Mr. Rajkiran Rai G, Managing Director and CEO of Union Bank of India, was at the campus to address the 1st year MBA students on 12th Oct’19. Prior to his elevation as Managing Director & CEO, he was the Executive Director of Oriental Bank of Commerce. Mr. Rajkiran Rai G is a graduate in Agricultural Science and also a Certified member of Indian Institute of Bankers. He has more than three decades of rich banking experience including heading Industrial Finance Branch, Regions and Zonal Offices. He started his career as an Agricultural Finance Officer in Central Bank of India. He was also serving on the Board of Canara, HSBC, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Life Insurance Co. Ltd.

Chairman urged the students to keenly observe the personality of Mr. Rajkiran and then the position he holds. He acknowledged that Mr. Rai is one of the very few contemporaries of his who achieved the goal as planned with utmost Clarity, Dedication and Commitment. He said Mr. Rai is a perfect example of attaining success in multi-disciplinary field - Education in Agricultural Science and Excellence in Banking Sector. He referred to Mr. Rai as a custodian of crores of money belonging to people. In an interactive session, Mr. Rajkiran Rai G expressed how happy he was to address the Young India who is closer to being a CEO as they are MBAs. He answered queries of the students giving powerful messages for them to inculcate during the course of MBA studies.

Inauguration of Student Council for the Academic Year 2019-20 Sahyadri Student Council for the Academic Year 2019-20 was inaugurated on 12th October 2019 by Mr. Abhinandan Shetty, Former District Governor, Rotary International who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The inaugural commenced with the opening remarks by Chairman, Mr.Manjunath Bhandary who spoke on the importance, roles and relevance of student council and that their involvement in the council can improve their leadership skills. The Chief Guest then inaugurated the student council by watering the plant. This was followed by the distribution of sache and rose to the heads of council as a symbolic gesture of initiation. Our Principal, Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte lead the council members through oath.

He mentioned that we live in the world given to us by someone and its our duty to give our next generation the better world. He also emphasized on turning the failure as the stepping stone for success.

‘Cricket Tournament’ organized by Friendship Cup, Mangaluru at Sahyadri River-Side Cricket Ground Friendship Cup, Mangaluru had organized a ‘Cricket Tournament’ on 12th Oct’19 at Sahyadri River-side Cricket Ground. The Chief Guests for the event were Smt P V Bharathi, MD & CEO of Corporation Bank; Shri Rajkiran Rai G, MD & CEO of Union Bank of India; Shri J Packirisamy, MD & CEO of Andhra Bank and Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman-Bhandary Foundation. Other dignitaries present on the dais were Mr. D K Garg, Executive Director of Union Bank of India; Mr. Birupaksha Mishra, Executive Director, Corporation Bank; Mr. Vijay Kumar, Chief Vigilance Officer of Corporation Bank; Mr. B Sreenivasa Rao, Field General Manager-Union Bank of India, Bengaluru; Mr. Chandramohan Reddy, General Manager, Andhra Bank. The organizer of the event in his introductory speech mentioned the motive of organizing this tournament. The participating teams for the event were Union Bank of India, Corporation Bank and Andhra Bank.

With the prime objective of encouraging International Internships for students, Sahyadri has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AIESEC INDIA providing a global platform for young people to explore and develop leadership potential. The MoU formalizes the mutual interaction and strengthens the relationship between Sahyadri and AIESEC by providing students with the opportunity to live a shared responsibility for the world and equip them with the tools to shape it for a better future. It shall also, focus on creating a youth movement to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by the year 2030.

This MoU was signed by Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal and Dr. Anush Bekal, In-charge Industry Connect with Mr. Dhruvraaj Singh Rajvee, Business Expansions Head and Mr. Manan Shah, Entrepreneurship Exchanges In-charge of AIESEC (C/o Manipal Academy of Higher Education, MIT campus, Manipal).

Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering organized a Technical talk by Mr. Akash Prabhakar, Software Developer, ThermoFisher Scientific, Bengaluru about “The walk through on industry” on 9th Oct’19. The take away from the talk includes why to choose IT, Types of Companies, Application work flow, Application Stack, Scum team, Soft skills. The speaker also gave insights on the major industry projects.

Mr. Akash started his career in Evry India and worked for 4 years. He is now working for a US-based company named ThermoFisher Scientific, Bengaluru.

Alumni are the ambassadors of an institution and have responsibility towards academic and research oriented initiatives of their alma mater. The department organizes Alumni Meet every year to bring back the alumni to the campus, spend quality time with the faculty, view the growth of the institution in person, keep abreast of the progress the institution is making in terms of quality of education it is imparting and contribute to the continuous improvement of the institution wherever possible.

A get-together of Sahyadri MBA alumni was held on 5th Oct’19. The Mega event began with a formal programme. Prof. Ramesh K G, Dean-Strategic Planning welcomed the gathering and Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA addressed the alumni, highlighting the latest developments and initiatives of the department. Mr. Roopesh Salian, the Chief Guest of the occasion is an alumnus from the 1st batch of Sahyadri MBA. Currently, he is a Senior Business Process Improvement Analyst at Northern Trust. Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal re-iterated the role, an alumni plays in the overall development of the institution.

Games were organized and prizes were distributed. The programme concluded with alumni sharing their experiences and memories as students at Sahyadri and finally got onto the dance floor followed by a Gala Dinner.

Mr. Ashwin Shetty has joined Sahyadri and takes charge as the Institute Centre Manager of the NAIN Centre effective 10th Oct’19.

In commemoration of World Mental Health Day, Sahyadri NSS Unit and Sahyadri Health and Counselling Centre organized “Dance Movement Relaxation Therapeutic Session” for the teaching and non-teaching staff. The session was facilitated by Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor at Netravati Auditorium on 9th Oct’19. The session was designed to relieve stress through use of basic dance movements with the fusion of Yoga Asanas. The faculty participated enthusiastically in the session.

In commemoration of World Mental Health day on 10th Oct’19, an Awareness programme on the topic of “Mental Illness - Myths and Misconceptions” was conducted for the First year MBA students by Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor. Poster display on Prevention of Suicide was prepared by Ms. Pavithra, a student of 3rd year Computer Science & Engineering. The awareness session on mental health helped the students to understand mental health concepts, Sign and Symptoms of mental illness, causes, prevention and remedies for mental illness.

ACM Sahyadri Student Chapter Inaugurated ACM Sahyadri Student Chapter was launched in Sahyadri on 11th Oct’19 in the presence of Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal; Dr. J.V. Gorabal, Head of Computer Science and Engineering Department and the Chief Guest Ms. Samyuktha Prabhu (Current GirlScript Regional Head of Karnataka) under the banner of MHRDs Institutional Innovation Council-Sahyadri.

ACM Sahyadri is the first chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery in Sahyadri. During the leadership talk by the Chief Guest on "Opportunities and Career through ACM", Ms. Samyuktha gave a glimpse of the functioning of ACM-W Chapter Manipal, different events that can be hosted by the ACM Chapters, various scholarships available through ACM, how to build a perfect resume, benefits of ACM chapters and many more. The website of ACM Sahyadri i.e., acmsahyadri.cf was also launched during the event.

Campus Recruitment Drive - Semnox Solutions Pvt Ltd. Semnox Solutions Pvt Ltd. conducted a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive on 9th Oct’19 for the Engineering students of 2020 outgoing batch. A Four-member team from Semnox were at the campus to facilitate the recruitment process. Around 188 students from pool colleges participated in the drive and the results are awaited.

Dept of Business Administration-MBA organized a Discussion on the Union Budget 2019-20 on 11th October, 2019. The students undertook various sectors and analyzed the positive and negative aspects of the budget. Dr. Wajeeda Bano, Department of Economics at Mangalore University, briefed about the budget from an economist’s point of view. She also stressed on the fact that as a responsible citizen of the nation we have to analyze a budget from the point of an economist and financial expert rather than saying a budget is good or bad. Nation comes first and as citizens we should help the government in achieving the vision of our country by implementing the programs and schemes in a better manner. This programme was organized to analyze the various programmes and schemes announced in Budget 2019-20 presented by Hon’ble Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman aimed at promoting agriculture, industry, services, international trade, etc. and generate employment and spur the growth in the economy.

Fourth session of 3D Printing and Robotics Vertical

Inauguration of Sahyadri Management Students Association (SMSA)  The fourth session of 3D Printing and Robotics Vertical was held on 5th Oct’19. The session was facilitated at the Caliper Industry. Mr. Dennis Pinto briefed about the configuration and application of robotics on the different industrial scenarios and highlighted few of the industrial robots involved in the manufacturing process. The demonstration on the working of MIG welding robot was also showed to the participants.

Sharada Pooja held in Sahyadri Central Library

Inauguration of Sahyadri Management Students Association (SMSA)  On the occasion of Navarathi, Sharada Pooja was organized by the Library staff in the Central Library on 5th Oct’19. The students and faculty of Sahyadri came together to seek the blessings of the goddess of knowledge, music, art and culture.

The ritual was graced with the presence of Mr. Devadas Hegde, Trustee; Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal; Prof. Balakrishna S S, Vice-Principal; Mr. Ramesh Hegde, Finance Officer and all the teaching & non-teaching staff and students.

Notification from - Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) NEAT Logo Contest

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has conceptualized National Education Alliance for Technologies (NEAT) as a Scheme for using technology to make learning more personalized and customized. NEAT would deliver Education Technology solutions directly to the students and educational institutions, through a National NEAT portal, giving learners a wide choice to select the technological solution that would suit their requirement, thereby, improving their overall learning outcomes.

To give a visual identity to the Scheme, MHRD is inviting entries for logo design, which may convey the purpose of NEAT.

Theme for Logo: Quality Education, Technology, Alliance, Adaptive learning, Artificial Intelligence. The Logo can be in full name format (National Educational Alliance for Technology) or abbreviation format (NEAT) or both.

Last date for submission is 25th October 2019.
