Happy Deepavali

Deepavali, also known as Diwali, is the festival of lights, celebrated with immense joy and enthusiasm across India and in various parts of the world. Rooted in rich cultural and spiritual heritage, it symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil, bringing people together in celebration, unity, and joy.

The word “Deepavali” comes from the Sanskrit words Deepa (lamp) and Avali (row), signifying “a row of lights.” It is believed that lighting lamps on this auspicious occasion dispels darkness and ushers in positivity, prosperity, and peace.

Deepavali’s historical origins are associated with various cultural tales and traditions. In Hindu mythology, it marks the return of Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and his brother Lakshmana to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and victory over the demon king Ravana. To celebrate their homecoming, the people of Ayodhya illuminated the kingdom with lamps, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness.

Deepavali is a five-day festival filled with various rituals, festivities, and gatherings. Preparations begin with thorough cleaning and decorating of homes, symbolizing the removal of negativity and an invitation for positive energies. On the main day, families light diyas (earthen lamps) and place them around their homes and temples to ward off darkness. Rangoli, a traditional art form made of colorful powders, flowers, or rice, is created at doorways as a gesture of welcome. People dress in new clothes, offer prayers, and seek blessings for prosperity and well-being.

Sweet treats, savory snacks, and grand meals are prepared and shared, symbolizing the joy of giving and celebrating together. Fireworks and crackers illuminate the night sky, marking the joy and excitement of the occasion. However, with an increasing emphasis on environmental consciousness, many people today celebrate a greener Diwali by lighting eco-friendly lamps and reducing firecracker usage.

Above all, Deepavali is a time for self-reflection, gratitude, and fostering love among family, friends, and communities.

Placement and Training: Recruited by Cohesity at a CTC of INR 24 LPA

Ashwin Pramod Bekal from the Dept. of Cyber Security, secured a placement with Cohesity, receiving an impressive offer of INR 24 LPA. Cohesity recently engaged with students through a comprehensive virtual recruitment process, beginning with an insightful Pre-Placement Talk on October 18th, followed by an online test.

Shortlisted candidates then advanced to the final phase, participating in online interviews held on October 29th. Cohesity's rigorous selection process has generated significant excitement, offering students a coveted opportunity to join a leader in data management and security.

Screening and Evaluation of MSME Idea Hackathon 4.0

Screening and Evaluation of MSME Idea Hackathon 4.0 was held on 29th October 2024. Sahyadri has been recognized as a Host Institution (HI) of MSME, Ministry of Industries and Commerce, Govt. of India, New Delhi.

For the year 2024, as a Host Institute (HI), Sahyadri has received 18 projects under different themes. Experts from different sectors were present during the Screening and Evaluation of the projects. Expert Committee included Dr. Manjappa S, Director (R&D); Mr. Raghavendra G Shetty, Co-founder and CEO, RDL Technologies Pvt. Ltd; Mr. Sujithraj, Manager, NITK-STEP; Mrs. Swapna, Account Officer, NITK-STEP, Dr. Rathishchandra R Gatti, Professor & Head, Dept. of Mechanical and Robotics Engineering; Dr. M Srinath, Professor, Computer Science and Engineering; Prof. Ramesh K.G, Dean – Strategic Planning; Dr. Lawrence Joseph Fernandes- Associate Dean (Students Welfare); Dr. Navaneeth Bhaskar, Associate Dean (R&D); Prof. Harisha, Assistant Dean-Innovation; Dr. Duddela Sai Prashanth, Assistant Professor, Department of AI-ML; and Dr. GurusiddayyaHiremeth, Assistant Professor, Department of AI-ML.
