MBAs participate & win in Atharv 2017, IIM Indore, Cultural cum Management & Literary Festival, Indore Twelve MBA Students participated in one of the biggest fest in Central India – Atharv 2017, the Cultural, Management and Literary fest of IIM Indore. Management and literary events have encouraged the budding managers and entrepreneurs to put on their thinking caps. Marketing & HR events have provided a great platform to our students to flex their intellectual muscles.

Third year Electronics & Communication Engineering students Sivanesh M, Mohammad Afridi, Mohammad Shandar, Nowzish M under the guidance of Prof. Praveen Kumar M have published a paper titled “Automatic Delivery Bot using RF Communication” in International Journal of Innovative Research in Science, Engineering and Technology (IJIRSET), Volume 6, Issue 8, August 2017. Fresher’s Day of Engineering 2017-18 batch Dr. M R Ravi, KAS, CEO of Zilla Panchayat, Dakshina Kannada graced the function as the chief guest of Fresher’s Day of Engineering 2017-18 batch. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation in his opening remarks spoke highly about the Chief Guest Dr. M R Ravi and asked the students to take inspiration from his achievements. Mr. Bhandary briefed the Guest and the students of the milestones achieved by the institution over the years. He also expressed his plans for the future of Sahyadri which he is determined to achieve and take the institution to getter heights.

The Chief Guest - Dr. M R Ravi shared his experiences and thoughts of great personalities such as Swami Vivekananda, Emily Durant and Burt Russell regarding education. Dr. Ravi emphasized on the true understanding of the meaning of education & the need for skill based learning. He urged that it is the duty of every educated individual to contribute to the welfare of the society. He asked the students to learn rather than just read. He spoke about self-management and also explained the need of managing failures and re-building confidence. He concluded by stating that one should not chase money and fame rather be a person of values.

The Principal, Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, in his concluding remarks shared anecdotes which emphasized on giving one hundred percent and realizing the full potential. He also said that ignorance is bliss but to know of our ignorance one must have education.

Post the formal ceremony, a vibrant entertainment programme was arranged for the fresher’s by their seniors.

Engineer’s Day Observed at Sahyadri

Engineer’s Day Observed at SahyadriOn the occasion of Engineer’s Day, the College paid homage to Sir. M. Visvesvaraya. The students of TCIS - The Cambridge International School visited Sahyadri and along with them our Principal, the HODs, the faculty, the staff and the Sahyadri students showered flowers on the statue of Sir. M. Visvesvaraya commemorating him on his birthday. A group of 70 primary school children of The Cambridge International School, Adyar as a part of community interaction programme accompanied by six teachers visited the campus. These students visited various departments and facilities in Sahyadri. They also interacted with the Dreamers Team. The students were delighted to see the airplane model design and air show. Sir. M. Visvesvaraya dedicated his life towards the building of the nation and he epitomized all the qualities of an ideal engineer throughout his life. Hence, today we honour this great luminary by celebrating his birthday as ‘Engineer’s Day’.

NBA Workshop on IonCUDOS Software for faculty members Mr. Vinay Havalad, Software Product Engineer, Mr. Abhinay Angadi, Sr. Software Product Engineer and Mr. Mruthunjay Shettar, Soft Product Engineer from Ion Idea facilitated a Workshop on IonCUDOS, Outcome Based Education Software for faculty members.

Ion Idea has over 20 years of heritage in Information Technology Solutions and Services, with its headquarters in the United States. The company’s global offices are spread across India, Europe, Middle East and Singapore. It has a wide customer base in the Education, Government, Telecom, Financial Services (Banking & Insurance), Retail, Pharmaceutical, and Software Products sectors.

National Board of Accreditation (NBA), India has laid down a set of specific guidelines for the institutes in India to achieve Outcome Based Education (OBE). This involves framing cohesive Program Education Objectives (PEOs), Program Outcomes (POs), Course Outcomes (COs), and ensuring assessment and attainment of these outcomes. IonCUDOS Software would be introduced at Sahyadri to adopt and implement OBE, hence the workshop to all faculty members was held.

HOD of Information Science and Engineering Conferred with PhD from IIIT-Allahabad  Dr. Shamanth Rai, HOD, Information Science & Engineering was conferred with PhD from IIIT- Allahabad, on the 12th convocation held on September 9, 2017. He received his degree from Padma Bhushan Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat, renowned scientist and member of NITI Aayog. The other reputed dignitaries were Mr. Ravi Kant, CEO, Tata Motors and Prof. P. Nagabhushan, Director, IIIT-Allahabad. Dr. Shamanth Rai would like to dedicate his PhD to the entire Sahyadri family and his family members.

Former Principal of SDM Engineering College, Dharawad visits Sahyadri

Former Principal of SDM Engineering College Dr. S Mohan Kumar, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Malnad College of Engineering, Hassan and former Principal of SDM College of Engineering, Dharawad visited Sahyadri and interacted with the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Principal, Vice-Principal and faculty members. He had discussions with Mr. Sundaram Sunder of Caliper Company located in the campus. He went around the campus and expressed his appreciation for the infrastructure and various new initiatives of Sahyadri which are unique in the country. He commended the achievement of Sahyadri in a short span of over 10 years. Dr. Mohan Kumar, who has done both M.Tech and Ph.D from IIT’s has more than 37 years of experience in Academics. His areas of Interest are System Modeling, Control and Robotics. He has published research articles in 5 National Journals and 15 International Journals. He has also published in 21 National Conferences and 14 international Conferences.

Assistant Commissioner, GST, Mangaluru South Division addresses MBA students on GST A session on GST for MBA students was facilitated by Mr. Shreyas K M, Assistant Commissioner, Goods & Service Tax, Mangaluru South Division. In his talk, he outlined the importance of GST, Challenges in implementing GST and also the Types of Tax Rates. He mentioned that every citizen wants a civilized society, hence the government collects tax. He also mentioned the significance of collecting tax in India unlike some other countries that collect donations. He highlighted that the major spending of the Government is on Indian Army which protects the nation and hence it becomes our moral responsibility towards tax. Government has a power on certain portion of the money held by an individual. The current GST structure focuses on “Take it from the have’s and distribute it among the have not’s”. He appreciated the Government in their attempt to wealth re-distribution. While quoting the example of cigarette which falls under high tax bracket, he mentioned that GST has influenced change in behaviour related to sin products/goods.

He also created awareness among the students about how the ignorant are exploited by the learned for Registering to GST. This is a user friendly process initiated by the Government; however the agencies are charging high against free registration online for GST. He walked the students through the various Tax Rates – Nil-Rated, 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%+cess. Session concluded with Q&A wherein students brought into light the issues faced by them with the implementation of GST and the Assistant Commissioner welcomed any complaints with regards to fraudulent activities that we come across in the name of GST.

Final year MBA Students attend Shraddha17 Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru had organized Shraddha’17 – Seminar for Post Graduate Students on the topic “Awakening Inner Strength” in the Ashrama auditorium. The One-Day Seminar started with a formal inaugural ceremony in the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji Maharaj, Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru, Revered Swami Shantatmanandaji Maharaj, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, New Delhi, Mr. Pramod Madhvaraj, Honourable Minister for Fisheries, Sports & Youth Affairs, Govt of Karnataka, Mr. J R Lobo, Honourable MLA, Mangaluru South Chief Guest for the programme and Mr. V. Srinivas, CEO, Illuminate Knowledge Resources, Mumbai.

The first session was handled by Revered Swami Shantatmanandaji Maharaj, on the topic “Awakening Inner Strength”. In his speech, he stressed on “Atma Shradha” which meant “Faith in one’s potential”. He gave examples of several eminent personalities and shared their inspiring life stories. He beckoned the students to work towards nation building activities.

The second session was by Mr. Srinivas.V, who leads a team at “Illuminate Knowledge Resources”, a design lab and consulting firm specializing in architecting design collectives in various Institutional and community settings. He spoke on the topic “Growth with Roots – A Vision for our Careers”. He spoke about the challenges and opportunities in front of students. He emphasized that “It is not the Profession that matters, but the Mindset”. He asked the Gen-Next to be a job creator than a mere job seeker in the wake of ever changing industry requirements. He also gave away few success mantras to students to succeed in their lives.

Prof. K Raghothama Rao delivered the last session on “Realize your Potential”. He has over two decades of teaching and training experience, having trained students, teachers and corporate, both in India and abroad. He is the Director of MANAS Centre for Training & Development, Bengaluru & Director of Human Networking Academy. He inspired students to put in more efforts to realize their dreams. He conducted several activities in order to invoke and unleash the hidden talents of students. About 100 final year MBA students along with five faculty members attended the programme.

MBA Alumna addresses the students Ruchiga V, an Alumna of 2015 MBA batch currently recruited by an Oman Based Pipe Manufacturing company as an HR Executive interacted with the MBAs.

During her talk, she urged the students to pursue maximum number of projects during the course of their study as the current trend in selection process is basis the experiences the candidate has apart from the MBA curriculum. She also highlighted the importance of online courses that are available for free and which the MBA faculty constantly insist on pursuing the course. These shall add great value to the profile and help in grooming to be versatile. She added, the Daily News Analysis being carried out at Sahyadri has inculcated a culture of reading business news as a daily routine and feels incomplete without reading business news of the day after graduating from Sahyadri. This has equipped her to perform well in her GD round of interview.

Sahyadri students win Second Place at Verbattle Karnataka 2017
In the Verbattle Karnataka 2017 finals held at Garden City University, Bengaluru, a team from Sahyadri consisting of P Sanjay from Mechanical Department and Nivya Rodrigues from Electronics and Communication Department made it to the top 3 teams of Karnataka for the final round and won the Second place. The final round was a One-Hour debate which included debating on 3 different statements and Q& A Round. The finalists will be featured in the Verbattle Magazine which will be issued worldwide.

Nivya Rodrigues was awarded the best speaker of Verbattle 2017.

The programme was titled – “Teacher’s Day Out”. Deeksha A D, final year MBA student is one of the partners of this channel. Prof. Sushma had a privilege to be a part of this show along with a renowned academician Mr. Vrishabharaj Jain, a retired professor from SVS College, Bantwal.

MBA Faculty Invited as Resource Persons for a One-Day Workshop at Crossland, Bramhavar In an age of economic and information technology revolution, expansion of banking and financial sector is irresistible. Coming up with thousands of job opportunities every year, the sector receives lakhs of applications from job seekers pursuing secure and thriving career in the field. Opportunities are immense and challenges are enormous in the prevailing bank job scenario. In order to give more insight on this subject, a One-Day UGC sponsored workshop was organized on “Opportunities & Challenges in Banking Sector” by Crossland College, Bramhavar. Prof. Ramesh K.G, Prof. Girish Madla, Prof. Rashmi Kodikal, Prof. Gayathri Shetty from Dept of Business Administration and Prof. Hyder Ali, from Govt. first grade College, Bantwal were the resource persons for the day-long workshop.

K Samuel, Principal, Crossland College, Brahmavar, Prof. Girish Madla, Dept. of Business Administration - Chief Guest of the workshop, Prof. Elizebeth Roy, HOD of Commerce Department, Crossland College, Brahmavar and Programme Convener Prof. Girish Rao, Crossland College, Brahmavar. The programme had four key sessions followed by a Panel discussion. The resource persons covered a gamut of banking topics like “Evolution of Banking”, “Banking Law - Legal Framework, Credit process, NPA, Priority Sector Lending”, “Nuances of Clearing Operations” and “Digital Banking”. The resource persons highlighted on the various job roles available in the banking sector and explained the challenges and the pre-requisites of the ever changing banking roles. They motivated the students to take up jobs in Banking as this industry had a huge potential to grow in the future and would have several job opportunities to offer in the days to come. Students appreciated the efforts of the resource persons and thanked them for their valuable guidance. The programme was summed with a brief Valedictory Programme. 67 Students from 9 different colleges participated in the workshop.
