Ozone Protection Day Celebrated in the campus

As a part of 'Ozone Protection Day' the Department of Civil Engineering has organized a programme in collaboration with Karnataka State Pollution Control Board in the campus.

Mr. Vijay Kumar, Member Secretary, KSPCB and Mr. Vijay G Joshi, Director ONGC, Mangalore were the chief guests of the programme. Mr. Vijay Kumar briefed about the importance of ozone and enlightened the audience on protecting ozone layer.

Dr. G. Srinikethan, Professor Department of Chemical Engineering, NITK Surathkal was the theme speaker of the programme. He spoke about the ozone layer and its sustainability on this earth. Mr. Lakshmikath accompanied guests and shared his views on the role of individual in protecting Ozone. Mr.Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation delivered the presidential address and felicitated the guests. Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal welcomed the gathering.

The winners of Essay Writing, Pencil Sketch and Creative Collage Competition were felicitated by the guests.

Dr. D. L.Prabhakara, Director, Sahyadri Educational Institutions, Dr. A. J. Antony, Vice principal and Research Coordinators were present on the occasion.

‘The Geek Streak’ a two day workshop held in the Campus

The Google Student Community under the leadership of Google student ambassador Karthik Ramakrishnan, Semester V, Mechanical Engineering and the guidance of Ms. Saranyaraj D, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communications & Google Champion has organized a two day workshop ‘The Geek Streak’ in the Campus.

‘The Geek Streak’ is an Android – Cloud, integrated workshop. It was inaugurated by Dr. M.N Birje, HoD of Department of MCA, VTU Belgum, Mr. Praveen Hanchinal, CEO INSPIRE- groups and Mr. Amit Tank, faculty member at SRM Institute, Bangalore.

The two day workshop enabled the students to apply the acquired knowledge to solve the problem statements obtained from local NGOs, and Muncipal Bodies in Mangalore. It was followed by the presentation of the created applications before a jury consisting of these NGO Members and Employees of City Corporation.

The venue was decorated with creative depictions of Android Robot and Google colors and was appreciated by everyone.

Air Show by Dreamers

Team Dreamers in association with Mangalore RC Flyers organized an Air Show Programme, to the Students of the First Year Engineering of the college to make them aware of the latest technology and developments in the field of Avionics. The wonderful Air show was given by Mr. Vishal Rao, Mr. Nithin Raj Kotian, members of Mangalore RC Flyers club and the team DREAMERS. Various kinds of airplanes were exhibited and flown and the students were eager to know the mechanism of the planes. The Navy officials, who visited Sahyadri for recruitment were also present and were impressed by the team and the various models. Mr. Johnson Tellis also flew the Quad copter on a request by the administrator.

Aviation is the practical aspect or an art of aeronautics, being the design, development, production, operation and use of aircraft. Recent developments for small aircraft have been the introduction of advanced avionics (including GPS) that were formerly found only in large airliners, and the introduction of composite materials to make small aircraft lighter and faster.

Chairman addresses Faculty Members and the Student Council Members

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation addressed the student council members and faculty members on ‘Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt’ to be held in the month of November in thirty Pre-University Colleges. It will be launched on 7th of October. Primary focus of the event is to bring out and enhance creativity in Pre University Students. The College will first identify thirty Pre University Colleges with the help of faculty members and students of Sahyadri. As a second step the college will contribute fifty thousand rupees for every selected college and will organize Career Guidance Programme along with the competitions. The talent hunt consists of four competitions like Essay Writing Competition, Project Competition, Quiz Competition and Model or Prototype Competition. He motivated all the faculty members and student council members to take up the initiative immediately. The culmination of the talent hunt will be at the Sahyadri premises on 15th of November 2014. He also invited suggestions and inputs from the gathering.

In his inspirational talk to the staff he called upon them to motivate students to involve themselves in the SPSS (Student Projects Support Scheme) and he said that SPSS is not only for B.E. students but it is compulsory for every M.Tech. student.

The Chairman also briefed about the Vishwa Tuluvere Parba, an amalgamation of Cultural and Literary programmes, along with exhibition, competitions and entertainment akin to Tulunadu culture, which will be held on December 12, 13 and 14, 2014 at the college premises. He motivated all faculty members to be a part of it and to be in the support team. “More than fifty thousand people from all around the world will attend the fest it’s a great privilege to all Sahyadrians”, he added.

Mobile Application developed by Sahyadrians

PrithviRaj Shetty, Aman Agarwal, Sharath Hegde, Rohan Shetty, Prateeksha Rao, Leora D’Souza, Ankit Bhagat, Lenson and Prajwal Chandra developed a Mobile Application ‘@Sahyadri’ for Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. It will enable sahyadrians to view latest events of Sahyadri as well as Academic Calendar and the Campus Buzz. This application has an optional feature by which the cell phones are put to silent mode as soon as the users enter Sahyadri Campus. Links will be available soon to download the application on Android smartphones.

Sharada Pooja in Sahyadri Library

On the occasion of auspicious Navaratri festival, Sahyadri college central library performed Sharada Pooja.

Dr. U M Bhushi, Principal of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mrs. Irene Veigas, Principal, Sahyadri College of Nursing, Prof. Umashanker, Dean Academic, Dr. A.J.Antony, Vice Principal, Prof. M.N.Nayak, Administrator, Mr. Ramesh Hegde, Finance officer, HoDs, faculty members and students were present on the occasion.

MBA Students on an Industrial Visit

The Finance and Banking students of Department of Business Administration visited Baikampady Industrial Estate as part of industry visit. The team visited Konkan Speciality Poly Products Pvt. Ltd. It offers various grades of eco-friendly natural fiber reinforced plastic compounds which enable replacement of various commodity polymers and engineering polymers to make products more eco-friendly and lower carbon footprint. The team also visited Friends Veneer And Ply (P) Ltd., Baikampady, Mangalore, a leading manufacturer, supplier and importer of plywood. The managing partners of both the companies briefed about the financial management aspects. The visit exposed the students to the various aspects of production and was highly appreciated by the student community. The students were accompanied by Mr.Lokesh, Mr.Ramesh K.G. and Mr.Abhay Kumar, faculty members of the Department of MBA.

Mr. P. Suresh Addresses students of MBA

Department of Business administration organized a guest lecture for the HR specialization students of the department. Mr. P. Suresh, Senior manager-HR, Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd, Mangalore was the resource person. He addressed the students on the Components of CTC, Various Legislation Governing Wage and Salary Administration. He also spoke on the Procedure of Wage Settlements and Enterprise Resource Planning for HR. Mr. P. Suresh also agreed for two internships for HR specialization students at MCF, Mangalore. The guest lecture was initiated by Dr. Vishal Samartha, Associate Professor, Department of Business Administration.

Faculty Member Attends National Conference

Mrs. Gayathri Shetty, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration attended the Two Day UGC sponsored National Conference on ‘Women Empowerment through Microfinance - Challenges and Prospects’ held at St. Agnes College, Mangalore. The Conference was organized by the Department of Commerce in collaboration with Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Karnataka. Several aspects of Micro Financial activities related to women empowerment were discussed.
