Hacktoberfest HackNight hosted at SahyadriHacktoberfest HackNight hosted at Sahyadri SOSC hosted Hacktoberfest HackNight in association with K-Tech Innovation Hub at Sahyadri to celebrate the month of open source with Hacktoberfest. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Shashank Krishna, Padma Shri 2019 (Nominee) and Director of Katmai Infotechnology Pvt. Ltd, Bengaluru, followed by interaction with students regarding Smart India Hackathon. Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal; Prof. Prakhyath Rai, Faculty Coordinator of Sahyadri Open Source Community and Mr. Arjun Suvarna, Chairperson of Sahyadri Open Source Community, addressed the crowd. The main event started off with a workshop followed by an 18-hour Hackathon where around 120+ students got together as teams and worked on projects under various domains like Education, Entertainment and Productivity to help innovate and enhance the current system. The projects were then open sourced through GitHub paving way for new open source contributors to be born. Mr. Manjesh P Shetty, Regional Coordinator of Mozilla and Alumnus of Sahyadri, was the Chief Guest of the valedictory function.

Winners under the domain Education were: 1st place – Akash; Likith R; Prayag Raj and Jaison Dsouza B, 2nd place – Hussain Muhammad Bilal; S Deepak Amin; Dhanush and Vaishak M S Winners under the domain Entertainment: 1st place – Thanay; Swasthik Shetty; Rachitha Rai and Sanath Raj, 2nd place - Shanal Mohammad and Shibani Pinto.

First-year Engineering students secure third place in Chemical Breakdown Quiz event at Reflux-2018 organized by NITK- Surathkal

Ms. Maithri Vishnu Hebbar; Ms. Ashitha K and Ms. Rithika of 1st year Engineering won third place in the flagship event called Chemical Breakdown of Reflux 2018, an inter-collegiate technical fest organized by NIT-Karnataka, Surathkal. The event had three rounds consisting of Aptitude test, Picture Connect and Treasure Hunt.

Engineer 2018 In the event ‘Engineer 2018’ held at NITK, Suratkal, first year engineering students won 1st and 2nd place in light follower. There were 2 light follower bot from Sahyadri. The team won 2nd, 3rd and 4th place in line follower out of 5 bot from Sahyadri. The team was mentored by Hrithvik Patel from 2nd year Electronics & Communication Engineering and Lakshmeesha P Kotian from 2nd year Computer Science & Engineering.

Dept. of Electronics and Communication Engineering organizes an event at Navodaya High School, Bettampady, Puttur Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized a One-Day event on “Introduction to Electronics Engineering” at Navodaya High School, Bettampady, Puttur to create awareness on engineering. During the event, various sessions were conducted related to basics of electronic circuits, circuit debugging and hands on experiment. Students were divided into several groups and were assigned with two mentors each. Students were briefed about RLC circuits and semiconductor devices followed by quiz and experiments on semiconductor devices. The students were also given heads up on various scholarship schemes like NMMS and NTSE. Ravishankar, an alumnus of Navodaya School, currently studying in final year ECE at Sahyadri (placed in Infosys) along with students from third semester and faculty members were part of the daylong event.

The Management and Staff of Navodaya High School appreciated the initiative from the Department of ECE in motivating rural students and helping them understand the fundamentals of electronics engineering. Further, they expressed their interest to visit Sahyadri and stay connected with the institution.

Sahyadrians recruited by Infosys

Sahyadrians recruited by Infosys A total of 76 Sahyadrians have been recruited by Infosys. Thirty Six students from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering; Twenty students from the Department of Information Science & Engineering; Ten students from the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering; Nine students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and one student from the Department of Civil Engineering have been selected for the position of Associate System Engineer with a package of Rs. 3.6 Lakhs per annum in the recently held campus recruitment drive.

Sahyadrians recruited by IBM Sahyadrians recruited by IBM A total of 104 Sahyadrians have been recruited by IBM. Fifty Seven students from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering; Thirty Three students from the Department of Information Science & Engineering and Fourteen students from the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering have been selected for the position of Associate System Engineer with a package of Rs. 4.1 Lakhs per annum in the recently held campus recruitment drive.

MBAs win 1st place in ‘BIZLYTICS’ event held at NITK, Surathkal

BIZLYTICS Shrikantha S and Shanthi A from 1st year MBA won 1st place in ‘BIZLYTICS’ event held at NITK, Surathkal. In the first round, they had 30 multiple choice questions relating to business with the time limit of 1 hour. In the second round, they were given 3 questions and had to develop a flow chart based on it. Participants scoring 50% aggregate in both the rounds qualified for the third round. In the third round, they were given raw data relating to sales of nearly 500 entries. They had a task to analyze the data and also interpret using charts. They also had to do a 7-minute presentation and provide solutions to increase sales. In the final round, they were given a hypothetical situation of having 60 crores and form an IPL team with 15 players consisting of 9 Indian players and 6 foreign players.

MBAs secure first place in ImpeDATAtive Event at “ETTIN 2k18” organized by JKSHIM, Nitte

Thirty Eight MBAs recruited by KPMG–GDC Nagarjun M H and Sanjana Cion won 1st place in ImpeDATAtive event at “ETTIN 2K18” organized by JKSHIM, Nitte.

The event consisted of four rounds in which they had to prepare 2 PPT presentations, one Case Study and lastly DATA Analysis. Here, the participants were given series of data and they had to filter out the unwanted data and then guess the companies based on the data which they have collected. The PPTs had to be submitted before 6 am on the final day of ETTIN 2k18 and the presentations had to be given at 9 am in front of resource persons who took it upon them to distract and cross question the presenters.


Sahyadri team was well appreciated by the organizers of ETTIN 2k18 during their Valedictory ceremony since Sahyadri was the only college which had students from 1st year MBA representing the institution. In addition to this, they were a good competition and also won 1st place in one of the most challenging events of the fest.

A total of 30 students from the MBA Department and Engineering took part in the recently held “Vaividyathe” - Infosys Variety Competition. “Vaividyathe” is the cultural fest conducted by Infosys on the account of Dasara celebrations. Team Sahyadri have secured first Runner-Up in the variety competition.


Workshop on PCB Design organized by Dept. of Electronics and Communication Engineering

Workshop on PCB Design organized Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized PCB design workshop with the initiation and support from Principal Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte. The objective of the workshop was to help the second year students render better circuit designs for their projects. Prof. Ashwin Kumar, Dept. of Electronics and Communication Engineering gave an insight in to PCB Design, giving the students a brief overview on components, Simulators and Fabrication process. The third year students of Electronics and Communication Engineering were the mentors for the second year students.

The first session was on PCB layout design using Eagle CAD software in which the 2nd year students designed PCB layout for various electronic circuits. In the afternoon session, the circuit designed by the students was transferred to the PCB board. Chemical etching of copper using Ferric Chloride solution, Testing the connection using multimeter and soldering the components as per the design was effectively carried out. Students were able to practically experience the process involved in Designing and implementing a circuit which was demonstrated in the workshop.
