Sahyadrians recruited by Cognizant A total of 50 students were recruited by Cognizant for the position of Programmer Analyst Trainee, in the recently held Campus Recruitment Drive. At this, Sahyadri stands to have the maximum number of students recruited by this company in the entire Mangaluru region.

Out of the fifty students recruited, a record number of 31 students are from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, nine are from the Department of Information Science & Engineering, seven from the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering and 3 from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The pay package offered is Rs 4 Lakhs per annum.

Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Fabrication Facility at Sahyadri Campus Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Fabrication Facility at Sahyadri Campus On the account of Innovation Day Campaign and 88th birth anniversary celebration of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management (SCEM) in association with Research Design Lab (RDL) Pvt.Ltd and under the banner of Sahyadri Institute Innovation Council (IIC) inaugurated the in-house Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Fabrication Lab Center of Excellence (CoE). PCB an essential component of all electronic devices, gadgets, Mobile, Laptop, TV, UPS, etc. PCB integrates various components to make the complete product. To date, students of SCEM for the projects and RDL for proof of concept (POC) had to depend on external agencies for realizing the circuit which consumes time, cost and efforts.

Mr. Raghavendra G Shetty, Founder and CEO, RDL Technologies; Dr. Ashwath Rao, HOD-ECE and Dr. Anush Bekal, In-charge Industry Connect & Vice President of IIC along with staffs of RDL and students of SCEM were present during the occasion.

This lab will enable idea to rapid prototyping for both single and double side PCB’s in less than 30 minutes and facilitate Industry Connect Program to provide hands-on experience with PCB fabrication. Additionally, this facility will help RDL reduce POC delivery time and improve customer response and satisfaction.

The prestigious event Hacktoberfest HackNight hosted at Sahyadri The prestigious event Hacktoberfest HackNight hosted at Sahyadri In order to celebrate the month of open source with Hacktoberfest, Sahyadri Open Source Community (SOSC) in association with Aptra Technologies Pvt Ltd hosted the event Hacktoberfest HackNight at Sahyadri during 12th to 13th Oct’19. Dr. R. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal, presided over the event. Prof. Prashanth Dudella, SPOC Coordinator-Smart India Hackathon, and Ms. Navya Bhat, Chairperson–SOSC, were also present.

Sahyadri Open Source Community (SOSC) is a community driven by tech enthusiasts and open-source contributors, to help young students to be part of the open-source ecosystem by providing training and skill development.

In his address, Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte spoke on what Hactoberfest is all about and encouraged students to participate wholeheartedly. Prof. Prashanth Dudella, spoke about the importance of hackathons and gave insights on how to crack Smart India Hackathon.

The prestigious event Hacktoberfest HackNight hosted at Sahyadri The main event started off with a workshop followed by an 18-hour Hackathon wherein more than 120 students got together as teams and worked on projects under various real life problem statement given by organizations. The projects were then open sourced through GitHub paving way for new open source contributors to be born. There was also an opportunity given to the participants to solve problem statement and get Internship in Aptra.

Inauguration of CLOUDS 2019-20Inauguration of CLOUDS 2019-20 Dr J V Gorabal, Head of Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering inaugurated the activities of Computer Legends of Unified Department @ Sahyadri (CLOUDS) for the Academic Year 2019-2020. He delivered the inaugural speech and welcomed the second year students into the department. Prof. Sudheer Shetty, Dean–Examination, addressed the students and spoke on the importance of National Board of Accreditation. Prof. Shailesh Shetty S, Staff Coordinator, Mr. Darshan Shetty, Vice-President–CLOUDS and Ms. Anvitha Rai, General Secretary-CLOUDS were present on the occasion. Academic Toppers were felicitated at the event.

The formal function was followed by cultural events from staff and students. Variety competition was conducted among the students of various sections of Computer Science & Engineering in which students of ‘B’ Section, 5th Semester, emerged as winners. Students of ‘C’ Section were runners-up.

Prof. Sushma V along with two of the MBA HR students - Ismail Rishan and Josvina Machado attended the workshop as participants. Prevention Of Sexual Harassment (POSH) is the need of the hour and the Act of 2013 requires that every organization with 10 or more women employees should strictly adhere to the POSH Guidelines.

The team intends to facilitate an Awareness Programme on POSH at Sahyadri for its staff members and are also exploring opportunities to conduct Training Programmes on POSH to other organizations as well.

MBAs conduct Training as a part of their Curriculum Assignment at Government First Grade College, Bantwal As a part of the Assignment in Learning & Development Subject, HR Students of 2nd year MBA facilitated a Training Programme for the final year B.Com and M.Com students of Government First Grade College, Bantwal. The sessions aimed to improve Communication Skills. Students shared insights on performing in a Group Discussion and also imparted activity-based session on Interview Skills through Mock interview. They also shared tips on how to crack an interview and conducted team building activities emphasizing on the importance of Team Work.

“India First Leadership Talk Series” LIVE streamed at Sahyadri

India First Leadership Talk SeriesIndia First Leadership Talk Series Institute Innovation Council of Sahyadri, established by the Ministry of Human Resources Department (MHRD), organized a LIVE streaming of “India First Leadership Talk Series” on 12th Oct’19. The session was delivered by Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. The theme of the Talk Series was “Innovation for Resurgent India”.

Faculty members and students attended this live session. Dr. Pokhriyal began his talk on the importance of time management. He explained to the audience that there is no substitute for time management, whatsoever. If one needs to succeed, one needs to manage time effectively.

Moving ahead, questions like the importance of leadership skills and what exactly are leadership skills, were addressed. This indeed helped everyone present, to understand the term leader and leadership in depth.

Dr. Pokhriyal also shared his daily schedule with the audience and highlighted the importance of writing in his life. He encouraged everyone to find out that one thing which motivates them and very beautifully explained why and how one needs to stay motivated. The current scenario in the education system was discussed with special emphasis on practical learning and the need to produce more and more entrepreneurs as compared to the managers.

The talk proved to be of great help to all present there. It provided a vision, motivation and a will to achieve anything and everything in the coming days and make our nation a better place to live in.

MBAs attend Outbound Training at Nature Bound Sahyadri, AnkolaMBAs attend Outbound Training at Nature Bound Sahyadri, Ankola A total of 125 students from first year MBA accompanied with 3 faculty members participated in the “Outbound Experiential Business Management Training Module” at ‘Nature Bound Sahyadri Camp’ in Ankola. The course was organized for value forming experiences through adventure and challenge, Compassion and Service, Learning through experience and social and environmental responsibility.

The course facilitated experiences through activities and games to get a practical insight to individual behaviour and group dynamics. The purpose was to reflect upon desired responses and experiment them in real time situations and further reflect on what to expect from future experiences. The students were divided into nine teams and each team was allotted with a trainer. As soon as the students entered into the camp they had to deposit all the gadgets and hence had to stay away from digital life for three days. The students also had to stay in tents.

The whole-day event included activities related to communication, adventure, scavenging and navigation in forest using navigation compass. It also included briefing sessions on personality development, smart thinking, development and application of strategies.

MBAs attend Outbound Training at Nature Bound Sahyadri, Ankola The students had to challenge themselves when they were tested with physical endurance and also logical thinking. Students returned with a positive feedback and also expressed their confidence to stay away from the digital gadgets for more hours. The course has definitely brought in changes in personal and professional behavioural pattern of students and helped in reinforcing the theories and principles studied in the classroom.

The objective of the assignment was to deliver the theory learnt in class in terms of Training Process from Planning till Implementation stage including follow up & Feedback.

They covered topics on Communication, Resume Building, Group Discussion and Face to Face Interview. They also conducted Mock GD and Face to Face Interview which enhanced the learning outcome.

Hospital & Research Centre, and A.J. Cancer Institute, Mangaluru in collaboration with Indian Cancer Society, Bengaluru, organized the "Breast Cancer Awareness Talk" on 17th Oct’19. The talk was essentially for the female teaching, non-teaching staff and students. The Talk was delivered by Dr. Rachan Shetty, Consultant Oncologist, A.J. Cancer Institute, Mangaluru. Dr. Rachan Shetty comes with an extensive experience in solid tumour oncology, treatment of breast, lung, liver, gastrointestinal, head and neck and gynaecological malignancy.

In his talk, Dr. Rachan Shetty explained in detail about the causes of breast cancer, risk factors, screening methods, early detection and the need for a reliable permanent cure. While talking about breast cancer statistics, he said that Breast cancer is the most commonly occurring cancer in women and the second most common cancer overall. Every year, over a million cases of breast cancer are reported.

Dr. Shetty effectively responded to the questions asked, by which the audience got clarification and enhanced their knowledge. A video on self-examinations, mammograms and other tests was also played for the benefit of the audience, in order to support the spoken words.

SLK Software Services Pvt Ltd. conducted a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive on 16th & 17th of Oct’ 2019, for the engineering students of 2020 outgoing batch. A Six -member recruitment team from SLK, were at the campus to facilitate the entire process. Around 800 students from pool colleges participated in the Drive.

“Dotnet core and Multithreading” - Industry Expert Talk The Dept. of Information Science & Engineering organized an industry expert talk for the third year students on 12th Oct’19. Mr. Vasudevan, Software Engineer, RSA, Bengaluru, was the resource person. He has an industry experience of 4 years.

Mr. Vasudevan took up a session on “Dotnet core and Multithreading”. He briefed the students regarding the current industry needs, importance of good practices in programming and new project ideas. He gave a glimpse of the projects he is currently undertaking at RSA. He also stressed on the fact that learning is a never-ending process and called on the students to inculcate the habit of learning new things.

Expert talk on Agriculture held as a part Social Innovation Programme As a part Social Innovation Program, an expert talk on Horticulture Sector was held in campus on 18th Oct’ 2019. Mr. Sathyashankar K. and Mr. Muralikrishna K., founders of Kalpa Agri Service, Puttur addressed the first year engineering students. Kalpa Agri Service along with ARS Engineering has developed a coconut dehusking machine which can dehusk 800-1000 coconuts in one hour.

The founders gave awareness about various value added products that can be developed from coconut. They also stressed the importance of mechanization in horticulture sector and motivated the students to develop solutions that can add value to the farmers in the region.

Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt (SSTH) Ideation event at Lady Hill Victoria PU College In order to encourage students in solving community-based problems and developing problem solving skills in them, an ideation event was facilitated by Mr. Gautham Nayak and Mr. Akshay P N at Lady Hill Victoria PU College on 17th Oct19. A total of 130 students attended the session which indulged them in different cases of Ideation - understanding the problems of stakeholders by doing inclusive research and eventually defining the problem to come up with a solution as a part of upcoming event Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt (SSTH). SSTH would witness 400 ideas at the Grand Finale focussing on community-based problems.
