Sinchana-2019 celebrated to mark Kannada Rajyotsava Day

Sinchana-2019 As Karnataka state celebrates 63 years of glory, Sahyadri too had a shining fervour added to it, by inaugurating Sinchana-2019 on 1st Nov’19. The Chief Guest of the event was Mr. Vittal Nayak, Asst. Teacher, Government Higher Primary School, Kalladka. Dr. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal, Mr. Devdas Hegde, Trustee - Bhandary Foundation and Prof. S.S. Balakrishna, Vice Principal also graced the function.

Mr. Vittal Nayak in his inaugural address highlighted the importance of Kannada literature. He appreciated Sahyadri for celebrating Karnataka Rajyotsava to break the myth of English being superior to Kannada.

Speaking about Comparison and Competition Mr. Nayak said that this is a dangerous trend and urged the audience to come out of it. He stressed on the importance of Relationships. Value people, and not material things, he urged. Respect the soldiers. They safeguard our borders so that we may lead a secure life.

Mr. Nayak concluded by sharing the importance of the 3S’ viz. Soul, Service and Smile. Be true to your soul and serve with a smile. Dr. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal and Mr. Devdas Hege, Trustee, spoke on the occasion and wished all participants Good Luck. The inaugural programme was followed by cultural extravaganza.

Students of Computer Science & Engineering won the first place; Mechanical Engineering students won the second place, and the third place went to the students of Electronics & Communications Engineering. The students of the Mechanical, Computer Science and Information Science engineering have bagged the overall championship.

Sahyadrians Recruited by Mphasis

Sahyadrians Recruited by Mphasis A total of 26 Sahyadrians were recruited by Mphasis, in the campus recruitment drive held on 11th Oct’19.

Eight students from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, twelve from the Department of Information Science & Engineering and, from the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, six students were hired for the position of Trainee Associate Software Engineer.

Mechanical Engineering students go on an Industrial Visit Mechanical Engineering students go on an Industrial Visit Prof. Prakashkumar Kavalur, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, accompanied his mentees to two industries. The main reason behind an Industrial Visit is to let students know things practically through interaction, working methods and employment practices. They visited two industries viz: Patil Electric Works (P) Ltd, Hubballi, Advance Dye Cast Company, Hubballi. The students were greatly benefited from this Industry Visit. They gained hands-on experience of how industry operations are executed.

Emurgo organizes sessions on “Basics of BlockChain”

Basics of BlockChain A 2-day session on “Basics of BlockChain” was organized under the banner of the Institute Innovation Council (IIC).

The resource persons from “Team Emurgo” consisting of Mr. Bharath Mallapur, Vice President-Technology, Emurgo India; Mr. Vijay Balaji, Vice President, Emurgo India, and Mr. Rahul Oberoi, Manager- Strategic Alliances, Emurgo India; facilitated the two-day sessions.

The main purpose of the workshop was to evangelize the college students on Blockchain Technology and give them a brief of what EMURGO Academy has to offer to students with this perspective. Students benefitted a lot from this session.

Inauguration of Sahyadri Youth Red Cross Unit and SERV team training at Sahyadri Campus Inauguration of Sahyadri Youth Red Cross Unit and SERV team training at Sahyadri Campus The Sahyadri Youth Red Cross Unit was inaugurated by Mr. C.A. Shanthram Shetty, Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, DK Branch, on 2nd Nov’19. The training of the first Social Emergency Response Volunteer Team was kick-started the same day. The training will continue for two days. Mr C.A. Shanthram Shetty, in his inaugural address spoke about the importance of students’ active participation in rendering selfless service to humanity. He gave a brief about the history and working of the Red Cross Society and appreciated Sahyadri for starting the Youth Red Cross Unit. The Chief Guest of the inaugural function was Mr. Prabhakar Sharma, S.A., KAS, Hon. Secretary, IRCS, DK. He related his experience in Red Cross and how it impacted and changed his life. He urged the students to participate in as many social activities as possible involving selfless service. He had nothing but admiration for Sahyadri for their initiative to set up a Youth Red Cross Unit which is something very rare when it comes to professional technical colleges. Dr. R. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal, who also presided over this event, delivered the presidential address and wished the team a successful two-day training programme.

Mr Sacheth Suvarna, SERV Coordinator, IRCS DK; Mr. Ashwin Kumar and Mrs. Gloria Rodrigues are the resource persons for the training programme.

Mrs. Shreelatha U.A., Academic Administrative Officer; Mrs. Rashmitha Girish Nishal, Student Welfare Officer and Mr. Ankith S. Kumar, Student Counselor, were present. Around 30 students from all branches of engineering and MBA, will be participating in the two-day training. They will be trained by experts in basic first aid.

As a part of this assignment, during the 1st phase, a Workshop on ‘Resume Building’ was facilitated by the 2nd MBA-HR students for their juniors. The objective was to impart the Do’s and Don’ts in a Resume and to develop a standard resume for future prospects.

The students took an oath to contribute to the unity of the nation and safeguard its internal security, thereby building a nation that envisioned by the great leader.

Sahyadri Women’s Team wins at VTU Power Lifting Competition

Sahyadri Women’s Power Lifting Sahyadri Women’s Power Lifting Team emerges as winners in the VTU Inter-collegiate Single Zone Power Lifting Competition organized by NMAMIT, Nitte on 30th & 31st Oct’19.
Around 18 colleges participated in this competition. Below is a list of Medal winners:

Vaishnavi D.K. First place 63 kg category
Namrasha N. Ganiga First place 84 kg category

All 3 power lifting champions have been selected for the All India Inter-university Power Lifting Competition.

Engineering students attend Workshop at NITK, Suratkal A total of 23 students participated in GO programming Workshop at NITK, Suratkal organized by "ACM-NITK". The resource person was Jyotsna Gupta, A software developer at Coffeebeans Consulting LPP, Bengaluru. The session consisted of learning syntax of GO.

GO or GoLang, is an open source programming language designed for building simple, fast and reliable software said Ms. Gupta. It is far better than other programming languages. The Workshop was concluded by teaching students how to build secure server using GO and career fields related to it.

Campus Recruitment Drive - Jaro Education

Campus Recruitment Drive - Jaro Education Jaro Education conducted a pool campus recruitment drive for the 2020 batch, for BE all Branches and MBA students. Ms. Sakshi Pant, Manager – Campus Relations was at the campus to facilitate the process. Over 1,000 students from various colleges in D.K. and Udupi districts participated in the drive and the results are awaited.

Civil Engineering students bagged Overall Championship at PRAVARTHANA – 2K19 Final and pre-final year students of Civil Engineering took part in various competitions at ‘Pravarthana – 2K19’, an intercollegiate technical fest organized by PES Institute of Technology & Management, Shivamogga on 24th & 25th October 2019.

Mr. Ajay K. of 7th Semester & Mr. Vignesh Shetty of 5th Semester topped the Technical Quiz and Mr. Kaushal B. & Mr. Harshith D. Poojary of 7th Semester bagged the first place in ‘Best Architecture’ event, thereby grabbing the overall championship.

Er. Ameer Suhail, Alumnus - Department of Civil Engineering interacts with students Er. Ameer Suhail, Site Engineer, Sriram Greenfields, Garden City, Bengaluru visited the campus and interacted with the engineering students. In his address he spoke about ‘Career for a Civil Engineer’ which includes several lucrative job avenues in both public and private sectors. Some popular options including consulting firms, railways, defence force, and municipal corporations were also discussed.

He shared his experience and advised the students to groom themselves to meet the needs of the industries. He called upon the students to harness soft skills which are pertinent to deal with work. He recalled his days as a student at Sahyadri and gave inputs on how involving in the college activity has helped him in his professional career.

Er. Suhail encouraged students to take up internships to get exposed to real time construction works which in turn helps them in better placement.

Future Skill Group-Cyber Security conducted its 5th Event

Future Skill Group-Cyber Security conducted its 5th Event Cyber Security Future Skill Club, under the banner of Centre of Excellence Cyber Security conducted its 5th event on 25th Oct’19. Prof. Naithik S.T., Dept. of Information Science & Engineering and Manager – CoE, Cyber Security facilitated the event.

In his presentation he briefed about various digital payments. He also gave insights into the digital payment technologies and security measures to be taken on the digital payments.
