Managing Director of Criss Cross International Pvt. Ltd. Nepal visited Sahyadri Mr. Kunja Rajbhandari, Managing Director of Criss Cross, International Pvt. Ltd, from Kathmandu Nepal along with Dr. Shiva Sharan Shetty, the Managing Director of Namma TV Channel visited Sahyadri.

Mr. Kunja Rajbhandari graduated from Tribhuvan University & has tremendous years of experience in related field. Criss Cross International Pvt. Ltd is a leading Education Consultancy in Nepal. It is actively engaged in guiding students for their higher education. It is authorized by Ministry of Education, Nepal and Educational Consultancies Association, Nepal (ECAN). Criss Cross is involved in Educational Counselling, Career Counselling, Educational Seminar & Workshops, Test preparation and Language classes, Documentation & Visa Processing.

Both Mr. Kunja and Dr. Shiva Sharan went around the campus and visited the in-house start-ups and industries. They appreciated Sahyadri for creating a conducive learning environment for the students.

VTU results of IV Semester MBA are declared. Out of 166 students who appeared for the VTU Examination, 152 students have passed.

Besant Women's College, Mangaluru, students visit Start-ups & Industries at Sahyadri Besant Women's College, Mangaluru, students visit Start-ups & Industries at Sahyadri A total of 85 students pursuing B.Com (Secretarial Practice) visited Start-ups and industries at Sahyadri along with their faculty members - Prof. Vidya Bhat and Prof. Shaila Kamath. The students were addressed by Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA regarding the department and also about the start-ups and the opportunities students have in Sahyadri Campus. She informed that Sahyadri is open for anyone to come and study and also utilize the resources available at the campus. The students and faculty members were then taken in groups to different start-ups by MBA student council members. The team from Besant Women's College was amazed to the see the functioning of the industries and also learnt about the products and services offered by each of the start-up companies.

Faculty of Besant Women's College were happy to learn the growth story and also interacted with the companies to send their students as interns. They also expressed that they would like to get their BA, BBM, B.Com (Taxation) and PUC students for the visit.

New website launched by Dr S Ramakrishna Sharma “A Computer Literate, Internet Enabled Teacher is Better Equipped to Create Nation Building Generation.”

On the Teacher’s Day, a new website www.ishaa.org.in was launched by Dr. S Ramakrishna Sharma under the initiative of M/S Foundation for Indian Scientific Heritage ® Trust founded by him. The website keeps in view that the “Best from the Past and the Best from the Present for Better Future” is the Key to creative and productive innovations. An online platform for required resources is being evolved through this website. “Variety provides the brain Health and Strength. So is with educational institutions. Multidisciplinary research is the Door to progress”.

The website offers services under the registered Trade Mark as above. Dr. Y Bharath Shetty, MLA inaugurated the website and speaking on the occasion he emphasized the need for open mindedness towards Indian scientific resources. The Vedas are mistaken as religious books which are actually NOT. Hundreds of Rishis who gave them to us were scientists in the true sense. PG Centre of Govinda Dasa College, Surathkal hosted the function as joint venture with Foundation for Indian Scientific Heritage Trust, Surathkal.

Dr. S M Prasanna Kumar addressed the Civil Engineering faculty on Effective Teaching Methods Dr. S M Prasanna Kumar addressed the Civil Engineering faculty on Effective Teaching Methods Dr. S M Prasanna Kumar, Director, Ghanta College of Engineering addressed the Civil Engineering faculty about the need of the hour in improvisation of teaching methods for the effective delivery of lecture. He stressed on the use of technology and various softwares like pencil sketching, studio and CAM studio to create a virtual 3D classroom environment so that student get a feel of the practicality in the various aspects of Civil Engineering. He also showed a demo wherein a complicated structural topic was made simpler by using animation (visual presentation) so that students understand effectively and precisely. He also stated that for being an effective teacher it is very important to understand the pulse of the class and then adopt teaching methods depending on the intellect of the class.

Sahyadri Students attend the commemoration of 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda's Chicago Address at Ramakrishna Matt, Mangaluru The first year engineering students attended the commemoration ceremony the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda's address in Chicago organized by Ramakrishna Matt, Mangaladevi, Mangaluru. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. B R Ravikanthe Gowda IPS, Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada District, in the august presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji, Adhyaksha of Ramakrishna Matt, Mangaluru and the Chief Guest Capt. Ganesh Karnik, Former Member of Legislative Council, Govt. of Karnataka. The programme had three sessions by eminent personalities from the various fields who were invited to motivate the youth. The first session was by Prof. Vijay Menon, Professor of Human Resource Development and Training panellist in the IAS training Academy. He spoke on the Foundations of Human Excellence; the session was a high powered one that inspired everyone. The second session was by Shrikrishna Upadhyaya, an ardent admirer and avid follower of Swami Vivekananda. He addressed the students on the life-changing message of Swami Vivekananda, his values and role of youth in nation building. The next session was by Prof. Raghothama Rao K, Director of MANAS Centre for Training and Development, Bengaluru, who spoke on the topic Swami Vivekananda – The Youth Icon.

Commemoration of World Suicide Prevention Day and initiation of Spandana Team – Student Support Volunteer network Commemoration of World Suicide Prevention Day and initiation of Spandana Team – Student Support Volunteer network Department of Academics in association with Student Council and NSS unit commemorated the World Suicide Prevention day by organizing Poster Competition and Awareness talk on Youth and Well Being by Dr. Smitha Tarachandran, MD in Psychiatry, Asst. Professor, Department of Psychiatry, K S Hegde Medical Academy. She took up a session on the Common Psychological Problems faced by students to the team of volunteers who were selected from every section of engineering and management.

Spandana Team – is an initiative by the department of Academics to select 4 volunteers from every class and section who will be trained to identify the students in their class who are in psychological distress and report to the concerned authority for intervention. This team of volunteers will be vigilant of all the students in their class and look for any sign of psychological distress that their fellow classmates may be suffering and take actions to lead a helping hand to them.

During the programme, Ms. Shreelatha U. A, Academic Administrative Officer gave the rationale for the programme and explained the objectives and purpose of creating Team Spandana. Dr. Rajesha, Dean-Academics and the Resource person – Dr. Smitha launched team Spandana poster thereby, officially inaugurating the team network. Dr. Smitha explained the most common types of psychological problems faced by students such as Anxiety, depression, mood swing, substances abuse, suicide, psychosis, risk behaviours, internet addictions and eating disorders. Dr. Rajesha gave the presidential address and urged the students to work together to create a healthy environment in the campus. Prizes were distributed for the winners of the poster competition on the theme of suicide prevention. Ms. Devyani of First year engineering won the first prize and Ms. Hemavathy of 2nd year MBA won the second prize. Team Spandana will work as a strong student support system where students will help their peers to cope with the psychological distress.

E&C Engineering Faculty has been conferred with the Doctorate Degree at IIIT-A

Faculty has been conferred with the Doctorate Degree at IIIT-A Mr. Anush Bekal, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics & Communications Engineering has been conferred with the doctorate degree at the 13th convocation held at the prestigious Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (IIIT-A). The title of his PhD thesis is "Improved Design of Asynchronous ADC with Reduced Comparator Counts" which was carried out under the guidance of Dr. Manish Goswami, Associate Professor & HOD, Department of Electronics & Communication (Microelectronics Division), IIIT-A. This research work was jointly carried out with Prof. Ashok Srivastava, Louisiana State University, USA which has lead to the fabrication of the Integrated Circuit prototype (credits: MOSIS foundry) and has resulted in 6 publications in the standard SCI-journals and IEEE International conferences.

Department of Civil Engineering signs MOU with ACT CAD

Department of Civil Engineering signs MOU with ACT CAD Er. Murali Krishna M, Managing Director, Jytra Engineering Services, Hyderabad was the resource person for the day. During his address, he highlighted about the importance of ACT CAD software applications in Civil & Mechanical Engineering and various legal aspects that the user should be aware of. Mr. Murali encouraged the students to carry out further research and also develop tools in ACT CAD which could be incorporated in the software in the near future. Prof. Premanand Shenoy, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering; Prof. Sunil Kumar K, HoD, Department of Civil Engineering; Dr. Ravichandra Rangappa, Dean-Industry Connect and Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal were a part of the formal function. Post this; there was a presentation to the students regarding the ACT CAD by Mr. Murali Krishna. This MOU will help the students of Civil Engineering to get a certification for their industry connect courses by ACT CAD which will be the authorized training partner for the days to come.

She has worked in various top companies like Span Infotech, Robert Bosch and Tata Power in Mumbai.

Corporate Grooming refers to sensible dressing at workplace which will help an individual make an impact in the first meet itself. As an individual living and working in a highly complex and competitive society, you must recognize and understand the impact of your appearance as it communicates first to you and then to others. She spoke about the three important things that one needs to remember are - Grooming, Body Language and Dress Code. The first impression is the last impression. She mentioned about the various types of dressing like Indian Corporate Wear, Western Corporate Wear and Creative Formals. Young graduates and fresher’s who are preparing for job interviews should follow some basic dress codes and avoid flashy outfits.

Alumnus interacts with Mechanical Engineering students Mr. Shreyas Alva, an Alumnus currently working at MCF Mangaluru interacted with the students of Mechanical Engineering. In his talk, he explained the role of engineers in nation building and also advised students to imbibe leadership qualities. Further, he shared his experiences and spoke on the importance of internships. He also discussed on the possible internship opportunities at MCF Mangaluru.

Inauguration of STAISE 2018-19

Inauguration of STAISE 2018-19 The Student’s Technical Association of Information Science & Engineering was inaugurated by Mr. Vishal Pinto, Software Developer, Tetherfi, Mangaluru. Mr. Pinto addressed the students on the need and importance of an association, the lessons he learnt in Sahyadri as a student, the experience in his company - Tetherfi, the current education system, the career path and the current trends in technology. He gave two important messages to the students: “Always aim for excellence, do not settle for mediocrity” and “Do what you love”.

Head of Information Science & Engineering - Dr. Shamanth Rai, in his welcome address highlighted the roadmap of STAISE 2018-19 and also welcomed the students of second year into the department.
