Team Sahyadri attended BRIDGE 2017 Team Sahyadri headed by Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal attended The All India Level Industry -Institute Interaction Event held in Bengaluru.

The "ICT Academy BRIDGE conference" with the theme "THE FUTURE OF WORK" was the convergence of the stakeholders driving Skill India, Digital India, Start-up India and Make in India, discussing the role and importance in creating next generation talent pool for the future of work, thereby leading to the transformation of India in line with global benchmarks. The speakers emphasized that the current technological revolution need not become a race between humans and machines but rather an opportunity for work to truly become a channel through which people recognize their full potential. Hence the stake holders must become more specific and much faster in understanding the changes underway and cognizant of their collective responsibility to lead the educational ecosystem through this transformative moment. Also, the discussions and interactions highlighted that it is critical that educational institutions, corporate and Government take a proactive approach in creating an enabling environment more rapidly and creatively.

Sahyadri receives Research Promotion Scheme (RPS) grant of AICTE under Dr. S Manjappa

Dr. S Manjappa, Director (R&D) has received Research Grant of Rupees 13 Lakhs from AICTE under the Research Promotion Scheme (RPS) for the Project "Production of Bio Diesel from fish oil on extracting omega-3 fatty acid from fish oil".

This project will be carried out in the Department of Mechanical Engineering for the duration of 3 years. RPS promotes research in identified thrust areas in Technical Education. RPS is aimed to create research ambiance in the institutes by promoting research in engineering sciences and innovations in established and newer technologies; and to generate Master’s and Doctoral degree candidates to augment the quality of faculty and research personnel in the country.

Sahyadri compliments Dr. S Manjappa and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Students or faculty interested in this area can associate with Dr. S Manjappa as an internship.

Dr. B N Karkera during the 50th Anniversary of Engineers Day at Institution of Engineers

Dr. B N Karkera during the 50th Anniversary of Engineers Day at Institution of Engineers Dr. B. N. Karkera gave the Keynote Address during the 50th Anniversary of Engineers Day at Institution of Engineers (I), Bengaluru. This synchronized with the 157th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya. The theme of the Keynote was 'Role of Engineers in Developing India'. Dr. Karkera covered variety of topics close to his heart such as Sailing Saucer, Body phone, Solar winged quad copter including 'Jem of Karkera'. The function highlighted the sad fact: In 1984 India contributed 3% to the world's Knowledge base along with China; but today India contributes 4% while China contributes 37%. This is a WAKE UP CALL to all engineers, managers as well as politicians.

CSE Student gets pre-placement offer at TVS Motor Company Ltd

Students attend a Seminar on “Art of Success”

Art of Success The students of final year engineering and MBA attended a Seminar on Art of Success organized by Bunt's Alias Nadavara Mathr Sangha in collaboration with Chanakya IAS Academy at the Town Hall, Mangaluru. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. N Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, NITTE University. Ambassador Balakrishna Shetty, IFS and Mr. S C Panda, IAS, Ex-CEO, Prasad Bharti were also present. The Seminar was facilitated by the Success Guru A K Misra, who inspired the students to try a career in IAS, IFS, IPS and other Civil Services. The Seminar focused on eradicating the myths about Civil Service Examination. Mr. Misra spoke about life transformation, Art of Success and the traits required to succeed in life. The students were accompanied by Ms. Shreelatha , Academic Administrative Officer, Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor and Engineering Faculty members - Prof. Naitik, Prof. Girish, and Prof. Kranthi.

Two-Day Digital Marketing Workshop for MBAs

Day One of Digital Marketing Workshop for MBAs During the Day One of the Digital Marketing Workshop for MBAs organized by CarpeDiem IIMC & Makeintern, Mr. Kumar MS, IIMC Certified Digital Marketing & E-Business Mentor introduced the participants to the term of Digital Marketing and its contribution to business. He of Digital Marketing and its contribution to business. He briefed the students that E-Commerce existed many years ago, however gained its importance only after the year 2011 when the Internet Revolution happened. In India, 30% of the population has access to internet since majority of the population is below the age group of 35. He cited examples of Online Marketing companies which has a valuation of more than one billion dollars and they have only one source and that is the website through which they carry out their business operations. Starting a company has now become easy. Just launch a website and kick start operations online.

During the afternoon session, he introduced the students to the Digital Marketing tools through which they could brand their organization/products. They had hands-on experience on designing a page, logos and posts.

39 students participated in the training and on completion shall be issued a certificate from Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIMC) and Makeintern. Apart from this, the Top 5 students through the evaluation process shall be sponsored by Makeintern to participate in Carpe Diem 2017-18, a management fest organized by IIM Calcutta in Jan-Feb 2018.

Digital Marketing Workshop The Two-Day Workshop on Digital Marketing concluded with the Top 5 students – Aishwarya Vijayan, Neema Shetty, Kalpitha Poojary, Davis Tom, and Deeksha A D being selected from the 39, to take part in Carpe Diem 2017-18, a management fest organized by IIM Calcutta in Jan-Feb 2018.

Digital Marketing Workshop During the Day Two, students had Hands-On various marketing strategies on social media, uploading videos and marketing on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter etc. They had an overnight assignment to select a product which already exists and brand it through presentation in class. At the end of the Two-Day Workshop, students applied the theory they learnt on the Day One to practice on the Day Two. All participants have received certification and the Top 5 students have received MERIT certificate from IIMC and Makeintern.

Induction programme for MBA students 2017-19 Batch

Inaugural of Weeklong Induction programme for MBA A Seven day Induction Programme for the New Entrants to the MBA course for the year 2017-19 Batch commenced in the Campus with Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration welcoming the students and introducing them to the Sahyadri Institution. Dr. Rashmi Kodikal, the Programme Coordinator gave an insight about Induction and divulged the details of the entire programme.

Inaugural of Weeklong Induction programmeThe Chief Guest, Mr. Rama Prasad, Lead HR - Employee Relations, Infosys shared effective tips on how the students should groom themselves in the two years to a level that is expected by corporate organizations. During his session, he urged the students to create their dream and nurture it. While declaring the induction programme open he emphasized on good character building and advised students to work on the same lines. He highlighted on the core competencies students need to develop during their course of study. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal in his Presidential Address, urged them not to study MBA but to live MBA.

First session was on “Growth Story of Sahyadri” by the Principal. He stated that greatest education is in learning to unlearn and re-learn and look at life from a holistic perspective. He asked the students to aim at acquiring knowledge in all domains of MBA. He cited various live stories of successful people and told students that failure is the stepping stone of success.

In the post lunch session, Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration introduced all the faculty members and highlighted their achievements. Post this, committee co-ordinators briefed students about the various committees and their role in each of them.

Mr. Vilas Nayak, Chairman Hanuman group of concerns During the Day Two, Session One was facilitated by Mr. Vilas Nayak, Chairman & Managing Director, Hanuman group of concerns on the topic - “Entrepreneurship: Challenges & Opportunities of Family business”. Mr. Vilas Nayak started with the discussion about the current job market scenario and created awareness regarding the lack of right people for right jobs. He also stressed on the point that, these days, youth are moving away from their home towns to fulfil their ambition which can be achieved even by staying back in their home towns. He narrated his journey of becoming an entrepreneur. Students were able to grasp values and confidence from this session.

Session Two was taken up by Dr. Rameela Shekar, Dean, PG Department, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya on Psycho–Socio Wellbeing of Youth. The session oriented towards introspection and conveyed that the essence of wellbeing is through mental & physical wellbeing. The session also highlighted the Principles of psychological well being and asked students to focus and concentrate on realistic appraisal of situations.

Session Three was facilitated by Prof. (Major) M. Radhakrishna, Freelancer Master Facilitator & Trainer in HR & TQM. The session was about marching towards mission with a concept of dare, dream big, and do it. He told students to pursue their passion, live lively, dwell dignified, and feel fulfilled.

Mr. Vilas Nayak, Chairman Hanuman group of concerns The first session of third day started with Dr. Malini Hebbar, Associate Professor, St. Agnes College speaking about “Personal Effectiveness”. She used the JOHARI Window Model to enlighten students about self appraisal. She emphasized on effectiveness of Synergy, Team Learning & the power of communication.

Session Two was facilitated by Mr. Pronob Chetia, Director - Human Resources, Volvo Group Trucks Operations. He narrated his life story and told students about the challenges they may come across in life. Besides, he highlighted the relevance of Digitalization leading to change in the job markets and on how Winning culture is becoming the priority for all the leaders. He stressed that in order to see transformations in life through MBA, keen attention should be paid to competence management, learning strategy & success factors.

Session Three was engaged by Mr. Uttam Haridas, Asset Serving Consultant, Thomson Reuters. He spoke about his career progression and the reasons he opted for his profile in Thomson Reuters. During his session, he highlighted the relevance of staying focused in life and how the change of priorities affects the path of life. Second part of the session was on quality check and its relevance in the corporate world. He gave a check list of factors that students have to incorporate in their life to be the successful employees especially in the MNC’s. The session concluded with elaborate explanation about Six Sigma - its origin, evolution and relevance.

FLAMES - Student Association of Mechanical Engineering Inaugurated

FLAMES - Student Association of Mechanical Engineering Inaugurated FLAMES (Fulfilling Aspirations of Mechanical Engineering Students), a student association of the Department of Mechanical Engineering for the academic year 2017-18 was inaugurated by Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, Principal, SMVITM, Bantakal, Udupi. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Bhat dwelt on the importance of Mechanical Engineering and further advised the students to use their potential to the full extent. He also appreciated the idea of forming an association within department and suggested about the implications as well as benefits that the association could have on the students and participants. Prof S. S. Balakrishna, Vice-Principal addressed and congratulated the gathering. He also expressed his whole hearted support towards the working of the association. Prof. Mahesh B. Davanageri, President of FLAMES & HOD of the Department, gave introductory remarks. Dr. J V Gorabal, Dean Academics, spoke encouragingly on the endeavours of the department and wished the association a successful year ahead.

Climate Change Quiz held at Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru

Team Sahyadri attended BRIDGE 2017 Students from third semester Civil Engineering Department participated in “Climate Change Quiz” held at J N TATA Auditorium, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru which was organized by Divecha Centre for Climate Change Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru.

The students also attended Technical talk on “ELEVENTH JEREMY GRANTHAM” on “Climate change – Too late for Paris” by Thomas Stocker, Professor Climate and environmental Physics, University of Bern, Switzerland. Students who participated in the event are - Sowmya K, S Ashwin Bhat, Ahmed Waleed B, Aleemath Nissa K, Asmath Sharmeen T S accompanied by Prof. Sanjith S Anchan and Prof. Anil Kumar N S, Dept. of Civil Engineering.

Jaro Education conducts Pool Campus at Sahyadri

Mr. Vilas Nayak, Chairman Hanuman group of concerns A Pool campus drive for Undergraduates and Post graduates was conducted recently by Jaro Education. 114 students from UG and PG colleges participated in the drive. Mr. Pramod and Mr. Mihir, part of the recruitment team of Jaro conducted the drive. 4 students are shortlisted for the final round of interview.
