Chairman Addresses First Year Students

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, interacted with first year students. He introduced himself and shared some of his life experiences. He said that there are two options in life; Accept or Change. He motivated the students to fix the goal in their life and stay focused towards it. He also stressed upon thinking analytically and to evaluate oneself and accept the reality. He spoke about the differences between teacher and lecturers. He also stressed upon the importance of value added courses, industry interactions and projects which will enable the students to compete with the new technology. He encouraged them to take up projects under Sahyadri project funding scheme. He asked the students to be the visionaries who create jobs for others. He also explained how the companies will set recruitment criteria and the preparations that need to be made towards placements. He gave the thumb rule to lead a disciplined life and wished all the students a bright future ahead.

Teachers’ Week

“Manthana” (Our Walk towards Change) an association of likeminded Sahyadrians on the occasion of Teachers’ Day conducted various competitions such as Quiz, Mehendi, Singing in a group and solo, Drawing, Debate, Creative Writing, Cooking without Fire and Rangoli. It was an amalgamation of teaching and non - teaching staff from Sahyadri Pre University, Nursing and Engineering College. Participation of the Dean Academic in the Quiz Competition and participation of the staff with their student partners in mehendi competition; staff applying Mehendi for the students were the highlights of the programme. The students did a tremendous job of co-ordinating and conducting all the various competitions throughout the week. The appreciation, the love and the respect for their teachers came through during this week-long teacher’s day celebrations. Ms. Neha Jabber, Semester VII, did an on-the-spot pencil sketch of Dr. Radhakrishnan while the groups were singing.

Ms. Samra and Ms. Saura, alumni, judged the mehendi competition. Mrs. Dakshaini, parent of a student of the College; a trained classical singer judged the singing competition. Mr. Naveen Pillar, Coordinator, Department of Art & Culture and Mr. Varun Bangera, Semester II, judged the drawing competition. Mr. Naveen S.A., Principal, Sahyadri Pre University College judged the debate competition. Mr. Krishna Prasad, Lecturer in English, Sahyadri Pre University College and Ms. Neha, Semester I judged the creative writing competition. Dr. Beena Antony, Professor of Microbiology and Dr. Princy Palatty, Professor of Pharmacology, Fr. Muller Medical College, Mangalore, were the judges for the Cooking without Fire and Rangoli competitions. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation, Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Dr. Antony A. J., Vice-Principal and Prof. M. N. Nayak, Administrator, graced the occasion. Many teaching and non– teaching faculty and students cheered the participants. Teachers’ Day Celebrated in the Campus

Teaching, Non Teaching staff and Students of Sahyadri Educational Institutions celebrated Teachers’ Day in the Campus. Mrs. Lucy Coelho, Retired Teacher, St. Thomas School, Chelur, Bantwal, who is Chairman’s teacher, was the Chief Guest of the function. Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Lucy Coelho wished all the teachers a very happy teachers’ day and recalled some of her experience as a teacher and said that Mr. Manjunath Bhandary was a favorite student of hers and blessed him and wished him and the institute a bright future.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation shared his happiness of the presence of his own teacher and said that Lucy teacher turned impossible into possible. “It is Lucy teacher who is responsible for whatever I am today”, he added. Mr. Bhandary quoted one more example of his own teacher Dr. D. L. Prabhakara, Director, Sahyadri Educational Institutions said that he has faith in the strength of a teacher and he wants all the teachers to be like them and be mentors and role models to the students.

Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri Engineering College gave a call to the teachers to be aware of oneself and always to listen to one’s conscience. Prof. Irene Vegas, Principal, Sahyadri Nursing College, Prof. Naveen S. A., Principal, Sahyadri Pre University College, Dr. A. P. Achar, Director, Business Administration, graced the occasion and wished all the teachers and shared their thoughts over the teachers’ day celebration. Winners of the competitions of the Teachers’ Week organized by ‘Manthana’ were felicitated by the chief guest. It was followed by Cultural Programme and Fun Games.

Mr. Sannath and Mr. Sherlin Pinto, Semester I, recited the poems written by them. Mr. Goutham Shetty, Student President welcomed the gathering. Ms. Sheethal, compérèd the programme. Mr. Karthik Ramakrishnan, semester V, Mechanical Engineering, and Mr. Royston D’souza conducted Cultural Programmes and Fun Games for the teachers. Students Attend Seminar on Art & Culture

Shree Rama First Grade College, Kalladka, Bantwal, organised `Janadesha 2014’; a Mangalore University level seminar on Art & Culture. Kiran Kedilaya, Akshatha M. S., Karthik A., Deepthi and Mohd. Thalath, first year students attended the seminar.



                  

Vishwa Tuluvere Parba at Sahyadri

Vishwa Tuluvere Parba, an amalgamation of cultural and literary programmes, along with exhibition, competitions and entertainment akin to Tulunadu culture will be organized on December 12, 13 and 14, 2014 at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management premises. Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr. Virendra Hegde, inaugurating the Programme of the office of the Vishwa Tuluvere Parba, announced the premises being shifted from Pilikula to Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. It’s a great privilege to all Sahyadrians.

Mahindra Auto Quiz Competition at Sahyadri

Mr.Shoaib Sadiq, Team AQ & Farmpassion - HR, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. in association with Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management conducted Mahindra Auto Quiz competition at Sahyadri. 600 students from 8 Engineering colleges participated in the competition.

Sahyadri Runners-Up in the VTU Inter- Collegiate Mangalore Zone Table Tennis Tournament

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management is the winner of the runners-up trophy and the girls team is placed fourth in the VTU Inter-Collegiate Mangalore Zone Table Tennis Tournament held at Shridevi Institute of Technology, Mangalore. The players are Sameeh Mohammed, Shreyas Hebbar, Krishna Sindhus, Glister D’Silva, Aster Fernandes, and Adithya S. Nayak in the boys team and Ashwini N., Chaithra Kamath G., and Nikitha Shet in the girls team.

Mrs. Shreelatha Re-appointed Member of JJB

Mrs. Shreelatha U. A., Academic Administrative Officer, has been re-appointed as a Member of Juvenile Justice Board of Dakshina Kannada District by the Govt. of Karnataka & Women & Child Welfare Department, Karnataka, for the period of three years from August, 2014 to July, 2017.

She was recently felicitated along with the chairperson of JJB, Sri. Nagalinganagowda Patil, Chief Judicial Magistrate, DK and another member of JJB, Prof. Ramila Shekar, Dean, School of Social work, Roshni Nilaya, by the District Commissioner, Shri. A. B. Ibrahim in a function.

Theory in Practice for MBA students

Twenty-seven students from second year MBA Marketing and two faculty members, Mr. Girish and Mr. Karthik, visited Pilikula Botanical Park to work on a project as part of their Business to Business Marketing and Sales and Retail Management subjects. The students were assigned a project to understand the issues of Pilikula Botanical Park and increase footfalls and also ensure more sales conversion happens in terms of Visitors to the Park. The students will have to talk to business organizations and try to source funds to adopt animals at the Park as well as to invest on basic services to be provided at the Park. The students also had interactions with Mr. Vikram, Scientific Officer of the Park.

In another exposure visit for students to practices of industry, 116 students of third semester MBA along with 6 faculty members visited Hindustan Unilever, Mangalore Unit. The students were assigned tasks on operations management, production technology, labor issues and marketing concepts of Hindustan Unilever. The students interacted with Mr. Chidanand, Production Manager of the Mangalore unit.
