Chairman and Principal attend “The Asian Summit on Education & Skills Conference” in Bengaluru

The Asian Summit on Education & Skills Conference was inaugurated in Bengaluru. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation and Principal Dr. Umesh M Bhushi have attended this conference.

The Asian Summit on Education & Skills (ASES) is Asia's only Annual Leadership event dedicated to the Education & Skills sector. It brings together influential leaders, eminent educationists and other key stakeholders to create an unparalleled platform for exchange of dialogues on policy, implementation of future practices and new growth drivers that are revolutionising the education and training sector in Asia.

ASES recognises the needs and desires of governments (national and state) in the Region to develop education at all levels; the ability of major industry players to play key roles in making change happen; and the value of a regional summit to build consensus and promote confidence among decision-makers in their routes to successful policies and in the industry partners who can help them.

ASES is a partner event of the Education World Forum in London. The organiser and region partner is India Didactics Association (IDA), the only exclusive membership association in India for the education and training fraternity.

Prof. Ashwath Rao conferred Degree in Doctoral of Philosophy

Mr. Ashwath Rao, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication has been conferred degree in Doctoral of Philosophy for his thesis entitled “Effects of Radiation on High-k/Si Interface Properties” at the XIth convocation of Indian Institute of Information and Technology held on September 24th 2016 at IIIT/Allahabad. Padma Bhushan Honb’le Dr. F. C. Kohli, a visionary and pioneer, widely acknowledged as the ‘Father of the Indian Software Industry’ was the chief guest for the function. The degree was awarded by Prof. G. C. Nandi, Director, IIIT, Allahabad in the presence of Honb’le Chairman Shri. Ravi Kant, CEO/Vice-Chairman Tata Motors and also Chairman, Board of Governors of IIIT, Allahabad.

Akshatha Nayak, Renita Dcunha, Shreyas G & Nagraj K M, 2nd year MBA students (Batch YR 2016-17) have been offered in the recently concluded interviews conducted by Jaro Education. For the first time at Sahyadri we have students of MBA being placed while the students are still in third semester of their studies. Renita Dcunha, Shreyas G & Nagraj K M would be placed as Career Development Manager with a package of 6.06 lakhs per annum and Akshatha Nayak would be placed as Recruitment Executive (Management Trainee) with a package of 4.62 lakhs per annum.

Pooled Campus Drive by Axis Bank

Axis Bank, India's third largest private sector bank conducted a lateral recruitment drive at Sahyadri. Mr. Karthik, Manager-HR and Mr. Raghavendra N, Circle HR Head, Hubli initiated this drive which had 52 participants from different colleges. The Bank has a large footprint of 2,589 domestic branches spread across the country. The overseas operations of the Bank are spread over eight international offices with branches at Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, Colombo and Shanghai; representative offices at Dubai and Abu Dhabi and an overseas subsidiary at London, UK.

Inauguration of AEnCES

Association of Electronics and Communication Engineering Students (AEnCES), Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering for the academic year 2016 -17 was inaugurated by Mr. Vinod John, Business account Manager, Karmic Design Pvt Ltd.

He addressed the students on the importance of students association in engineering college which contributes to the development of their technical and interpersonal skills.

Dr. Jose Alex Mathew, Head of Department welcomed the gathering, by emphasising that this forum improves student’s self-confidence, involvement in extracurricular activities, Intellectual Qualities and fulfils their social obligation. He also highlighted that the AEnCEs motto should be to Excel in leadership and think about Start-Ups.

Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, in his presidential remarks influenced students to pick up something new from these events and focus more on understanding the industry requirements for their future. Prof. S. S. Balakrishna, Vice-Principal, Prof B. S Umashankar, Dean were also present. Cultuaral events were organized after the formal function.

Corporate Connect, a One Day Workshop for MBA's

Corporate Connect, a One Day Workshop for MBA's was conducted for the final year MBA students by Mr. Anoop Kumar, Senior Analyst - Global Learning & Development, Mphasis Limited, Mangalore.

Anoop Kumar, from being a dishwasher in Hospitality industry to a salesman selling hardware and software to being a customer service representative in a BPO and went on to become the Senior Corporate trainer with Mphasis. With a total experience of 18 years out of which 13 years in training, Anoop heads Soft Skills training and Corporate Social Responsibility for Mphasis, Mangalore and has won 2 Corporate Citizens Award in a span of 3 years in the reputed Mphasis Annual Rewards and Recognition program. He is an avid traveller and biker. His philosophy of life is – We are far too short sighted to understand everything that happens to us, just be thankful because LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL.

The trainer focussed on the broad areas relating to Introduction to Corporate Culture, The Essence of being alive, Management Skills, Emotions and Healing by Gratitude. He stressed on the concept related to “Phase of Transition” to a corporate culture, Ethics and Etiquette, Communication Styles and Body Language, Time Management as well as Team Bonding. He highlighted the importance of engaging in tasks as a Pleasure and not as a Pressure which was brought out through an activity, wherein the students were made to realise that they were doing the task with pressure and not enjoying the task which makes the outcome ineffective. He also made the students realise the need to groom themselves on Physical Personality, Mental Personality and also Spiritual Personality. He also emphasised that the World is the Best school for learning soft skills and that students should travel, network and meet people since anyone they met would be of help anytime in their life.

Guest Lecture for MBA Finance Students on “Mutual fund Investment”

Prof. B.V. Raghunandan, subject matter expert of ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company addressed second year MBA finance students on the topic “Mutual fund Investment”. In his session he discussed about the working model of mutual funds, criteria’s to select the best fund, fund category, switching between funds and other aspects of Mutual Fund Investment. It was a very interactive learning session.

Mr. Renjit Keshav, Insight Job Guru, addresses the MBA Students

Mr. Renjit Keshav, Leadership Coach & Managing Director at Insight Job Guru addressed the First and Second year MBA students. His talk pointed upon several key characteristics that an MBA aspirant must carry. He said that the most essential quality of a great leader is his attitude and efforts towards people, situations and life. He differentiated between “being the best” and “being great”. He beckoned students to choose to be great personalities and touch lives of others significantly instead of just being the best in whichever field they opt to be in. He recalled few great personalities and asked the students to replicate their achievements. He asked the students to have “Right Intentions” in life as they would act as a guiding force to reach better heights in their life. He narrated practical stories of ordinary people displaying extraordinary efforts whereby he tried to convey a strong message that - when intentions are right the results will also be right. He said Decision Making and Leadership are not bound by qualification but by the right attitude and presence of mind. The session was very well received by students and they were spellbound by the energy of the speaker.

Sahyadrians attend “Jana Mana”

Sahyadrians attended the “Jana Mana” Programme which was held at Town Hall, Mangaluru. Shreya N Kottari, Vandana & Sonali S of II year B. E. Information Science & Engineering and Sushant S Kantrikar and Charan Raj of II year B. E. Mechanical Engineering interacted with Shri. B. Ramanath Rai, District-In-Charge Minister regarding the benefits of scholarships (Vidyasiri) given by the Department of Other Backward Communities. Deelan Felix Concessao of III year B. E. Mechanical Engineering suggested to the Minister the importance of publicity to Vidyasiri scholarship which can benefit more deserving students.

An Article published in Kannada Newspaper

An article authored by Dr. Navin N Bappalige, Associate Professor, Department of Physics, titled - ' Inventions of Scientists and Contributions of Engineers' has been published in the Kannada fortnightly newspaper "Vamsha" in the issue dated 15th, September 2016. This newspaper has a circulation of around 5000 copies in and around the Bantwal taluk. The article gives an insight about the contributions of engineers by working on the existing inventions thereby helps to improve the quality of life.

At the same time, the article stresses that the users should try to know something about the principle and working of the things they are using or utilizing. The article has been written commemorating National Engineers Day on 15th September which is also the birthday of Sir. M. Vishweshwaraiah.

Revaluation Results bring First Rank to a student of Civil Engineering Department

Ms. Sthuthi. K. A, currently in the Fifth Semester of Civil Engineering, secured First rank after the revaluation results of the fourth semester VTU Exams, held in the month of June 2016. She has scored 804/900 with a percentage of 89.33%.

Student secures 1st Prize in National Level Paper Presentation

Mr. Jeethan G R, final year Civil Engineering, secured 1st Prize in paper presentation in the Two Day National Level Students Technical Fest "ADVITIYA 16" organized by the Civil Engineering Department of K.L.E Institute of Technology, Hubballi. The paper presentation was about extraction of arsenic content from water by using different layers of filters.

MBA Alumna awarded as the “Performer of the Month” in the 1st month of GO-LIVE

It is a proud moment for Sahyadri MBA to mention that Ms. Megha Shetty from the YR 2014 - 2016 batch, currently working as a Procurement Specialist (Operational Buyer- Client Operation Representative), IBM India Pvt. Ltd, Bengaluru has been awarded as the “Performer of the month – September’16” in the 1st month of GO-LIVE itself. She has been selected for this award after being scrutinized on various criteria which include handling highest queries from the client & vendors, timely response to queries in the functional mailbox and also auditing the performance of the team members on a daily basis.

As a student, she won praises for her exceptional Internship Project on “Challenges in Recruitment & Selection at Reliance Jio Infocomm, Bangalore” and her pleasant attitude of going an extra mile to accomplish the job assigned by the internship company as well as completing a standard internship project. She continues the spirit of dedication and commitment which has won rewards and recognition in her current job role. Sahyadri congratulates Megha for her success, which in turn is an achievement of the institution.

MBA faculty invited to judge the “Best Manager” Event

Mr. Mithun S Ullal, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration was invited to judge the “Best Manger” event held at Philomena College, Puttur. Students from various degree colleges of the Dakshina Kannada region had participated in the event.

MBA Faculty invited as Guest Speaker

Ms. Prajwala Preema Rodrigues, Asst. Professor of Department of Business Administration was invited as a guest speaker to the HR Forum in Alva’s College, Moodbidri.

She addressed the students on “Application of HR knowledge in Hospitals”. She urged the students to be a keen learner in order to excel in the field of their interest. She also shared her experience in HR domain as Head of HRD at S.C.S. Hospitals and motivated students to face challenges as it would help them to grow stronger. She conducted various Management activities and games in order to give them a better understanding of practical application of HR concepts in the corporate world. It was an interactive session where students got an insight of corporate challenges and means to overcome them tactfully.

A Representative from Team Challengers attends the International Conference held at London

Mohammad Anwar from Team Challengers attended the SAI Intelligent Conference on Artificial Intelligence held during September 21 – 23, 2016 at Royal Victoria Dock, London, UK. IntelliSys 2016 Conference focused on areas of intelligent systems and artificial intelligence and how it applies to the real world. It was an opportunity for researchers in this field to meet and discuss solutions, scientific results, and methods in solving intriguing problems in this field. The conference was sponsored by HPCC Systems and technically co-sponsored by IEEE.

Mohammad Anwar also visited Aeronautics Department of Imperial College of London which is one of the top ten universities in QS world ranking.
