Honoring Ceremony of Sir M. Visvesvaraya

On the occasion of Engineers' Day the college organized an Honoring ceremony of Sir. M. Visvesvaraya in the campus. Dr. D. L. Prabhakara, Director, Sahyadri Educational Institutions and Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri Engineering College garlanded the image of Sir M. Visvesvaraya. Prof. Umashankar, Dean Academic, Dr. A. J. Antony, Vice Principal, Prof. M. N. Nayak, Administrator, Dr. A.P. Achar, Director, MBA, HoD’s, Faculty members, Students Council Members showered flowers on the statue of Sir. M. V and honoured Bharat Rathna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya on his 154th Birthday.

Later in the day formal function was held in the campus. Dr. U.M. Bhushi, Principal enlightened the large numbers of students with his thought provoking talk. He gave a call to the upcoming engineers to have a creative and questioning mind to challenge things and to move in a right direction.

Students’ Council members held a quiz session for the students gathered. Few students shared their views and read poems written by them. Principal gave away prizes for the winners of Drawing Competition organized by Manthana. Students sang songs and entertained the audience.

First Prize in Paper Presentation Contest at St. Joseph Engineering College

The novel concept “VLSI Implementation of High Speed-Low Power-Area Efficient Multiplier Using Modified Vedic Mathematical Techniques” implemented by Vardhana. M., III year E&C, and Ashwathy Harikumar, IV Year E&C under the guidance of Prof. Abdul Kareem, Department of Projects and Funding secured the first prize in the paper presentation contest held as a part of Engineer’s Day at St. Joseph Engineering College, Mangalore.

Sahyadrians Bag all the Three Prizes in Project Exhibition

Freshers Day Celebrated

The first B.E. students celebrated Freshers Day in the Campus. Mr. E. S. Chakravarthy, Centre Head, TCS, Bangalore was the Chief Guest for the function. He was accompanied by Mr. Ramanujam, Mr. Prithvesh and Mr. Chandru Koduru, delegates from TCS. Dr. D. L. Prabhakara, Director, Sahyadri Educational Institutions was the Guest of Honour.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, in his presidential speech to the freshers, apprised the guests and the gathering about the growth of the College in various arenas such as academics, sports, projects and the impetus being given to research and innovation. He congratulated the winners of the Microsoft Yappon contest and encouraged and conveyed his best wishes to them.

Mr. E. S. Chakravarthy, the Chief Guest in his thought provoking speech to the gathered students said, “technology is getting integrated in everything that we do and there is no dearth of opportunities for engineering students today.” He informed students that the future of the industry lies in social media programming, cloud computing, analytics, mobility and artificial intelligence. He advised the young entrants to engineering courses to go after three things which he called the 3Cs, which are core competencies; strong academic fundamentals of engineering; read voraciously for information, study for understanding, apply these fundamentals in various projects and keep practicing to get better competencies, secondly, he said what engineering students have to imbibe in their four years of study are communication skills and articulation capabilities and thirdly a culture of respect, and a culture of team work; setting targets and going after it. He also stressed that technology should be used along with innovation. Mr. Chakravarthy further requested the students to take their final year projects seriously to gain a competitive edge and to always keep abreast of what is happening in the domain that one has opted for. He cautioned the students to never lose character and the value systems and to enjoy every second of engineering education and to never lose purpose.

Thanking the institution for giving him this wonderful opportunity, Mr. Chakravarthy said that it was always a pleasure to share his views with engineering institutions and that he and his team would do everything possible for the overall growth of Sahyadri.

Danusha and Varun, first year B. E. students shared their experience so far at Sahyadri on behalf of all the other first year students. Dr. Antony A. J., Vice-Principal, HoDs, faculty and staff were present on the occasion. Students showcased their talents in cultural extravaganza after the formal function.


Sahyadri Signs MoU with EHSRDC

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and M/s Environmental Health and Safety Research & Development Centre (EHSRDC), Bangalore. The MoU will facilitate environmental clearance services through EIA consultancy, environmental laboratory services, technical and project consultancy for STP/ETP projects on turnkey basis.

Mr. Shivananda Damble, Chairman and Managing Director and Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, signed the MoU in the presence of Dr. S. Manjappa, Director, Research and Consultancy, Prof. Umashanker B. S., Dean Academic, Prof. Dayanand Shetty, Director - STEP, Prof. Emeritus B. N. Karkera, Prof. Umesh, HoD, Department of Civil Engineering, and Prof. Balakrishna, HoD, Department of Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Damble said that the MoU will help students and staff to get wider exposure to technology, project work and internship. The MoU was facilitated through Dr. S. Manjappa, Director, Research and Consultancy.

Google Student Ambassador – Working Team Recruitment

A presentation of the Google Student Ambassador (GSA) - India Program was given to over 270 students in the Campus. Motivated by the presentation, around 250 students from the first to the third year B.E. registered to be in the team. Following this, a Group Discussion was held as Round 1. Students felt that the GD was interesting as they learnt how to exchange view and ideas systematically from which 102 students were selected. Shortlisted students of Round 1 were required to make and upload videos of themselves on YouTube in the Round 2-Video Presentation. The students felt the need to innovate and impress, forced to move out of their comfort zone. 55 students were shortlisted from this round. In the final round which was a personal interview session, 29 students were selected, out of which 18 will function as working members and 11 will be participants in the GSA events. The participants confessed that they researched a lot before attending the interview, but the questions asked were completely different and scenario-based.

Domain Specific Pre-placement Training for Semester VII Students

A three-day pre-placement training in Domain specific Programming in Java & Advanced Java/Embedded Programming/AutoCAD Designing and CAD Mechanical Designing was organised in the Campus for students of Semester VII. A team headed by Prof. Sharada H. S., Training & Placement Officer, Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Bangalore, conducted the hands on training for the students.

Capital Market Awareness Programme for MBA Semester I Students

The Department of Business Administration organised a Capital Market Awareness Programme for the first semester students. Mr. Sumeet Nayak, VP, Lotus Knowlwealth spoke about various aspects of capital market, derivatives market and foreign exchange market. He also gave ideas on online trading and settlement.

Model Question Papers for first semester B.E./B.Tech. have been posted on the VTU website http://vtu.ac.in/model-question-paper. All are requested to make use of the same.

VTU State Level Kannada Essay Competition held in the Campus

As per the VTU notification, Kannada Essay competition was organized in the campus for the students of Sahyadri Engineering College on the occasion of Engineers’ day celebration. Topic for the essay was 'Sir. M. Visvesvarayanavaru yava reethiyalli yuva Engineergalige Spoorthidayaka?' Twenty Eight students participated in the competition and the best ten essays will be selected and sent to VTU, Belgaum. VTU will decide the winners of the state level Kannada Essay Competition simultaneously held in all Engineering Colleges affiliated to VTU and Winners will get cash prizes of Rs. 20,000/-, Rs. 15,000/- and Rs. 10,000/- for First, Second and Third prize, respectively.

Turning Ideas into Reality by ‘Manthana’

Manthana, an association of likeminded Sahyadrians organized few programmes on the occasion of Engineers’ Day designed to inspire and encourage young engineers and upcoming engineers.

• Ingenius: Giving you the power to be your Best
On the occasion of Engineers’ Day ‘Manthana’ in association with team Dreamers organized a programme Ingenius: Giving You the Power to be Your Best, a session by the team dreamers to the upcoming Engineers in Expert P.U. College, Valachil. A team led by Mr. Johnson Tellis and accompanied by Ms. Aurin Madtha, Coordinator, Manthana . The team comprised of Mr. Goutham Naik, Mr. John, Mr. Sachin , Mr. Nishan and Ms. Anisha.

Mr. Johnson Tellis interacted with the students and spoke about Practical Engineering. He spoke about the journey and achievements of Team Dreamers and motivated the young engineering aspirants to be innovative. ‘Do not let your curiosity diminish; ask questions’ he said. The team showed the video presentation and also the live demonstration of few of their projects. Mr. Venkat Rajesh with few other faculty members and around one hundred and fifty students of Expert P.U. College attended and enjoyed the session.

• ‘Manthana Chithara’
Manthana, an association of likeminded Sahyadrians organized ‘Manthana Chithara’ a drawing competition in the campus. Around 15 students participated in the competition where they were asked to draw a portrait of Sir. M. Visvesvaraya. Ms. Rashmi Kiran S, Semester I, Department of Computer Science and Engineering Mr. Sherlin Niel Pinto, Semester I, Department of Computer Science and Engineering bagged the first prize. The second prize was bagged by Ms. Sushmitha, Semester V, Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Mr. Naveen Pillar, Coordinator, Department of Art and Culture and Mr. Vasanth Kedige, Bhandary Foundation were the judges.

Sahyadrians Win in JCI State Level Competition

Junior Chamber International presented JCI week in Karkala by organizing a state level Variety competition at Shree B. Manjunaath Pai Hall. Pooja Rai & Karthik Ramakrishnan secured the Second place in Masters of Ceremony competition and Jnanesh & team secured the First place in Mime competition. Forty-five students of the Department of Master of Business Administration and Sahyadri P. U. College took part in the events.

Faculty Member Attends Training Programme

Mr. Prabhakara B. K., Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering attended a one-day training for organizers of the Spoken Tutorial Program of IIT- Bombay at VTU regional office, Mysore. The training session was conducted by Prof. Shyla and organized by VTU for the faculties of Mysore zone. The Spoken Tutorial Project is about teaching and learning a particular FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) like Linux, Scilab, LaTeX, PHP & MySQL, Java, C/C++, LibreOffice etc. via an easy Video tool - Spoken Tutorials.

Dr. A. P. Achar Invited as Resource person

Dr. A. P. Achar, Director, Department of Business Administration was invited as the resource person by National Institute of Agricultural Extensional Management ( MANAGE) Hyderabad, to take a session on “ TQM in farm business management" for the participants of US –India- Africa Triangular International training programme. Dr. Achar is one among the 20 experts empanelled by the Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India to take sessions for US- India- Africa triangular International training programme

Semester I MBA Students on an Industrial Visit

The first semester students of the Department of Business Administration visited RMC Ready Mix India Prism Cements Ltd, Alex group of fishnet & Kivi Sansho Packaging Pvt. Ltd. located in Manipal Industrial Area. 110 students accompanied by 4 faculties namely, Dr. Vishal Samartha, Mr. Girish, Ms. Shilpa Shetty & Mr. Ullas Sharma participated in the industry visit. The visit to the shop floor of the enterprises exposed the students to the various aspects of production. The students involved themselves in thorough discussion with the unit officials on matters concerning investment, returns, human resources and marketing. The visit was well appreciated by the students.

Faculty Member Invited to Inaugurate NSS Unit of SDM Law College

Mr. Ramesh K. G., Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration, inaugurated the NSS Unit of SDM Law College for the Year 2014-15. Dr. P. D. Sebastian, Prinicpal, SDM Law College & Prof. Naresh Malligemadu, NSS Officer, SDM Law College were present on the occasion. Mr. Ramesh K. G., is an alumnus of SDM Law College and he was the NSS Secretary of the unit. During his tenure at SDM Law College he received the State Level Best NSS Volunteer award and went on to win Indira Priyadarshini National Level Best NSS Volunteer award from Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India.
