding the concept of writing a flow chart and algorithms. The afternoon session was enjoyed by the campers as Mr. Shrajan Bhandary taught to develop their own application. The objective of this session was to bring out their confidence in coding. The campers bonded with their mentors by having a small activity.

Monsoon-camp-hosted-by-DTLabz During the Day 3 of Monsoon Camp, the theme was to explore the Maker in every child. Mr. Johnson Tellis showed the campers how to assemble a robot. The objective of this activity was to encourage campers to show interest towards science, understand the concepts and make projects. Mr. Gautham Nayak facilitated a session on designing visiting cards and make power point presentation using Canva software. Further, Mr. Sujay demonstrated how to edit a video using Video studio Corel X10. In a session on - “Why Presentation?”, Mr. Johnson Tellis enlightened the campers as to why presentation is important and how to present one’s self in front of the audience. The day concluded with playing Dodge Ball.

During the Day 4, the theme was “Exploring the real you” which saw transformation in the campers. The campers were given time to prepare for their presentation where they learned how to face the audience, how to express their words through actions, to be confident and have faith in oneself. The special event was ‘Clash of Robots’ in which campers had an actual feeling of an event. The objective of this event was to learn what team spirit is, how to accept failure and be happy with the success. The joy of wining is obtained after a certain amount of failures. The camps main attraction was the presentation given by the kids without knowing the fact that their parents are actually watching it LIVE at another venue. The camp was a huge success as many of the parents gave a positive feedback and the camp concluded with a photo session.

Founder of A1 Logics speaks to the MBAs

Mr. Praveen Udupa, founder and technical director of A1 Logics, Software Company addressed the MBA Students. Mr. Praveen Udupa is a B.E and has also done M.Tech. He spoke to students on the challenges of being an entrepreneur and the skills required to be successful as an entrepreneur. Students were given tips on how to choose the right strategies for business and how to be self motivated. He also urged the students to work hard and be successful in life. This session was organized to develop students as leaders.

Ms. Sinchana Deva of first semester, Computer Science & Engineering Branch is a multi-talented student. She has won ‘Rashtrapathi Guide Award’ held at Davangere in the year 2016 felicitated by the ‘President of India’ and ‘Rajya Puraskar Award’ in the year 2015 felicitated by Governor of Karnataka. She has also secured ‘Senior Grade’ in Bharatnatyam in the year 2014 conducted by Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board.

Mr. K Rakeeb Hussain of first Semester, Mechanical Engineering Branch is a Karate Champion. He has won 1st Place in Kumite & 2nd place in Kata in National Level Competition held at Haveri organized by All India Okinawa Gojo Ryu Karate Do Haveri in 2015. Also, 1st place in Kumite & 2nd place in Kata in State Level Competition held at Mangaluru organized by Institute of Karate & Allied Arts in 2014.
