Officials from Karnataka Information Technology Service (KITS) visited Sahyadri

 Inauguration of STAISE for the Academic Year 2019-20Inauguration of STAISE for the Academic Year 2019-20 Mr. Prashanth Kumar, IAS, Managing Director, KITS along with Dr. Basanthi B.S., General Manager, KAS, visited Sahyadri on 25th Oct'19. Mr. Ashwin Shetty, Manager, NAIN Incubation Centre, facilitated their visit.

The guests interacted with the Chairman and with the Principal. They also interacted with Mr. Prashanth Duddela They visited the various innovative labs, in-house start-ups and student-centric initiatives of Sahyadri. They also assessed NAIN projects and were happy with the projects presented by students at NAIN centre.

At the end of their visit, they had nothing but deep admiration for the campus and lauded the chairman on his excellent commitment in building an institute of such a magnitude.

Distinguished Professor of AICTE-INAE interacts with students & faculty of Mechanical Engineering Distinguished Professor of AICTE-INAE interacts with students & faculty of Mechanical Engineering Prof. S. Seetharamu, Technical Advisor for National Design Research Forum (NDRF) and Former Director, Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), Bengaluru, visited the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 24th Oct’19. His visit relates to planning of student activities under the AICTE-INAE Distinguished Visiting Professorship Scheme.

Prof. Seetharamu has been selected as AICTE-INAE Distinguished Visiting Professor for the Department of Mechanical Engineering of our institute under the above scheme for a period of one year starting from June 2019 to May 2020, which is extendable up to 5 years as industry expert.

Prof. Seetharamu interacted with the students of Mechanical Engineering and talked about various avenues for career growth in mechanical engineering. He also covered topics on material science, metallurgy and energy. He then visited AI Lab and discussed about introducing AI to mechanical engineering. He also interacted with the faculty and advised them to take up industrial consultancy assignments in the future.

 Workshop on ‘Cyber Safe Campus’Workshop on ‘Cyber Safe Campus’ Center of Excellence Cyber Security and Institute's Innovation Council - Sahyadri in association with ACM-Sahyadri organized a workshop on Cyber Safe Campus on 26th Oct’19, for the first year engineering students.

The workshop was presided over by Dr. Ananth Prabhu G., Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering. He is a Guest Faculty of Cyber Security at Karnataka Judicial Academy and Police Academy. Mrs. Shreelatha, Academic Administrative Officer (AAO) and Dr. Anush Bekal, Vice-President IIC-Sahyadri, graced the event.

Dr. Prabhu is a very dynamic personality and also a motivational speaker. In his talk, he gave insight into some very common mistakes everyone does on the internet, the problems caused by attackers while accessing the internet and how the Trojan Virus is injected through the pictures. He also suggested ways on how to be free from cyber attacks. He also spoke about some of the tools of artificial intelligence which are being misused by the attackers to cheat people. The students found the talk very inspiring and interesting. On the whole, the workshop was well received and the students gained great insights.

Sahyadrians Recruited by SLK Software Ms. Poorna, Ms. Monisha Tarkar, Mr. Aditya K Nayak, Mr. Jehad Mohamed, Mr. Shreyas Baliga B. & Mr. Shreyas S. Kamath from the Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, and Ms. Charmi Meswani & Ms. Rachitha B., from the Dept. of Information Science & Engineering were recruited by SLK Software for the position of Product Engineer with a package of Rs. 5.5 Lakhs per annum, in the Campus Recruitment Drive held on 6th & 7th Oct’19.

Caliper ships its first export order to Europe

Caliper ships its first export order to Europe Caliper Engineering & Lab Pvt Ltd, an in-house start-up Company in Sahaydri, shipped its first export order to Europe.

In response to the order placed by Maverick Valves for their requirements of valve components, the order was shipped to them by Caliper. The valve components are produced by Caliper, maintaining strict quality standards.

Maverick Valves is a dynamic global trading company and supplier in the Valve industry based in the Netherlands. Within a short period of four weeks, the first export order was shipped. Impressed with the swift action and good performance, Maverick Valves has placed further orders for various valve components. The same are now under production at Caliper.

Maker Camp DIY Eco-friendly Diwali Lamps

Maker Camp DIY Eco-friendly Diwali Lamps kMaker Camp DIY Eco-friendly Diwali Lamps Maker Camp – an Awareness Programme, was conducted on 20th Oct’19 with the intent to reduce the use of plastic lamps during Diwali. Eco-friendly Diwali lamps were made during this camp, using recycled coconut shells and bamboo. Students along with their families participated in this camp and made their own lamps as takeaways for their homes.

The Maker-Camp was organized by DreamWorks Makerspace Sahyadri in collaboration with DTlabz R&D Pvt. Ltd. It is an initiative of the Institution's Innovation Council (Ministry of Human Resource Development).

A talk on Best Opportunity to Learn Data Science (BOLD) by Dr. Venkatesh SunkadA talk on Best Opportunity to Learn Data Science (BOLD) by Dr. Venkatesh Sunkad A talk on Data Science was organized by the Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) under the banner of Sahyadri- Institution Innovation Council (IIC) for the students of third and fifth semester. Dr. Venkatesh Sunkad, Mentor, International School of Engineering (INSOFE), educated the students about ‘Best Opportunity to Learn Data Science’ (BOLD) Programme.

Dr. Sunkad explained the importance of various levels of the BOLD Programme and its exposure. His talk inspired the students to analyze the real-world Data Science problems and make them industry competent. He also disseminated how Data Science will rule the world in the coming days.

INSOFE is Asia’s largest Data Science School. It conducts Boot Camps for Entrepreneurship, R&D Exposure, and Product Exposure. The programme was organized in association with Xcelerator, a collaborative learning community - connecting students, academia, and industry by bridging the gap between academic output and industry expectations. Mr. Dipraj Mukherjee, Manager and Mr. Santosh Kumar, Academic Advisor, from Xcelerator also interacted with the students.

The Association of Electronics & Communication Engineering Students (AEnCES) of the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, for the Academic Year 2019-20, was inaugurated on 22nd Oct’19. The theme of the event was REDCARPET.
Dr. R. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal, was the chief guest of the event. He addressed the gathering and briefed about the upcoming visit of the NBA team to the campus. He also spoke about how NBA accreditation could benefit the student fraternity. Dr. Ashwath Rao, Head, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering gave insights into the various initiatives of the department such as virtual labs, mentoring and peer to peer learning. The key to achieve goals, is the active involvement of students in these initiatives, he stressed.
Mr. Gurusiddayya Hiremath, Co-ordinator indicated the importance of such events in the future life, when students start working. He also expressed his gratitude to students, teaching and non-teaching staff, for their active involvement in making this event a success. Ms. Deepthi Rai, Secretary – AEnCES, presented planned events for the Academic Year 2019-20. Mr. Hancy Rohan Crasta, final year student and Mr. Shashank A.G. third year student, presented achievements of students in academics, cultural, sports fields and also in various initiatives of the department.
Various cultural events were organized by the students.

The chief guests for the programme were alumni Mr. Chethak Kulal & Mr. Lenson Roy Saldahna.

Mr. Chethak Kulal is an Associate Director in the Kannada Film Industry. He is the co-founder of Axemen's Films Ad Company in Mangaluru. He started his career as an Assistant Director of Blockbuster movie “Ondu Motteya Kathe”. Later, he also worked in another blockbuster movie “Sarakari Hiriya Praathamika Shaale Kasaragodu” which won National Award. He has worked in six movies so far.

Mr. Lenson Roy Saldanha is one of the Directors of Axndx Technologies Pvt. Ltd., a Private incorporated company in Mangaluru. Axndx is involved in software publishing, consultancy and supply.

In his address, Mr. Saldanha encouraged the gathering to aim high and think of the bigger picture. So, put in your best effort and work hard to attain it, he urged. He also shared his experiences of those days of struggle, in his career as an entrepreneur.

Dr. Shamanth Rai, Head, Dept. of Information Science & Engineering, welcomed the Second Year students into the Department and also wished them a Happy Learning.

Ms. Jayapadmini Kanchan, Faculty Co-ordinator, STAISE; Ms. Sapna Goad, Vice-President and Mr. Shamanth Raj, Secretary also graced the occasion.

In the noon, the students exhibited their talents by performing at various cultural events that were organized.

Mr. Johnson Tellis and Mr. Akshay P.N. conducted a session on Design Thinking on 23rd Oct’19 for the 3rd Year students of Electronics & Communication Engineering and 2nd Year students of Mechanical Engineering.
Design Thinking refers to the cognitive, strategic and practical processes by which design concepts are developed by designers and/or design teams. It also provides a solution-based approach to solving problems.
In this session, students were asked to choose different sectors in which they would work for the next 3 years. They were also called upon to be aware of the various problems affecting Dakshina Kannada District and were advised to come up with solutions that could impact the region. This helps the society to lead a better life.

Student of Computer Science & Engineering gets Elite Certified by NPTEL

Mr. Vrashank Rao M., a student of Computer Science & Engineering has been certified Elite + Silver by NPTEL for successfully completing the course on Introduction to Programming in C, an 8-week course during Jul-Sep 2019.

Challengers secure 3rd position in Aero Modelling Event

Challengers secure 3rd position in Aero Modelling Event Team Challengers, comprising of Mr. Shamanth Gowda, of 4th Year Electronics & Communication Engineering and Ms. Ananya Shetty, of 4th Year Computer Science & Engineering, participated in National Level Aero Modelling competition held at National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), and secured 3rd position. The team members also interacted with many teams from various other colleges from all around India, who also participated in the prestigious event.

Caliper Engineering & Lab Pvt Ltd gets approval from Brahmos Aerospace to be a vendor  Brahmos Aerospace, Trivandrum, manufacturers of supersonic cruise missiles for our Defence Forces, visited Caliper Engineering & Lab Pvt Ltd, In-house Industry at Sahyadri, on 23rd Oct’19. After extensive quality audit, Brahmos approved Caliper to be included as their vendor. This opens up new horizon for Caliper and also provides Hi-Tech learning opportunities for students.

Interaction session - SilverPeak Global, (SPG) Japan

Interaction session - SilverPeak Global, (SPG) Japan SilverPeak Global, (SPG) visited Sahyadri on 21st Oct'19 and interacted with selected students and their parents about careers in Japan for Indian engineers. The session provided a clear understanding regarding the programme, the Japanese culture, internship and job opportunities that would be offered to the students. The interaction concluded with a Q&A session wherein all the parents clarified their doubts and concerns.

Campus Recruitment Drive- Juspay

Campus Recruitment Drive- Juspay As a part of the recruitment drive, Juspay conducted an Online Assessment on 21st Oct’19, for all branches of engineering students from 2019-2020 outgoing batch. Students having a keen interest in coding participated in the assessment. A total of 98 students took up the test and the results are yet to be declared.

Alumnus of Challengers made it into IndiGo Airlines

Alumnus of Challengers made it into IndiGo Airlines Mr Kausthubh P., an Alumnus of Challengers, Department of Mechanical Engineering, has cleared IndiGo Selection Process. IndiGo has a rigorous selection procedure consisting of 4 rounds. It assesses the eligibility of a candidate to become the captain on their fleet.
Mr. Kausthubh will be joining the course (Insight Aviation) in the 2nd week of Nov’2019. He will have his ground training in Gurgaon after clearing the DGCA papers. Thereafter, he will be sent to South Africa for flight training and after the conversion of license he will be sent to UAE for type rating of Airbus A320.
After the completion of this course, he will be joining as a First Officer for the Airlines.

With regard to Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt, Ideation sessions were conducted at 2 institutions on 21st Oct’19.
At Shree Vyasa Maharshi Vidyapeeta the session was conducted by Mr. Gautham Nayak and Mr. Sanketh U. Kottaryand. Similarly, at St. Philomina High School, Puttur the session was conducted by Mr. Gagandeep Bedrela and Ms. Rajmuni.

First Year Engineering students achieve in Technical Fests at Premier Institutes

In a series of Technical Fests at various Premier Institutions that the first year engineering students participated during the last one week, our students achieved places and made name by competing with students of different engineering colleges. Here is the summary of their achievement:

 First Year Engineering students achieve in Technical Fests at Premier Institutes A total of 25 first year engineering students of ‘Clan Samanvaya’, participated in Tathva’19, an annual Techno-Management Festival organized by National Institute of Technology (NIT) – Calicut at Kozhikode, Kerala mentored by Mr. Hassan Rashid & Mr. M.H. Shahas, students of Second Year Mechanical Engineering. The team was qualified for second round in Death Race event.

 First Year Engineering students achieve in Technical Fests at Premier Institutes Similarly, 18 students of ‘Clan Rachit’, participated in Amalthea’19, an annual Tech Summit organized by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar, Gujarat mentored by Mr. K. Samarth N. Kamath, a student of Second Year Computer Science & Engineering. They have won 4th place in Icon and 8th place in Roboquest.

 First Year Engineering students achieve in Technical Fests at Premier Institutes Another 21 students of ‘Clan Udgam’ participated in Atmos, an annual Techno-Management Fest, organized by Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) Pilani, Hyderabad mentored by Mr. Kiran Kumar & Mr. Vinay Kumar from Second Year Electronics & Communication Engineering. The Team was qualified for second round in I-navigate.

 First Year Engineering students achieve in Technical Fests at Premier Institutes Further, from Clan Udbhav, 28 students participated in Concetto’19, the Annual Techno-Management Festival of Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), IIT (ISM), Dhanbad mentored by Mr. Vaibhav Shetty, a student of Second Year Computer Science & Engineering. The Team was qualified for second round in Death Race event.

 First Year Engineering students achieve in Technical Fests at Premier Institutes Finally, a total of 18 students from Clan Udbhav, participated in Engineer’19, Technical Fest organized by National Institute of Technology-Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal mentored by Mr. Renil from Second Year Computer Science & Engineering. The Team secured 3rd & 4th places in Light Follower, and 4th place in Robo Hockey.

Session for IoT Future Skill Vertical

Session for IoT Future Skill Vertical alk Presentation of IoT (Internet of Things) Future Skill Initiative was organized on 19th Oct’19 at the Corporate Office of RDL Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Mr. Pradeep Kumar, Design Engineer - RDL Technologies Pvt. Ltd., was the resource person. He handled the session on Back Scattering Technology, commonly known as Radio-frequency Identification (RFID).

Radio-frequency Identification (RFID) finds prominent place in IoT Solutions due to the simplicity and wide application. The working was briefly explained along with use case converting retail, transportation, mining industries. The team was encouraged to come up with use cases for in-college applications like Food Court, Attendance and Library.

The presentation concluded with a couple of challenges using RFID like reliability, speed and performance. More than 30 people benefited from this programme as a part of Sahyadri - IoT Future Skill Vertical.
