Chairman and Dr. Manjappa interact with delegates at AHMP Conference at Washington, DC

Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary and Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director, Research and Consultancy interact with international delegates at Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (AHMP) Conference at Washington, DC, USA. AHMP provides a cross-training tool that helps Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) professionals quickly and effectively obtain knowledge in new areas of Science and Technology. The Essentials of Hazardous Materials Management (EHMM) is designed as a broad introduction to the industry and provides instruction about laws and regulations as well as technologies and practices.

Medha 2016 – Seminar for Engineering Students by Ramakrishna Math

Ramakrishna Math, Mangalore had organized Medha – Seminar for Engineering Students on the topic 'Education for Self Reliance' in the Ashrama auditorium.

Swami Jitakamanandaji Maharaj, the president of Ramakrishna Math said in his key note address, "We have been organizing this seminar for nine years and is exclusively meant for students. Medha means intelligence and is an attempt to make the youth listen to the call of Swami Vivekananda and strive towards self- growth and contribute to the national progress. He adds, Strength must come to the nation through education. A nation is advanced in proportion as education and intelligence is spread among the masses.

Capt. Ganesh Karnik, Honorable MLC of Mangaluru, in his inaugural speech, motivated the students to take part in service activities like cleaning the city. He stressed upon contributing to our surroundings in small way.

Swami Bodhamayanandaji spoke on facing challenges of Life. He is presently the Director of Vivekananda Institute of Human Excellence run by Ramakrishna Math at Hyderabad.

Prof. K Raghothama Rao delivered a lecture on “Today’s Quality is Tomorrow’s Future”. He has over two decades of teaching and training experience, having trained students, teachers and corporate, both in India and abroad. He is the Director of MANAS Centre for Training & Development, Bangalore & Director of Human Networking Academy. He gave few best examples to the young generation to become successful entrepreneur.

Swami Nikhileshwaranandaji, head of Ramakrishna Mission at Vadodara spoke on “Self Reliance”. 295 students of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management along with 9 faculties participated in this programme.

Guest Talk by Mr. Dheeraj Shetty, Plant Head HR, Indo MIM Pvt. Ltd

Department of Business Administration organised guest talk by Mr. Dheeraj Shetty, Plant Head HR, Indo MIM Pvt. Ltd on the topic “Compensation Structure in India” for HR Students. In his lecture he stated that, Compensation is one of the most critical factors which has a direct bearing on the company’s recruitment rate, retention rate and employee satisfaction, hence HR must take extra care while designing the pay structure. He also emphasized the need for understanding the legalities that works in the framework of Compensation and one needs to imbibe these while planning out the pay structure.

He gave a bird’s eye view of the mechanism that prevails in structuring the compensation in the organization. He also conducted practical session on pay roll administration.

Induction Programme for New Entrants to the MBA Course

During the day four of Induction Programme for MBA, Mr. Ramani Venkat, NLP trainer, Motivational speaker, Serial entrepreneur and Strategic consultant took up an interactive and activity based session for the new incumbent. In his session he spoke about the importance of having a smart goal and encouraged students to achieve their dreams. He also motivated students to move forward and grab opportunities. He spoke about communication and importance of networking in student’s life. He concluded by stimulating them to believe that failure is the stepping stone to success. Unless we perform an action, we never know how close we are towards success.

Induction Programme for MBA new entrants

In a daylong Induction programme for MBA students, Dr. Nithin and Mr. Nishan Shashidar addressed on “How to build Self confidence”. They stressed on the importance of Ideation Process and called upon students to come up with innovative ideas. They beckoned the new incumbents to do a SWOT analysis and reviewed their outlook towards life and career. They also highlighted the various reasons for lack of confidence and suggested mechanism to build the same.

Afternoon session was engaged by Mrs. Bharathi Shevgoor who addressed the students about the do’s and dont’s in group discussion. She conducted a practical session of group discussion and gave away several tips for winning over the counterparts.

Industry Experts from UBER interact with MBAs

UBER Technologies Inc. is an American multinational online transportation network company headquartered in San Francisco, California. It develops markets and operates the UBER mobile "app", which allows consumers with smart phones to submit a trip request, which the software program then automatically sends to the UBER driver nearest to the consumer, alerting the driver to the location of the customer.

Mr. Lester Noronha, Operations Manager & Mr. Vijith Kumar, Associate Manager addressed the MBAs on the History and Growth Story of UBER, Roadblocks they faced, Initiatives undertaken by them and also the job opportunities for the MBAs in their organization. Students were stimulated to think beyond when their business does not show returns as expected. UBER faced lot of challenges to survive in the competitive business world as they only accepted Credit Card payments initially; however they brought about PAYTM and Cash payments which shoot up their business. Several initiatives of UBER like UBER POOL, UBER Puppies Day, UBER Ice-cream Day and the support they provided during Flood in Chennai won great admiration for the organization. The organization looks for candidates with a special skill called HUSTLE, if possessed can be a part of UBER with rewarding compensation and benefits. They were even urged to apply for part-time positions incase they are interested.

Students were urged to download the UBER APP on their smart phone and also use the code “MLR2016” in order to get the first free ride.

Inauguration of Sahyadri Management Student Association

The Sahyadri Management Student Association (SMSA), of the Department of Business Administration, was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr. Nagendra Rao T R , V P Marketing, Manipal Technologies Limited for the academic year 2016-17. In his inaugural address, Mr Nagendra applauded the infrastructure and the artifacts of the Institute. He was immensely amazed by the Vision and Passion of our beloved Chairman, Dr. Manjunath Bhandary. In his speech he affirmed the commendable efforts of the professors who have relentlessly worked behind the success of every student. He shared his happiness of his association with the Institute and praised the alumni who have joined Manipal Technologies in various capacities. He also stated that the quality of students Sahyadri produces were at par with the premier Institutes in India. Further he called upon the students to pursue their career with passion and creativity in order to be successful in their respective careers.

Dr. Lokesh, Academic Co-ordinator welcomed the gathering. Mr. Denny Nagraj Monnappa, Coordinator of the association read the plan of action for the entire academic year. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi presided over the function. Dr. Vishal Samartha , Director , Department of Business Administration florally felicitated all the council members and Mr. Shreyas G gave away the vote of thanks. Ms. Dhanyashree hosted the entire programme. All the faculty members and students of Department of Business Administration were present on the occasion.

Workshop at Prestige International School

On behalf of SSTH 2016, DTlabz organized a workshop on Arduino, for the students of Prestige International School, Jeppina Muger. Forty five students in total participated in the workshop with an excitement of being a part of SSTH 2016. Mr. Shrajan Bhandary, Mr. John Nikhil and Mr. Mayank Chetan of DTlabz took up the training sessions.

Sahyadrian excels in State level Amateur Athletic meet

Mithun Shetty of first semester from the department of Computer Science & Engineering has won 3rd place in 100 Meters and 1st place in 4x100 Meters relay in state level Amateur Athletic meet held at Kanteerava Stadium, Bangalore.

Sahyadri recognized under Section 2 (f) of the UGC Act, 1956

Sahyadri has been included in the list of colleges prepared under Section 2 (f) of the UGC Act, 1956 under the head ‘Non-Government Colleges teaching upto Master’s Degree”. This recognition facilitates in applying to various UGC grants for research and development.

Staff and students can avail the UGC recognition and plan to foster research grants for your work.

Guest Talk by Mr. Sridhar Balaraman, Domain Lead, Infosys

The use of information technology (IT) is considered a prerequisite for the effective control of today's complex supply chains. In order to reaffirm on this Mr.Sridhar Balaraman, Domain Lead, Infosys BPO Limited, Bangalore delivered a guest lecture on "Role of IT in Supply Chain Management" for the 2nd year MBA students. Mr.Sridhar began his talk by explaining the inseparable relationship between Information Technology and Supply Chain Management. He touched upon the various areas where Supply Chain is eased out due to introduction of IT solutions and have paved way for efficient management of the entire supply chain process. He also stressed on the future path of Supply Chain in the context of ever evolving IT. He emphasized on the crucial role IT has played on the enhancement of visibility of Supply Chain today. He referred to 5 Major SCM Software used extensively by various Organizations and also explained the key offering of the Software Solutions. The session was very interactive and students gained lot of insight into the practical nuances of few interesting future technology like Robotics and Block Chain.

Dr. Abdul Rahiman, Former Vice-Chancellor of Kannur & Calicut Universities visits Sahyadri

Former Vice-Chancellor of Kannur & Calicut Universities, Dr. Abdul Rahiman, a resource person with the experience of formerly being NAAC committee member had visited the college and interacted with the Head of the Departments, Dean, Vice-Principal and Principal.

He had an interactive session with our team and guided them about the documentation and the points that need to be kept ready at the time of inspection. As an experienced person in the field of NAAC accreditation and inspection, he highlighted about the development of robust education system.

His valuable suggestion and guidelines were a true eye opener for the team to get prepared for the NAAC inspection and also in fine tuning the documentation.

Dr. C. K. Manjunath Invited as Chief Guest

Dr. C. K. Manjunath, Prof. of Humanities & Administrator was invited as the Chief Guest to inaugurate Humanities club at Govindas PU College, Surathkal as part of SSTH interaction. During the occasion he interacted with the 1st and 2nd PU Humanities students and faculties about "Attitude of Today's Youth". He also introduced the social innovation practices that are adopted at Sahyadri.
