Aerophilia 2019

Aerophilia-2019Aerophilia-2019 Aerophilia 2019, a Two-Day National Level Aeromodelling competition was held in the campus and ISRO Hackathon was a part of this mega event. Aerophilia was inaugurated on 20th Sep, 2019 by the Guests Mr. Manish Saxena, Mr. Akhileshwar Reddy, Mr. AkshayPande, Ms. KanikaJakhar and Mr. Prasun Kumar. This was followed by a workshop headed by the Senior ISRO Scientist - Ms. KanikaJakhar, explaining briefly about NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation) including data transfers through Bluetooth, USB cable and through GPRS. The next session was handled by CEO of DSI - Mr. Sachin Ganesh & team, who briefed about practical use of these devices and use of MIT App Inventor.

Aerophilia-2019Aerophilia-2019 After attending workshops and the sessions, participants worked on projects implementing the NavIC devices provided by ISRO. The participants enthusiastically started working on their own idea which required the choice of devices provided and implementing it using an application or a website.
On 21st Sep, 2019, there was a technical talk given by Mr. Manish Saxena, which was conducted for students from Dept. of Electronics & Communication and First year followed by the technical assistance by DSI and supported by other launch pads.

Aerophilia-2019Aerophilia-2019 The 36 hours ISRO Hackathon came to an end with all participants gaining knowledge about their idea and getting exposed to NavIC modules by providing a hands-on experience to them.

The Hackathon concluded on 22nd Sep, 2019, with the pitching session by 20 teams coming from various colleges including MITE, SDIT, SJEC, Indian Navy, MITS, BIT, MHSC, IIAEM-Jain University, EEC, SMVITM, and SMVEC. After which, there was an evaluation session done by the ISRO jury members. The event ended with a Valedictory Ceremony.

They interacted with the Aerophilia Event head - Mr. Abdul Shameer to get more insight on academic practices in connection to the in-house industries and Start-ups. The visitors were impressed with the work culture of the institution and expressed their views to get associated to the college by doing internship in the in-house industries in the campus.

AICTE-INAE Distinguished Professor S. SeetharamuVisits the Department of Mechanical Engineering

AICTE-INAE Dr. S. Seetharamu, currently Technical Advisor for National Design Research Forum (NDRF) and Formerly Director of Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), Bengaluru, visited the Department of Mechanical Engineering on September 21, 2019 in connection with planning the work-programs under the AICTE-INAE Distinguished Visiting Professorship Scheme. He also participated in the Seminar on “Future Technological Trends in Ceramic Materials” that was held in the College. Prof. Seetharamu had been selected as AICTE- INAE Distinguished Visiting Professor for Department of Mechanical Engineering of our College under the above scheme for a period of one year starting from Jun 1, 2019 upto May 31, 2020 which is extendable up to 5 years as industry expert.

Dr. S. Seetharamu received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Science in 1982 after completing M.E. in Mechanical Engineering from IIScand B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Bangalore University. Dr. S. Seetharamu joined CPRI after serving in L&T and retired as Director of CPRI. He has also served as a Faculty at Toyohashi University of Technology, Japan.

His visit to the department was concluded with an interaction with faculty members focused on planning the technical activities to be organized for the benefits of the students and faculty members during his future visits.

Infosys recruits BIG number from Sahyadri

Sixty Eight from the Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, Thirty Seven from the Dept. of Information Science & Engineering, Twenty Seven from the Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Thirteen from the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering & One from the Dept. of Civil Engineering for the position of System Engineer Trainee in the recently held campus recruitment drive held on 20th Sep' 19.

Ms. Shreelatha U A, Academic Administrative Officer, introduced and welcomed Ms. Nisha Felicita, Senior Associate, DKMS–BMST Foundation, Bengaluru who provided awareness about Blood Cancer, Blood Stem Cell donation, importance of blood stem cell donation, the eligibility and process of donation. She also encouraged the students to volunteer for the donation.

The registration of donors will be held on Friday 27th September, 2019 at Sahyadri, Second floor Seminar Hall. Interested faculty and students can register themselves as volunteers.

The volunteers provided their HLA samples collected from their mouth through buccal swab and they got themselves registered in the universal database. The Camp received good response, as more than 250 members participated in the camp.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized “Catapult 2.0” on 28th Sep’19 at Sahyadri. The event was held with an aim of providing a platform for the students to exhibit their technical talent. The event saw the participation of over 43 teams from 6 different colleges, to present the different designs of ballistic device that could propel projectiles. Dr. R. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal, Sahyadri inaugurated the programme.In his the inaugural address, Principal shared his personal anecdotes and eulogized the department for organizing the event. Prof. S. S. Balakrishna, Vice-Principal; Dr. Rajesha S, Dean-Academics; Dr Manjappa S, Director- Research and Prof. Ravichandra, Head of Dept. of Mechanical Engineering graced the event.

Dr. R. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal inaugurated the event in his Presidential address encouraged students to develop greater insights in the field of advanced materials. He also eulogised the department for having arranged the seminar. Speakers from various prestigious universities and forums graced the occasion.

In-house industries and Start-ups of Sahyadri have presented their products and services at the booth during the three days. Engineering students namely Rahul from Second year; Dhanush and Deekshith from Third year and Akarsh Shetty, Pushparaj & Ramkishor from Final year are have taken part in this exhibition gaining huge learning exposure, connects and leads.

Department of Computer Science & Engineering organized IT Quiz-Chanakya 2019 Department of Computer Science & Engineering organized a One day IT Quiz-Chanakya 2019 on 28th Sept’19 at Sahyadri. This competition was open for all the Graduate and Post Graduate students of Various colleges and Universities of college in Karnataka. Nearly 150 Teams from various colleges from Karnataka participated in this event. Mr. Shailesh shetty, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering was the Quiz Master for the event. Top six teams were qualified for the final round, final results are awaited.

On 21st Sep19, the Day Six of Induction Programme for the First Year MBAs, the Student Council Members facilitated a session and gave insights about the MBA life at Sahyadri. They also shared their experiences about Internship, preparation for Placements and Tips on Academic performance. Council members re-iterated the vast opportunities available at the institution. Treasure Hunt was also conducted which helped the new entrants to familiarize with the campus.

Post this, Mr. Ramana and Team held a session about his Journey from Engineering to Start-up - 'Manframe Computers'. The team gave insights of the company and gave information about the products and services of the company.

On 23rd Sep19, Day Seven, Mr. RamaniVenkat, NLP trainer, Mentor to start-ups, Serial Entrepreneur, Sales and Strategic Consultant to mid-sized companies interacted with the students on the topic ‘Art of influencing others’ and ‘Mind-set Programming’. This session emphasized on the importance of developing knowledge and skill-sets rather than just obtaining a degree. He emphasized on increasing one’s brand value. Afternoon session was on Decision making skills, where cases were given and students had to come up with the best decisions for the respective case.

The IEEE Execom meeting of IEEE, Mangalore sub-section was held at Sahyadri on 21st Sep’19. Prof. Manohara Pai, IEEE chair addressed the students of IEEE- Student chapter Sahyadri and gave them the insights about the IEEE as a professional body and its advantages to the student community. He also urged the students to organize quality technical events under the IEEE banner.

In this meeting, various events to be held by the Mangalore sub-section were also discussed. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Manohara Pai, Professor MIT, Manipal. IEEE professional body members from various institutes like NIT, Surathkal; MIT, Manipal; NMAMIT-NITTE; CEC, Bantwaland so on attended the meeting. Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal; Dr. Ashwath Rao, Head of Dept. of Electronics &Communication Engineering and Dr. Shamanth Rai, Head of Dept. of Information Science & Engineering & IEEE Student Branch Counselor represented Sahyadri in addition to all the student branch members of IEEE- Sahyadri.


Campus Recruitment Drive - IBM India

Campus-Recruitment-Drive-IBM-India IBM conducted a campus recruitment drive on the 21st & 22nd Sept' 19 for the students of 2020 outgoing batch. A total of 465 students from the Dept. of Computer Science, Information Science and Electronics & Communication Engineering participated in the drive, out of which, 61 students were shortlisted. The final results are awaited.

Campus Recruitment Drive – FACE FACE (Focus Academy for Career Enhancement) conducted an exclusive campus recruitment drive on 26th Sept'19 for the students of 2020 batch. A total of 170 students from all branches of Engineering participated in the drive. Two students, Ms. Shruthi D Shetty, Department of Information Science & Engineering and Ms. Shakshi Kumari, Department of Mechanical Engineering got selected for the position of ‘Business Analyst’.

The result for the position of ‘Software Developer’ is awaited.

IEEE Student Branch of Sahyadri organized a Tech-Talk The IEEE Student branch of Sahyadri organized a technical talk on 21st Sep’19. Prof. Basavaraj Talawar, Professor, NIT Surathkal delivered a Technical Talk on “Disruptive Technologies in Computing Systems”. In his talk, he gave glimpses on how there will be massive changes in the computer architecture which could disrupt the way in which computing is done. A total of 180 students from Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication and Information Science &Engineering participated in this tech talk.

Members of Sahyadri Motorsports Participated in Formula Bharath Academy Workshop

Sahyadri-Motorsports Members of Sahyadri Motorsports working with the project “Levitas Racing” - student version formula car have participated in the workshop conducted by Formula Bharath Academy in IIT Madras, Chennai on 22nd Sep, 2019. The workshop was based on detailing about Decision-Making during Design & Manufacturing of student Formula car. The participants were Shreyan Apposa from Department of Information Science & Engineering and Preethesh B, Vishal H K and Sohan Alva from the Mechanical Department.

The workshop also stressed on producing simple and efficient ways of delivering the cost report and business presentation. The students also got to witness sessions of eminent person from Mathworks and Ather Energy.

The Formula Bharat 2020 competition shall be taking place at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore during January 22 - 26, 2020. The competition will focus on the combustion category and will be following an adaptation of the Formula Student 2019 Rules document.

Prof. Naithik S T, Dept. of Information Science & Engineering and Manager COE - Cyber Security facilitated the session. He briefed about various Phishing attack. The topic was discussion using various case studies.

‘Direct Selling Business’ – A Guest talk for Engineering Students The ‘Direct Selling Business’, an industry interaction session was organized by the Dept. of Information Science & Engineering on 20th Sep’19, for the students of fifth semester as a part of the subject - Management and Entrepreneurship for Industry. The session was conducted by the resource person - Mr. Anand, Team Lead from Challengers Foundation, Bengaluru. Mr. Anand pursued his engineering from BMS Engineering College, Bengaluru. During the session, he discussed about the importance of direct selling business or multi-level marketing in the present market scenario. He also stressed on the benefits of being self employed.

First Year Engineering students to participate in Technical Fest • A total of 25 first year Engineering students of Clan Samyama will be participating in Roboveda, a technical Fest to be held from 26th September -29th September, 2019 at Srinidhi Institute of Science & Technology, Hyderabad.They are mentored by Mr. Vinyas from second year mechanical. The students will be participating in Manual Robots, Robo soccer and Robo race events.

First Year Engineering students to participate in Technical Fest • A total of 22 first year Engineering students of Clan Samagratha will be participating in Techsparda, a technical Fest to be held from 27th September -29th September, 2019 at National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra. They are mentored by Mr. Deexith from second year mechanical. The students will be participating in Maze up, Robo Soccer, Water Rocket, and RC bots.

First Year Engineering students to participate in Technical Fest • A total of 19 first year Engineering students of Clan Sankalp will be participating in Aarush, a National level techno-Management Fest to be held from 26th September -29th September, 2019 at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai. They are mentored by Mr. Pratham K B from second year mechanical. The students will be participating in Maze Runner, Line Follower, and Hovercraft.

Accolades to the achievements of Second year Computer Science & Engineering student

Mr. Vineet Nayak S, student of third semester Computer Science & Engineering has successfully completed his first internship from Internshala. He started his first Internship in the month of June as an Internshala Student Partner. Out of 17,000 students selected across India, he secured 91st Rank by showcasing his leadership and marketing skills and was selected as an ‘Internshala Student Partner’. During his internship, he delivered a classroom talk to his friends on "How to gain Experience and Pocket Money while learning". He also assisted his friends in finding internships by connecting with Internshala. At present he represents campus ambassador for ‘MyCaptain ‘and ‘Edvicer’ at Sahyadri.

MyCaptain is an online platform that helps students to take the first step in their field of passion with the help of young achievers, mentors and guides (Captains). Captains are under the age of 25 and have gone through the same journey these students wish to undertake. They are published authors, young entrepreneurs, investors, award-winning film makers, journalists, designers, developers etc. A student who wants to write a book gets mentored by a young published author. A student who is passionate about entrepreneurship is mentored by founders of startups.

Edvicer is a startup by IIT students, Delhi. It mainly deals with a course aggregator platform that will display, compare & recommend online courses offered by all major platforms such as Coursera, edX, Udemy, NPTEL and many more. Under the guidance of his mentor Prof. Rajesh Nayak, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering he was able to gain this remarkable achievement.

MBA department interacts with the Co-founder of Knowledge Varsity Faculty members of Dept. of Business Administration had an video-conference interaction with Mr. Ratan Gupta, Co-Founder of Knowledge Varsity on 27th Sep’19. The discussion was on introducing Certification Course on ‘Financial Modelling’ for the Final year batch of Finance- Specialization students. Mr. Ratan briefed about the course syllabus and the structure in which the course will be implemented for the students.

In commemoration with ‘158th Birth Anniversary of ‘Sir M Visvesvaraya’ and also the ‘52nd Engineer’s Day’, Department of Civil Engineering in association with Consulting Civil Engineers, Mangalore Centre has organized technical talk for IIIrd year Civil Engineering Students.

Mr. Ujwal D’souza, Director - Operations & Administration, Marian Projects and Dr. Raghavendra Holla, Professor, MIT, Manipal were invited as the guest speakers for the talk. Mr. Ujwal D’Souza, shared a few insights on Project Management stressing on the importance of Resource Management, Planning, Scheduling, Surveying some of the mandatory area of Civil Engineering field. In his talk, Er. Ujwal also highlighted about a range of job opportunities available in the field of Civil Engineering and how one should be prepared to grab each one of them.

Dr. Raghavendra Holla shared his thoughts on Professional Ethics emphasizing on the primary values of code of conduct and universal ethical principles to be followed in Civil Engineering Profession. He concluded his session by quoting – “Ethics is knowing the difference between what you have a right to do and what is right to do.”
